Update "no permission"??

I just did a “software update,” of which there were five. But two of them could not be installed, and had exclamation points next to them, with a message saying that they could not be installed because I did not have proper permissions. I’ve done countless updates and never had that happen before. What does it mean, and what do I do?

I tried installing them individually and then it worked. So I guess I’ll hold off on doing anything else unless this becomes a persistent problem. Thanks for your advice.

IPhoto 6.0.4 new won't update pictures permission error

I am still using 10.3.9; just got iLife 6.0; installed fine. Did whatever updates allowed to me. Trying to open iPhoto; as usual, goes through the updating process to all photos. here's where it gets interesting.
I am the only user on this computer. I am the admin.
iPhoto says that there are permission issues and to go into the iPhoto pictures folder and allow read and write. I did that. nothing. So then I went back and went folder to folder ensuring all were okay. All fine.
Nothing.
I can't sit here and check all of the 1000s of pictures to see which one is somehow not correct on permissions. Is this a glitch? Am I missing something? its never done this on all of the previous upgrades. Little help from you old pros

Try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. That often works where just the Info window does not.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Why is Firefox updating without permission?

I had Firefox 13 installed and I have the update option set to "Check for updates, but let me choose". According to the Firefox documentation this is supposed to let ME choose WHEN and IF the update is installed.
I've been pestered with popups to install Firefox 14 for the last week or so but I always ignored them. Today I opened Firefox and what do I see? '''The damn thing installed version 14 without my permission!''' I'm 100% certain I never told it to install, and checking the update history I see version 14 listed as a "security update", so I imagine it was installed because of that. This is completely and utterly unacceptable.
Can anyone explain this? I now have to live with the useless CRAP introduced in 14 (honestly -- who wasted their time on these horrible new toolbar icons? Oh yeah, they're harder to see and serve no purpose -- fits in great with the new Firefox philosophy), not to mention the new BUGS.

chilled1 is shill for firefox dont listen to this idiot. i've been seeing different usernames repeating the same talking point to get you to "upgrade" when the new versions are really DOWNGRADES from the previous. the only thing that gets upgraded is firefox's wallet. firefox used to listen to the people before they got greedy like most, avoid it if you can, if not get the version before this continuous upgrade crap.

Bento Update right permission error

I am new Mac user, I tried to update the Bento software from 2.0.2 to 2.03 but when I tried to drug the update in the application folder it told me that a newer version it was still in the folder but I checked and there were the 2.0.2 and if I tried to drug anyway in the folder the 2.0.3 it told me that I don't have the right permission.
In the Bento forum they told me to put out the 2.0.2 from the application folder and drug the 2.0.3 in and in this way I could, but now I ask myself if there are permission problem?
they told me that if it doesn't function try to repair disk permission, I need to do that anyway or is not important? More over for the Bento application I need to re-enter the key serial number?

I have a brand new mac mini. All software is factory installed. Opened Bento2 and entered my key OK. Then had problem below about "you don't have "some" permissions". What the **** does that mean?

Update PT_ORACLELOGO_SWAN permission question

I want to update the image PT_ORACLELOGO_SWAN (header) in application designer but it prompts that PT_ORACLELOGO_SWAN (Image) is not an object that you are authorized to update. I can not modify the PSSTYLEDEF_SWAN as well. Do i miss some roles or permission ? Please suggest.

Hello Dennis,
You need first log on Application Designer, choose Go -> Definition Security
After a new window prompted, select File -> Open -> Group, Select PeopleTools by default (This is a default Group if there's no other Customized Group), Filter the Type of Image & Style Sheet, select the specific object name you would like to update, then click "->" button to move to right side list to give you update permission.

the url in the email should be in the following form

and in status.htm declare a page attribute called reqno with auto check box checked.
now when the user click the link it will call status.htm and in oninitialization you will have the request no. in reqno variable, which you can process and show the relevant info in thepage.

At launch Firefox updater keeps asking permission to update, how do I permanently stop that?

