Update iTunes to 10.2.2: Quicktime problem.

When I try to update iTunes to 10.2.2 it won't install - I get an error message telling me that the installation of Quicktime failed, and iTunes requires Quicktime.
I have just separately downloaded and installed the latest version of Quicktime, that worked without problem, but iTunes still won't update with the same error message. Any ideas why Quicktime will install on its own but not as aprt of the iTunes package?

I was having the same issue on my 64-bit laptop, and using the download-only version from the apple software updater didn't solve the problem, but going into Quicktime, and looking for updates there did solve the problem. I would recommend giving that a try.

  • After Update ITUNES Won't Open, Apparent Quicktime Problem, PLEASE HELP

I Have recently updated my Itunes, after installation of the updates I was unable to access itunes due to a problem with Quicktime. After trying to repair quicktime, with no luck, I have uninstalled (following Apple’s support system). There were two programs labelled “Apple Application Support”, one allowed me to delete and the other older one didn’t delete and came up with the prompts below, so I just installed itunes/quicktime again. The same response happened when trying to open itunes. So I followed Apple’s support system and deleted all I could again. What was left is below, any help would be extremely useful.
In “Uninstall or Change a Program” of windows 7, I was unable to delete Version 1.1.0 which is 32.3 MB installed on the 03/03/2010 of the Apple Application Support.
*When deleting it comes up with a box that says:*
+The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.+
+Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package ‘appleApplicationSupport.msi’ in the below box.+
    C:UsersSeanAppDataLocalTempIXP722.TMP
I could only follow the path to the “Temp” part …\IXP722.TMP does not exist in that folder.
_Any Help with this problem would be Greatly appreciated._

This kind of problem often responds to using the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility. Here is a method:
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista and Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Itunes 7 fails to install - QuickTime problem.

I successfully used an earlier Itunes with an Ipod 1GB Nano. My new 2GB Nano (courtesy of Netgear promotion!) demanded V7 which I downloaded and tried to install. There were many errors installing Quicktime, but one was
    "Could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINES\software\classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuicktimePlayerApp\CLSID"
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
I accessed myself (8-)# I tried running regedit, but that key and all the other "QuickTime" "software/classes/" keys gave the same error. I tried right clicking to set permissions, but although the list comes up, I cannot enable any of them.
I even tried safe mode, but all those entries are give similar errors. I have now deleted all references to "QuickTime" in the registry except the inaccessible ones, and the "Program Files" directory, but installation gives the same errors.
The result is that Itunes will not install, and I am unable to use my new Ipod.
A Google search finds no-one with similar problems.
    Any ideas?

I am answering this blind as I did not realise I would not have access to the previous posting! Thanks for responding.
There is no version number of the installer under properties, but it says "V7" when run, and was downloaded earlier today (38,808,256 bytes) from the Apple site (as linked to by my then presumably working Itunes).
I see exactly my problem is in http://forums.vnunet.com/thread.jspa?threadID=93546&tstart=0
    and unresolved.
I rolled back Windows to yesterday (and then the day before), and now find I cannot even uninstall either Quicktime or Itunes. The "Add or Remove programs" utility starts its progress bar and then quits with no report. I tried a re-install of the only previous installation of Itunes and it reported "You have a later version of Itunes installed" (meaning presumably V7) The Itunes I have on disk will not run "Files missing". This I suppose must be due to the failed installation of V7, which System Restore has failed to undo.
I tried then the V7 install again, and got:
"QuickTime failed to install Error #-2903"
    and later
    "Error 1905 c:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTOControl.dll
    Hresult -2147220472"
... and then followed by three or four registry errors in HKEYLOCALMACHINES\SOFTWARE\Classes\ including the one I started this thread with. All these registry items are inaccesible under regedit ("Error opening key").
I am now in a position that I cannot go back or forward and still cannot link my IPOD to Itunes.
Is Itunes the only program that can transfer music?
It seems that one cannot simply copy, as firstly there is no "music" folder, and when it is done in a kosher way, the filenames are changed to an internal format, with the real names in a database.
It looks like Apple are managing to stop loads of other people using their new IPODs. I would ask for my money back if it wasn't a gift from Netgear (8-)#

  • ITunes not installing because of Quicktime problem

I just got a 30 GB iPod for Christmas and installed everything on my old computer at home (5 years old but has Windows XP) and everything worked fine. I am now trying to download and install iTunes on my less than 6 month old laptop and am having no luck. With the iTunes setup it gets to Quicktime and then says something is wrong and it can't go any further. I have tried to download Quicktime separately and I get a "2803" error, then a "2350" error. Please help!

