Update my 2010 macbook pro to mirror with apple tv

I have 2010 MacBook Pro, serial number W804759PATN.
Is there any updates I can install to have it mirror on Apple TV ?
Thanks

Sorry, no. Requires a MacBook Pro, 2011 or newer, running Mountain Lion.

how do i get my macbook pro to mirror on my apple tv?

So you're only seeing video via airplay?
How are you trying to access mirroring on the 4S? You need to double tap home button, swipe (left to right) to bring up airplay, tap on it and select Apple TV, only then will you see the mirroring option

  • Recently bought a MacBook Pro 13 inch with apple care and since day one has not been able to hold a charge more than an hour. Is this covered? What can and will apple do for me?

So I bought my MacBook Pro 13 inch with AppleCare protection about 2 weeks ago and from the moment it came out of the box I noticed that the battery was draining very quickly. Perhaps in the midst of my excitement of having a new computer I ignored it thinking it could somehow get better but obviously it has not. Average after being fully charged from being dead the batter lasts maybe an hour to an hour and a half. I'm assuming apple will take care of this seeing as it came to me like this but that's exactly my question, will they? Any information about what they cover or how to go about getting this fixed is very much appreciated!

You are covered under the 1-year warranty.
You have a 14 day grace period to exchange it for one that works.
Past that, get it looked at

  • SMC Update 1.1 Macbook Pro Retina 15" with Bootcamp Win 7 FPS in Games

I have the 15" Retina Macbook Pro, and I have definitely had issues with framerate in games played on bootcamp windows 7. The game I am testing fps is Rift. I noticed when plugged in, the fps drops significantly compared to when it is not plugged in (on battery.) Running on ultra video settings at 1920 x 1080, when plugged in I am getting between 7 to 15 fps after about 3 minutes of sustained use. When unplugged however I get a sustained 34+ fps.
I installed the two new updates ( OSx 10.8.3 and MBPr SMC Update 1.1 ) in the hopes they would resolve my issue. However I am seeing the same fps problems as before.
Additionally while running the game the fan spins like crazy at all times and the power cord gets quite warm. Upon quitting the game, the fan continues to spin wildly with no end.
Can anyone else reproduce these observations? I had an open ticket with Apple to fix this prior to the update on my machine. I was so excited when I saw the release notes to these two updates as it appeared they would directly address my problems. Unfortunately there has been no significant change. Needless to say, my work order shall remain open...

    Hi All,
I tried this and it improved my FPS in games yesterday, still not getting FPS I would desire, but its become playable.
    Repasted here from another thread:
My retina MacBook Pro has had terrible graphics performance problems for a couple of weeks. I searched all over various forums and tried everything: resetting SCM, manually selecting discrete/integrated graphics card, deleting graphics kexts, etc. Nothing helped until I found this: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19880198#19880198
Now my rMBP has silky smooth graphics again!
The directions in that post are a little hard to understand so I cleaned them up here:
Step 1: Delete system windowserver preferences
In the Finder, from the menu bar, select "Go -> Go to Folder..."
    Enter: /Library/Preferences/
    Delete the file called com.apple.windowserver.plist
Step 2: Delete user windowserver preferences
In the Finder, from the menu bar, select "Go -> Go to Folder..."
    Enter: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/
Delete all files that start with com.apple.windowserver   (On my rMBP, there was one file called com.apple.windowserver.12AFB147-95D6-5C70-8F62-C1E4F2BE81BE)
Step 3: Reset the PRAM    (These instructions are from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379)
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Hopefully this helps others with bad graphics performance on retina MacBook Pros.

  • Will my mid-2010 macbook pro function properly with the LCD?

So my warranty is going to run out soon, and i'm thinking about just hooking up my macbook pro to a 27 inch monitor and never detatching it.
I've seen guides on how to remove the entire display assembly and its no issue. I just want to know if the macbook pro will refuse to start up because the display is no longer connected.
    thanks.

