Update on Safari 3.2 Fixes

http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=2008111400261368

Issues with InputManagers like these may arise from installing bad Dashboard Widgets that haven't been updated, Netflix Freak, which uses Webfoundation, and has terminated its continued updating, or using specialty web browser addons such as PithHelmet without keeping them up to date, or Speed Download, or any other application that addresses that system of InputManagers and Webfoundation. Some programmers attempt to address InputManagers and Webfoundation as if 10.4.11 was still current, only to not address the differences in 10.5. If you look at http://www.haxies.com/ many of their InputManager based programs have stopped their support at 10.4.11, since they are still after a year learning how to deal with the new InputManager system.
The issue here is that some people desire more customization with their system than the system can handle with stability. Granted sometimes it is nice to have new window designs. I suggest that until you isolate what is causing issues with your web browser, to try a different web browser*:
http://www.macmaps.com/browser.html
That would not make sense that the Bugreporter doesn't work with Apple's web browser unless, there is some intervening factor causing instability for the system. It may also indicate that something was not prepared right when you updated*:
http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
Regardless, this behavior is not normal, in spite of others appearing to have these same problems. Many people try to add addons to their systems, without regard for the fact that when they update their system, many third party addons never do get tested with new operating system updates. There are more Apple compatible software titles than can be tested jointly in the age of the universe. Apple issues Developer guidelines to avoid such issues on http://developer.apple.com/
If developers fail to test and make sure those guidelines are followed, it is hard for Apple to do anything about it. So my suggestion is to simplify your system and find out if it works as a bare bones system. Add bells and whistles sparingly, and only on backed up systems*:
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
So that if you find that after updating the bells and whistles don't work, you can remove them by restoring your backup.
Edit:
Since you seem to have it on "clean" drives, and it is assuming that you actually erased the hard drive, installed the operating system, and then the Safari update, it may indicate you have a hardware problem with your computer.
Further reading your profile, it looks like you have an upgrade CPU. I wonder if the firmware for that CPU doesn't support the prebinding code as it may have changed.

  • Has anyone else noticed that: "The OS X Lion v10.7.3 Update includes Safari 5.1.3 and fixes that: Resolve a Wi-Fi connection issue when waking from sleep" didn't work?

I installed OS X Lion v10.7.3 because of the following claim.
The OS X Lion v10.7.3 Update includes Safari 5.1.3 and fixes that:
Resolve a Wi-Fi connection issue when waking from sleep
It continues to be a real pain having to reconnect to the network each time I wake my MacBook Air from sleep.
Does anyone have a suggestion for the resolution to this problem?

It seems the update fixed old problems for some and caused new problems for others. Sorry to hear you're in the latter group.
Here are some things to try.
    1. Go to System Preferences > Network, and click the gear icon under the network interfaces like so:
Whatever service order you have set, drag Wi-Fi either to the top (assuming it's not already there) or someplace else in the list. Click OK and then Apply. Sleep the system then wake it again to observe any changes.
    2. Click Wi-Fi in the above then click Advanced. Select all the networks your computer has ever joined and delete them with the "-" button. OK then Apply again. Select your network under the AirPort icon to re-join it. Sleep and wake again to see if that did anything.
    3. Try creating a new, temporary user account. Log in under that account to see if its behavior is any different.
You may have done all of these already but perhaps there is something you have not thought of. If nothing helps we may just have to wait a bit longer for Apple to release a fix.

  • How to update to Safari 2.0.4??

My update to Safari 2.0.4 failed (probably because I tend to rename my apps with their version number, so the old Safari was named "Safari 2.03", but this is never any problem with iTunes or QuickTime). There was a new app, called Safari (with version number 2.0.4) but I can't get it to run at all. It just bounces a couple of times and then quit. I can still run the older 2.0.3. But how can I update this to 2.0.4?? Or is there a way to download 2.0.4 as a standalone??
The rest of my updates (to 10.4.7) and security fixes worked fine.
I am grateful for any help!!

    Hello Vicki,
    Welcome to Apple discussions
To get Safari to update to 2.0.4 reinstall Mac OS X 10.4.7 Combined Update that should do it.Remember to run disk premission repair, befor & after.
Make sure all applications are using their original names, and are stored
in their respective folders, to see the version you just click under the application and get the info on version from the "About Safari" etc.
Hope this helps,~ good luck, please let us know .

  • Updating from safari 1.2 to 1.3

How do I update from the old safari 1.2 to the newest version of safari? I can't find anyplace to download and update it. I had safari 1.3.2 at one time and now one of my kids messed it up and now I have just safari 1.2. I have found things for updating to safari 1.3.2 but it says I can't use them on my Mac cause I have to get just the 1.3 version of safari first before I can upgrade to the newest version. Thank you and you can also email me at [email protected]

I just wanted to say think you for the help. It seems to do the trick and get safari fixed. The shockwave flash is working right now and it got me back safari 1.3. Still have to do some more updating to get the lastest safari version on. I tried to download safari 1.3.1 upgrade http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/safariupdate131.html or http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/safariupdate131. html and the safari 1.3.2 upgrade http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/safariupdate132.html or http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/safariupdate132. html Didn't matter what one I downloaded, they wouldn't update. Got to the part where it starts updating and when you pick where you want it to go it has a red thing there and doesn't let you run the update. I tried the 1.3.1 first and then the 1.3.2 one second. Thanks again and any help getting the rest updated would be great.