    Have you tried this:
    remove itunes
    remove quicktime
    remove iPod for windows
    remove apple software updater
delete iTunes folder from C:\Program Files
delete quicktime folder form C:\program files
delete ipod folder from C:\Program files
delete apple software updater folder form C:\program files
delete quicktime and quicktimeVR from C:\windows\system 32
    delete documents and settings\<user name>\application data\apple computer\
    delete documents and settings\all users\application data\ apple computer\
run a search for "quicktime" deleted all files bearing that name.
ran installer clean up (you can get that from (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301)
    delete c:\documents and settings\<user name>\local settings\temp
    clear temp internet folder
clear C:\windows\temp (Note: Don't delete the folder itself just everything in it)
    restart computer
    run QuicktimeInstaller.exe from desktop
    verify that quicktime is opening
    quicktime opens?
    If so:
    install iTunesSetup.exe from desktop
    Verify that iTunes opens?
If you get a corrupt .cab file then the above should fix it. If it still won't open I'd suggest doing an MSCONFIG and then repeating the steps. MSCONFIG can be found here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538

  • Error in updating itunes which leads to chain of problems!!!!

a little while back my itunes had some error that wouldnt let it update. i didnt mind now until i got a ipod video and itunes needs to be updated for it to work. heres the error messsage it comes up with when i am updating.

    Can anyone help me plz?
    thx

When I either try to update iTunes or uninstall, I get a dialog box that says:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
Apparently, it is looking for iTunes.msi.
It's rather incredible that there are no resources available to fix this.
Let's go Apple. Let's not me like Microsoft. Cripes. Apple is worse. At least with Microsoft there are thousands of forums with every answer right away. Getting any help from Apple is like trying to get an act of Congress.

  • ITunes "Send Error Report" Message/Quicktime Problem

This is a problem that has only occured after I updated my iTunes to 7.0.2. Some songs in my library, and all of my videos that I have bought through the Music store cause the "Send Error Report" message to come up and iTunes closes down immediately.
I read another thread that a similar problem was occuring to a customer, and one of the admins requested him to un-install Quicktime and delete 2 files out of the registry. Then re-install quicktime through the "Repair" section of the iTunes installer. I followed these steps and the problem seemed to be fixed, but then they were "re-corrupted" I guess after I restarted my computer.
Do you have any idea what would be wrong? I know it is not spyware/viruses because I have several programs to check/delete them.
    Thanks for your help

    Bump for the 3rd time.
Quicktime will not even open, on a sidenote. It starts to load, then I hear some sort of beep..then it closes. I have tried re-installing multiple times and the problem continues.

  • Itunes 10.5.2 and Quicktime problems

I allowed my Mac to update my Itunes to 10.5.2, now I get the error "Itunes requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later. For more information on upgrading your computer visit http://www.apple.com/quicktime"
I went to the web site and cannot find a version 7.5.5 to download. It says quicktime is included in OS 10 (running OS 10.5.8) Version of Quicktime on the system currently is Quicktime Pro 7. Software update cannot find any updates, says my software is current. HELP!

    hmmmmmmmm.
you're actually getting an odd mix of symptoms here for an "error-message-free" itunes launch suppression.
the "flash" of the license screen is associated with Qoologic adware. but if you had that, your quicktime shouldn't be launching.
with the Norton Internet Security 2005 launch suppression problems, folks can sometimes get their QT to launch, but that isn't typically associated with the "flash".
so i'm going to doublecheck a few things before proceeding.
    (1) are you getting an error message or no error messages whatsoever? if you're getting an error message, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.
    (2) have a look in your TEMP directory. typically to do that you'll need to adjust your view settings on the PC. for instructions, see the "Empty your Temp directory and restart" section in this document:
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
... do you see a seven character filename with a .tmp extension in there? the first three characters will be letters. the last four will be numbers or the letters A through F.
(we're checking here for a W32.Pinfi infection, which can produce error-message-free itunes launch failures with an erratic mix of symptoms.)

