  • Nokia N8 with Symbian Anna cannot add new maps

    Hi,
Monday October 24, 2011, I received the new Symbian Anna software update for the NAM version. All my installs went correctly except when I try to download in Ovi Map to  "Add New Maps".
I can't "Add New Maps" with the update from my device or throught Nokia Ovi suite.
The error message in Ovi Map from my device is: "Could not download list!"
The error message in Nokia Ovi Suite is:  "Couldn't connect to the service"
" There seems to be a problem with connecting to the online map service."
"If the problem doesn't go away, please try again later."
Now it seems the problem to be not solve since because I still have the same message when I try  again.
I would like to know what happen? Why I can't download new maps for the Ovi Map?
    Thank you,

  • Can't update my N8 to Symbian Anna

    Hi,
I purchased my phone from a friend. It was previously used in Switzerland with Swisscom, now used in France with Bouygues telecom. Unfortunately, I can't get symbian anna update. I tried via OTA, OVI suite (latest version), Nokia PC suite, wifi... but it nevert shows anything.
I contacted Nokia, they suggested that I reset the phone with original parameters, what I did but update is still not available.
Can someone please help me? Thank you.
    Solved!

It simply means that the phone's product code is not yet eligible for updating due to certain reasons like a branded unit, or country variant.

  • Nokia E6 or Symbian Anna Bug ?

Nokia really needs to update nokia E6 Firmware to resolve the bugs regarding no call waiting or divert onscreen notification
    whats wrong guys ?
This feature is always present in any other cellphone but in Symbian Anna or E6 does`nt show if the caller is already on another call or the calling number is on divert.
my nokia E5 can show if the number called is on divert or already on call (Waiting notification)
Nokia kindly reply or anyone can eloborate from Nokia Team or Any Technical Advisor ?
These two features are really mandatory in any other cellphone but why not in Symbian Anna or Nokia E6 ?

I live in Bucharest, Romania, and have the same problem since more than two months now! I called Nokia customer support and, after having waited for two weeks, they called me back to say they checked with their "headquarters" and that there's no way the phone has such a problem... That this function works perfectly in Finland etc. They advised me to go to the Nokia Care center to get the phone fixed... So I went there. In order for them not to claim anything else later, I asked the Nokia Care clerk to call another number from his mobile and meanwhile I called him from my old Nokia E71. The "Waiting" sign appeared immediately. Then I put the same SIM card into the brand new Nokia E6 and did the same test but no "Waiting" appeared...!!! They kept my phone there for another 15 days, and, at the end they told me that the Symbian Anna doesn't (yet) support this function... And guess what: I found out the E7 (the new Nokia Communicator) has the same issue.... Why? Because it also carries the... Symbian Anna! Honestly speaking, this "Waiting" function that Nokia had but Blackberry didn't still kept me with Nokia... But with this one gone, I really have no other reasons to stick to Nokia... Pity, Nokia, that you're sinking like this...But before you do, just let me hope for another week: are you going to fix this shortcoming with a new software update or do you really not care anymore???
Honestly, people: when someone buys the latest, state-of-the-art phone, it expects that it shall feature much more WITHOUT giving up on the main functions that made them what they are... It's like buying an Audi because it has the best 4x4 Quattro system, only to discover that the shiny car doesn't have it anymore and no one has told you...!The fact that you guys at Nokia have put out a phone missing a basic, IMPORTANT function that nearly all previous releases had is abuse of trust to us, your buyers. May I say in my case I felt like I got stolen the money I spent buying this phone... And the Nokia corporate reactions I went through in order to solve this issue were simply pathetic... Too bad, and I'm genuinely bitter with this experience... !

  • Cant update nokia 5230

Hi. I have a problem updating my 5230 firmware. Its currently on v20.xx.xx and the latest version listed on the site is v50.xx.xx. I tried using the phone and it said no updates available, then tried nokia suite, also said no updates available. Please help
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Availability of update depends on Product Code / Region. Also, for Network locked devices, update is possible only after an approval from the Operator... Seems, one of the reasons is preventing you from getting the update. as a final try, you may approach your local Nokia Care and see if they can help you. No harm trying your luck ..

