  • Tried to update iphone via itunes and now all stopped working

So, after some issues with drivers over the weekend, I decided today to finally update iphone.
Attached phone to laptop, started upgrade.
Now it has completely frozen with the itunes icon on the screen alongwith a usb cable.
According to itunes the phone is in recovery mode and needs to be restored prior to anything else.
But it simply won't do anything. It has lost and since found the driver again, itunes is working, phone is frozen.
Apparently the best driver is installed.
Going to work now, so will check in later.
    Cheers all.
    G

You will have to restore. If the option is there or available forst back up your device to itunes. After the backup is complete you may backup from restore. This will restore your device whilst at the same time keepin all of your previous data. nothing will be wiped off.

  • Can't update iPhone with iTunes

    Hi everyone,
I've recently downloaded the most recent update for the iPhone 3GS and tried to install it today. Every time I try to update the phone, the message "The iPhone "Sian's iPhone" could not be updated. This device isn't eligible for the requested build" appears. (See below)
My iPhone isn't jailbroken, my iTunes software is up-to-date (10.2.2) and my laptop's software is up-to-date (Mac OS X 10.6.7).
I've never had this problem before... Sometimes when I plug my phone into the wall or in the laptop it says "Charging is not supported with this accessory" even though I'm using genuine Apple accessories, etc. I'm not sure if this helps you determine the issue.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me update my iPhone!

Here's what is mentioned for your error in the updated version (June 22nd) of iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
Don't forget to update iTunes, the newest version is 10.3.1 Maybe a different USB cable is also worth a try.
This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an error 3194. If you receive this error, update to the latest version of iTunes. If you do have the latest version of iTunes, this can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new IPSW. 3rd party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue, to resolve please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see  iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod; follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store.

  • HT1438 Updating iphone with itunes

I tried to update my iphone 4 & now it won't turn on unless I plug it into itunes. I don't have a computer capable of the updated version of itunes so I don't know how to get my phone working again. Help!

If I go to the Apple store, will it deleted everything on my phone?
Yes...  Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...
After you have Recovered your Device... Restore from the most recent Backup...

  • Just updated iPhone with iTunes and everything on iPhone is wiped and even says there is no simcard inserted.

I just updated my iPhone with iTunes from my Mac and the entire contents of the iPhone are wiped. It wants me to reconfigure from scratch but then says there is no simcard inserted so must have wiped that too?   I have no Wifi where I am. iTunes will not allow me to access the iPhone either - it can detect it but as it says there is no simcard it wont read it.
Can anyone help I am soooo annoyed!

The switch from an available wi-fi network to AT&T's cellular network and back again has always been automatic and seamless with nothing special required - as the iPhone is designed to do.
If the standard troubleshooting steps do not resolve this, which in order are power your iPhone off and on, reset, restore with iTunes, the next step (assuming you are in the U.S.) is calling AppleCare at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

  • As I was in the process of updating Iphone via itunes, I got an error message now do I need to restore and lose all my media info

I need to know how do I use my phone now since I was in the process of updating the iphone via itunes, now it is in the mode of connecting to itunes!  I really don't want to restore my phone as I may be losing all my media and other contact information!  How do I get out of the stupid mode??

Your apps / music / photos etc are stored in iTunes on your computer.
Just do the Restore then re sync your iTunes media.

Make sure and create a backup following the instructions at that link.

  • Restoring & Updating iPhone on iTunes

Have had iPhone for 11 days. I was told by Apple Genius to update it and restore it on itunes which I did last night.
All of my Apps, free and paid for, are missing and all of my bookmarks saved to my Home Screen except two are also missing.
I do have MobileMe which I thought would keep all the above accessible for iPhone after the Restore session.

All of this should be on your computer.
    Just sync your iphone.

  • Can't update iPhone through iTunes

Odd development. I want to update my iPhone 3GS to 4.2 as I'm running 4.1. I go to iTunes, click on my phone icon, see that it says that there is a new update for iPhone and to click "update" to download. I click the button and after a few seconds I get the error message "You currently have the latest version of iTunes". I've unplugged and tried this several times, and I always get the same error. The update button I'm clicking is directly beside the message saying there is new software to download.
Any ideas? This has never happened before.

Hello Dave@Streets, this is a forum link for purchase info: macjack post.
It is best to look and search in other catagories such as Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5 or PowerMac.
Select the +more options+ above Logout after choosing the catagory you want to search. I have a PowerPC CPU also so I too can only go to Mac OS X 10.5. From what I have gathered so far: Max out your RAM, Back-up to an external firewire HD, and check requirements for iTunes 10 and Mac OS X 10.5 for your system.
    Good Luck,
    A

  • Can't update iPhone from iTunes

I am trying to update my iPhone to version 4.2, using iTunes 9.2.1
Everytime I press "update" for iPhone, a window comes up with: Your current version of iTunes is updated. There is no option to back up or update my iphone.
    Any ideas anyone ?

You don't have to give up on iPhone, just on buying Macintosh computers. I ran into the (awful) 10.4 ceiling/forced upgrade myself and solved it by using a really old computer I had running Windox XP. There are no limitations for that and you can get the latest iPhone updates. In this case, Apple totally screwed people that own Macs.
As for 'on-costs' there's a ton of free anti-virus and anti-spyware solutions, RestlessFool. Why don't you put down the Apple crack pipe for a second and try being actually helpful on a support forum, eh?
For those that don't have an old PC laying around, check out this link for how to download and manually install older iOS updates (you do not need to jailbreak to do this) - I did this for a friend to get them 4.1 update when running OS 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1 -

  • NOT SOLVED!!! Can't update iPhone through iTunes!!!!

I have the latest iTunes (10.1) running on a 3.06 Ghz iMac running 10.6.5 and when I hook up my 3GS phone (which shows it to have Version 3.1.3 (7E18)), iTunes will say I have the latest version of the iPhone software. What is going on? Any advice on what to do?
The phone is acting buggy. I can't access my mail server, it keeps saying that my username or password is incorrect, even though I have tested it on other machines, triple-checked what I have input, it keeps saying "Cannot Get Mail". Also it doesn't allow me to type very well, sometimes some of the buttons don't register.
    VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!
any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

It just occurred to me. Delete the version 3.1.3 file from Downloads and then do a Restore in iTunes. iTunes will then have to go to the server for a new update file and should get 4.2.1.

  • And need the new iTunes 11.1 to be able to use my iPhone on iTunes but I need the new mac software update OXS 10.6.8, but my mac doesn't need or have an update what should I do! I'm upset :'(

and need the new iTunes 11.1 to be able to use my iPhone on iTunes but I need the new mac software update OXS 10.6.8, but my mac doesn't need or have an update what should I do! I'm upset :'(

    The requirements for iTunes:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
Your Mac must be able to run OSX 10.6.8. If you can run that OSX then you can run iTunes 11.1.
    Which Mac do you have?