  • Problem Updating iTunes 7 on external hardrive

My iTunes App is on my external hardrive, containing all of my music, videos, pictures, and other files. I just recently updated my iTunes to the latest version. The app automatically tries to open it from my main hardrive. So, when it opens it shows I have no files whatsoever in iTunes because it's trying to open it from my main hardrive and everything is stored on the external hardrive, including the older version of iTunes. I've tried just deleting it from the main hardrive and reading it form the external, but it still opens from there. The space the file takes up is about 62 GB. but the free space on my main hardrive is about 54 GB. so, it's not like I can just swap things around. Is there anyway I can redirect the program to always open from my external hardrive? or any other solution to fix this problem? might I add that the last time I updated iTunes, I didn't have this problem.

keep your iTunes folder on your external drive.
When you re-open itunes next time, press option until a window pops up,
asking you to select your library.
[this is a way to keep and manage multiple libraries]
    select the itunes folder.
this should load your library correctly.
if you did not yet - don't upgrade to itunes 7.2.

Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:

Quit the QuickTime Player if you have it open. Restart the PC and try watching the videos in iTunes again. Do they play now?

Before trying the update again, use Microsoft's Fix it solution at http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall. Use it to uninstall iTunes and Quicktime. It bypasses this not uncommon problem. When the solution finishes, the selected program will be uninstalled. It can take several minutes and I have seen as much as half an hour.
After iTunes & Quicktime are uninstalled, try the update again.

With the updates came iTunes 11.1.1 and Quicktime 7.6.6. I am still using Garageband 2008 and iPhoto 2008. When I create music in Garageband I usually adjust the volume and save it. Even now when I share the Garageband created files with iTunes 11.1.1, the volime I previously set in Garageband is retained. However, when I use the music to create a slide show in iPhoto 2008 and export to Quicktime 7.6.6, the volume level I previously set is lost and seems to default to a low level. The problem seems to be either in the slide show export from iPhoto 2008 to Quicktime 7.6.6 or in Quicktime itself. Is there a work around, so that I can retain the volume level I had previously set in Garageband, a volume level that seems to transfer without problem to the new iTunes. But then iPhoto 2008 (slide show) possibly or Quicktime 7.6.6 do not cooperate. Before I did the upgrade to Snow Leopard, the new iTunes and Quicktime I had no problems with the set volume being retained in the old Quicktime. The reason I need control over the volume is that all these music files are uploaded to YouTube.

I tried doing a restore to a time before that update and that didn't seem to help. It just gave me different parameters.
I'm using Windows Vista and this is driving me nuts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have the same problems as you guys after installing Corel Painshop Pro X12. I went into the task list and stop the CorelIOMonitor process and then the problem went away. I found out that you can disable this from starting up using System Configuration tool via Start -> Run -> msconfig
. It's an interm solution untell they fix it. Maybe someone needs to notify Corel or Apple to fix this problem.

Any Ideas of how to solve this one?

After reading all these posts, one by one did not resolve my problem until I got the very end.  Regardless of what step would resolve your problem, these are the steps I would recomment to everyone for a what seems to be a safe and fool-proof upgrade to iTunes 10.5.
    1. Stand alone upgrade to the latest Quicktime version
    2. Go to control panel and "change" then select repair to the following applications in the order specified by the post on Oct 27. (Notice I skipped Quicktime because it had been upgrade manually, and Bonjour did not have a "repair" option)
iTunes; Apple Software Update: Mobile Device Support; Apple Applications Support
Some of these applications may not appear if they do not apply to your configuration (no iPhone, or no iPad, or other apple devices).
Once all updated, I did not need to restart nor launch any applications, I simply went straight into the 10.5 upgrade, and where it normally got stuck, this time the installation continued for a while longer until it completed successfully.
Great work everyone who contributed!  Thank you very much!
