Update Manager issues

I have been using solaris for going on 10 years now. In the past I would download the latest patch cluster from Sunsolve, burn it to a cd, and install the cluster from single user mode. When 10 came out, I was excited to see and experiment with the update manager. I am not too excited now. I am rather dissapointed. The update manager freezes half the time and now smpatch generates errors and will not work at all. Update manager also stopped working totally until I backed out one of the "patching" patches.
So, I went back to the CD method and found the return codes have changed until the appropriate switch was added to the install_cluster script. Does anyone use this update manager? Seems like a pain to me.

I too have the same problems with Update Manager, on both Sparc and x86 machines. When I update anything, I've gone to the effort to watch cpu, disk, and network activity in the performace monitor. When all three have flat-lined, then I know to abort the updating.
When Update Manager fails, I erase all contents of the /var/sadm/spool folder to start from scratch. Then, rather than reverting to cluster patching, I use smpatch.
smpatch analyze > patchlist
smpatch download -x idlist=patchlist
I look at a resulting patchlist*.txt file to see in what order the patches need to be applied.
One should then be able to apply all of the patches in the single user mode by:
smpatch order -x idlist=patchlist > orderlist
smpatch add -x idlist=orderlist
However, I don't trust all of them to add without failure, so add each one individually, taxing my patience:
smpatch add -i 123456-01 (the number of the patch's jar file)
After I have installed all pending patches and reboot, I feel confident to try Update Manager again. At least I can use it to tell me if patches exist. Note that after rebooting, you'll need to run Update Manager manually from Launch > Applications > Utilities > Update Manager in the Java Desktop.
Good luck. I hope for both of our sakes that something better comes along in our lifetime.

  • I fixed my Extension Manager Issues.

A customer of mine came in today with his Apple Hackintosh system, running OS X Lion 10.7.1 with all updates done, and the Java Library already installed.
The issue they were having was to do with Adobe Extension Manager just crashing about 10 seconds after opening, it would not load anything just sit with a grey screen for a few moments and then just crash.
I ran an application called fseventer on his system and watched as the application opened to determine at what point it was crashing, each time I noted that the crash was something to do with the extensions being loaded by Adobe InDesign.
I opened InDesign and all seemed to be working correctly.
At this point I un-installed the entire Adobe CS 5.5 Master Collection and ran the Adobe cleanup utility, the re-installed the entire thing on International English, with all the applications.
Opened Photoshop and ran the Adobe Update Manager, to download and install every update.
Opened AcrobatX and ran the updater, to download and install all it's updates.
I repaired permissions on the entire drive through disk utility, rebooted onto Disk Warrior, repaired the directories, rebooted into single user mode ran the fsck -fy / command, and booted into the main account, not the root account.
Then I tried to open Adobe Extension Manager, same thing just a crash. Then I tried Adobe InDesign and that was still working just fine.
I opened my main hard disk, and went to this path "/Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/Configuration/" in there I opened the file XManConfig.xml like this
In terminal type this to first backup the original file then open it and edit it.
    BACKUP THE FILE
    sudo cp -R /Applications/Adobe\ InDesign\ CS5.5/Configuration/XManConfig.xml /Applications/Adobe\ InDesign\ CS5.5/Configuration/XManConfig.xml.bak
    EDIT THE FILE
    sudo nano /Applications/Adobe\ InDesign\ CS5.5/Configuration/XManConfig.xml
The first line of this file should look like this
    <Data key="UserExtensionFolder">$UserDataFolder/Adobe/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/Configuration/Extensions</Data>
all I did was comment that line out so it now looks like this
    <!--<Data key="UserExtensionFolder">$UserDataFolder/Adobe/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/Configuration/Extensions</Data>-->
then I wrote the file with CTRL O, hit enter to save over the file with the same name, then CTRL X to exit the nano editor, then type exit in termal and quit.
Open AdobeExtension Manager and it is working.
The commented out line is pointing to a directory here
    /Users/YOUR USER NAME/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Adobe\ InDesign\ CS5.5/Configuration/Extensions/
I have no idea what this directory does, but with it commented out I can launch Extension Manager, and I can still open InDesign without any errors, if I rather delete the contents of this folder and leave the line of the xml file untouched, these extensions just repopulate themselves as Extensions Manager begins to open, but maybe 1 loads then a crach, then 4 the next time then a crach etc.
So I would stick with just commenting out the line on the XML file.
I would love it if you guys could give me your feedback on this to see if anyone else finds this method to work or not.
I have done installations on other Lion systems for customers on real mack not hackintoshes and have fount them all to work without an issue, in fact i did an installation on another hackintosh too and that worked well, only this one so far, I think it has something to do with the fact that this hackintosh had to have a modified kernel and a DSDT file to rectify an issue of having to use a chameleon command of cpus=1 busratio=25 -v as this would only allow one thread of the cpu to function, this command is no longer required as the kernel and DSDT are rectifying the issue and still allowing all 8 threads of the cpu to function as normal.
The reason I think this could be the cause is because I am sure Adobe does not account for every permientation of non vanilla Apple installations, these so called chocolate kernels are a bit different to the Apple one.
Anyway I hope this helps out someone. I am off on holiday now but I will keep an eye on my emails in case anyone needs some assistance with any of these commands. I am going on an adventure holiday to the Victoria Falls to do a microlight flight over the falls. The reason I tell you this is so you do not wonder if I never return.

