Practically all russian users of 5800 can't get access to firmware V20.0.012 and even to V11.0.08. Why?

Hi flashxl,It's because of Russian network operators must approve new SW first.
Like always, a lot of bureaucracy slowing down innovation and changes. I hope RUS operators will sign the RFA and we can upgrate our nice phones very soon.

Suggestion for next firmware update - Nokia 5800

If anyone from nokia is reading this in the next firmware update for the Nokia 5800 XM can we have the facility of have the name of the title track of a song scroll from left to right whilst the song is playing, as at the moment it scrolls once and then stops so if its a song with a long title all you can see is just half the title after its scrolled once, and also maybe a way as the song is playing of seeing the details of the song playing (like the tags for artist, Kbps, song title, album name) by clicking the onscreen softkey/options button. And also this can be extended to the contacts list where the name will scroll from left to right to show the full contact name when you press on it, at the moment it doesn't do that.

Unfortunately the care centres are the only people that can help you.
Any other methods that you may read about on other forums will void your warranty and cannot be discussed here.

Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately you will need to visit Nokia Care Point for "language pack" to be installed; this appears to have been done previously with earlier firmware on your 5800XM, but unfortunately software update servers deliver firmware appropriate to the seven digit product code on label below battery which appears to be from a different region. Bear in mind on a pre-owned device that actual product code recorded electronically might not tally with the one on label.

Software update Nokia 5800

On my Nokia 5800 if I go to software update in the menu it connects to the internet and gives me a list of what needs updating, a very good feature (if it worked OK) so I got this list which says Here & Now 2.0 and mail for Exchange, Nokia messaging 10.2, ovi contacts 1.50 and scribble. Now up the top of that list it says phone software and then underneath that it says Important, all the others are optional, now this important one set alarm bells ringing so I ticked it and see that it has to be updated by PC (seems you cannot update it OTA) so I went to the site on my PC (www.nokia.com/softwareupdate) and it said the latest firmware was 50.0.005 so I checked on my phone using *#0000# and my phone told me I had 50.0.005 firmware already on it, and when I check options it says no updates available! - so what am I to believe the software updates in the phones menu or check for updates on the *#0000# screen? - Does anyone know whats going on?, is it a bug? Thanks.

that's applications updates. when you dial *#0000# it says phone's firmware. so v50 is the latest firmware for 5800xm. you can update your application using SW update.
go to - menu>applications>sw update then it will automatically searches for updates select updates that you want to update then select Start Update from options menu.
you can update these applications through OVI suit too. connet your phone via USB. then select update tab.

Update Nokia 5800 XpressMusic software

Hello,
I update my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic through Nokia Suite on my personal computer.
Step 1. Get Started and Step 2. Back up was successfully done. On Step 3. Install, I follow the instructions. Then my phone screen turns white. Then the logo of Nokia and its version was displayed on the screen. Then it shut-down/turned OFF by itself. A message on my Nokia Suite(on my PC) says "Your phone is restarting" and an instructions below says "Take a look at your phone. If it asks you for your PIN code, time and date, or your Nokia account details, type them on your phone. You may also need to choose the Nokia Suite (or Nokia Ovi Suite, or PC Suite) USB mode on your phone. Then wait for the installation to continue.".. So I wait. Then a follow up message show that says "If your phone does not restart, remove and re-insert the battery, charger, and the USB cable. Then switch the phone on.".
So I follow the instruction. I removed and re-insert the battery, charger, and the usb cable. Then I switch the phone on. BUT the problem is.. it doesn't turn ON. Still off. When I long-press the POWER button, it vibrates but it doesn't continue to turn ON. I hear continues pop-up sound on my PC when the USB cable was connected. But still nothing happens.
Your immediate advice is highly appreciated on this matter. Thanks in advance.

my current version is 50.0.005, and im updating it to 51.0.006
but in the last step of the updates it says
"internal error"
"most probably there is non-commercial software in your device"

Updating Nokia 5800 XM Prob

I tried to upgrade my 5800 OTA, it started downloading but when it reached the middle it stopped and reported
"network unavailable." though i could use Fringe, so it wasn't problem with my connection, I thought it was something to do with Nokia's Server.
I tried again and now it shows "No Update Available" , though just a minute ago it shouwed, I hard Reset my phone and what not but it just doesn't show the update. any ideas ?? it sucks..

