Update for iOS 8.1.2 requires 5.6 GB on iPhone 5S?
I'm currently running iOS 7.1.2 on my iPhone 5S and my iPad 2.
Is that 5.6 GB number really correct? That's pretty big on a 16 GB phone. Since my total user storage shows 12 GB, is iOS 7 consuming the bulk of that 4 GN difference, and I'll get that back after the installation? Or will the OS consume that 4 GB plus the 5.6 GB it's telling me it needs for a total of 9.6 GB out of the total 16 GB? That's 60% of the total. That sounds like a huge chunk to me.
Curiously, my iPad 2 was only telling me that I needed 2.4 GB. Is iOS 8.1.2 twice as big for the 5S phone as it is for the iPad 2
What's the story here?
1. Yes. It accounts for both the compressed and decompressed versions of the update.
2. Most of the space required will be free once the update is complete. If desired, update it from iTunes on the computer; most of the temporary files will be stored there instead of on the device.

Me too. I've been an Apple fan for a long time but things are starting to get painful. I hate telling people not to upgrade but I can't honestly recommend otherwise.
A bad thing is that these problems are not predictable. I have an iPad Mini - no retina that I got for free for opening a new bank account. I am a developer so I have run it on iOS 8 for some time. Even the released version has annoying bugs that weren't there on iOS 7. While the performance isn't great, it is useable. But a retina would have higher requirements and perhaps iOS 8 makes your machine too slow.
Do try all of the resetting and troubleshooting techniques. They may help. -

What media sync options? Where are they ? How do I change them?Afraid, this doesnt help. I've already unselected about 100 iTunes, resynced, and I still get the same message about 610 MB needing to be deleted.
What is so magic about 610 MB as a number?
Is this anything to do with iCloud? I was on the free 20 MB offeruntil last month and then got downgraded to 5 because I could n't see the need for paying for extra Cloud space. Is this the reason why? -

Unfortunately yes, though technology would never move on if it kept to older standards and did not strive to do more.
The app store always gives you the option to use a previous version of the app IF it is available for your device.

I bought this MAC from a family member. Did everything need to change items to my apple id. Today I did the update for IOS Yosemite now the app store is auto filling with someone else id?? But they seem to be my apps??
If you didn’t erase the drive and install using you AppleID, then the OS and the purchased apps are still registered to the other AppleID. You cannot change that by logging into iCloud. Apps are forever tied to the AppleID used to purchase/download them.
You have to erase the drive and download/install the Apps using your AppleID. -

Is this on wifi or cellular data?
Have you tried a reset? Hold down the home/power button until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
Have you gone into the email settings and making sure the password are still there? -

If you are running iOS 4, you will need to update the iPad via iTunes on your computer (can't do OTA updates unless you have iOS 5 or higher).
If you have a first generation iPad, unfortunately you won't be able to update to iOS 6 (iOS 5 is the highest you can update to on the original iPad).
If you are on an iPad 2, 3, or 4th generation with iOS 5 and it still isn't working, try holding down on both the Sleep AND Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds (ignore the red slider button). Keep holding it until the Apple Logo appears. When you see the Apple logo on the black screen, let go of the buttons. This “reset” fixes a lot of iPad issues and might work to resolve the update issue. Try updating again.

How to delete updates for IOS 7?
Updates for IOS 7 download automatically when my device is connected to a power source and Wifi. I don't want to install them as I don't like this flash and useless design. My problem is, I just cannot delete those updates that take up nearly 2 G in my device. They are now mokey on my back. Whate can I do?
Everyone,
In order to delete some of the songs that are not delete(able?) you have to first re-download them from the cloud. There just seems to be some confusion with the itunes match having songs show up that are not actually on your machine therefore, you aren't able to delte them.
-'Settings > Music' and toggle OFF "Show All Music"
-delete all the songs you are able to download.
-make a note of all teh songs you can't and then,
-'Settings > Music' and toggle ON "Show All Music"
-go back to iTunes on your device and re-download (click on the cloud icon) all the songs you noted in the last step
-Once they're all downloaded on to your device,
-go back to 'Settings > Music' and toggle OFF "Show All Music"
and the songs you donwloaded should be the only ones showing up.
-Delete those and you should have a "media on deivce" or something
-go back to 'Settings > Music' and toggle ON "Show All Music"
-and you should have a clean iTunes Match library. -
I got Software update for iOS 6.1 ..
After installation - Phone shows message to connect to iTune,
I connect to iTune - I got message - iTune has detected iPhone in recovery mode. you must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTune.
I click on Restore iPhone - it gives error
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (-1).
Not my phone is not working - Its dead - is show the screen - Connect to iTune.

Why won't my itunes recognize that there is an update for ios 7

Unfortunately there is little you can do here but keep waiting for the update to appear in either the Software update in the Settings app or in iTunes.
