Update to Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on Macbook Aluminium 2008 can't used Wifi (can't on wifi)
Barters,
Please start a new topic thread here. You have one of several dozen possible issues, as are outlined here*. Please make sure your new thread is very specific as to what router you are using in the topic, and what you've tried from the possible issues. Do not assume that 10.8.5 is the issue. It is some combination of factors. Each person's set of issues need to be isolated individually. If you let others join your thread saying "me too", you'll likely get lost in the shuffle. Generic subject lines frequently attract more "me toos". The more specific you can get, the better.

Just installing a few updates from the Mac App Store for mountain lion on my 2010 MacBook Pro, during this it made a noise and then the screen and keyboard went off, like it is off. What happened, is it off...or should I just wait it out?
What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

I brought a macbook air 11 inch mid 2013 since i have updated mountain lion it shuts down automatically I have done SMC reset still I have the same issue... any suggestions??/
the thing is that when i did the clean install they did check with a hardware test first and nothing was wrong, i guess it was a false-positive, is there anything in the kernel report from which i can say it's either hardware or software related

I updated to Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on my 2008 model MacBook and now I cannot turn on the wifi. I go to System Preferences, Network then click on wifi. I click Turn Wi-Fi On but it doesn't respond.
Whats the fix?Forget all the suggested solutions for correcting the WiFi connectivity problems with the 2008 MacBook Pro. None of them work. Just purchase a Bear Extender (bearextender.com), install its software, turn off your computer's WiFi (and don't turn it back on!), plug the Bear Extender into your USB, and you will have consistent WiFi connection. Bear Extender never drops!

Microsoft Office 2011 no longer opens because "there is a problem" after updating mountain lion when the app store said there was an update available this morning. Reinstalling did not work. What's the problem?
Has your problem been solved by the updates??
Have a similar problem. This MacBook opened all MS Office programs in Dec2012 but no longer does in Feb2013. Went to Microsoft/mac/downloads but none of the three updates would run citing a problem "version of software needed to run this update was not found on this volume".
MacBook: 7.1, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz
Microsoft Office 2011: version 14.2.3
Mountain Lion: 10.8.2 (12C60) -

i dont know how i update mountain lion. i have osx 10.7.5. i dont know how i get osx 10.8.3?
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
OS X Mountain Lion is a paid version, so you can't get it from Software Update.
First, make a backup of your data, just in case the upgrade fails. Then, check that your computer is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If it's compatible, open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion.
The OS X Mountain Lion installer will be downloaded. It takes 4 GB, so this may take hours. When it finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade to Mountain Lion -

When you purchase OS X Mountain Lion, you can install it for free in all your Macs as many times as you want. The same applies to all the content you purchase in the App Store, Mac App Store, iTunes Store and iBookstore -

Go back to :Lion maybe until Moutain Lion has had more time to get optimized and ironed out. -
While trying to instal Mountain Lion OS on my macbook pro, I got the error message that my HD was damaged and it reverted to my Lion OS. Why does this happen? I bought the OS online through the app store.
The Mountain Lion installer looks at your internal drive to make certain that it's error-free before continuing installation. You should have an application named "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" in your Applications folder now so you shouldn't have to download it again. Do this...
Boot to your Lion recovery partition by holding down both the Command and the R keys while booting. Open Disk Utility from the Recovery partition and select your hard drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it) and click on Verify Disk. If you come up with any errors, click on Repair Disk. At the end of the cycle you will get a message that the disk was successfully repaired or a message that the hard drive could not be repaired.
If you're able to repair the disk, just reboot as normal and open the "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" and the installation will proceed. If Disk Utility was unable to repair the disk, you need to get to your local Apple Store as soon as possible so that they can see if the disk is salvageable or beyond repair.
Good luck,

After updating Mountain Lion, I can't open iCal. It keeps reopening and sending report to Apple if I press restart.
What can I do?Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Open Finder and delete:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist
If it doesn't help, press Command and R keys in boot and reinstall OS X
