Update iPhoto on another Mac over a network???

I've got an iMac in my office and a Mini in the lounge.
I have tried copying the "Master" photo's from within the iPhoto folder across the network but they do not show on the other Mac.
What is the easiest way for me to do this? It gets very tiresome having to import the pics on both machines, surely there is a way to just copy them over my wireless network?

To copy the photos simply export them from iPhoto on one machine and copy to the other and import them on the other
To merge them over you must use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - there is no moving or merging capability within iPhoto

  • Is it possible for a G4 to use optical drive of another mac over a network

Well, is it? For some reason the optical drive on my G4 won't read certain CD's that are read by other Macs I have, but I can't see those drives over my network?

You can connect to it with file sharing, but you won't be able to use it as an installation source. In other words, you won't be able to reboot the G4 and see that drive over the network to boot from it.
If your G4's optical drive is consistently problematic, you could replace it quite easily and cheaply (if it's a desktop), or you might look at external optical drives.

  • G4 freezes while connecting to another Mac over the network

This is a mirror-drive, Dual 1GHz PowerPC G4, 1.25 GB RAM. It was recently repurposed as a hand-me-down when we upgraded. We cleaned it up and reinstalled everything. It connects to the internet just fine. Other computers can find it on the network and connect to it just fine. When I try to connect from this G4 to any other Mac on the network, I can find the other computers and I get the login popup, but when I put in the password and click OK, I get the color-wheel that never goes away. I have to power it off and try again.
This computer has been a work-horse for several years and has been on our network with no problems. This has just popped up since we moved it to a different desk.
One side note, we did upgrade our network recently, but none of the other Macs (including 2 other G4's) are having this problem.
    thoughts? suggestions?
    thanks.

What version of the Mac OS is the MDD running?
This has just popped up since we moved it to a different desk.
If that involved unplugging the computer from the wall, then a dead or weak PRAM battery may have let the computer lose something that it needs for the task. How old is the battery and how much time has the G4 spent off wall power in the last few years? If your firm requires unplugging computers at night (some do now in an effort to be more "green"), then the battery is surely dead by now.

Purchase iLife 11 (includes iDVD) ON DISK.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • Sharing Aperture library with iPhoto on another Mac

I've got an iMac in my office with Aperture, latest version, where I keep my master photo collection. I've got a Mac Mini in my living room, hooked to a big screen TV, with only iPhoto. The iMac is cabled to a 1 GB Time Capsule, while the Mac Mini connects to my home network through the Time Capsule WiFi network. I'd like to be able to slideshow selected Albums through iPhoto on the Mac Mini that are stored within Aperture on the IMac. File sizes average 7 MB, one folder can have 500+ images.
Is this possible? If it is, would it be too slow over WiFi? Should I just buy a second disk for the Mac Mini and duplicate the library?

No. The Aperture database is not comprehendible to iPhoto.

  • Sharing ITunes/IPhoto with another MAC?

Have a Mac Pro on Snow Leopard and Mac Mini on Tiger. Also have a wireless Airport Extreme.
Am I able to have one ITunes/IPhoto library and share with the other Mac without using a Network Media Center? Thinking about the Iomega Home Media Network Drive. If able, assume would be best to put everything on the Mac Pro since I have so much space than the Mac Mini.

The Mac Mini isn't set up to share - it is running Tiger, how do I set it up to share with the Mac Pro? Is there something I need to do to the Pro to allow it to share with the mac mini?
I believe that the sharing declaration is done entirely in iTunes and iPhoto. It's easy to try. Launch iTunes, open its preferences window, select the "Sharing" pane, and select "Share my library on my local network". Then see if that Mac's music appears under the "Shared" heading in the iTunes sidebar on another Mac.

  • How do i update iPhoto with another apple id?

Hi, I am trying to update iphoto and imovie as I can't use them with the new operating system I just installed. Problem is, is that my ex-husband's Apple ID is associated with the account as he originally bought the computer for me and loaded the apps. I've created my own Apple ID and have had to buy other apps but this one has no choice to buy it over again as it only shows his Apple ID. Is there any way to get these apps over to my Apple ID? If not how do I repurchase them when only his apple Id shows up?
    Thanks.

If not how do I repurchase them when only his apple Id shows up?
You should be able to buy the apps, if you trash the versions that are bound to your ex-husband's AppleID.
Delete the apps from the Applications folder, but don't empty the Trash, so you can recover them, if need be. The sign ito the AppStore with your new AppleID. The apps should now be showing with a price tag instead of "Purchased". Do they?

  • Can I download iPhoto from another Mac?

    Hi guys,
I have an iMac running Mavericks, and also a MacBook Pro 2011. I accidentally deleted iPhoto on the iMac, and since iPhoto comes pre-installed, I have it on the MacBook Pro. Do you think it is a good idea for me to copy the .app file and place it in my Applications directory on the iMac?
I just don't want there to be any problems if I do this.
    Thanks

As long as you properly accepted the iLife apps into your Mac App Store account (you should see them with all the other apps in the Purchases list) when you first configured the new Mac, then there should be no issue copying the app to another Mac that you own or control.

  • Sharing an i book created in iphoto with another .mac user

I need to have another .mac user look at an i book that I have created in i photo. Does this person have to have a .mac website for this to work? If not, how would he view this?