I have to disagree strongly on that!
Upgrading your phone via OTA is the easiest and safest way to upgrade your device there can be...
Go to Menu --> Settings --> Phone --> Phone mgmt. --> Device update --> Options --> Check for updates
You´ll need a WiFi or any other full internet access point to make it work! And your battery should be at least 3/4 full or connected to the charger.
The advantage of this is that the "data preservation" won´t wipe your phone and you don´t have to set it up again...

Updating Nokia 5800

My problem is fairly simple. Try to update my nokia 5800 with the pc nokia software updater, within the first couple of minutes, the pc says my phone is disconnect and then the pc suit says failure to update phone please reconnect it when i havnt touched it? Tried OTA but doesnt find update yet, Any suggestions?

I do not work for nokia but I do know how firmware updates work for branded models. I agree with everything grschinon wrote above.
Between orange and nokia you are being given incorrect information. The people on orange and nokia's support lines are just script readers that often have very little real knowledge about a problem. Thats to be expected for orange but it is disappointing that nokia care often act in the same way.
When nokia creates a new firmware they pass it to the networks before it's even released to owners of generic non-network models. After testing nokia then releases it for the generic models then as the networks approve the update it gets released for them too. The quicker a network approves the firmware the quicker nokia makes it available on it's updater. As an example vodafone UK were quick to approve the update and it is available through nokia's updater.
Nokia can never force the networks to approve new firmware so some networks get away with never releasing any updates. In the past few years orange UK have been amongst the slowest often not bothering at all.
Your situation isn't unusual or unique it has been happening for years and it's well known that the networks are the cause of this problem. Orange is the cause and sadly there is nothing that you can do about it other than to vote with your feet. Hopefully one day the networks will just allow nokia to release updates when nokia wants to, not when the networks allow them to.

I've got problems with updating my fabulous Nokia 5800 Xpress Music! Well, I've got still installed 31.0.101 firmware version. So I wanted to update my phone to "41" or latest versions, but nothning happens! I run my "Nokia software update" and it says that "there is no update available" or "your phone is already up to date"! Thing is the same if I press all know function *#0000# and try to update there. Also the same in Nokia PC Suite...
So, Nokia fans and employees, please help me with some tricks, that I can improve performance of my Nokia... Thanks a lot!

Reasons why a phone cannot update:
1. It is a country variant - country variants often get the updates later, or have updates skipped altogether. A Turkish country variant product code for example, skipped v40 and updated from v31 straight to v50.
2. It is network branded - phones acquired from network providers or these providers' stores SIM free are branded, and will not get updates until the networks approve and modify the updates to their liking.
3. Special editions - These special editions are chartered editions and may never get updates unless taken to a Nokia Care center.

Updating Nokia 5800 Software version

I am having difficulty in updating the software version of my Nokia 5800 Express music. I want to install map installer and heard that my software version has to be updated. I tried *#0000# but it asks me of the server profile. Yesterday i tried through the nokia ovi suit but it could not finish. the versio around 51.... was the one i was downloading. My current version is V21.2.025. Please help me, or even tell me how i can get the previous versions of Nokia Map installer other than v3

Problem updating Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

First excuse me for my bad English.
I have just updated my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic with the USB cable and plugged into the mains. At the end of the update, a window told me that I could unplug my phone and nothing more since it does not turn over: just a vibration but no screen display. I removed the battery and did another test and still nothing. Is there a solution or should I return it to the VAS.

Hi, Did the phone complete the hard reset? I.e. after the phone is completely started up, it prompts for a country selection? To do the reset, the phone must be turned off first, then hold the relative buttons together / simultaneously while turning on, until prompted for the country selection.
If you managed to complete the hard reset, and your problem is still occurring, then please keep me updated as to how you resolved it, just incase I need to also try it

Overall the phone is good with this firmware u can look around on these boards for the bugs people encountered with it so far. No hangs and crashes so far but i cant vouch for it.

Cannot Update Nokia 5800 Firmware

I own a nokia 5800 on t-mobile UK. I'm on a mac so cannot use the device update software. I entered *#0000# and tried to update it. However I got asked to create a new server profile. I read some 'default' nokia server settings on another forum and entered them but received a message saying server not responding. I've tried some other server settings I found but none of it works. I really would like to update it! Help me please!

You could take it to a Nokia Care Center and they'll update it for you. Problem free for you. =p