  • Cannot update to Symbian Anna (Nokia N8)

So this morning I woke up, searched for a software update and there I saw it, 'Nokia Software Device Update' and I was very excited.
I then downloaded Ovi Suite, as I didn't have it installed already and tried to update my N8 to symbian anna.
When I connect my N8 via the USB cable, it searches for updates but says that there are no updates availible. Sometimes I get a message saying something about a connection problem. I have insured that no firewalls are blocking Ovi suite from the internet so everything should be fine.
I have noticed that some people where managing to update over the air, which I find easier than using Ovi. First of all (on my N8) I went to applications and then SW Update. This finds the update, but only allows you to update it via a PC, giving no option for a direct download on the phone. I then went to settings, phone, phone management, device updates, click options and selected 'check for updates'. Everytime I use this option it displays 'No Updates Availible'.
I have waited so long for this update and I think its outrageous in this day and age that something so simple as a software update, that most other phone companies seem to be able to enable so easily, is made so difficult to do by Nokia.
Incase it helps, I live in the UK and my phone network is Orange.
    Someone, please help me

Use old method of Nokia Software Updater It works

  • Patch for Symbian Anna released? (Nokia E7)

    Hi All
I am not sure what is going on.
My E7 was serviced by NOKIA care Point one week ago. Phone came back to me with Symbian Anna and all updates applied (I checked it same day the phone was back)
Today, when checking Applications>SW Update I noticed this:
    My Question is:
Is this update about patch for Symbian Anna?
Because here are details of my system:
I am confused because same set of updates came from Nokia when I was updating from Symbian^3 to Anna.
    Can any one explain this?

let me give you some more flashes:
    1. 7370 reset will tell you that all the 3 updates are required.
    2. after doing so, ovi store will not work.
    3. you will scour this forum and find out that you have to install 3 files, in proper sequence, reboot system.
    4. bad luck.
    5. then you will try 3 button reset
    6. WOW. ovi store will work after the similar 3 file anna update
    7. you will call nokia care line
    8. they will tell you that 3 button reset is not nokia recommended and that you will have to "reflash" your device
    9. you will lose your cool, especially after having come from the same place already
    10. then you will scream out loud in this forum.
    11. you will get used to the problem or you will optimistally wait for Belle.
whew... sometimes, i tend to think that if the above process is standard in one order or the other, there is no need for this forum! nokia can post this in a website itself as a
    if... then... else... code prose!

  • Nokia offers free download for Symbian Anna

Symbian Anna – the latest software update for Nokia’s Symbian smartphones – is now available for download in the Philippines.
Symbian Anna significantly enhances the user experience on the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 and Nokia E7. A new user interface, virtual QWERTY keypad in portrait mode, split-screen messaging, enhanced Nokia Maps, better web browsing and stronger security are just a few of the improvements that people will be able to enjoy. Symbian Anna can be downloaded using the latest version of Ovi Suite (version 3.1.1) on a PC, or over-the-air directly to your smartphone.
"Nokia’s Symbian smartphones are used by millions of people around the world every day, addressing specific consumer needs and providing choices at many price points," said Mike Smith, Device Portfolio Manager, Nokia Philippines. "Symbian Anna represents a significant update to the experience of those users. It also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to Symbian, which still headlines the next 10 phones that Nokia will introduce over the next 12 months. Moreover, it signifies our thrust to continuously bring updates to the user experience and support for the software until at least 2016."
Below are some of the key features of the Symbian Anna:
New user interface: Symbian Anna brings a fresh new look and feel to the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 and Nokia E7 with crisp icons and multiple usability enhancements. Typing on the touchscreen is much easier with a split screen, so you can see message threads, webpages, contacts or email view while typing on the virtual QWERTY keypad – now also available in portrait mode.
Better maps and navigation: Symbian Anna enhances Nokia Maps with better search functionality, new public transportation routes and the ability to check-in to favorite geo-social network sites like Facebook, Foursquare and Twitter. Users can also share their location via email and SMS, even to non-Nokia phones.
Faster browsing experience: A faster, easier-to-use browser delivering quicker page loads and improved device navigation allows people to connect more easily to their favorite sites on the go.
Stronger security for better business: Symbian Anna brings true business-grade security with improved data encryption on Nokia smartphones. Business users with a Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 or Nokia E7 can now easily and securely access their company intranet with IPSEC and SSL VPN enablers.
Near Field Communications (NFC) availability for Nokia C7: The Symbian Anna software update also activates the NFC hardware in the Nokia C7, so people can now simply tap their Nokia C7s together to share contacts, photos, videos and play games; easily pair with NFC-enabled accessories from Nokia and others; and read NFC tags to check-in and more.
Business users will also benefit from more features offered by Symbian Anna. Enjoy instant messaging and presence with Microsoft Communicator Mobile. E-mail enhancements are also provided, including full meeting request support.

