Update failed, unable to start SW now

Yesterday I attempted an upgrade to the latest version of SW.  The upgrade failed and has rendered my install of SW inoperable.  Tried to use the spice_restore to fix, but that has failed as well.  Do I need to do a new install?
Edited to add:
1. This install of SW is running on an Optiplex 390, Windows 7 Pro x64.
2. Tried changing the ports that SW is using.
3. Attempting to start SW results in a progress bar that never completes.

I was today invited to upgrade my iTunes when I logged on.  Update failed. Every time I now try to open iTunes I get error messages.  Second message reads "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please re-install iTunes. Error 7. Windows error 126". I now can't sync my iPhoneand I am worried that if I re-install I will lose all my contacts, calendar, notes, etc.

I too had this problems (Windows 8.1).  A few weeks ago after the previous update before this version of itunes, I'd had a problem with the itunes store crashing and at that time I followed instructions to copy QTMovieWin.dll to the itunes folder, which fixed the store crashing.
Today I fixed the problem by:
    Delete QTMovieWin.dll from C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes.
Uninstall ALL Apple Software using Control Panel / Programs and Features.  I uninstalled:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Apple Application Support
    Apple Software Update
    Bonjour
    Delete the folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple
    Restart the computer
    Reinstall QuickTime
    Reinstall iTunes
Everything works GREAT now, including the iTunes store.  You will not lose your media files, I got everything back, all my settings, playlists, etc.

Re: CS6 updates and Mac write permissions
Need Adobe help to solve this. My own searches in Forums and Google all have failed.

It is not an Adobe problem. You have a OS permissions problem. You can try to correct this by using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions. It is in the First Aid area of Disk Utility.

  • Update failed:  Unable to extract the download files (why????), error U44M1210.  What's that ?

When downloading Premiere Pro CC, in Creative Cloud, I'm getting a message:
    Update Failed
Unable to extract  the downloaded files.  Press retry.
    (U44M1210)
Sometimes it happens when I'm updating extensions.
Can I directly download and update apps WITHOUT using the Creative Cloud desktop app ?
    Please advice.

I had the same problem on a Mac (CC update failing with a U44M1210 error.
. I just finished a chat with an Adobe specialist who walked me through the solution. So I recommend a chat to solve the problem for me (and I suspect all Mac users).
The Solution essentially this came down to the following:
    Deleting the following:
OOBE and AAM Updater folders from ~/library/Application Support/Adobe
OOBE and Adobe Application Manager folders from /Library/Application Support/Adobe
    Reinstalling the Adobe Application Manager.
    Restarting the Creative cloud Application.

  • Audition update fails, unable to extract downlaod files. (U44M1I210)

When I try to update Audition, I get the following error message: "Update Failed Unable to extract the downloaded files. Press Retry to download again (U44M1I210)"
This is on a PC, Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit. I have other CC application installed and they update with no problem (Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Illustrator, Bridge).
I tried updating again, several times, always got the same error. I uninstalled Audition and tried to install it again, but ended up with the same error.

I suspect your error was 1015, not 1051. This usually involves a jailbroken iPhone, use Google to find your solution.

  • Update failed with message U44MIP7. Now what?

Creative Cloud showed an update for PS CS6. I tried to update and it told me to close the program. I did so and the update failed. Subsequent attempts have also faile. Finally I get an error message U44MIP7. What does that mean and how do I update the program?

This means that the update has failed to be applied.  Depending on what update you are trying to download you can try downloading the update directly from the product update page.  You can find more details at Installation failed. • 3GS 3.0 to 3.1.2 update failed, unable to restore

Recently I attempted to update the firmware of my 3GS from 3.0 to 3.1.2 in iTunes 8.2, and it failed with an unknown error. It now continually enters recovery mode whenever I power the device on. Attempting to restore the device (which only lets me restore to 3.1.2 now despite the fact the update didn't complete) results in iTunes hanging on "Preparing iPhone for restore" which then ultimately fails with a numeric error, usually 1604.
I've googled all night trying to find possible solutions to this problem. I've read the official Apple help docs on what to do for the various numeric error codes I've received.. I've rebooted, I've ensured I'm connected directly to my PC (Windows XP SP3 32-bit) using a USB 2.0 port and not a hub, I've tried on my Macbook as well using both iTunes 8.2 and upgrading to 9.0.1, I've tried booting into DFU mode (in this mode, it hangs and then fails on an earlier step, something like "authorizing restore with apple", I forget the exact wording).
I've deleted and redownloaded the firmware IPSW files, I've tried shift-clicking restore and restoring from a 3.0 firmware (not allowed, apparently). I tried restoring from within Xcode instead of iTunes which hung for a while on "Connected to device" before aborting with an error about being unable to begin DFU mode.
This is a completely legit, off-the-shelf, never-jailbroken never-unlocked iPhone 3GS purchased from Softbank in Tokyo (where I am still using it). Is there anything else I can try to get this thing working again? I'm in the middle of developing an update to an App Store app and here I just wanted to try updating to figure out a crashing problem the QA testers were having and now I've got a dead brick.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
The most recent version of iTunes is 9.0.2
Try updating your iTunes software and *then try to Restore the iPhone.*
On your Mac, click the Apple Menu  / Software Updates.
After the installation, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac*.
Make sure your Windows based machine has the latest version of iTunes also. 9.0.2
Launch iTunes on the PC. If it's not up to date you should see a dialog box asking if you want to updage your iTunes software.

  • Latest update failed to install and cannot now open iTunes at all.

I tried to install the latest update of iTunes on my laptop but it failed.  I got both a 'runtime error' message and also an error message saying 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start.
I have tried uninstalling and resinstalling an earlier version but nothing is working so I am unable to back up my files and transer things between my iphone and my kids' ipod Touches.
I would really appreciate any ideas of what I can do as I need to get iTunes back on my laptop.
    Thank you

    Hey gina 2909,
When you uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, did you use this article?
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
If you haven't already done these steps, this section contains information that might help your situation, as the order and manner which you uninstall has an effect on the outcome:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    Sincerely,
    Delgadoh

  • 10.4.6 update failed, unable to boot

I am working with a couple of iBooks, pretty much the same configurations 1.2 ghz G4s. One had no problems with the 10.4.6 update install, although it did restart itself during the initial boot. Second one will not boot, it used the SU condensed (it was 40-60 mb or something along those lines). It will not boot, or safe boot. I have run diskwarrior off a cd and disk utility (repair disk and permissions) off of the iBook restore cd. The computer still will not boot. To prevent a tiger archive and install, and then the combo updates...
Is it possible to use a firewire cable and run the 'combo' installer on target disk mode from the "healthy" iBook?

I can hardly believe that DiskWarrior "did nothing". Did you build a graph from your HD? Were there "0" (zero) "failures" found? And did you replace your old catalog with the new one created by DiskWarrior?
By the way: It is allways good to trash caches before updating. If you have no apps to do this, here's a method to do it manually.
    MacFixIt recommends deleting the following:
Drag the folder com.apple.SoftwareUpdate located in /Library/Caches (the Library folder at the root level of your hard drive) to the trash.
Then drag'n'drop the following into the trash:
    * com.apple.kernelcaches (a folder in /System/Library/Caches)
    * Extensions.kextcache (a file in /System/Library)
    * Extensions.mkext (a file in /System/Library/)
    * com.apple.ATS (a folder in /Library/Caches/)
    * Files that start with com.apple.LaunchServices (in /Library/Caches)
You will be prompted to enter your administrator password when dragging these files to the trash. You may need to restart after moving them to the trash.
