Update firmware on MuVo N200 or n

Hi there
I purchased a MuVo N200 back in January. It has the original firmware version .0.2 on it. I've been happy with the player other than the odd background noise and the fact the microphone and recording tracks options generate errors and cause the player to crash.
I'm trying to decide whether to update the firmware as the website says don't do it unless you are having problems and also from the postings on here it seems updating the firmware can cause more problems than it solves. I don't want to meddle with it if it will cause difficulties.
Can anyone advise if it is worthwhile updating the firmware and how to do this?
Many thanks
Alastair

The only useful feature I've gained by upgrading is the added support for folders at lower levels. .6.02 added support down to 3 levels of sub-folders - this allows syn'ing with WMP0 which uses a Music\Artist\Album folder hierarchy.
.5.0 changed the volume scale from 0-40 to 0-25 and a lot of people don't like that because is now too loud for them - I must be nearly deaf because I can hardly hear it at !
I have upgraded with every new version and have had no problems doing the upgrades. If you are worried about doing it, and don't want any of the changes, stick to the old saying "If it isn't broke, don't fix it!"
Reloading the firmware might fix some of your problems, though.
If you decide to upgrade the instructions are in the Details section of the download page. Follow them carefully.
You can also get version .0.2 here (if you need to reload your original firmware) and version ..0 here.

I have driver MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.But I can't format it.When i try it from My Computer(and right-click on removable disk),no window is showed. When I run firmware.exe and click start,it stop on allocating table, and then I get error "The semaphore timeout period has expired"(i have checked format data area). And now I don?t know what to do...When I try to make it in recovery mode,I get an error "The device is not connected to USB port".Please help me!!!!!!!!! I need to format my player! PS:I know I have bad english<!--/Text-->

Yep, that was the issue. Didn't know there was an admin user too. Guess I needed to start at the first page of the guide instead
of going to the backup/upgrade part of it. Figured that out and came here to delete my thread, but couldn't b/c you already replied. You guys are fast!

  • Volume button on Muvo N200 not work

I have a MuVo N200 Gb. A week after getting it the volume button stopped working. Rather than adjusting the volume, the mp3 player crashes and turns itself off immediately. The player can subsequently be turned on, pause/play button works and toggle switch works, in addition to music playing as normal. However, as soon as the volume buttons are pressed the mp3 player crashes again.
Does anyone know how this can be fixed?
I have the latest firmware update, which is "MuVo N200, FW release .".

    Thanks for the help.
I tried the new update and it solved the problem. Someone had posted a similar problem on this site; in their case the player crashed each time the radio option was selected on the player. There must be a bug in the software that is dri'ven by some kind of event.
The thing that concerns me the most is that when I used the "automatically check for new firmare" option on the creative site I was told I had the most up to date firmware, which clearly wasn't the case! Oh well...

I have only heard of one person in here who managed to get an earlier firmware back on once they had gone to .5.0 or beyond. They put on .0.02 - get the link to it from this excellent post by dingens.
I have tried to go to .2.0 and couldn't get it to work - haven't tried .0.02 yet - I'm not feeling brave enough!

  • New Muvo N200 - Should I upgrade firmwar

Just got a new Gb Muvo N200 and looking at the settings it is version ..0
Should I upgrade the firmware as I believe there is a newer version.
I havent experienced any pops or crackles yet but it is new and I havent listened to more than 5 minutes

    BognorRocks,
The new firmware listed some fixs and added support for Audible audio. If your not having problem with the player and audible audio support is not needed at your end then it's not needed.

  • Muvo N200 - What is it called

Was going to update my MUVO N200 on the firmware, and am unable to find it. I see that Creative renamed everything (lovely), so I can't find my player on that list of drivers anymore. Anyone know what they renamed it to?
And why do they pull this kind of stuff? Really, it just makes it more confusing for me as a consumer to figure out what I need.

On the downloads page it may be called the MuVo Micro - it's full title is MuVo Micro N200 but that seems to get shortened to either MuVo Micro or N200 depending on which region you are in.
It has been superceded by the Zen Nano Plus but don't use any downloads specifically for that player.

  • Muvo N200 not recognized by MediaSou

I have a Muvo N200. I downloaded the latest media source software. At first it would not install because it could not find a creative player attached (even though it was). After much troubleshooting I discovered that the creative install program did not play nice if I had other USB devices attached (I have an external hard disk, external DVD burner and a card reader). Once I turned all the other USB devices off then it installed fine. However now that MediaSource is installed it tells me that I have no creative player attached. The player shows up as dri've F in windows and I can read and write to it fine. It also shows up in my old MediaSource software (shows up as Muvo). I have not updated the firmware for this player as I am some reluctant to take the risk that the player will stop working. I see lots of people have problems with firmware upgrades.
Is there something I can do to get MediaSource to see my Muvo N200 player?Any help would be appreciated.

I got my problem fixed. It turns out I also needed the appropriate plugin as well. I sort of assumed it would be all one package but trolling through the forum I found reference to their being different plugins depending on what unit you have. Installing the right plug in fixed the issue.