  • Clarification on 025.007 for Symbian Anna products

    Hi all,
as you might have noticed we started rolling out a new update version for the Symbian Anna products.
025.007 only contains some error fixes and is therefore not a mandatory update for N8/C7/C6-01/E7/E6/X7. This means, that not all countries/operators will test and approve this version. The rollout is happening in waves, depending on lcoal testing and approval. If you want to get a notification when the update is available for your phone, please switch on the software update auto check. (You can find it under Options in your phone’s Software Update App.)
    BR,
    yvonne

I received a symbian Anna service pack of size 1040KB which when installed did not change the version to 025,but said it was meant for usability improvements. It will give me better scrolling in messages and help me get quick location info on photos plus more(it was not mentioned what exactly is this "plus").However it added conversation appl, java run time and conversation server to my installed files list.

  • QuickOffice Pro fails to Install on Symbian Anna

I have a Nokia N8 with Symbian Anna. I purchased QuickOffice Pro from Ovi Store and it downloads but then fails to install. The trial version from the QuickOffice site also fails to install. Before I purchased QuickOffice I deleted the version of QuickOffice that came with Symbian Anna.
Now I am left with no QuickOffice even though I have paid for it.
Can someone suggest what I should do so I can install the QuickOffice Pro that I have paid for.
    Jen
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I emailed quickoffice tech support and they gave me a solution that works.
My unit is a C6-01 that I recently updated (successfully) to symbian anna including the 2 updates that came later.
Here's how I did it as per their advice:
Before you start, download the .sis file for the quickoffice pro version 7 (39) that you purchased from Quickoffice. You will use this later.
    1. backup your phone using nokia ovi suite, if you want to shorten this, backup only the important data like phone contacts, device settings, applications settings, calender etc. You can do away with the backup of music, picture and video files as those take time.
    2.  reset your device as follows which I quote " At the main screen, enter *#7370# – The default lock code is 12345. This will restore the device to its original state, removing all user data, contacts, and third-party applications you may have installed."
this will tell you that the reset will also erase the contents of your memory card, if you dont want your memory card erased, remove it before resetting, then proceed to resetting.  If you have entered your own lock code, use that instead of the default lock code 12345.
after you enter the lock code, the phone will shut down and reboot with a white screen only. Wait for it to compelete as it takes some time.
    3. After the resetting is complete, all softwares that you installed will be temporarily gone (since you took out the memory card) but you can recover it later.
    4. connect your cell to your PC and use Nokia Ovi suiet to install the Quickoffice pro 7 that you downloaded.
this should install the quickoffice pro successfully.
Check if the quickoffice pro is working.
5.then re-install your memory card which you removed in step 2.  The restore the contents of your phone using OVI suite.
    6. Finally, update your phone software using ovisuite.  It will say that it has 2 or 3 updates pending.  Just proceed with the update since that update will not erase the quickoffice pro that is already installed.
that's it. you should have a working copy of QUickoffice pro 7.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE:  This worked on my Nokia C6-01 updated to Symbian Anna.  I cannot speak for other nokia models.
    I hope this helps.

  • Typing experience in Symbian Anna and its touch in...

Coming from a symbian 9.2 device (more exactly the Nokia N95), I've tested Nokia N8 input system before buying it, and I've got very surprised when I've known symbian ^3 had a keyboard layout that simulates the physical alpha numeric keyboard found in non-QWERTY phones (called "alphanumeric keyboard" in Symbian Anna). For an even greater surprise, the "predictive text" feature is also present, what for me, makes "alphanumeric keyboard" the best and fastest one to type.
Of course QWERTY keyboard is cool, but as I live in Brazil, the keys are smaller (to give room for special characters like ^, ~, `,' and c) if I use Portuguese as the Writing Language. On the other hand, the alphanumeric keyboard.has big keys, that are easily selectable.
Although "porting" the keyboard to a touch screen environment was very well done by Nokia in my opinion, there are a few features that were availiable for physical keyboards, and that aren't found in its touch screen counterpart.Below are the improvements that could also by ported, allowing an even faster typing experience in Symbian ^3 phones, and that would make typing almost perfect: (everything you read below is based on my experience as an user of a Nokia N8 with Symbian Anna, version 025.007)
-Multi-touch support for the key pressing. This is the number one addition, and the one I'd choose if only one of the improvements stated here could be done.Currently, only one key can be pressed at a time when typing, and that really slow things down, specially when you alternate keys using both fingers.Commonly, you find out the desired key didn't have its input processed cause you were already holding another key when the later was pressed. In physical keyboards of phones running (for example) Symbian 9.2, at least two keys can be securely pressed at the same time, and both inputs are processed
-Navigate by word. When Predictive text is active, and you move the cursor to some word, it could be underlined, meaning you could navigate quickly through words, and most importantly, make corrections more easily.Let's imagine you are trying to write the word "congratulations".After typing "congratu", you unwillingly press space, thus going out of the word.If you move the cursor back to it, i doesn't "stick" to the word.Instead, it just navigate through the letters. To complete the word, you'd need to either delete the whole word and rewrite it, or complement it as an independent word (typing with predictive text disabled, for example). If the same behaviour available to physical alphanumeric keyboards were implemented, it would be very easier to correct words, as moving the cursor to some word would cause it to stick to that word, entering immediately into an active prediction of that word.
    - # key as "previous" during prediction. When you are typin some word with predictive text active, * key move forward in the matches list, but # key does absolutely nothing. In Nokia N95, for example, pressing it would go to previous word in list.
The following isn't a feature that were available in previous phones, it's just an improvement to the input system that could be implemented:
    - Double-click in a word would select it, and a triple-click would select the whole text. It's possible in an other operating system for phones, and that makes it very easy to select text.
Please post your tips and feelings about the typing system in Symbian ^3 (related to touch input system).
Note: This goal of this post is to state some things that counld be improved by Nokia when releasing new updates
    Best Regards

