  • After 10.7.4 update macbook pro won't sleep

after 10.7.4 update, macbook pro won't sleep.

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter ▹ Wake for network access: uncheck. You may need to unlock the preference pane by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your administrator password.
    Step 2
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Schedule… ▹ Start up or wake: uncheck
    Step 3
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Print & Scan ▹ Open Print Queue...
Check all printers for unfinished jobs. Deal with any you find.
    Step 4
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse or trackball, and monitor, if applicable.
    Step 5
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Enter “powerd” (without the quotes) in the "Filter" text field. Select the powerd process and click the Quit Process button in the toobar (stop-sign icon.) In the sheet that opens, click Force Quit. You’ll be prompted for your administrator password. The process will be relaunched immediately.
    Step 6
Boot in safe mode and log in. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the Mac OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 7
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 8
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.

  • The update "MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0" can't be applied

When trying to update my new Macbook Pro with Retina through Apple's software update application, I get the error:
The update "MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0" can't be applied
The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading.
I've already went through the process twice to download this update.

Same type of error, but getting 90% downloaded and error message that the update cannot be saved. But it then goes to the screen to apply, but with 90% only - no instructions that it will only download 90% and the rest will come during the update - not going to apply.

I can no longer charge my iPhone5 through either of my macbook pros. I get the error message that a USB device is using too much power. Can anyone help?

I reconnected the original powered hub that I thought probably caused the problem and this time it shut down the whole computer. When I rebooted everything now works perfectly. The system reset. I tried another powered hub and it didn't have the same effect so the old one is heading for the bin and with fingers crossed all systems are now working perfectly. Trying to reset PRAM or reset the SMC didn't work but causing the same power issue did. Thanks for your input though. It did get me to think what was the original cause.
    Cheers

  • How to update MacBook Pro system10.6.8 to 10.7.5

I Need to update MacBook Pro 1.1 Intel Core Duo, Memory 2 GB, speed 2 GHZ 667  MHZ Boot Ram Version.  I would like to use Turbo Tax but it apparently does not support 10.6.8.  And the printer also supports only from10.7.5 x-10.8x,10.9. I have copied all my Microsoft doc from Version 2004.  I appreciate any help you can give me.

Sorry, but your model cannot run Lion or later. A Mac Pro 1,1 can run Lion. Maybe that's what you have confused with your MacBook Pro. Your's is an obsolete model with a Core Duo processor. Running any version of OS X requires a Core 2 Duo processor. See these following requirements.
    Upgrading to Lion
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
          1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

hi there, i installed the firmware update (MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.3) which went well as usual, but now my machine is noticeably hotter when just sitting idling, which it does most of the day. I have SMC fan control installed but never needed it before this update. Is there any explanation for this? The update was supposed to change the way the fans operate, but I cant find any more info then that. Cheers!

Does the October 2013 model not meet your needs? What advances would you expect or see in a 2014 model?

After logic board replacement and software update, MacBook Pro is spontaneously shutting down and preventing restart. Inconsistent ability to restart after multiple tries. What is going on?

Hard drive sensor or logic board failure.

  • Why is my MacBook Pro coming up with an error message when trying to update Software?

I brought my MacBook Pro today and I have been trying to carry out the software updates, there are 9 in total. It takes about half an hour to download them all, then it tells me to restart. Once I have restarted, it then says it is installing the updates. After a minute it comes up with an error message. It then tells me that one or more of the files downloaded are corrupt!! Why is this happening as I have not done anything else with the laptop since I brought it??

Just re-download the updates via Software Update or you can download standalone updaters from support.apple.com/downloads/.
If you are on a slow connection it's probable that caused the corrupt files problem.

  • Receive error message, The iPod cannot be synced.  The required disk cannot be found.  iPod nano 6th Gen, all latest updates, Macbook Pro, with OS 10.6.7

Receive error message, "The iPod cannot be synced.  The required disk cannot be found.  This is a iPod nano 6th Gen, all updates on iTunes and iPod, Macbook Pro OS 10.6.7.  This is getting frustrating.  I have changed USB ports, cables, reset, restored and was able to sync one time in parts, not all songs at once.  I have seen a lot of this same issue, will Apple please find a solution, nothing works, I think I wasted my money with this iPod.  I have the iPod touch, iPod shuffle, 4th gen iPod nano, iPhone and iPad.  This is the only device that has this issue.

