Update failed now the touch won't start up; black screen.

My girlfriend just got this ipod touch and I was trying to sync it with the computer with itunes to get music on it... then itunes said there was a software update for it... I let it go through with the update (to 3.1.2 I think?) and then it failed half way through. Now the darn thing is not doing anything at all. I've plugged it in... unplugged it... held the power and the home key down for 30 seconds... nothing. Anyone got any ideas? wish this thing had a door to the battery so I can remove it or maybe even a hard reset button... blah.

you need to roll back to an older version the latest updates screwing with alot of itouches only older one i can find is 2.2

  • Updates failed and the laptop won't start up

I started to download the Apple updates today and half way through the laptop just close down. It now won't start up again.
It goes throught the Login window and sticks on the bluw screen with the cursor static in the top left corner.
Can anybody help with a suggestion?

    Graham M.,
In order to resolve your problem, please provide additional info.
    1) Were you on battery or AC power?
    2) Are you using dial-up, DSL, or Cable broadband?
    3) Are you connected to the Internet by Ethernet cable, Airpt. Extreme/Expr?
    4) What version of Panther .... 10.3.9?
In the meantime, completely shut-down the PowerBook and disconnect the AC power and carefully remove the battery; unplug ALL power sources to any of the above (2) and (3).
Wait about 20 minutes, then reinstall the battery and plug-in the AC line to the PB.
    a) Insert your Panther install disc #1
    b) Press the power button, while holding down the C key until the Install window appears.
    c) From the Apple Menu Bar select Disk Utility and run Repair Disk only. Do NOT Repair Permissions from the disc; it will be outdated.
    d) If RED text is displayed, run the Repair Disk a second time even if the repair was completed.
    e) After the second run, eject the Install disc and RESTART the PB from the Apple contextual menu.
    f) Using Disk Utility (from Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) run Repair Permissions.
If everything looks OK at this point and you have the above peripherals:
reconnect power to any external modem ... wait 5 minutes, reconnect power to the Airport ... wait 5 minutes, reconnect any Ethernet cable.
Assuming your good to go, update to 10.3.9 from the COMBO updater on the Apple Support Downloads web site and run Repair Permissions again.
Consider installing a very good maintenance program like Macaroni.

Took apart Macbook pro 13 to remove broken headphone tip in the jack. Had to remove battery to get to the headphone jack. Now the laptop won't start. The power button is just not responding. Battery indicator showed charge of 3 dots initially but now only the last dot is blinking. The power cable used to light up green initially but now the green light is gone. I have tried SMC reset, which didn't work. What are my options?

Take it to an authorized service center.

  • Ipod touch won't start, just shows screen saying to connect to itunes.

Ipod touch won't start or charge, or do anything other than when I plug it in, the screen shows a picture of the usb cord connecting to itunes. When I tried to connect to itunes using my computer, nothing happened. Any suggestions?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Installed latest update, and now ipod touch won't work

Hello, I clicked on the download and install option for the latest update to my ipod touch. I think it was 2.2.1, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, now I have to hold the power button down several seconds, and I see the apple logo, and then the itunes icon with the USB plug which indicates I need to connect to itunes. When I plug it in to the pc, I get prompted that I have installed new hardware and need to install the device drivers. It is not recognized by itunes or my pc. Please help!!

Hello, all, my ipod touch is now working. Here's what happened...I called the tech support line and started going through the automated stuff. It started me with the reset which I had done numerous time. It then mentioned trying a different USB port. I figured it was a waste of time, but then I decided what the heck, so I tried the other usb port on the front of my pc. When I did this, it recognized the ipod in ituned and gave me a mssg that it needed to be restored. I clicked on the restore link, and minutes later it gave me an error message on the restore, and the ipod showed the apple on the sreen instead of the itunes logo with the usb cord. I then tried it back in the original usb port, and received the same windows prompt to try to install drivers that I had been getting all along. I put it back in the second USB port, and got the restore message again with it being recognized in itunes. This time it successfully completed the restore. I know it sounds simple, but if you have not tried a different USB port, be sure you do. Maybe the download jacked up my USB port? Anyway, I'm working again with the 2.2.1 download. Good luck to all!!

  • Macbook Pro won't start-up (black screen)

    Hello,
I'm having some problems with starting my Macbook Pro

    I tried:
-Connect it to power and wait 15 min. then try again -> same result
    - hardware test (installation disc 1 and then press d) -> screen stays black but the disc starts spinning
    - pram-reset, -> same result
the only thing i didn't do is check if my ram-sticks are still in position (i never bought new ram, but maybe it started to get loose)
    what to do?

Just google Nvidia 8600m, and problem, or oh god my screen is dead, and see what comes up.
Once again, if you have a Macbook Pro from mid-late 2007, chances are you have a bad chip. They will replace your logic board, with another bad chip, which may or may not go bad. It's an obvious issue, Nvidia admits they have a problem, and Apple is just going to quietly resolve individual problems.
If your computer turns on but the screen doesn't, it's about 99% likely it's the GPU. Go ahead and let Apple replace it. Oh, and if you have a MBP from that time period and don't have apple care. GET IT NOW. You will most likely have a Black Screen Of Death at some point, and Apple care is cheaper than the repair (which may or may not work). Some people have gone though three logic boards. Good luck.

