Update has wipe iPhone & restore is failing

I finally updated my iPhone 5 from ios7 to the latest version via itunes
Before the update I installed the latest version of iTunes & fully backed up my iPhone, however not on iCloud
The update restored my phone to factory settings. But when I then tried to restore from backup I'm getting a message that 'failed to restore from backup, session failed'
There's no error code to refer to. I can see the backup folder on my laptops drive (I'm on windows 7)
What can I do. Terrified I've lost lots of pictures in my folder & photo vault app

Brillaint update process Aborts then restores and fails.... what now

Ok so plug in my Ipod touch that i really dont use all that often into my laptop itunes recognises there is newer software.
I accept to update, it backs up and then tries to update, aborts half way through
It then tells me theres a problem (really) and it suggests a restore which i accept, not much on the ipod touch, so not much harm can come....
Wrong during restore it fails again, i get a msg from itunes telling me so
and now the ipod wont even turn on. blank nada nothing, removed from the computer and re-plug and now windows just tells me theres a device plugged in it doesnt recognise and tells me its 'malfunctioned' and itunes wont pick it up either.
anyone shed some light down my tunnel.

Trip to apple store was as useful as tits on a bull
Told me to ring support, after support spent 15 minutes confirming what i already knew (it was dead) i have to send them to it and they will replace it.
Satisfactory end i guess but really it was only a firmware update.....

Itunes on win 7 working, but updates to my iphones/itouch OS fail.

itunes won't update any of my iphones, itouches, or iPad- the installation stops and says installation failed.
Now ipod Touch- stuck on apple logo- needs restored- installation gets almost through, then stops saying "installer missing program."
no error code or indication what program is missing-
also win 7 itunes 10.4 won't update to win 7 10.5 ... maybe that helps diagnose prob.
done all the suggestions- restart without security software, unplug all usb devices, etc.
maybe an obscure setting or out of date program needs removing or updating- i.e. bonjour or other.
Any suggestions or good links to try?

Move the Safari app from the Desktop to the Applications folder.
Restart your Mac.
That's why you see this:
When I try to do the updates my computer says it has ready it goes through like it is downloading them then at the end it says some of the files could not be saved to "/" files.
After your restart your Mac, click the Apple  menu (top left in your screen) then click: Software Update ...

New iphone, restore backup failed with - An error occurred. How do I fix this?

Have tried to follow the transfer instructions but it does not seem to work.
Everytime I choose to restore a backup when I set up / activate the new iphone, it fails after some 10-12 seconds with the message that it could not restore because an error occurred.
It says nothing else about what the error is and I have to start the set up / activation all over.
So how so I solve this?
Other 'answers' says how to transfer, but it does not work for me and the answers I have found does not address this issue.

Search the error code in the support search and you should find something that will walk you through it, but without an error code it's a little hard to know what you're talking about

HT4993 iTunes update has my iphone 5 stuck in recovery mode

I recently installed the latest version of iTunes on my PC and then connected my iphone 5 to sync a playlist to my iphone 5.
When I connected my iphone 5 with the usb to my pc iTunes said that I needed to update the itunes software on my iphon
I followed the instructions itunes gave and clicked to install the update and during the process it put my phone in recovery mode with the itunes logo, an up arrow and the usb cord.
Now no matter what I do the phone wont go out of recovery mode. I have tried following the recovery steps by turning off the phone then holding down the wake + home buttons, then releasing the wake button when I see the silver apple while holding the home button but now itunes doesnt show that my phone is connected and its still going back to the recovery screen on the device
I get no option to recovery my phone in itunes it just goes back to the recovery screen.
I was running whatever the latest iOS is as of 3-14-14.
I really ***** that iTunes bricked my phone. I dont even care about recovery the data (even though I have backed my phone up to icloud previously) but now I cant get my phone working at all it is just stuck on the recovery screen.

After 5hrs of work last night I finally got my iPhone out of the recovery mode/DFU loop. I cannot find the discussion which helped me, but in essence:
Connect your iPhone to iTunes - in my case iTunes did not recognise a device was connected
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Lock button for around 15secs, until phone reboots
Release the Sleep/Lock button, but keep the Home button pressed for a few more seconds until Apple logo appears
Drivers will begin to be installed and iTunes will hopefully recognise your device.
Once I did this and restored my iPhone from a backup, I realised that my original iOS7 update attempt had been successful, it simply couldn't verify this with Apple due to server traffic volumes, I presume.

Why has my iPhone restored to a backup in October during iCloud install?

On Monday, I plugged in my iphone and, as per usual, there were updates available. One was iCloud. I clicked to perform updates. There was an error message to say it could not be completed. I let it continue updating and it seemed to work, although it took a while. I selected some settings on my iPhone concerning iCloud and found that the iphone seems to have backed up to October 2011 - the calendar is up to date, but the contacts were gone, and all the apps were from October 2011, and the text messages stopped at October.
Can I click on 'Restore', select to back up (as it asks) and choose a sync back up from last week? I have never used Restore before and I am scared to go through the process if I can't select a recent sync back up from before this problem. I would like to get my apps (notes, other apps, photos and texts) up tp date. Luckily, I was plugging it in for photos, so they are already saved on my computer.
Forgive me for not being completely clear. It is definitely my fault for not concentrating on the error message.

Have you checked document and data syncing is enabled in settings > iCloud and iCloud is enabled in settings > Pages.
For future reference, you might also consider backing up documents created or edit on your mobile device by sharing a copy to iTunes.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have back-ups etc - I have tried it on two different laptops and have tried at least 10 times but keeps failinhg at the same point - has anyone else had this and found a cure or is the phone dead. Error -1 could indicate a hardware issue. You may need to take the device to an Apple Store and have it looked at

Uhless this program will get the iPod out of recovery mode you will have to restore via iTunes.

Normally, I would suggest restoring the iPad and uninstall and reinstall iTunes but you have done both of those things - more times than you ever imagined!
Have you thought about turning auto syncing off?
Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
If you do this you can backup the iPad right away before it syncs. You may want to go into all of the iTunes tabs and just make sure that all of the current content on the iPad is selected to sync before you actually do sync.
This doesn't solve the problem, but it would prevent the automatic sync and erasing content. Hopefully, in the next few days- when iOS 5 is released - you will also be relieved of this weird iPad behavior - since the iOS devices are supposed to become PC free.
BTW - and this is no excuse for what you are experiencing, but I have found that some of the game apps that I had on my iPad turned out to be quite troublesome and after I removed them, my problems went away. I know that is almost sacrilege with regard to the Angry Birds addiction .... But I'm just saying ...