In the past when I've updated Firefox it has made my add-ons stop working, however I've never had any virus problem as I have other programs to handle that. So for me, updating Firefox is more of an inconvenience than a benefit (not to mention changes in layout that I'm used to and stuff like that). I do not want to update, and I've gone into the settings and turned the Update settings to never. Yet, every time I open Firefox I get a popup first from Windows telling me that Firefox updater wants permission to update Firefox. It's annoying, to the point that I'm going to switch over to Chrome if there's no way to solve this, but I'd prefer not to as I've always liked Firefox.
How do I tell Firefox Updater once and for all that I do not want to update and do not want to be asked about it ever again?

Just for the record, the two security updates released in the past few days were due to vulnerabilities exposed at "Pwn2Own", an annual hacking event.
I actually don't understand why you are getting those prompts from Windows. It sounds as though the update was already downloaded and staged before you started Firefox up again. I vaguely recall reading some threads a year or two back about clearing out a downloaded update but the details elude me.
Unrelated: Your More System Details shows you have a an optional user.js settings file. If you did not create this file yourself, it may contain settings added by other software that override your previous session preferences at startup. You may want to investigate. Group Membership under Settings/My Account is not updating

We use an External table for User permissions/Groups to get updated in Group Membership.
We use our custom tool to create/update new/existing users with the permissions. Then our ETL picks up the changes from the OLTP tables and update User Permission table in our DWH hourly. Now let me explain the present situation. User ABC is an existing user and never used our Report Portal before, we updated ABC user with all the necessary groups to use Report portal and with curiosity she didn't wait until Hourly ETL run and she didn't had the necessary permissions to run any reports in Report portal. But when she login after 1hr/10 hr/ 1 day/2 day, the user won't see the Permissions getting updated in Group Membership. If we check the User permission table in DWH, it is updated with all the new roles, but it is never being updated in 'My Account' Answers. I think this is some kind of Presentation Cache issue, but I did clicked "Reload Files and Metadata" under Settings and "Close All Cursors" under Settings/Manage Sessions. You may also say it may be with the Caching on Initialization Block for the User Permission table, but we did Un-check the 'Use Caching' right below the Row-wise initialization for the corresponding Initialization block. We has 3 users with the same issue now. But when the user waits for certain time (for at least 1hr), and when they login after the actual hourly ETL ran, they were able to get in and use Report Portal without any issue. So, I am kind of sure this is something with CACHING and I might be missing some thing on Clearing this type of Cache. Could someone please help me out on this? This is in PRD and we are not able to find a solution. Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, we are using Initialization Blocks to update the User Groups. Our USER_PERMISSION table has Login, Company_ID, Roles, etc columns in it. The Initialization Block will query on this Table and the query has a where clause in it and the Where clause "where company_id=(select substr(':USER', 0, (instr(':USER', '.')) - 1) from dual) and upper(login)=upper((select substr(':USER', (instr(':USER', '.')) + 1) from dual))) and dw_delete_date is null" from which it will get the roles for each user. And YES, the Caching is turned off for this initialization block.
And I should try deleting the user folders, but my company has a very strict policy so I should do that in DEv, then QA and in PRD. Hope this works, but I am still not convinced why this is happening. We cannot keep on deleting the user folders in future if this happens again.

Windows Update Error 0x80070057

When installing Windows 7 SP 1 I get this error. When not using the Windows Update service, so manually downloading the SP and running it, the setup completes, reboots automaticually, typical "Configuring Windows Updates" screen, reboots again, "Configuring
stage 2" , suddenly the message changes to "Error configuring updates" and reverts to original state. Same story when using the windows updates service.
So far I have tried :
- System Update Readiness Tool
- Rename SoftwareDistribution folder
- Sysprep /oobe /generalize
- Update KB972036 is not installed
- Reset windows updates http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us
- Windows Update Troubleshooter
- Installed SP1 in Windows safe mode
- There are no references to 0x80070057 present in HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

I was convinced the problem was the SID as the PC's were cloned using images. But sysprep with the /generalize switch resets the SID, so appearently this was not the cause of the problem.
I do realize a format or a reset to factory with the manufacturer CD would fix this but we like to avoid this as we'll need to do all the PCs in our network.
Any suggestions on how to proceed would be very much appreciated.

I have to add a base permission to an existing role definition in sharepoint using CSOM Managed API in SP2013, to update base permission of a permission level. I did use below code . But Role definition is not getting updated. What could be the reason? I
have updated RoleDefinition and Web as well but it did not help.