have you tried other solutions in this forum? Such as use sudo command, rename XManConfig.xml, delete ~/Library/Preferences/macromedia, grant write permission to some folder...?
It's possible to install extensions without Extension Manager. The method depends on the type of extensions.
    1. If your extension is a zxp file, then you can unzip the file and copy those files within it to their destination manually. The extension would work in corresponding products. You can unzip it with Winzip, 7-zip, Winrar or similar softwares (actually it is a zip file).
1.1 If a file with postfix ".mxi" exists within zxp file, you can paste this mxi file here, I will tell you where each file should be copied to. (mxi file is a xml file).
1.2 Otherwise you can find a file named "manifest.xml" under CSXS sub-directory. Please open it with a text editor, you will find ExtensionBundleId="someText" in second line. Write down the value of ExtensionBundleId. Close this file. Create a new folder under "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5ServiceManager/extensions" and rename it to what you write down. (For example, if you find ExtensionBundleId="KulerSample" in manifest.xml, then name the new folder as KulerSample.) Copy all files and directories which you unzipped from zxp file to this folder.
    2. If your extension is a mxp file, it can not be unzipped directly. Please upload it to this forum as attachment, I will convert it to a zxp file then return it to you.

  • New to solaris---is update manager working correctly?

well as my subject says I am new to solaris having put it on an pc bout a week ago. as I am using the "free" verson (not open solaris) I knew I would not be entitled to certain goodies but seem to have run into an issue getting the updates I (presumably) am entitled to. simply put I open up the solaris application "update manager" which is on my desktop saying "updates available". now upon initially launching the app I specified that I was using the free version (well it let me register without a code so I assume sun knows my status), and then selected the option to put a check mark next to all available updates. well after waiting like a full day with it showing that is was still in the process up updating I eventually aborted the process. I then tried installing a couple of the updates and though it took a while it worked. so I selected 3 of 4 more and again the update manager showed that I was updating but nothing was happening (to my knowledge). after several hours I aborted the app again. so what am I doing wrong. first off I am assuming that what sun presents to me is what is actually available to me using the free unregistered version of solaris. why then would updates fail? btw I know some linux (not an expert) and I figured that behind the scenes update manager was checking for dependencies and installing what I needed from sun repos. but of course I could be way off bass here. so what gives? thanks much in advance.

first off I am assuming that what sun presents to me is what is actually available to me using the free unregistered version of solaris.No. Update Manager will show you everything but will only allow you to install basically security and a small subset of other patches.
When you ran through the Solaris registration GUI you had a chance to enter a support contract #. If you chose not to enter one or if you want to use it without registering then you only get access to a few of the patches.