I think it will work.  You would need a mini displayport to (single link) DVI adapter to hook up that monitor.
Not sure what kind of problems you had with the ViewSonic but I'm guessing the Dell is probably a better monitor anyhow.

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro 15" crashes with video artifacts then chimes SOS

This just started happening. I had Windows 7 installed and it began to blue screen on me, so I deleted the partition and opened bootcamp assistant to re-install Windows then the screen began flickering with artifacts and everything froze... It will no longer boot half the time and if it does it crashes shortly after. I also tried booting from the USB OSX installation and it crashed there too.
When it does boot to Yosemite, it displays a progress bar under the apple and takes a while.
Occasionally I can enter my password and get passed the lock screen, but usually it dies there.
    Is this a firmware issue?
I think the computer has been acting a little funny after Yosemite install.

You have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by this recall.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present. However, according to reports, some units may pass the test, and yet still be deemed eligible for repair under the program. Your experience may vary.
Print the first page of the panic report, if any, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued on February 24, 2011, so the recall has nominally ended. Some units may have been sold after that date by Apple as refurbished, or by resellers as new, and they might still be covered.
Residents of the EU may be entitled to warranty service for up to six years after purchase.
Some owners report that their unit was repaired under the program after the deadline had passed. Others report that the repair was covered by the extended warranty from a credit-card issuer. Again, your experience may vary.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired free of charge, and you don't want to pay for the service, you may (or may not) be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version.
If you're dissatisfied with Apple's response, please keep in mind that no one here represents the company or can help with customer-service issues.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro not pairing with Apple Keyboard and mouse!

Hi all, I have a brand new Macbook Pro and an older wireless Apple Keyboard and Mouse (that were being previously used with my imac G5).
Now I want to use these for this macbook. I am finding that they are being recognised but not pairing up?
Do you need to stop the previous pairing with the imac before they will pair with the Macbook?
Or do I need to update specific software? (I would have thought it has all the necessary updates already installed).
    I am running Snow leopard.
I have brand new batteries in the keyboard and mouse.
I really appreciate any helpful advice. Sorry if the answer is obvious!
    Thanks

Hi there, i had a problem pairing an Apple wireless keyboard with my MacBook pro but managed to solve it.
The default passkey option in Bluetooth setup assistant is 'automatic' which will (if the MacBook can 'see' the keyboard in the first instance) then say something like 'your device may prompt you to enter the following passcode 1234 5678'
Obviously the keyboard doesn't provide any feedback - I went ahead and typed the number and hit the return key a number of times - the MacBook then displayed a 'pairing failed - you may have entered the incorrect passkey' message.
What i was doing wrong was keying only numbers - when i keyed 1234[SPACE]5678 + RETURN pairing worked.
I had thought the 'gap' in the passcode was to make it easier to read, not that it implied a space in the passcode.
    Hope that helps.
    Simon

  • I have the late 2013 Macbook Pro 15 inch with apple care, and the display flickers in a certain spot at a certain brightness. Has anyone ever had this issue, and what did you do about it?

I doubt this is a GPU issue i've restarted my Mac, but the shape of the flickering area is in a cone shape comming from the bottom edge from the right side in about 2 inches. I'm thinking this is a failing display?

Apple will cover it if it was an accident or defect. Take it to a nearby Genius bar. I'm guessing its a graphics card or display issue. But the symptoms of a damaged GPU for me were different. I had issues with my last 13" MacBook Pro non-retina mid 2012. If I set it down or moved my machine, my screen would flicker and the pixels would be completely off and the whole system would freeze, even if I wasn't using it. If it fronze when I didn't use it, it would get REALLY hot. Like I said, if it's an accident and less than a year old, Apple will cover repairs. If it's older than a year and it was accidental, AppleCare won't cover it. If it was a defect, it will be covered as long as the AppleCare hasn't expired. If you buy a MacBook through BestBuy, you could buy BestBuy Care which covers accidental and defects. My friend fried his last machine with water and apple was going to charge him the price of a new machine and BestBuy charged about $900 and then he paid extra to upgrade to a new retina display.

