Update iOS on Original iPhone
I have an un-activated Original iPhone that was replaced by my 3GS. I'd like to update the old model to iOS 3.1.3 (which, IIRC, was the last version to work on the Original iPhone) before I pass it on to someone else.
Can I just hook it up to iTunes and click on Restore to Default? I plan on using my G4 iMac running Tiger and iTunes 9 so as to not mess up the settings on my main iMac.
What is confusing you?
You can use the iphone as an ipod:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406
You CANNOT update or restore without the SIM in the iphone that was previously active or an active SIM.
From the article above:
"To continue using your original iPhone without active cellular service, leave the inactive SIM card in place. You will be able to use the iPhone as you would an iPod touch (Wi-Fi only, no cellular service) as long as you keep the SIM with which it was last used, even if you update or restore the operating system of the original iPhone."

I just updated iOS on my iPhone 5.
What a shock!! Where is the premium look and feel I bought my iPhone for?
If I wanted the lokale feel of iOS 7.0 I would have bought a much cheeper taiwanese smartphone.
Please let me know how I can return to the original look and feel of the iPhone surface I bought my phone for.You had plenty of time to look at screenshots on the internet and read various blog posts about iOS 7.

I have never updated ios on my iPhone 4. I am currently running ios 4. I tried to update yesterday to ios 6 but many hours into the backup I got an error message saying that continuing would cause all of my phone contents to be lost. What should I do?
Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards. -
while updating iOS 5 my iPhone responses nothing but logo of iTune and USB port, now what can I do?
Do just like the diagram indicates: connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes on the computer and then restore.

After I've updated IOS in my iphone, all the applications, musics are gone. How do get everything back? Thank you.
Plug it into iTunes, Control-click on the iPod in the left frame and select "Restore from backup." Should put it back like new.

After update iOS 5.1 iPhone 4 camera on lock screen doesn't open the app
Tonebox,
I couldn't get my camera to work smoothly
the 1st ten times,or so,I tried to open it.
As it turns out,it isn't as pressure sensitive as I have
grown accustomed to, and required a gesture that feels
rather awkward, by comparison to the ones I have been using. -
After updating iOS 7 my iPhone 5 and 4S is not able to find my BOSE music system Bluetooth. However, my iPad can identify. How to solve this issue?
Try resetting network settings at Settings > General > Reset.
This will erase all saved wi-fi networks and settings for all previously connected wi-fi networks along with erasing all paired Bluetooth devices. -

After downloading the lastest update, IOS 6, my iphone will not download apps.
after downloading the lastest update, IOS 6, my iphone will not download apps. help
I'm having the same problems. Can't even find out if Apple is working on it. Tried to downgrade but is not supported by apple so error 3194 comes up which is verifying with the apple web site. Which then stops everything. I understand you can modify the "hosts" file to by pass the issue, but hate doing that as it gets involved. May try it if I can't get any satisfaction from apple.

How the heck do I get this thing to restore?
I was updating the iOS when it froze. Did nothing for hours. So I turned the phone off. When I went to turn it on again, the apple logo showed up and then the phone kept going back and forth between a black screen and the apple logo. Is there anyway to get this thing to respond and go back to iOS 5?iPhones don't take baths too well. You can do what the other responder suggested and put it in rice for a few days, but this usually doesn't work too well. Here in the US Apple has an out of warranty replacement policy for situations like this. You might want to check on the policy in the UK, but I'm betting it's pretty much the same. Here in the US, they'll give us a replacement phone for the subsidized price we paid when new. For example, a 16GB iP4 costs $199 and we are tied to a two year contract with AT&T. So, when a phone goes for an unplanned swim, Apple will let us purchase a replacement phone for the same price. Good luck.......