  • FSCM via WS-RM (without PI ) - Update termination issue

    Hello experts .
We are trying to integrate SD with FSCM ( credit management) using WS-RM (without PI).
Details of the issue and steps followed so far.
    Ideal Scenario :
Once we create / change a sales order ( in SD ) , the interface Creditworthinessquery_out (WS Consumer ) gets triggered (in SD) and the subsequent response CREDITWORTHINESSQUERY_IN(Provider) is triggered from FSCM (with the details of creditworthiness).Once the query response in received an notification is triggered from SD to FSCM (asynchronous service).
After receiving the query response the functionality of credit check happens while creating / changing the sales order .
    Configuration steps followed in SOAMANAGER
We have created end points for all the relevant service interfaces (Providers) , and also created logical ports for the respective consumers.
During the creation of logical ports - for the consumers we used the WSDL (of the providers) as the inbound message action.
(This has been done to all the services query , notification that are relevant in our integration).
    Current behavior / issue .
While creating sales order the sales order is not getting saved (getting updated in the database).System allows us to complete the sales order creation process and also we get a message as sales order saved successfully. But then there is a update terminated express document that pops up. Sales order is not getting updated in the database.
When I see the logs/traces in SOAMANAGER I see that the query out is successful , query in has the right response (in warning state though) . But no notification is being triggered ?? 
How to overcome this update termination issue ?
When we see the SM13 log , it points to SLD issue (LCR 010: Internal error in SLD API). why do we need a SLD without PI

    Hi  ,
Finally we are able to solve the update termination issue . But again we are using a work around .
    Situation :
Once we executed the VA01 transaction we were getting update termination issue . After lots of debuggung we found that system was trying to get the Business system details ( Own business system data ) . The table lcrt_clntcache had no values.
    Solution
We inserted appropriate values in the Table LCRT_CLNTCACH (business system data ) and now it works .This is a work around we got as of now.Credit checks are happening successfully and also integration is good .
(typically if we define business system in SLD (PI) , and run SLD_CHECK , this table gets populated , but in our case we are not using PI instead we are using WS-RM)
But now few questions arise .
    a) Why do we need a business system in case we are not using PI ( typically we define business system and technical system in PI )  and instead using WS-RM ?
    b) Is it a good practice to update the table ( as did in workaround above )?
    c) Is this any bug and needs to be consulted with SAP ?
Please let me know your views .

  • Problem in upgrade of update manager 5.5.0 u2d

    Hi,
I can't upgrade Update Manager from 5.5.0 u1 to 5.5.0 u2d (maybe it's the same that 5.5.0 u2). The installer start to install after asking the login and failed. I found in the release note of Update Manger u2 that install it on a host that have a SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 may be a problem. I also have a Backup Exec Server on this host that use a SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2. My VMware database is on SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1.
Here what i found on the release note:
Update Manager installer stops responding if you already have Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 SP2 database on your system
If on the system where you are installing the Update Manager server or the UMDS there is an existing instance of Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 SP2 database, when you attempt to install the Update Manager server or the UMDS if you select the option to install the bundled database (Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express), the installer stops responding.
Workaround: To workaround this issue, perform the following steps:
On the machine you are installing the Update Manager server or the UMDS, open a command line interface and type the following command:
    .\redist\SQLEXPR\SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe /ACTION=install /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /SQLSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" /HIDECONSOLE /FEATURES=SQL /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="BUILTIN\ADMINISTRATORS" /NPENABLED="1" /TCPENABLED="1" /INSTANCENAME=VIM_SQLEXP
Atempt to install the Update Manager server or the UMDS again.
I think the workaround work for new install but do you know what i have to do for an upgrade ?

The version of Update Manger in vSphere 5.5.0 U2d is the same that in vSphere 5.5.0 U2. The version number is 5.5.0.22432

  • Solaris 10 x86 Update Manager & smpatch errors

I've recently installed Solaris 10 on two x86 machines and, even after installing patch 121119-15, I'm having Update Manager and smpatch issues. It appears to be due to certificate troubles.
I've followed several sets of instructions (including cacaoadm stop/start and registration) and nothing has seemed to work.
    I have successfully connected to:
    # telnet sun.com 80
    # telnet cns-services.sun.com 443
    # telnet getupdates1.sun.com 443
    # telnet a248.e.akamai.net 443
    I have also tried:
    # cacaoadm stop
    # cacaoadm status
    # /usr/lib/cc-ccr/bin/eraseCCRRepository
    # rm /var/scn/persistence/SCN*
    # cacaoadm start
    Reregistering didn't change anything.
Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

  • Sun Update Manager problem in Solaris 10/08

Since installing Solaris 10 x86 10/08 on my AMD Sempron system, Sun Update Manager doesn't work. It starts and gives me a "Warning" window with no text and a yellow triangle icon with an exclamation point. That's it. This worked fine on this box in the last Solaris release.
    Any ideas?