  • Does MacBook Pro also work with Apple TV?

I see that it works with the iPhone, iPod, and iPad. Nothing is mentiioned about MacBook Pro. I have a lot of TV shows on my MacBook Pro that I would like to see on the Big screen. That is why I was thinking of AppleTV.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Yes the Apple TV works with your Mac, in fact it is the primary source of your content. You will use the iTunes library on your Mac (more than likely) more than you will purchase rentals or airplay content from your iOS device.

You have the mid-2010 problem. There's an issue with the graphics module on that machine. There was a program in place to replace the motherboard within 3 years of purchase, but you're probably outside of that. Some folks have supposedly gotten theirs changed outside of that period, so you can try.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
What you can do to use it is download gfxcardstatus from http:gfx.io and force the graphics to Intel. That will lessen the panics at the expense of graphics speed.
You may be eligible for a depot repair, which is a flat rate of about $310. Ask at the Genius Bar. Take along a printout of your panic.
This was just posted this week. You might want to check it out. I can't vouch for it, but it may be a way to solve the problem. Please post back if you try this and it works.

  • I have a mid 2010 macbook pro 15" and recently it started crashing so I took it to my local Apple store to have it looked into and they told me its a graphics card issue requiring the replacement of the logic board at a cost to me of $340.

I took my laptop to my local Apple store to have the problem diagnosed and they told me the problem lies in the grpahics card which will require the replacement of the entire logic board at a cost to me of $340.
after that I did some research on the topic and found that this was a massive problem on this model of macbook pro and Apple never issued a recall to fix the issue, are there any class action suits in this category currently underway? if so how can I join?

I also have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15". Also, I had paid $100 for Apple Developer account and I can't even use Xcode or Unity3D to work on my game because the moment I write a line of code, my computer crashes. Scratch that, I used to have an Apple Developer account (I let it expire a couple of weeks ago). It hasn't been of much use since my Macbook Pro crashes 15 times a day.\
A month after buying a mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15" directly from Apple, it began to crash. At first, I assumed it was my fault as I had been messing around with Bootcamp and doing other heavy stuff, but I quickly learned it would randomly decide to shutdown regardless of the task at hand. I was very busy at the time. I was a fledgling teacher in France, and I hardly had any time, or money, to put toward a 84 euro train ticket to Paris. Also, OS X updates were around the corner (Lion, Mountain Lion), so I held out, hoping the issue would be resolved with the updates.
During my investigation of the issue, I did find the TS4088 article. It recommended I install some updates, and then it described a problem that seemed similar to my own, but the order in which the problems occured, as described in the TS4088 article, did not follow the same pattern that my computer had been experiencing–there was no gray or black screen after the restart warning message when my mac crashed. The first time I found TS4088 on Apple's Support page (at a time when their product recalls were easier to locate before they redesigned their website), it was a couple of months after I had bought the computer. I reasoned that my Macbook Pro must not be suffering from the same issues as I had never seen the video freeze or go black before seeing a restart message. The restart warning message is the last thing I saw, no loss of video or black(or gray) screen afterwards. My computer would simply start to boot up again.
About two years after buying the computer, and suffering from about 3 GPU panics a day, I searched for the TS4088 article again, wondering if I had misread it, and that maybe the issues described in the article were the same issues I was experiencing. This time I could not find the TS4088 article on Apple's Website. I searched over and over again, but it was nowhere to be found. I assumed that issue had been resolved and the article removed. Now after three years of using a faulty, unreliable computer, I was feeling like a schmuck. I searched again on Apple's website to find the TS4088 article, or any new ones that outlined my very apparent GPU issues, but I had no luck. I circled Apple's website over and over and could not find that article. It was only through a link other frustrated mid-2010 Macbook Pro owners had posted on some other website that I found the link to TS4088, also learning that the forum's users were experiencing my same problems.
Based on the language Apple used to describe the problem, I did not reason that I was suffering the same issue. Here's what happens when my computer crashes:
         • The computer seems to shut down. The display turns off, the fans stop spinning
         • The message "Your computer was restarted because of a problem . . . Press any key to restart" is displayed.
         • I press any key, the computer restarts, I wait for next crash to interrupt my work
    Excerpt from TS4088
    "Symptoms
Apple has determined that a small number of MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) computers may intermittently freeze or stop displaying video on the built-in display or on an external display connected to the MacBook Pro. In this situation, you may also see a restart warning message before the video is lost or the display turns black or gray."
My computer never displays a restart message before the video is lost or display turns black. My Macbook Pro mid 2010 loses the picture on the display, and less than a second after that is the restart warning displayed. The video would never freeze or stop playing, rather the whole computer just dumped all of its processes and displayed a warning message asking me to press any key to restart.
My issues with this problem are the following:
•The problems described in TS4088 do not accurately reflect what users are experiencing. TS4088 is misleading in this respect.
•The article TS4088 was not easy to find on Apple's website. It seemed to have moved to an obscure, impossible-to-find location that could only be found thanks to the great number of other Mac users who are experiencing the same problem.
This issue hasn't been managed dutifully. I'm annoyed to have sunk money into a developer account. I'm annoyed that I sunk money into an expensive product that does not work. I'm annoyed that the description of the issue afflicting mid 2010 Macbook Pros was inaccurately and misleadingly described and that links to the TS4088 article disappeared from Apple's website when I could have truly benefitted from them. I am especially annoyed that my life in graphic design, web development, and iOS development has stagnated for several months as my computer crashes some 15 times a day. I am, however, pleased with the speed at which a Mac can boot up.