I was actually able to investigate and solve the problem myself. After readng many posts, I found that someone else's tips worked for me:

Try running a disk check out the iPod using the tools provided by windows.
    To do this:
    1. Plug in your iPod and close iTunes.
    2. Go to "My Computer". Click on the iPod drive once. Go to File, and then click Properties.
    3. Go to the Tools tab. Under "Error Checking", click Check Now.
    4. Check both boxes. One says "Automatically fix file system errors" and the other says "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". Place a check mark next to each of these options and hit Start.
The scan may take several minutes or more to complete, but once it has, go ahead and restart iTunes, and try re-syncing files to your iPod.

  • After today's security update, my macbook pro is failing to boot: error 19

Update 2012-002 on macbook pro. When rebooting, after 'successful' install, I now see a repeating cycle of Error = 19, unable to mount root. From my *nix perspective I fear the worst - that the boot sector (at a minimum) is hosed. I tried  (running Lion 10.7.x) booting with the command key down - no joy. do not currently have my install disk (sadly, it's in storage, somewhere).
I'm concerned about this. this is VERY unusual for an update. This is a relatively new drive (750GB drive installed about 8 months ago). At no point have I seen errors, and believe me, I look.
Assuming the worst case is repartitioning? (ah for hte days of 'fdisk /mbr')

yes. Apologies for being unclear. command--R does nothing but report the same error (note, I have verbose boot enabled).I was an apple tech long ago, I tried myriad key options, just for grins.
Shift key while powering up will bring the expected 'grey' background, with the dark grey apple. After a period of searching, the apple is replaced by the 'no sign'.
an addendum: I believe I know where the issue is, and while I cannot nail it, it's quite likely it is because of a failed filevault2 startup. I went through the process of enabling filevault2, got the key, restarted and when I went to look at the progress of the encryption - it had not 'taken'. I was at the option to enable it again. I didn't think much of that at the time (though I know from working in the past with full drive encryption) that the reboot was invovling a rewrite of the boot sector. However it DID reboot, and more than once. I was able to use the system for a couple of weeks, until today's update. I personally don't feel it had to do with the security update - more it had to do with the failed filevault2 enabling.

  • Macbook pro gives 'no airport driver' error after applying latest update

So I applied the latest security update this morning, rebooted and now my macbook refuses to finish booting into gui mode. It says 'no airport driver' and tries to do something 10 times (takes awhile) but then doensn't finish booting and drops me into a console where it says 'compname/I have no name!#' and the whoami command hangs!
Luckily I have boot camp with windows on this mac and I'm posting from the windows side right now. Everything works fine from the windows side (wifi, etc).
So anyone else have this problem? Or have any ideas how to fix it? I'll reboot in a bit and write down the exact error messages hoping it will help.
I really would not like to reinstall mac os if I don't have to, tho this seems to be the only way to fix this.

BTW some more info on this machine, its a macbook pro model A1150, 2.0ghz 15" core duo w/ 2gb ram, 120 gb hd, etc.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I'm seeing similar problems loading the airport driver on my macbook pro though it doesn't stop me from starting up OS X. Originally I only discovered the problem because my machine would intermittently boot up without the airport status icon in the menu bar. Checking the network settings I saw that airport was off and there was no option to turn it on. Digging further I found that there wasn't even an airport card listed in the hardware inventory in the system profiler. Checking out the system.log in the Console app I found the following sequence of errors:
    Feb 25 21:45:05 localhost kernel[0]: ath_attach: devid 0x24
    Feb 25 21:45:05 localhost kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: 5
Feb 25 21:45:05 localhost kernel[0]: ar5416GetEeprom: Failed crc in geteeprom
Feb 25 21:45:05 localhost kernel[0]: unable to attach hardware; HAL status 7
    Feb 25 21:45:05 localhost kernel[0]: start [/SourceCache/AirPortDriverAtheros5424/AirPortDriverAtheros5424-221.46/m35b/src /driver/AtherosController.cpp:464] loaded unsuccessfully
A few lines later I also see the "No Airport Driver Found" message.
I'm not sure exactly when this problem started happening because I usually just leave my macbook pro connected to my network via an ethernet cable. I don't use the airport often but it's pretty annoying when I need it and I can't get it to start reliably.
