Update IPhone4 to iOS5: iTunes freezes.

I decided finally to update my iphone 4 to iOS 5. And surprise, iTunes hangs up during the process while displaying message "Downloading Safari safe browsing data". If I force quit, the phone seems more or less ok, but it still hangs during the sync.
Restoring phone to factory settings does not help - nothing changes, iTunes freezes.

Same here: looks like it was going to work, but it didn't. All apps appear 'waiting' to download, but nothing appears. If I then sync again. all these apps disappear and I'm left only with the out-of-the-box apps. I've restored and tried again 3 times with the same results. BUT! Finally got it to work....some of these steps might not be needed, but this is what I did:
I had originally had my stuff synced to iTunes on my XP machine and was trying the update and sync from there.
I went to my Windows 7 PC, started up iTunes, and removed all apps. I then went to the windows folders and deleted all the apps and all the backups form the windows 7 machine. I also made sure that itunes was configured to not start the sync automatically so that I could control when the sync happened.
I copied all the apps from my windows XP PC to the windows 7 machine and got them into iTunes. I copied the backup folder from the XP machine to the windows 7 machine (The backup was from the ipad from version 4.33 before I started the update, and I made sure to rename the folder so future backups did not overwrite it.)
I plugged the ipad into the windows 7 machine and started iTunes. I used the update feature and it downloaded a fresh copy of iOS5, and installed it.
After the iOS 5 update, I told it to set up the ipad using the 4.33 backup that I copied from the XP computer. Everything appeared as normal. I went through the ipad config steps waited for a few hours for all the apps to download again. My settings and customizations were all intact.
Then I told iTunes to sync apps. All my apps and my menu layouts appeared in iTunes. And it's been working great ever since.
So I'm not sure if it was a problem with my XP machine, but I'm happy this problem is resolved. So if you have an intact backup, maybe try copying your backup to another machine and re-doing the upgrade from there?

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. This should not affect any content on the iPad, it is similar to rebooting your computer.

iTunes works until it searches for new podcasts and then it stops working and shows the spinning beachball of death.
I am running 11.0.2 and it started immediately after installing it.
I have reinstalled itunes numerous times.

Well if the content is split over two different folders it can't also be in the same one. There must be some kind of semantic difference between the two, e.g. different non-printing characters...

Updating iphone4 with ios5: having problems

I was trying to update my wife's iphone4 to ios5;
the phone now says configure, with options of:
set it up as a new phone
restore from itunes backup
I selected the backup option but it just hangs saying connect to itunes and does not proceed any further (even though it is connected to itunes).
It keeps syncing and then does nothing
Could someone help please?

If updating your iPhone4 to ios5 deletes all your voicemails older than 30 days, shouldn't Apple at least warn you that this will happen so you can retrieve any pertinent info before the messages are deleted????

After updating to ios5 on my iphone4 I cannot open apps, for instance, facebook, twitter, pandora, etc., when I touch them to open they blink once and the screen returns to normal. Safari and the like operate. ???

So i guess what's not working is the notification center. I swiped it and saw it but it's not showing the phone call or email that just came in. just the weather update! On my friend's phone who had upgraded she had a little bar across the top that was always there with current notifications. Mine doesn't do that. Any suggestions?

All My Contacts have gone after updating iphone4 to ios5

So i decided to move with the times and finally update my iphone as some apps would no longer work without updating to ios5.
Everything is in my phone apps, music, calenders, notes emails but the contacts have all gone. I have tried to restore my iphone through itunes but this hasnt worked i only had one restore option available which was a sync that was completed after my contacts were gone from the update.
I now realise how stupid this was to never have uploaded my contacts to so sort of app but to be honest i never gave it a second thought. Is there anywhere i can get my contacts from or are ther lost forever????

I've lost mine, too. However, I've found that they're all there if I go in via the phone. The contacts app just shows "no contacts". When searching from other apps (such as Reminders), it doesn't find anything, but spotlight finds them.

Updated iPad2 to iOS5 - iTunes 10.5 crashes trying to sync photos

When tryung to sync my iPad, iTunes crashes upon getting about 1/3 of the way through the step of Analyzing the iPhoto Library. I am trying to sync 1 (one) Album from my iPhoto library. My versions are as follows - iPhoto 9.2, Mac OS X 10.6.8, iTunes 10.5, my 64GBi Pad2 is running iOS 5 and has over 12 GB free space. My iMac has over 150 GB free space. I have repeatedly trashed the iPod Photo Cache in the iPhoto Library, to no avail. This has only been a problem since the latest updates came out on 12 October 2011. I would really like to have my latest travel photos with me when I go visiting next week. And no I'd rather not turn on Photo Stream, thank you. I am tempted to just let it keep attempting and crashing as sending the crash reports to Apple. Any other help is welcome.

More info on this issue. I have close to 9,000 photos in my iPhoto library. The iPad will sync photos from a designated folder outside of iPhoto. This leads me to beleive my iPhoto library structure is corrupt (although I can view all the photos in iPhoto without crashing) or some metadata to the library is bad. Either way when iTunes tries to analyze the iphoto library somewhere between 20% and 40% of the way through the process, it goes BOOM! I am trying to look for help on rebuilding the iphoto library and see it that helps, but haven't found anything so far.

The only way to update iphone4, is through itunes. Is that correct?

ITunes freeze's when trying to sync my iPod nano (1st gen).

I can't update my iPod, because iTunes freeze's when i try so. I can't restore my iPod, because no button names that is appearing. I can't update it either, so donøt know what to do. I just downloaded the newest version of iTunes, and it didn't help.
I've been thinking about, reinstalling iTunes, but what will happen with all the music then? I've used tons of hours on getting it on my computer, so don't want it to get lost. What will happen with the music if i reinstall?

The music files should stay right where they are, in the music folder.
Reinstalling iTunes will change stuff in the c:Program Files folder.
That being said, it's always a good idea to have backups in case something goes wrong. You do have backups, right?
Also - before every itunes upgrade, you chould also back up the library ITL file which holds all your playcounts, ratings, etc.
I back mine up on a USB stick, or you could just put it in another folder on your hard drive.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)
