Update iphone on another computer

i want to get the new iphone update, but im not in any condition to get to the computer that i sync my music from. i was wanting to know if i update my iphone from another computer, will it make me sync the itunes on the alternate computer when i update my iphone?

ha well i figured my own problem out so i thought i would share my experiance with everyone else. it turns out that you can update your iphone from any computer, and as long as you dont click sync then it will safely update your iphone without deleting any of your iphone's saved files

  • Updating iphone on another computer?

OK, long story. My recent wife and I both have iphones. The company she works for doesn't allow itunes on her company laptop which is her only computer. Therefore she can't get updates of new versions of itunes software on her iphone. I try to update her iphone on my computer, but a prompt comes up after I click on 'update' that says, if I continue she will lose all her songs, videos etc on her iphone. Can anyone tell me how I can update her iphone on my computer without losing all her purchased data?
    Thank you

This will be a problem then.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with a single computer only.
If she used her own iTunes account to purchase her iTunes content - not with your iTunes account, you need to create another computer login account for your wife. iTunes includes an option to transfer content that was purchased from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for content that was purchased from the iTunes Store only.
After getting her computer login account set up on your computer, she needs to authorize the computer with her iTunes account with iTunes. After doing so, with her iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From- the name of her iPhone.
Even after doing this, when syncing iTunes content for the first time, the iTunes content on her iPhone will be erased followed by being replaced on her iPhone via the iTunes sync process. After this, she can install firmware updates on her iPhone and purchase iTunes content with her iTunes account when logged into her account on your computer.

  • Iphone on another computer

i have my iphone on a computer but that computer is broken and i need to update etc and have it linked to another but it will not let me do anything help!!

I've updated software from another computer... you don't even have to log onto itunes under your own Apple ID.
Remember tho, you can't update to iOS 5 unless you have the newest iTunes. Then just plug the phone in and click 'check for updates'
    Cheers!

  • I sync d my iphone with another computer by mistake, i sync d my iphone with another computer by mistake

I syn'd my iphone with another computer by mistake and now when i want to sync with the proper computer i keep getting the user id from the other computer

Because you transferred apps from the iTunes library on your friend's computer that were downloaded with your friend's Apple ID, which is in effect stealing in regards to any paid apps that were transferred.
All apps - all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps.
You need to delete the apps that were purchased/downloaded with your friend's Apple ID and re-download the apps that were purchased/downloaded with your Apple ID.

  • Can I sync iphone with another computer

Can I sync iphone with another computer?

If you do, you will lose all of your information on the phone. You can only sync to 1 itunes library at a time on 1 computer.

  • What all information will i loose if I sync iPhone with another computer?

    Hey,
Just wanted to understand what all information will i loose if i sync my iphone with another computer?
will i loose my contacts and messages?
    Thanks
    Cheers

Syncing your iPhone with iTunes on another computer will not erase all data on your iPhone. SMS/MMS will not be touched, photos/video in your iPhone's Camera Roll, the same for notes, email accounts, and iPhone settings.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first with a warning message provided indicating this will happen.
You can sync contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks with the supported applications on multiple computers.
You can transfer iTunes content and photos from one computer along with syncing contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks with the supported applications.
When connecting your iPhone to iTunes on another computer, you will be provided a warning message that your iPhone has been synced with iTunes on another computer. If you don't select to transfer any iTunes content or photos from another computer, no iTunes content and photos that were transferred from a different computer will be erased from your iPhone. If you select to sync contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks only with the supported applications on another computer, only this data will be touched on your iPhone.

  • Trying to update iPhone but my computer doesn't have enough memory and I don't want to loose media.

Trying to update iPhone but my computer doesn't have enough memory for backup.  It says I will loose all media off phone if I proceed.  What do I do?

I think you misunderstand... iCloud backups are stored in the cloud and not on the PC. So, if you do an iCloud backup, it won't take up room on the PC.
But, if you want to transfer the iTunes purchases over, set up Home Sharing. Also, see this link.

  • I am having trouble with syncing my iPhone to another computer and I can't change the settings on the other computer to 'manually manage.....' because the computer is not working!

I am having trouble with syncing my iPhone to another computer because the computer that my iPhone is currently synced with is not working

You can sync/manually mange iphone with one and only one computer.  If you sync/manually mange to anther, then it will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
    What "trouble" are you having?

My laptop I use to sync my iphone is out of order at present.i need to sync my iphone on another computer, how do i go about this

What are you trying to sync. The iPhone is designed to sync with a single computer and any attempt to sync to another one will result in the data on the phone being deleted.

How do I transfer music, videos to my iPhone from another computer that is not the one my iPhone syncs with.
    Thank You!

Take a look at this -> Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Short version: iTunes will transfer the purchases made from the iTunes Store on your iPhoneh to your computer. It treats all other music and video syncing as a one-way street, to comply with copyright laws (wont sync stuff not purchased through iTunes from your iPhone to your computer).

  • I can't update my iPhone on another computer

I have iPhone 4 running 4.3.3 and i'm trying to update to IOS5
my laptop has a low space in local disk C so i can't backup and update, so i installed itunes on another computer with larger local disk C and connected my iphone and authorized the computer as my 2nd of 5 allowed computers to authorize. but when i tried to update it said that only name, notes and calenders are going to be backup-ed and all the other data will be lost !
is there something wrong i did ?

Just because its authorized, doesn't mean that it has all of your media on it.  That being said, when you upgrade to iOS 5, it uses all the data saved on the computer and settings for your sync to reinstall everything.  If you have purchased stuff on your phone you can click File and then I believe Get Purchases or Transfer Purchases and it will back them up first and you will be able to reinstall those.  But any ripped media that was not purchased through iTunes your out of luck.

  • Update iOS on another computer

I've previously asked this question a few months ago but left the issue on hold to gather some more information which I never managed to get.
I have a young granddaughter back staying with me for a while and she has an iPod Touch 4th Gen which she was given at Christmas. It's still on the original OS and she would like to update to the latest version. As she doesn't have a computer back at her own home she uses a friend's computer to manage her music on it so it will be authorised on that computer. However, she has been unable to update the OS, whether due to lack of knowledge or whatever.
I have two iPods and an iPad2 on my own computer and I would like to know how I can update my granddaughters iPod OS in a way that she can still retain being able to manage her own media when she goes back home.
Instead of using my main computer and causing any conflict with my own media, apps etc and what is on her iPod, I also have a laptop which I can install iTunes onto and do a backup and update if this would help the issue but is this a feasible way around the problem. Also, what happens when she then connects to her friend's computer when she goes back home.
I'd appreciate a bit of help with this please.

In order to sync with another computer she will have to restore the iPod from that other computer.
If you update the iPod on yuor computer and not add any of your media then your/she can:
    - Go to Settings>Store and sign out of yur account (if signed in) and sign into her accont.
    - Redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - She can purchase new music and app on the iPod and she can manage music and videos with other omputers by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    - She can manually backup app data to another computer by right clicking on the iPid under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. If the iPod has iOS 5 she can backup to iCloud.