  • Muvo n200 - background noise, to l

    hey hi
i bought muvo n200 and i had problem with voice recording because it was to quiet, so i decided to upgrade firmware, but after i have these problems:
. voice recording always to quiet
    2. but music and radio plays to loud, at minimum volume is FM still so loud that i can't hear when somebody talks to me
    3. thare is the backgroud noise, when the backlit is on, after i updated, before it wasn't
help please, otherwise i kill the player

no exact procedure, i was just trying with a bad feeling that something bad (with the player) will happen
i downgraded from .20.04 (latest), don't know what was the original version in the player, battery was in,
i've tried to run the .2.0 in normal mode and it did some errors (as expected), nothing happend
than i've tried it in recovery mode (i had problems to connect it - some drivers problem i suppose), but i did it, than i ran the .2 firmware and was trying to start(the firmware upgrade) it but i got some error or something, i tried all the buttons there, i think i wanted to format the stuff - it didn't work, and finally i ran again the start and curiously it started to upgrade - as u can see no exact process - realy don't remember how, i was only trying and suppose the firmware too (many creative bugs), (maybe it installed some drivers between i pushed the same button later)
but i remeber after i disconected the player there was still the usb connection logo on the player display, so i needed to reset it (removing battery), (and was hoping i didn't destroy it), and than power on and the excitement moment and .... it worked (luck?)
    maybe i'll write a creative novel :-|

I have a muvo n200 which for the past few days has turned itself off when ever i tried to increase up the volume. I tried to resintall the latest firmware upgrade but now my player has stopped working. When I turn on the player all i get is dots on the lcd screen with the backlight on. If it's recognised on the PC, try formatting it first and then try updating the firmware again. If you can try the player on another PC, try updating the firmware there to see if it works.
Otherwise it would be best to contact Customer Support for assistance, the player could be faulty.

  • MuVo N200 - help me, its de

I have a MuVo N200 player (28) and I used it for 6 months with no problem. Then my PC was formatted and before I reinstalled the software, I connected the player. After that it stopped working and when I connect it to the USB port, it just shows some display that it is connected.
Net I tried re-installing the software, but strangely the driver is not getting installed and now the device is also not gettign detected on the PC.
Even tried Device Manager but it shows no driver installed. I downloaded the following drivers from the internet but nothing happens as the player is not getting detected:
    MuVoN200_PCFW_LF__20_04.exe
    MuVoN200_PCFW_L4__5_0.exe
    MuVoN200_PCFW_LB___0.exe
What do I do? Pls help!

Please download the recovery mode driver and install it first:
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download2.asp?MainCategory=23&Product=0&dlcentric= 7954&Product_Name=MuVo+Micro+N200&OSName=Windows+X P
Now, remove the battery from your player. With the battery removed, hold down the Play button and connect the USB cable. Wait for Windows XP to detect your unit. It will take longer then usual, and the device will most likely have a STMP or STAC name right now. Let go of the Play button.
    Install the firmware update:
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download2.asp?MainCategory=23&Product=0737&dlcentr ic=947&Product_Name=MuVo+Micro+N200&OSName=Windows +XP
Be sure to tick "Format Data Area". Due to flash memory corruption, your music was already lost before you started. It is likely that you will receive a warning that the flash memory is not initialised. Accept it and continue.
Once this process completes (the Close button will become acti've), you still need to format your MuVo dri've in FAT32.
If you receive any error messages, be sure to write them down.
If this procedure does not make the N200 usable, you will need to contact customer support and ask for an RMA. Feel free to describe that you have tried a firmware upgrade in recovery mode. They will want to know what error messages you received in this process.
Note that the RMA procedure only applies if the unit is less then 2 months old.

  • MuVo N200-No Free Space--Doesn't play eit

Had the Muvo N200 for about 2 months and it worked great. Changed the battery the last time then all of a sudden the thing tells me there's no music! Plug it into the computer and it looked fine...all the folders and files were still there and it was only half full. Unpluged it and nothing! On the info section it says TOTAL

Try to update the firmware and format the dri've and see if it recovers.
If all else fails, contact the creative support.

That is just the fix in the latest firmware - it does verything that the earlier firmwares did as well.
I would try version .2.0 first - it is not available on the Download page but you can still get it here.

  • Muvo n200 HEL

my n200 wont turn on anymore i updated the firmware because i kept getting the error when i turned it on. but now it wont turn on anymore and when i plug it in my computer doesnt even recognise it. i've looked at other threads with the same problem and i've done everything that it says to do but still doesnt work.

I was having the same problem as C-rad after following instructions from a customer support email to update the firmware. I apparently had missed the part in the instructions to "Make sure that format data Area is selected".
Next my MuVo N200 wouldnt turn on. I finally got it to go in Recovery Mode.... Something happened like the computer restarted or shut down or something...and now my computer wont even recognize the player in recovery mode. I deleted the original creative thigns and reinstalled it....and it still doesnt recognize anything.
When I go to Device Manager and Hidden Devices when it is plugged in, I cant find anything that I would think is the player?
What do I do next? I would really appreciate any help I could get.