Thanks so much for your answer, I saved it as a PDF and stored in
on iDisc in the public folder as you suggested. Now he can access that
by going to his iDisc, and 'Other User's Public Folder. Thanks for your
help. Are you with Apple, or just an individual?
    Laurie:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you want your
friend to be able to work with the book in iPhoto or
    just look at it?
If it's just look at it then do a Print to PDF and
send them the pdf file. If it's too large to email
then you an post it to your Public folder on your
    iDisk for them to download.
If you want them to work on it in iPhoto then there's
no easy way to accomplish that. One method would be
    the following:
1 - duplicate you iPhoto Library folder and name it
    Book Library.
2 - open the Book library (launch iPhoto with the
Option key depressed and, when asked, opt to locate
the Book library and open it.
3 - delete all of the photos except those in the
book, all albums, slideshows and any non book items.
4 - now you can either burn the Book library folder
to a CD and get it to your friend or make an archive
of it (Control-click on the Book library folder and
select Create archive in the contextual menu) and
upload that to your iDisk Public folder where your
    friend can download it.
You friend can then unzip the library folder and open
    it as noted above.

    TIP:
    For insurance against the
iPhoto database corruption that many users have
experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the
Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If
problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any
photos or thinks there are no photos in the library,
replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the
backup will often get the library back. By keeping
it current I mean backup after each import and/or any
serious editing or work on books, slideshows,
calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem
pops up and you do need to replace the database file,
you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long
to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application
(requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that
will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your
iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder,
replacing any previous version of it. You can
    download it at Toad's
Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf
    file.

  • Time Machine backup to another Mac on the network

Hi, my wife is getting a new iMac. I was wondering if I partitioned the new drive in the iMac, one for the iMac OS X installation & the other for backing up my MacBook Pro over the network. Would this work?
    So it would be:
iMac backed up to exteral firewire drive
MacBook Pro backed up to second partition on iMac over local network
My network uses a 8 port gig switch & an Airport Extreme router.
Any ideas or help would be great, thanks.

  • Wake another mac over airport

is it possible to wake a sleeping mac over airport to enable file sharing etc, possibly with 'remote desktop' which ive just started using, [without much success so far to be honest]. i've heard it isnt possible, only with a wired ethernet connection. It would be so useful and convenient if it was possible to both wake and sleep my other mac via my laptop over airport.
in the systems prefs, under energy saver theres an option to 'wake when the modem detects a ring'.what does this mean, and could this be used as a workaround to wake the other mac remotely? how do i call the macs modem anyway?

Sorry but that is not possible.

  • Time Machine backup to a HD on another Mac on my network?

    _The short story_:
I want my MacBook Pro Time Machine backup drive to be one connected to my G5. The MacBook and G5 are connected via my wired network. I have file sharing turned on and can access it, with read and write permissions, but Time Machine can't find it. How do I browse for it and select it?
    _The Long story_:
I was out of town for 8 months, during which time I bought a MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.2). I also purchased an OWC 1.5TB HD which I connected directly to the MacBook via Firewire 800 and used it for Time Machine backups. Cake.
Now I am home, where my trusty old G5 resides. The G5 is at OS 10.5.8. The MacBook and G5 are both on my wired network.
I connected the new OWC 1.5TB drive to the G5 via Firewire 800. I can see this drive from my MacBook via file sharing, can read and write to it, etc, but when I go to "Select Backup Disk" in Time Machine on the MacBook, no drives show up. If I right-click on the Time Machine icon and select "Browse Other Time Machine Disks", there is nothing there either.
Essentially, I just need to find that same drive which is now connected to another networked Mac.
The only user account I have on each machine is just a single Admin account. Does it have something to do with creating a new account on the G5?
Since the drive in question is connected to the G5, it seems like the G5 is the gateway (for lack of a better term) for my MacBook to get to that drive. I just don't know how to make that happen, since when browsing in Time Machine for backup drives, you can't select a networked computer and then drill down to a specific drive.

I was hoping to find a way to automatically mount the OWC drive on the desktop of my MacBook, so on the MacBook I selected "Go" in Finder and chose "Connect to Server". I selected my G5 and was then able to drill down to the OWC drive. That brought up a Finder window that allowed me to access everything on the G5. I guess that is just basic file sharing via my network.
I had a feeling that would allow Time Machine on the MacBook to use that drive, and it did. However, when I selected "Back Up Now", it appears to create a new backup, not just the usual incremental backup that you get after the first time you use Time Machine.
I am closer, but clearly don't have the full solution. I was hoping Time Machine would see that drive as the same one it had been using (since it is), but obviously it wants to start a backup from scratch, so to speak.
    Ideas?

  • I got update iphoto on my Mac version 10.6.8 but after I downloaded iphoto11 I lost all my pictures what can I do to get my photos back to my empty library

    Hello Community
I'm Beverly from Jackson and I need help to restore my photos back to my Library.  Right now my library appears as if I just purchased my MAC and I have old version 10.6.8.
    Thanks to anyone to respond.

Where did you download iPhtoo '11 from? What exactly did you do?
If you have OS X 10.6.8 as you report twice there is no download to upgrade to iPhoto '11 - the only what to upgrade to iPHoto '11 with your stated system is by purchasing an iLife '11 DVD

  • Addressing another mac over LAN

    Hi,
I have scripts I want to run in crontab - they run fine. but I don't know how!
I am rsync'ing files from one mac to another. Both macs have the same naming on their two disks.
    i.e. both have /Volumes/Work
I have to use /Volumes/Work-1 to access the other mac.
I don't understand what protocol is used for this LAN sharing. I am confused as i have three macs and all have a /Volumes/Work drive... so how does it know which one to access?
It's easy with SMB, as you actually address the IP of the remote machine... or rsync using [email protected] - but this method of just using two paths is hard to understand.
So, if I don't first open finder, and browse to the remote mac, to setup the relationship, how could I address the /Volumes/Work path on the remote mac (given that the local mac also has the same path)
    Steve
    Steve

    figured out myself
    mkdir /Volumes/Work-1
    mount_afp afp://user:[email protected]/Work/ /Volumes/Work-1
