Update firmware now TC has steady amber light + not seen in airport utility

Earlier this evening my imac flashed up the firmware update for my time capsule (500GB) which i just did without thinking twice.
Firmware downloaded and TC restarted but now only has steady amber light.
I launched airport utility but my tc is not recognised.
Tried soft and hard reset but still only getting steady amber light.
Dragged the ethernet cable out and round to the imac to be able to post this.
Any suggestions ?
Cheers

Try a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule as follows:
Power the TC down and leave it off for 25-30 minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in while you plug the power back in to the TC
Keep holding the reset button in until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly and hold another few seconds when you see this and then release
Open AirPort Utility to see if you can reconfigure your Time Capsule and apply any updates that are available.

Steady green light on A1084. Mac OS X 10.7.5. IMac. Verizon DSL Actiontec GT704-WGB modem. Airport Utility 5.6 says set up is complete.   Airport Express base station does not appear in the menu bar, so I cannot select it and send a signal to airport express to play airtunes through my stereo amplifier.  Is there a fix?

I plugged a model A1034 Airport Extreme Base Station into the Verizon DSL Actiontec GT704-WGB modem with an ethernet cable and now the AirPlay icon appears in the Itunes window immediately to the right of the volume control and I can select it and play Airtunes wirelessly through the A1038 Airport Express Base Station in another room connected to a stereo amplifier by a Monster mini-to-RCA left/right audio cable running from the output jack on the A1034 Airport Express Base Station into the CD jacks on the amp.  The problem is that I have to select the Apple Network Airport Express Base Station as my network in order to select the Airport Express Base Station when I click the AirPlay icon, which means I have no Internet signal to the Imac. If I select the Airport Extreme Base Station or the Verzion modem as my network, then I have an Internet signal to the Imac, but the Airport Express Base Station is grayed out when I click on the AirPlay icon, so I cannot select the Airport Express Base Station and send tunes to the Airport Express.  It would be nice to play Airtunes while simultaneously accessing the Internet.  I don't understand your question about what program I am using for which I require AirPlay.  I am not learned about computers in general, and even less so about Macs than PCs.  I thought the program I was running was Itunes, and there was no separate program to run to use AirPlay for the purpose of sending a signal from the Itunes on the Imac to the A1084 Airport Express base station in a another room, and then out as described above to the stereo amplifier to listen to Itunes music remotely in the other room, without any kind of cable, wire, etc., connecting the Imac to the stereo amplifier.  I would guess that the most common use for the A1084 is to play Itunes through a stereo in another room without the need to run wires from the computer to the stereo.  I realize it would be easy simply to run a very long mini-to-RCA left/right audio cable across the floor connecting the Imac to the amp without the need to use AirTunes, Airplay or any kind of AirPort, but it would be both unsightly and a tripping hazard.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • Airport express worked fine now shows only constant amber light ?

airport express worked fine now shows only constant amber light ?

A solid amber light indicates that the AirPort Express cannot get out of startup mode.....likely because of a power supply issue within the device.
Try a Factory Default Reset as a last resort to see if that might help. To do this....
Power off the AirPort Express and wait a minute or two
Hold in the reset button on the Express first, and keep holding it for 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back into power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart
At this point, if the Express is operating correctly, the amber light will be blinking slowly and you can reconfigure the Express again.
If the amber light remains solid after a few reset attempts, the internal power supply on the Express is faulty and the device will need to be replaced.

MBP not charging, green or amber light not on, but registers plugged in?

In the menu bar, does it indicate that the battery is being charged or is charged?  If so you have a finicky led on your power adapter, like I do.  I either ignore it or give it a little jiggle or a few 'snaps' and it usually comes back on.
If it is not charging then you may have a faulty power adapter and try another one to see if that is the case.  Borrow one or go to the Apple store and use one of theirs.
    Ciao.

  • Airport Express not showing in Airport Utility, flashing Amber

I have 3 Airport Express units.  Two of the 3 work fine and show up in Airport Utility v.6 , but the third flashes amber and is not recognized in Airport Express.  I have tried soft and hard resets, and it always goes to a flashing amber light and is never reocgnized by Airport Utility.
If I pull down the Wifi icon and go to Airport Express, I get the following window:
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

The screenshot is still not coming through here.
Sorry, but I am not familiar with any of the model numbers that you have posted. North and South American versions of the older Express models will be A1084, A1088, or A1264.  The newest version of the AirPort Expess is A1392.
Regardless of the model number, all that you can really do is power up the Express for a few minutes, and hold in the reset button on the side of the device for 10 seconds. Then, release the reset button and allow a full minute for the Expess to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
If you still cannot "see" the Express in AirPort Utility, you either have a defective Express or a much older version that is not supported by AirPort Utillity 6.x.

  • AEBSn not found in airport utility, light flashing amber

The title pretty much sums it up. I can go directly from my DSL modem to my G5 ethernet port and my internet works. But going through the AEBSn does not. The light just flashes amber and airport utility can't find it.
It did go green when I first started using it but after it did the 5.2.1 software update, the base station seems messed up. Resetting using the pin hole in the back didn't work.
    Any suggestions? thanks!

I plugged the modem ethernet into the LAN outlet in the back of the TC
I'm not sure what you mean by that. First, the Ethernet cable from your broadband modem should be connected to the WAN port on the TC. Second, there are three LAN outlets on the back of a TC, so I'm not sure what you mean by "the LAN outlet".
The Network can now connect to the Airport with a full 4 bar fan in the icon - so far so good. In Airport Utility the Time Capsule now shows up in the sidebar - another promising sign. Then I click on it and hit Manual Setup and I get the message "Airport Utility cannot find airport device". When I close that window the AU goes into a never-ending "Reading the Time Capsule configuration" message loop and never opens the Time Capsule's settings.
Sorry. I've seen people complain of such things, but I haven't seen anyone suggest a good way to fix it.
I'd first straighten out any problems with your Ethernet cable wiring.