  • How to setup trim for 256GB SSD for Yosemite OS 10.10.1 on Mid 2010 MacBook Pro

What is the best way to setup effective TRIM for a newly installed SanDisk Ultra Plus 256 GB  (old version) drive on a mid 2010 MacBook Pro 6,2 with 8 GB RAM and running just installed Yosemite OSs 10.10.1?  The new operating system is not referenced by SanDisk.   Thank you.

Thank you and to others that responded,   I will take the advice to not enable trim at this time, but will visit the issue at a much later date.   Maybe Apple will find a way to securely allow us to TRIM 3rd party SSDs.   Iwill look at an annual manual TRIM in a year or so, if that is a good solution. Does this approach sound reasonable?   This is my first ever post to this problem solving group.  Thanks again also to ALL previous contributors.

Also - my battery has been telling me "service battery" for a LONG time and then it switched to "replace soon" som time ago. Can't really see what this has to do with anything but whatever.
That could conceivably explain all the problems you're describing. Replacing a Mac's battery should not be postponed since a failed battery will cause other problems to occur. It is also possible that its hard disk has failed, which means the information on it may soon become unrecoverable.
... my latest TM back up was from April 2014, can I just run this when I have rescued everthing and then it might not be as slow?
If that Time Machine backup remains intact, it may be the only viable means of recovering that Mac's information. I suggest you do not attempt to restore its contents to your ailing Mac.
Given that you are having trouble creating a newer Time Machine backup you should stop using that Mac immediately and have it serviced as soon as you are able. Do not take it to anyone other than Apple or a service facility authorized by Apple, for the very reasons you explained. If there are no Apple Stores in your vicinity search for an Authorized Apple Service Provider using the Contact Us link below. Use one of the options that appear under Contact Apple Support. The language on that page will be different for your location.

  • Trouble opening EndNote with 2010 MacBook Pro, updated to Maverick

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro and recently upgraded to Maverick.  Today, I attempted to open EndNote and was hit with the following error:  "Unable to load: /Applications/EndNote X3/EndNoteX3.app/Contents/Resources/ENCore.bundle"
I downloaded the PagesEndNoteplugin2 to see if that allowed me to open EndNote and it still gave me the same error message.
I do not use Pages, I use Word.
    I'm hoping someone can help!

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.
