UPDATE IOS ON IPAD1 DELETES EVERYTHING-HELP!

while updating my ipad1 to latest OS, it inadvertantly wiped everything and is looking to be restored-all thats visible on screen is the cable and itunes icon...
is all lost forever?

On Mac:
Check in iTunes Preferences > Devices Tab > you should see a backup listed for before the update; if no backup listed; you may have to start from scratch.
On PC:
Check Edit > Preferences > Devices Tab > you should see backup listed for before the update; if no backup listed; you may have to start from scratch.
 You can ctrl click (Mac) right click (PC) on the name of the iPad in the column on the left side of iTunes and look for "Restore from Backup" will also give you a list of any backups available.

Is this an iPhone or iPad question? You posted in the iPad forum.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

I think you misunderstand... iCloud backups are stored in the cloud and not on the PC. So, if you do an iCloud backup, it won't take up room on the PC.
But, if you want to transfer the iTunes purchases over, set up Home Sharing. Also, see this link.

  • HT4623 Update ios not working. Please help

I have updated iTunes, My iPhone 4 is on ios 4.3. Nothing else has worked to update ios. So I manually downloaded ios 5. When I held shift on update and selected the ios 5 it worked. Now that I have the update it gets stuck on "preparing software" and "contacting iPhone activation center". It has been three hours on this. Please help.

    Hi,
I had that problem with ios 7.0.3  I didn't have any sound when I first updated,  I did this as follow:
    • A reset using the close & home button brought the sound back but it was horrid.
(volume adjustment didn't improve the sound)
    • A second reset fixed the sound.
    Hope that helps.

  • Updating iOS App without deleting the SQL DB

    Hello there,
I have a huge knot in my brain right now....
I need to update my iOS App, wich has a local SQL db installed (generated when you run the app for the first time).
Users have encrypted data stored in this database. Now, i'm not sure of what i should do, or rather how an update on iOS works.
If you install an update, will the entire App get wiped (with the database) and then replaced with the updated App, or how does this work?
IMPORTANT: I need to update the App, but the Database can't be touched or replaced, wich is stored in the applicationStorageDirectory.
Thank you very much for your help

It is usually a good idea to keep the database in the ApplicationStorageDirectory directory so that it is not accessible by other applications and it is preserved when the application is updated. -source: http://book.zi5.me/books/read/2473/118
Do you know a solution to my question? writing and reading arrays using application storage directory. its on the 1st page of the forum. id appreciate the help.

  • How can I update my ipod without deleting everything on it?

Ok, so here is the situation, and I am pretty sure I am screwed.
I have an ipod touch, 32 GB 3rd or 4th gen (the one right before the one with a camera)
My macbook (1st gen) died last april, taking with it all my music, photos, apps and other such files that are still stored on my ipod.
I've already used a 3rd party ripping tool to save most of my music, but I have no way of saving or backing up my apps or photos.
I am currently on my brother's macbook trying to update my ipod so my apps will work right (It has not been updated since april) and
I keep running into the issue of distroying everything that is on my ipod.
I do not have to money to get a new computer myself right now, so I can't really just start over, and I really do not want to repay for all the apps I have purchased. is there any way to update the IOS on my ipod touch without distroying all my apps, music and photos?

  • IOS 5 installation deleted everything

I just updated to iOS 5 and then i noticed that almost all my apps were gone (not all of them which is very weird). I can't restore because the restore-point that was created during the installation of iOS 5 isn't there anymore for some reason. I had (among other things) a really important audio recording which i did with the app "Audio Memo" for a school-related assignment.  I desperately need at least that recording back. Is that at all possible? I have no idea what to do. As i said, there isn't any restore-point from which i have that specific recording. It said it created a restore-point when i installed iOS 5, but it isn't there. And the one before that is like a month old, so that is a no-go. Is there anything i can do at all?

Unfortunately, it's not a bug. The installation process pulls from the last backup and if the file you're looking for isn't there, it wouldn't be replaced. I learned the same lesson the hard way. I would make sure you have redundant backups for important files via Dropbox or a similar service. I know the frustration.
Not true, the iOS 5 installation backs up your iPad before the installation starts. The iPad content is supposed to be restored to the state it was in before the installation began. This includes all installed Apps. Presumably this is done because there have been changes in the data structures used by iOS 5 and the data must, therefore, be recreated for iOS 5. If some are experiencing lost files it may be because the installation process did not succesfully complete.

  • HT4623 But the last time I updated my iPod, it deleted everything on it..

Well, I want to update my iPod but I'm scared because the last time I updated it, it deleted every single thing on it . I was really mad about it . I don't know what I did wrong though..

Sounds like previously you updated the iPod on other than its syncing computer.
When you update via iTunes the iTunes makes a bacup but the backup does not included media synced to the iPod like apps and music. If the media is not on the iPod it can't be restored to the iPod as part of the updating process.

  • I cannot use personal hotspot on my iphone 4 after update ios 7.1

I cannot use personal hotspot on my iphone 4 after update ios 7.1. Please help me.

The update may have caused a change in identification for the network. Also, you never answered if the network appears ready on the phone to share. You may have to reset the network, and forget the network on the iPod Touch and the computer before attempting to connect again.

  • My I phone went through the ios 6.1 update and it deleted EVERYTHING off my phone. it even deleted all of my backed up information, how do I get it back?

My IPhone went through the IOS 6.1 update and deleted everything. How do I get it back? It has done this every time there is a new update, and every time I have to redue overything by hand. please help me

The last step in the update process is a restore from the backup created as the first part of the update process.
Most likely, the update was not allowed to complete and therefore the restore did not happen.
Simply connect the device to the computer and restore from backup.