  • My amber light stays on and the utility recognizes the express, yet it won't restart

I have an Airport extreme that I would lik to add an airport extreme to to stream music etc.Airport utility recognizes it yet light stays amber and will not let it restart

Airport utility recognizes it yet light stays amber and will not let it restart
When the AirPort Express restarts, the indicator light normally stays solid amber for 30-35 seconds and then it will either begin to slowly blink amber (if there are settings that need to be adjusted), or it will turn green (if the settings are correct).
If the light on the Express stays solid amber for more than 45-60 seconds, the device has locked up due to incompatible settings, or the Express has experienced an internal electronic component failure.
Suggest that you perform a Factory Default Reset as follows:
Power down the Express for at least 5 minutes
Then, hold in the reset button and keep holding it for 10-12 seconds while you plug the Express back in the power
Release the reset button and, if the device is functioning normally, the amber light will begin to blink slowly in 45-50 seconds and you can re-configure the device.
If the light stays solid amber after a few tries using the Factory Default Reset, this is likely an indication that the device has failed and will need to be replaced. You might want to take it to an Apple store to have them confirm.

  • Comcast put in a new modem today and I reactivated my airport.  Even though I get a flashing amber light (not green) I still am connected to the internet.  What should I do?

Comcast gave me new modem today.  Synced with Airport.  Amber light still flashing, but I still am connected to internet OK.  Should I be worried the light isn't "green?"

Should I be worried the light isn't "green?"
    Yes, you should.
What version of operating system are you using on your MacBook Pro?  If you do not know, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac.
Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

  • ATT hooked up new u-verse router, now time capsule does not work and airport utility does not see it ?

ATT hooked up the new U-verse router replacing the older 2wire router. Old 2wire router worked fine with Airport +Time Capsule. Now only the amber light flashes. When I try to reconnect with Time Machine it does not find the Time Capsule nor does the airport utility find the Time Capsule. Any help?

Okay, the 3801HGV also doesn't bridge - but there is a workaround. Info on the workaround comes from 'SomeJoe7777' at this link:
    http://forums.att.com/t5/Residential-Gateway/U-verse-for-BUSINESS-2Wire-3600HGV- bridge-mode-or-another-AT-amp/td-p/2707013
As for connecting to your TC: the 3801HGV uses a default IP address of 192.168.1.254. It passes out IP addresses to your networked devices, and all of those IP addresses will be 192.168.1.something. The TC uses a default IP address of 10.0.1.1. As your primary router, if the TC's defaults weren't changed, the TC would be handing out addresses to your networked devices that are 10.0.1.something.
If your computer has an IP address of 192.168.1.something, it won't be able to see the TC if the TC's address is 10.0.1.1 (or anything else that's not 192.168.1.something). Hopefully that makes sense!
Go into System Preferences on your Mac, and click the Network icon. Click on Ethernet on the left side, and you'll be able to see what IP address your Mac has been given. My guess is that it has a 192.168.1.something address from the 3801HGV.
If I'm right about the 192.168.1.x address, and that your TC is running with 10.0.1.x addresses, then that's why your Mac can't see your TC. In this case, you need to change the Mac's Ethernet setup to manually set your Mac to a 10.0.1.x address for the TC to see. To do this, go to System Preferences, then Network, then click Ethernet on the left side.
Set the Configure IPv4 dropdown to 'Manually', and it will open up some places for you to fill in information:
IP Address: 10.0.1.15 (or a similar number that won't conflict with your TC's address, but starts with 10.0.1)
    Subnet Mask: put in 255.255.255.0
Router: 10.0.1.1 (I'm assuming here that your TC was running with the default IP address; if it was something different, then set Router to whatever IP address your TC was using.)
Then, click the Apply button to make your changes active.
Now, since your Mac's IP address will be in the right "subnet" for your TC, they should be able to see each other. (It's kind of like having to live on the same block as someone to be able to talk with them. In general, if your computers don't have similar addresses, they can't talk to each other. Of course that's simplified greatly, but you probably get the idea...)
Once you've got the IP addresses matched up, you should be able to see your TC. At that point, you can update the TC to work with the 3801HGV. I recommend setting it to bridge mode, but if you can follow SomeJoe7777's advice, go for it!

  • AE not recognized by Airport Utility after a steady use of several months

I have been using Airport Express (now version 6.3) with my iMac since 2007, actually I have no hassle when I set them up in the first place. But the strange thing is after a long steady connection, the internet could suddenly disappear and at the same time I cannot use Airport Utility to 'see' my AE station. It is not found when I launched Airport Utility. This happens periodically and continuously for 3 years. I usually will power off all devices including the modem, AE and the Mac for few minutes and restart them in the same sequence. It doesn't work immediately and I have to struggle with it for a while. Depends on how lucky I'm, probably after 1 hour or sometimes few days, everything will be back to normal. but I'm sure I didn't do anything special, I just repeatedly tried diagnosis tool and switching on / off things...
It is quite annoying, has anyone experienced the same? I welcome any hints to solve this. thank you.

nei hau ma and welcome to Apple discussions !
airport utility will see the AX when you connect it and your Mac by ethernet cable.
have you checked for wireless interference from other networks in your vicinity ? i have lived in HKG and know how crowded it is.
download iStumbler (won't work on Snow Leopard) or AirRadar and check on which channels other networks in your area broadcast on. change your channel(s) as far away as possible from them.
alternatively, consider getting powerline adaptors such as these and to go all wired.
    good luck !
