Update iweb to folder

I am having a website with a lot of photo's. It's all working fine. But when I update my iweb with new photo's and I want to publish it in a folder I always give it a new name. iweb takes a time to be published in a folder. Is it not possible to update only the new page or the pages I made changes in?

if you have a .Mac account and you publish to it instead of a folder using the one button Publish in iWeb, it only updates the pages you have modified. Unfortunately, many of us have domains and need to publish to a folder before FTP'ing the files to the domain.
As Tom mentioned publishing to a folder publishes everything. Another way is to break up your site into multiple domain.sites files. This way you only need to publish the portion of your site that you modified. For example, you can have each album in it's own domain.sites file and have hyperlinks to each album on an index page in the site.

  • Can't update iWeb 1.0 to 1.1.1- Strange Error Message

I'm updating iWeb 1.0 to 1.1.1 in order to remove the conflict PC visitors are having to my website: www.ifsongs.com. Those PC visitors get ActiveX control panel warnings everytime they try to listen to an mp3 on my Audio Sample page.
So...I downloaded iWeb 1.1.1. and went through the steps to install. But I got this error warning:
"You can not install the iWeb update on this volume. An elibible iWeb application was not found in the location /Applications/iWeb apps."
The problem is.... on that hard drive volume I DO have the iWeb application 1.0 sitting right there in a iWeb folder within my Applications folder.
So what gives? Why can't I update 1.0 (which I bought in the Apple Store and which I've used for over a year).
I repaired the disk permissions before I tried to install.
    Thanks Panther

    Steve:
It has to be in the Applications folder and not in a subfolder within that folder. Take it out of the iWeb folder and just put in the Applications folder. It will update then. Then you can continue the update to 1.1.2.

  • Items from the iWeb resources folder...

    Hi all,
I have been looking at freeing up some HD space and have noticed that in the iWeb resources folder there are some language folders, for example Spanish.Iproj, which take up a fair bit of space.
As I will only ever be writing stuff in english, would it be safe to delete these folders which are taking up 40MB each on my HD?
    Many thanks for any help

iWeb (and any other OSX app) have these languages. No need to remove them by opening the package contents folder, however.
Do a "Get Info" on any app and you can enable/disable or completely remove the language. Leaving just English will remove over 400MB's from the iWeb app.
I use DeLocalizer to remove these extra languages from all of my apps. Many GB's now freed up on my HD.
New installs and software updates will add these languages project folders back into many apps.

  • Can't find text files in iWeb domain folder uploaded to iDisk

I've just uploaded my iWeb domain folder to iDisk and unzipped it - I can see all the "extras" listed ( jpegs and movies and music), but none of the actual text pages. The unzipped Domain file divides into _MACOSX (which leads to "Content" and then - nothing), while Domain.sites2 leads to the extras. Can anyone suggest where I might find the actual text???

You would be better served to keep a backup copy of your Domain.sites2 file that's located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on a flash drive. Keep it backed up each time you use iWeb with backup software that can make incremental backups, i.e. backup only those new or changed files.
I use Synk Pro which can be setup to make the update changes to as they are made or at intervals like Time Machine. All in the background. There are other backup apps that can do incremental backups. Go to MacUpdate.com and search for "backup" to get possible candidates.

  • Apple, please keep and update iWeb!

Please go to the iWeb feedback site and send Apple an email to keep and update iWeb!
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html
    Great, thanks!

I really doubt if that will do much good but certainly give it a try. However:
It's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.
This may be of some interest to you: Life After MobileMe.  And as a replacement for iWeb give Flux 3 a try.  You can use it in demo mode for 30 days.  If you do decide to try it view the video tutorials at their site and the 3rd party videos at YouTube.  I found them to be very helpful.

  • Error: ipod cannot be updated - the required folder cannot be found

Just purchased a 30 gb ipod, and when connected to my itunes (currently version 7.1.08), gives me the error message that says, "so and so's ipod cannot be updated - the required folder cannot be found." after a bit of updating. The ipod then drops out of itunes, but not windows, for some time, only to return later and do the same thing over again. Any ideas?

i got the same problem as you, but it appeared only after i tried to sync the ipod using another user account in windows.
I have tried restoring the ipod, clearing out the itunes library and reloading it etc, all to no effect.
usually it would just hang there until i reset it, and after resetting, it would work for awhile, before it would hang again.
this is getting frustrating for me as I cant even listen to music on the go like I used to.
    anyone has a better solution?
    I've tried re-installing itunes too

  • Software Update's Library Folder

Quick question, where is the Software Update's library folder located?
I have several applications that still show up in Software Update that I no longer need, such as printer driver updates despite removing the drivers from my computer some time ago, as well as other previously uninstalled software. I'm aware that I can opt to hide certain updates from appearing in Software Update, but I'd rather delete the files from my system altogether. Cheers.

The only printer drivers you should see in the SU listing are those for printers listed in the Print & Fax prefPane. Delete any not connected and you should never see updates for those again. BTW, which applications are showing up that you deleted? Dumping Apple ones is an exercise in futility and save little if any HD space. just leave them where the installer puts them.