Hi , I'm getting the similar issue. I've around 20 machines in my lab which are SunBlade 1500 and running solaris 10. While running the update manager I'm getting the pop up window with empty string and only exclamation mark. I tried to check the java version also which is 1.5 and also update the files
    /usr/sbin/pprosvc
    JAVACMD="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5+"
    To:
    JAVACMD="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5*"
And in /usr/bin/updatemanager, if you use it (around line 37):
    Change:
    JAVA_EXEC="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5+"
    To:
    JAVA_EXEC="/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java -version:1.5*"
    But still no effect .
After running suc.sh , I get the following message in one of my machine.

  • Adobe photoshop cs5 12.0.3.... update manager is now asking for old update 12.0.2

hello... i have photoshop cs5 fully updated with the
latest version 12.0.3 and until yesterday everything was fine.....
now something stange is happening because de adobe update manager is asking me to update to version 12.0.2.... off course at the end of instalation of this update it gives me an error because i have the most recent update installed.....
but, when I run manualy the check if there is updates pending it still appears the version 12.0.2 in order to install!!!!
this just could be a bug in the adobe servers or what?????

    Hi,
Updater logs can be found at following locations
    Win Vista and higher: <os-drive>:\Users\AppData\Local\Adobe\AAMUpdater\1.0\
    Win XP: <os-drive>:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\AAMUpdater\1.0\
Please zip the 1.0 folder and send it to [email protected] for investigations.
Meanwhile, after sending in the logs you may try to delete the 1.0 folder, it should fix the issue. Do update the thread if the issue indeed gets fixed !
    Thanks,

  • Unable to update features using the NWDS Update Manager

I'm updating the NWDS and selecting the features to install from https://nwds.sap.com/swdc/downloads/updates/netweaver/nwds/ce/710
It hung midway while downloading:: plugins/com.sap.engine.clientapis_2.0.0.101103141034.jar (9928K of 10560K bytes)
I had to force kill the NWDS and when I restarted it and tried to update the features again, it doesn't try to download the clientapis jar that failed to download before. I don't find this jar in the eclipse\plugins folder either, so why does it skip this jar?
By the way, the features to install automatically listed were as below:
      - SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio CE 7.1 SP11 PAT000
       - SAP Netweaver Developer Studio Java EE 8.0.110000.101103141042
       - SAP Netweaver Developer Studio Development Infrastructure Client 8.0.110000.101103141042
       - SAP Netweaver Developer Studio Web Dynpro User Interfaces 8.0.110000.101103141042
       - SAP Netweaver Developer Studio Composition Tools 8.0.110000.101103141042
Now it gets repeatedly hung while downloading the jar file
plugins/com.sap.devmanual.doc.user_1.1....818085804.jar everytime I kill and restart and try to update.
The way I update is from the Help menu->Install/Update->Search for new features to install.
In the "Product Configuration" I see the below
    - SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio
      - E:\Program Files\SAP\IDE\CE\eclipse
        - SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio Platform 8.0.110000.101103141042
           -Eclipse Platform 3.3.0.v20070612-_19UEkLEzwdF0jSqQ-G
               - Eclipse RCP 3.3.0.v20070607-8y8eE8NEbsN3X_fjWS8HPNG
           - SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio Composition Environment 7.1.7.1.0.101103141042
Can someone please help understand what is happening and how to get the update manager working, before I get fired from my job for showing no productivity since 2 days? If it is a matter of the mirror being down, can you tell how I can choose a different mirror for a site in the Eclipse Update Manager?

Is there any issue with connection to the network(internet) fromt he NWDS?
Usually, NWDS is unable to connect to network due to incorrect Network Connection parameters.
As a workaround, try to locate an existign installation of the NWDS with all the plugins. Ontain those files and save it in your NWDS folder.

