in order to update iOS 4.x to 6.x (iPhone 4)?

If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

you can sync your contacts and things under your own itunes and your wife can have her own... or both in one as long as you have it synced in the same computer they will be there
if you name ur phones its easier to tell which is which
my husband kids and i all have our names and then iphone next to it and it creates a different backup for each and then we update and we restore from there it lets you choose which backup you want...

I updated to ios 6 on my iPod touch earlier and had the same issue. I think iCloud has been backing mine up though. I freaked out because all 500 of my photos were gone and my stupid self didnt do a back up... But then they all reappeared :..) Maybe i just got lucky? Good luck though..

Same problem. Phone was unusable. I managed to turn airplane mode on during one of the phone's "on" moments. It went off once more but then came back on and stayed on long enough to back up and restore via iTunes. As I don't rely on the phone to retain photos, contacts or mail etc I chose to do a complete restore and treat it as a new phone. I did this just to make it as clean a restore as possible but you may be able to restore from your backup and get the same fix? All is good still some 24 hours later. Hope this helps.

I attempted to install iOS 7.0.2 on my iPad (3rd gen). The screen has frozen. Have tried resetting and restoring (via iTunes). Error mssg says that my iPad cannot be restored. Now what do I do?

All you have to do is connect the iPod to our computer and update via iTunes. You do not have to seperately erase and restore the iPod. That is done automatically as part of the update process.
To update see:

You need iTunes 10.5 or later on the computer. Y will go to iOS 5.1.1. the last update fopr the 3G -

- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server

My parents, like many middle class people, only make so much money. My old Ipod Nano broke, and my friend was thinking on giving me her Gen 4. My parents had 0 faith in my friend and went out and baught a used GEN2-- and two years of insurance. I cried from joy. As I don't have a phone, this is a great oppertunity to get a texting app and some other cool apps. Or so I thought. I stayed up for a long time last night trying to figure it all out. Sure, I had internet access, but not much else. It said it needed an update for it to be used with the apps, and from what i gathered, it was possible. I keep trying to figure out where to get the update... From what I've heard.. you have to update with them. no buts. My family doesn't have that kind of money, I'm lucky to get my paws on this. I'm worried they just wasted 150 dollars on nothing. Honestly, they make millions and millions of dollars. I don't think it could cost that much to update all the generations, more people would be on board then; not find out that they need to spend 300-400 dollars every time a new one comes out. but no, they need to make more new ipods/phones that arent even that much different.. maybe a bit bigger and with new updates, but honestly... I think that'd take more money than give. I really was exited, but I'm not so sure I should be anymore. What do I do?
That version cannot be upgraded further if it's a 2G model. The 3G model can be upgraded to iOS 5.x.x. You can't have a 2G model because the maximum iOS version is 4.2.1.

i phones updated iso 8.01 all three phones will not connect to service provider and touch id

all three where working fine until the 8.01 updateApple just pulled the update because it is a major fubar! You will have to rollback your iPhone to the base iOS 8 using iTunes and Apple needs to seriously test its patches!
Update:
Simply connect your phone to iTunes and back up your data. Then, click the “Restore iPhone” button and follow the on-screen instructions. It’s a huge pain, but at least it’s better than having your shiny new iPhone turned into a big expensive iPod touch. -

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network. -
The new software update - iOS 7.0.2 is killing the battery in my iPad. I have searched online and taken the recommended measures to decrease battery use, but within hours my iPad is completely dead. It would take days to kill the battery before this update. I am very frustrated. Can I undo this update???
This typically happens when some apps on the phone were interrupted by the upgrade. When it comes back up the app tries to resume and can not. You have to find and kill that app(s).
Do you have an Exchange account?
That is usually the culprit. Go into Settings and turn off all of the toggles for the Exchange account. Then reset the phone (hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears). When the phone powers back on, turn the toggles back on.
Do the same for all mail accounts if you don't have Exchange or that doesn't resolve the issue.
If it is not Exchange/Mail then it could be another app(s).
With iOS 7 you can control what apps run in the background. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. This will list all of the apps that can run in background. Turn them all off and restart. If this fixes the problem turn on a few at a time until you find the one causing the trouble. -

The backups mentioned above only back up NEW photos I took and put them on my cloud. My PC wouldn't recognize my phone without updating to IOS 7. I did some chores and came back to my phone and I have an error message on my iPhone screen. When I log into iTunes, it asks me to restore my phone, but I know that will wipe out the photos for good. Is there any way to get these old pics off my phone before restoring? Very special pics of my little boy on here.