  • Updated iWeb site from 06 to 08 - but counter reset to 0

    Hi,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Updated iWeb site from iWeb 06 to iWeb 08.
Counter for website reset to 0.
Any way to retrieve old site's counter setting?
    Thank you,
    - Ross

    Hi xharris,
    1) Have a look at the following page about transferring the website from one computer to the other
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebTransferSite.html
(also read Note 1 of that page!)
    2) Be sure to update iWeb '08 to the latest version (2.0.3). Then double-click the domain file you transferred and iWeb will launch and prompt you to update the domain file to version 2.
The problems some people experience are that some objects might move and not be in the right place anymore or things like that. Just have a look at it once you opened it in iweb '08 before publishing it to the web.
Also make a Backup of the Domain file before- after- you updated and from time to time

  • When Will Apple Update iWeb?

Im wondering and asking when will Apple find the time to update Iweb?
They have the potential to have the best software for those that want to make lovely sites.
It would need to be of the Iphoto standard or even slightly more advanced with better updated templates.
Now that we have updated OS and now our retina devices we need that standrd to create.
    Please Apple fill our needs!

    why did they dicontinue?
I haven't seen an official notice of discontinuation. But even if iWeb has been discontinued (as its absence suggests), we're all just users like yourself here so would only be able to speculate on the reasons — and, according to Support Community etiquette, we are to "avoid speculation".

  • Updating iWeb

Hi, I m just wondering if you think that Apple will update iWeb with "add-ons" with paypal button, templates, and others capabilities in the near future. iWeb is great but I think it's too restrictive in some ways and I'm surprised thatn Apple locked it!
    Comments are appreciated!

You can already do paypal buttons. It's just a matter of putting the right code in the link. I posted step-by-step instructions here for both sale and donation buttons:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1976180#1976180
You can copy paypal's graphics but it's much nicer to create your own button with a shape. You'll find an example on the top right of my page here:
    http://web.mac.com/jkevinwolfe/iWeb/PixTricks/Blog/Blog.html
There are a lot of things we'd all like to be able to do with iWeb. It would be nice if we could just add a plugin for things like paypal, skype, etc. But both of these can be done now with little work. If you search, you'll find my step-by-step on including a skype button that involves putting an extra file on your server of .mac, but no html hacking.

  • Will apple update iweb anytime soon or ever?

i know apple hasn't updated iWeb for a verylong time. I haven't seen any rumors on if apple will ever update it. Does anyone know if iWeb is over???

iWeb was only ever created in the first place to go with MobileMe to support web publishing, so when they decided to get rid of MobileMe and replace it with iCloud, there was no need to keep iWeb any longer, which is why they withdrew support for it and stopped selling iLife.
Perhaps it is time to start finding out a litte about html.  All you do is click on the html snippet and drag and drop it onto your iWeb page and then copy and paste code there and click on Apply.  If you want to make good websites these days, then you need to know some html.
If you have iWeb, you can continue to use it for as long as it works with the Mac OS's.

  • My website changes are not updated in my folder

I make changes to my website in IWeb, and when I save it to my folder, it is not updating.  Nothing happens.  I cannot figure out how to get it to properly save the new changes so I can update the actual website.
    Please help.
    Thanks

When you publish to a local folder, are you testing the site by double clicking the index.html file to launch it in the browser?
Make sure you empty the browser cache, hit the refresh button or add a ? to the end of the URL to get the latest version.

  • How can I import and edit my iWeb (2006 version) with newly updated iWeb 2011?

    Hi:
I was using the iWeb from iLife 2006, until I just updated to iLife 2011. I tried copying and pasting my site into "sites", but when I opened iWeb for the first time; it appeared I coud not open that file. I looks like I may have to rebuild it from scratch, which would be enormously time consuming and difficult. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Well no, iWeb will not be able to open that file because it is your published site and iWeb has no import facility, so is unable to open any html files/published files.
iWeb always has and still does store all your website information in a file called domain.sites which can be found under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  Remember to look in your User/Library and not your System Library, as iWeb is not there.
Find this domain.sites file and ensure that it is in the same place - put the file in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and then just double click on your domain.sites file and iWeb 09 should open it.
Find this file and you won't have to re-build yoru site from scratch.  Remember that it is this file that you need to back up, as iWeb has no import facility.

  • Lost updated iWeb work

    Hi!
I don't know what to do and really need some help! I've been updating my website on iweb for the last month now but when I logged on today I could only find the work that I already have published, and not the data that I was still working on! I had added pages and deleted things..
I don't know if it's because I updated to Lion or iLife11 that my work has gone missing..
But anyway I tried googling the solution today, which told me to find a file called Domain.sites2. I've searched for it in spotlight, still can't find it.
I went to Macintosh HD/Users/Your username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/.. or well I tried.. but I can't find iweb in it! Everything else is there.. iwork etc..
What's happening? Is my work gone?
Grateful some help and insight to my problem!

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
NOTE: If you repair disk permissions with Disk Utility on your boot drive you will have to rerun the script with Terminal to make the Library folder visible again.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
Or you can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.

  • IPhoto Album updating iWeb Album page

OK .. I'm lost! I created an iWeb Album page and a new matching iPhoto album to put the photos in. Now I've added new photos to the iPhoto album and they don't show up in iWeb. There is a lot of work on the iWeb page with a lot of descriptions etc and I don't want to have to delete the page and drag in the new updated album. What am I missing? How to I sync any newly added pictures in the iPhoto album with the iWeb album?
    Thanks...

The iWeb pages don't automatically update like iPhoto Web Galleries do. You will have to add the new photos to the iWeb photo page and republish that page.
If you were using a iPhoto Web Gallery in an iWeb page then all you would have to do is click on the publish button in iPhoto and the gallery would be updated when accessed via iWeb.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
