Update iOS from 3.1 to 4.2

i updated iOS from 3.1 to 4.2 after i click at update now..but after complete, the phone restart and now cant read the SIM. so cant unlock!!!

The first thing you need to do is confirm which model of Touch you have.Look at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 which will help you identify your model. look further down that page at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#iPod_touch_2nd_generation and examine the pictures. Notice the difference between a 1st and 2nd generation model.
If your iPod is a 1st generation model, it cannot be upgraaded to anything past iOS 3.1.3.
If it's a 2nd generation model, I think I'm right in saying that to upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 (which is as high as a 2nd gen Touch can go) you need to purchase the update. (I've tried finding a speedcific page about this, but have had no luck at the moment, sorry.)

IPad/iPhone Not Appearing in iTunes After Updating iOS from 8.0 to 8.1.1

After updating my iPad and iPhone from iOS 8.0 to iOS 8.1.1, neither device will show up any longer in iTunes. After the update completed, I received the following error message in a pop-up window:
"iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. An unknown error occurred (0xE800001F)."
I've restarted both devices and my computer and have the most up-to-date version of iTunes installed. I'm on a Windows 8 PC.
Any suggestions?

Updated iOS from 4 to 5 . Now iPad shuts down momentarily.

That's because OTA (Over the Air) updating was not available until 5.0. You have to physically connect to the computer you sync with to get your IOS upgraded to 5.0 or later before you can updgrade wirelessly.

My iphone 4 froze updating iOS from itunes.

Hard resetting doesn't do anything, and whether plugged in to the computer or not it just shows a USB cord arrowing to the itunes logo.

Is there a way to check if I'm shutting down the phone completely? I don't get a red slider, but if I hold both home and sleep for a while it turns off. It's just completely indisinguishable from if I just let it sit for a few seconds, in which case it also goes blank and doesn't respond to button presses.
Also is it important that iTunes is shut down completely before pluging it in and holding the home button? The instructions seem to start from it being off since it mentions that it should start or if not I should start it, but like I said it won't start if the phone's plugged in.

OK, sounds like none of your apps are in iTunes yet. What you need to do is go to the iTunes store in the left hand column then go to the App store at the top of the page under the little apple icon, then go to the right hand side of this page and look for the link called "purchased". Click this link and then choose the button in the lower right hand corner called "downlad all". After you have all your apps downloaded to iTunes, you should be able to sync them to your phone again.

The iPad 1 can't run the newer operating systems. It'd be like trying to play a bluray disc in your 6 year old dvd player....it simply lacks the hardware to make the software run.
No suggestion about the camera, but given that Apple's attitude seems to be to focus more on the more mobile devices for photography (the iPhone and Touch cameras got features, the iPad and mini didn't), that is highly unlikely. You can tell Apple what you want, but you'd probably be money ahead to get a digital camera.
as to the photos, anything put on via iTunes has to come off via iTunes.Your main alternative would be to look for photo apps that offer file exchange that may give you more functionality.