As a workaround, I recommend to delete the permission level and then recreate the permission level with the needed permissions:

Automatic update fail

Early this morning my install of windows 10 tech preview attempted to update itself and now it is broken and unsable.
Symptoms : computer crashed upon first login.
After reboot:
Sound device no longer found
Cannot connect to wifi via usb wfif adapter (only way to connect to the internet btw)
Most things on the task bar from the start menu to the system tray no longer responds to a left click and the "windows key" no longer brings up the start menu.
Basically after this last round of updates (that forced a update without permission to reboot) Right now my computer has been turned into a doorstop.
I can't even access windows update...

I've got a problem inserting into a view that is based on a table residing in another schema.
Its a permission problem but I can't see what permission I need to grant - I don't want to give the user too much 'power'...
Here is my test case -

If I try to insert into the view as SYSDBA I get no error.
So the question is, is why do I get the view insert error when connected as user c ?
As far as I can see, user c has all permissions against the underlying table and can insert directly?
What permission am I missing?
P.S. I don't personally like inserting via a view - but my hands are tied...

I have now resolved this.
The reason for the privilege error is that when executing an INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE against a view that is based on a table residing in another schema, the schema that owns the view (in this case B) must have INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE permission against the underlying table (A.THETABLE). Note, this permission needs to be granted to the user schema that owns the view (B) – it is nothing to do as such with the user we are connecting as (in this case C - unless C has SYSDBA privilege which over rides everything so it doesn't matter...).
So this fixes it -
GRANT ALL ON A.THETABLE TO B;

I have an HP Envy h8-1534PC
I went to shut down my computer and it told me (no option) that it was doing an update. When I started my computer Internet Explorer wouldn't work at all. I Refreshed the computer and Internet Explorer worked but my anti-virus would not upload into the computer. Then when I went to shut off the second time, it did it again. It updated without permission. Now my computer is in a loop of "Could not update computer. Reconfiguring to previous version." How do I get the computer to stop updating without a choice? When I refreshed it the first time I set the options to never update without permission. That didn't work.

This sounds like failed update and you need to do a F8 safe mode with networking and uninstall the A/V program that might be the cause of it. But also since we have no specs or software that you using this is aking to looking for a Needle in a haystack question????

Role Updation-FDI api

Hi all,
i am trying to update the existing role through Java FDI api(albpmfdi.jar) .I use FuegoFDIAdmin.admin.addRolesToUser(soeId, roles, fuegoParameter, 95) to addroles to user.I dont find any similar utilities to update the existing role.I want to update the permission alone in the existing role.
DirHumanParticipant.getRolesAssignment() returns a string array which comprises of permission value.But it is a final variable so no new assignment could not be made.
I tried FuegoFDIAdmin.admin.addRolesToUser(soeId, roles[i], fuegoParameter, 255) again to see if that updates the existing role.But that throws exception since role already exists.
can anybody find a way out and can explain me what DirHumanParticipant.addpermission(int) will do .I tried this also but it doesnt have any impact.What is a user permission and permission added to a person with role ,How these both various.I will be grateful if somebody explains the user permission since i know what the later is meant for("XSARFGP")

We tried the insert and other stuffs which u proposed(see the commented lines below),But unfortunately those utilities are not available in any of the jars like fuegofdi.jar,fuego-papi client.jar ect.can u please help in finding the exact jar where all such stuffs are available to update the permission alone in the existing role and its implementation if possible.Once again my overwhelming thanks for the post.

Installed larger 10.5.1 update 100MB

And now permission repair just hangs. Shows 1 minute remaining on progress bar and does nothing. Let it sit for 20 minutes with no progress - no change. Did this update address permission repair or is this still an issue?

Powerbook 1.67 15" 2 meg ram. Installed 10.5 day after release. Had meltdown. Advised to replace HD - did so myself. Kept old HD and put in enclosure. Tried to incorporate a bootable SuperDuper backup to newly installed Leopard on new HD - worked to an extent, but was unable to open any files (Leopard reported unauthorized permissions) Found tip here to get tinkertool system and corrected all bad migrations. Have access to files now although it will take me another couple of weeks to get files ordered again. Anyway - decided to try to stick with Leopard and grow with it. Finding mostly nuisance bugs now. Hard to tell if its the OS or the applications. **** I miss Tiger, but I am not going through another OS transition. I'm here for the duration now.