  • C7 symbian ANNA in israel

    Hi
What is the time line to release ANNA in israel??
    Thanks

    Nokia Support contacted me...
The solution on the Nokia Browser Bug described in this topic is to always type the web address and not to use bookmarks option.
So, now I have to type over 30 characters every time I use the Nokia Browser ?!!?
I hoped that was a joke...
    Was not.
Even so, the this solution is not working.
After hours of phone talking with Nokia Support on my cost, I can tell every one of you that I will never buy Nokia products and I will never recommend Nokia products to someone.
I have changed 3 different Nokia BH-216 in the last 2 years because of lousing connection with the Nokia phones (5800 and C7)...
Adding the experience with Nokia Support and Symbian Anna, I think that Nokia Products are not reliable any more.
    R.I.P. Nokia...
You cost me too much time and a lot of money...

  • Symbian Anna update 1/2 failed to install

The story so far. I did the first round Anna update (around 27 mb i think) OTA cos my Ovi Suite never able to update firmware on my n8 since trying to update it to PR 1.2, and I did try reinstalling, redownload, reboot PC, reg clean, ccleaner to fix the Suite but it still do not update my firmware at all. But that's another story.
So I installed the 1st round, n8 rebooted to white screen, rebooted into homesceen with Midnight theme. SW update then shows 4 more items: Anna update 1/2, 2/2, Store and Social. The 1/2 was showing around 20++ mb. So I selected all 4 and update. Halfway through the installing process of 1/2 update (note the download part of 1/2 was very fast), I did plug in the power pin, cos the installation process was damn slow for 1/2. I did not notice wheher it finised installing cos later i checked it was already on 2/2 (downloaded and installing). It then went to the last two items and installed ok.
Rebooted device, but SW update still showed Anna update 1/2 available (the only one left) and the download size is now 7166 kb. I proceed to update it, it failes with error but no error codes or any message what was the error about. I tried again and again, with fresh reboots, still failes. What gives?
Even more, split screen not here. I did the uninstalling Swype, activating qwerty mode in portrait, still no split screen.  I do not have any Betalabs apps.
My Quickoffice & Reader is not here anymore (the app manager not showing them too). Heck I bought the full ver of Quickoffice 6 last time. Wat a waste of my money now that ver 7 is out!!
Anyone knows how to delete the "dowloaded cache" of SW updates? I want to force SW update to redownload this 1/2 item to try fix this issue.
Thanks for listening and please help. Cheers!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I got the same problem since this morning on both my N8 & just found out solution on a previous update error similar to this & completed the update on one of the N8. Re-trying on another one.
Working Solution for failed update was found on Flashism's website quoted & "touched up" per below:
Big thanks to user “Unick” on Nokia Support Forums, who posted a working solution to the problem, and there are couple of successful installs reported from the solution.
I just deleted folder E:\Private\20019119\. After that I ran SW update on the phone & it restarted download of Symbian Anna Update 1/2 & 2/2 as well as Social, they  finished updates successfully.
To delete the mentioned folder, follow these simple steps:
    • Connect your Nokia N8/C7 in Mass Storage mode to PC via USB cable
    • Locate and delete folder named “20019119″ under \Private folder of Mass Storage
    • Unplug the device from PC, and retry again. It should work.
However, I still got no popup split keyboard after completing the updates & restarted the phone.