  • Update Managed Metadata field in SharePoint 2013 Designer Workflow for O365

    Hi Guys,
I need to update the managed metadata field in SharePoint Custom List using Workflow but its not working. I have also tried to use the HTTP WebService POST Operation but no luck.
Am doing this for a SharePoint Online (O365) Site.
Has anyone worked on something similar and was able to get it running ?
I saw a post to create a custom Workflow Activity but I don't have a choice to go with the custom code option.
    http://patrickboom.wordpress.com/2013/07/23/workflow-activity-set-managed-metadata-column/
I was able to achieve this by creating a SP 2010 based Workflow for O365. Which means that it worked well with SP 2010.
Is there a different way to do it in 2013 ? I tried almost all options apart from creating custom Activity but nothing worked out.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Nutan
    Nutan Sharma

    Hi Nutan,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to update Managed Metadata field with SharePoint 2013 Designer for SharePoint Online.
As far as I know, there is not an OOB action to achieve your requirement with SharePoint 2013 Designer for SharePoint 2013. Customizing a workflow action is a better option to achieve it.  Why didn’t you customize a workflow action as Patrick’s blog?
In addition, please take a look at the article about Nintex workflow, check whether it is useful for you:
    http://habaneroconsulting.com/insights/setting-managed-metadata-fields-in-a-nintex-workflow#.UykBSf6KDHo
As this issue is about SharePoint Online, I suggest you create a new thread on SharePoint Online forum:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=onlineservicessharepoint . More experts will assist you.
    I hope this helps.

  • Solaris 10 x86: Update Manager quit working and shows empty warning message

    All,
A little while ago my Update Manager stopped working. When I check for updates, I am getting an empty warning message box that has literally no text but only a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the upper left corner and an ok button.
Once confirmed, nothing happens. Googled the issue but so far no luck.
    Any hints?
    Thanks

  • Sun Update manager Registration Wizard - "LOG FILE"

    hi dudes
we have a problem with the sun update manager registration wizard.
    "Exception in web service communication"
i think we have a problem with the proxy access.
is there a special log file, where we can found more information about
    the system registration process?
thanks a lot for your support
    regards

    Hello,
The "Exception in Web Service communication" error only occurs during the registration. There has been a bug raised for this - 6348265.
The only workaround that we have available is to bypass various parts of your network and security infrstructure from the client to the internet during the registration process, e.g.
LAN(client machine) - Proxy (Squid) - Firewall to DMZ - Webwasher (AntiVirus)
    - Firewall to Internet
Bypassing proxy, antivirus software or firewall.
As this issue only affect the registration process these can be re-enable after registration.

  • Sun Update Manager attempts to patch wrong arch of Sun Studio 12

    Hi,
I'm having patching problems as mentioned here: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5198127&tstart=0
However, I recently (last week) installed an x86_64 version of Sun Studio 12 on my sparc NFS server as documented here: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-0274/6nc1b7u4r?a=view
(Installing the Sun Studio 12 Software on a Solaris Server for Use by Clients With a Different Architecture)
The clients are Sun Solaris 10 11/06 x86_64.
After running "check for updates", Sun Update Manager today returned 9 patches for Sun Studio 12. All of these patches appear to be for sparc architecture:
    126995-01
    124861-02
    124867-01
    124863-01
    127000-01
    127143-01
    126503-01
    127001-01
    124872-01
My question is, why doesn't Sun Update Manager realize that I installed the x86_64 version of Sun Studio 12 (for NFS exporting) and give me the x86_64 version of these patches?
Or am I missing something? How does the procedure "Installing the Sun Studio 12 Software on a Solaris Server for Use by Clients With a Different Architecture" result in the package system on the NFS server being aware of the correct arch version of Sun Studio 12?
    This should explain more:
    (/opt/x86_64/SUNWspro is my NFS share)
    # pwd
    /opt/x86_64/SUNWspro
    # ls -l

I obviously have the i386 version of f95 sitting on my sparc server. The x86 clients are happy with it - works great, but I want to be able to patch it.
Can anyone tell me how to apply patches to my Sun Studio 12 installation in this case?
    Thanks,
    Phil

its probably best to get your other patching issue sorted out first before going any further with this. it may turn out that fixing the problem of smpatch analyze recommending already installed patches will also fix this problem

    Also tried User.account[Lighthouse].idmManager
    <set name='User.accounts[Lighthouse].idmManager'>
    <ref>managerId</ref>
    </set>
Am I using the right attribute or is there any bug assigned for idmManager???

    Hi,
I am using v8,1 and are using *accounts[Lighthouse].idmManager* with no issues observed.
If you populate the manager via the GUI and then checkout the user via netbeans you will be able to obtain the correct systax for idmManager