  • My MacBook air won't start? Black screen

I closed my MacBook air and when I opened it again it won't start. I tried to reboot it but the screen stays black. I hear the ventilators turn slowly when I try to turn it on but nothing else happens. The light on the macsafe charger is on. A few hours earlier the charger won't work but the MacBook worked well. After a while it worked again and I charged the computer and surfed on it without the charger later. It happened a little later. I tried to reset the PRAM and the SMC but the screen still stays black. I tried to start it with a external hard drive but nothing. I tried to connect an other screen but still nothing. I'm desperate!
I have an appointment at the genius bar next Tuesday but I hope it will start again until then.
What can it be. Is it possible that the charger had a diffect and that something overheat?
Thanks in advance for your help. And sorry for my English, I'm french.

    Hello!
My friend is experiencing this very issue and your response would be most helpful as he is out of warranty. Please do keep me posted!

  • IBook won't start up - black screen

Hi, wonder if anyone can help with this...
I have an iBook which is about 5 years old. It's always been fine up until this weekend when i turned it on as normal and it just won't start up. All i see is a black screen but it does for a while sound like it's trying to start up.
I left it for a day turned off then tried turning it on again - this time it looked as if it was starting with the grey screen & apple icon then half may through it froze and there are lines all over the screen in various different colours - this doesn't look like a good sign!
I've tried starting in safe mode and also by inserting the install CD and starting up holding C but neither register.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks in advance!
    Abi

    Hey AbiTWR,
.. starting with the grey screen & apple icon then half may through it froze and there are lines all over the screen in various different colours- this doesn't look like a good sign!
Unfortunately you're right about that. That's the classic symptom for a graphics processor chip that's coming loose. You could try the shim repair mentioned all over this board. Depending on the speed and size you basically put a shim under the board under the GPU.

  • Macbook won't start up - black screen

My Macbook froze up suddenly today, forcing me to force quit. The problem is that when I start it again, it wont even progress to the blue/grey screen, and it doesn't even give the start up ding. It simply starts as a black screen, and it makes the hard-drive whir in a kind-of stuttering sound. I've tried the basic troubleshooting steps, but to no avail. Has anybody else had this problem before?

Have you tried Disk Utility Booting from the Install Disk, holding down the C Key. When the Apple Logo appears, let go. When the bootup is finished, select your Language. Then from the Installer menu, on the Menu bar, select Utilities>Disk Utility. Select your HD from the list on the left click First Aid, and Repair Disk...Reboot.
After reboot..Select Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility, Select the HD, click the First aid, and Repair Disk Permissions.

  • Just tried to upgrade to SnowLeopard with new software. iLife failed to download and now the computer will not start up--grey screen with lines going round and round in a circle. What can I do to get it to start up?

Just tried to upgrade to SnowLeopard with newly purchased software disc. iLife failed to download and when I tried to restart the computer, it will not do so--just get a grey screen with the lines going around and around. Any ideas about how to get it to start?

    Mac Pro - Mid 2010
    Processor  2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
This is a brand new machine that I just purchased from Apple. It was delivered yesterday
The old computer is an old PowerMac G5, but my OS X install disc is a retail version of 10.5.
I also tried the OS X 10.5 install disc that came with my MacBook Pro (2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Dual).
Same issue - nothing but a grey screen when the system tries to boot from the DVD

  • Upgraded to mavericks and now the mac won't start.

It's looping between a grey screen that says "your computer restarted because of a problem..." and  code that says "panic CPU..."
I started disk utility and it says that my drive is unrepairable
    Any advice?

You know what, I think I just solved the issue. Using media browser, I was able to import one MXF file because it combine all of the individual clips into one clip.

  • I just ran the most current Firefox update and now the program won't open. I keep getting an error for the XUL Runner that says "Platform version 6.0.2 is not compatible with minversion =6.0.1 maxversion 6.0.1. Restarting didn't clear this problem.

I also did a System Restore and that didn't clear the problem, either.

If you use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security then try to disable Virtualization.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder.

  • G5 won't start up (black screen saying restart) after installing new memory

I have installed two new memory cards and removed the original and now my computer starts to start up - But then locks with a gray overlay and says restart - which you can only do by a hard start.

The trick with installing memory is that you have to PUSH harder than you can possibly imagine, so hard that you think you will damage the RAM, but you won't. Keep pushing till you hear a click.

  • Won't start up, black screen, only fan noise: want to recover: help

So, this may be the end of the powerbook 17".
And unfortunately, the last time I backed up was 2 months ago on a now dead Lacie external.
    No kidding.
It won't accept a startup cd, it won't even grab a cd into drive.
So, what's the chance I can recover and how do I do it?,

    Try things in Apple doc.#300537.
    Cheers!