  • Updated to Safari 4.0.3

I'm trying to update my Safari to 4.0.3 and every time that I try to install I receive a system error (-1409) message.
Yesterday, I had the Apple store help me to reinstalled my 10.4.11 OS X Tiger system. Now, when I try to shop at the iTunes store I can't without my Safari being updated to 4.0.3, which it once was. How do I fix this without having to go back to the Apple store? Thanks!
Note: I used the http://www.apple.com/safari/download/ and selected Tiger. I still had issues. My computer is a mac mini.

The specific issue is that my software update doesn't download the new version of iTunes, which prevents me from using the iTunes store, please note that when I'm in iTunes and try to open the store a box pops up that says I must have the latest version of Safari in order to use the store.
I can't download Safari 4.0.3 from apple's website because it produces a system error of (-1409) when I try to open it. Maybe there is trouble with the download for Safari Tiger version?
I don't have the install discs because they were lost in a cross-country move. My profile says that I'm using a different system, but that is for a different computer. My current system is 10.4.11 on my mac mini-I think I made the correct changes on my profile. Thanks for all the help!

  • Login problems after update to Safari 3.1

Hi, ever since I updated to Safari 3.1.0 I have been unable to login to any site that requests a login. I have checked if it has a problem with secure websites and I can load a secure page ie: https://www.verisign.com with no problem, also seems happy if I used any site that had been logged into before. The later no longer work after I cleared the cache and cookies to try to fix the login problem. I have run all updates so am on 3.1.2 with no change. Strange thing is, I can get to any site with login on Firefox and camino with out problems. Any ideas to help fix this as it's driving me nuts.

I have the same problem. I enter username and password and I get dumped back to the login screen. It isn't the username/password error screen, it is the original login screen.
I've reset/trashed everything I can think of but that hasn't helped.
Anyone know where I can get a 3.0 version?

  • 10.5.2 Update and Safari 3.1 Freeze Screen

When 10.5.2 was released, I updated it immediately using the software update link, but unfortunately it freeze my screen using Safari, Yahoo Messenger and other programs (two connection LAN & Dialup - both freeze screen). Below are what I did to the computer trying to install this 10.5.2:
    1. Install 10.5.2 using the software update link... freeze screen!
    2. Reformat, reinstall 10.5, then go to Disk Utility and repair the authorization before updating to 10.5.2 combo that I downloaded (as per the advise of other)... again freeze screen!
    3. Reformat, reinstall 10.5, install 10.5.2 combo and omit the Graphic Update... again freeze screen!
    4. Reformat, reinstall 10.5, install 10.5.1 then install 10.5.2... again freeze screen!
    5. Yesterday, I saw an update of Safari 3.1 and Security Update, but unfortunately I cannot install those two update unless I install 10.5.2. So again, hoping to fix the freeze screen problem, I reformat again and install all the necessary update... again FREEZE SCREEN USING SAFARI... I don't know the other programs because I'm tired of testing this 10.5.2. Why Apple release a Security Update and Safari 3.1 only for 10.5.2?
Well, I think I'll just follow the suggestion of other that stay with stable OS X 10.5.1.
If you have any other solution, I would appreciate.

  • Software update - mail, safari & iphoto won't load

I am having a problem after trying to update safari yesterday. The update failed for some reason and when I restarted this morning I could not load mail, safari or iphoto but ical, address book and firefox (and other non ilife programs) load up as normal.
The standard reaction when I click the icon on the dock is for the icon to bounce once and then nothing. I have tried opening from the Apps folder but no difference. What can I do to sort it out. Any help much appreciated,
    thanks
    roop

    roop,
If you updated Safari using Apple's Software Update than it may have installed the wrong version for your computer as a number of users reported in various forums. On MacInTouch user Tom Freridge stated:
+I believe there are two different Safari installers, one for PPC cpu and one for Intel cpu, and Software Update may not be choosing the correct version.+
+I'm running 10.4.11 on a PPC. When I installed Safari 3.1 via Software Updater, it failed just as others as have mentioned. I trashed it, reinstalled 3.04, then went to Apple.com and downloaded the installer to my desktop. When the dmg file unstuffs, there were actually two installers, one for PPC cpu and one for Intel cpu.+
+I installed the security update first (which wasn't available on Software Update when I first updated to Safari 3.1), restarted the computer, fixed permissions, then installed Safari from the PPC installer on my desktop and fixed permission again. Now everything seems to work fine.+
If you don't have Safari 3.0.4, then I suggest you delete the 3.1 receipt and the path to that is HD/Library/Receipts/Safari31UpdUniv.pkg or Safari31UpdPPC.pkg as the case may be. Then download Safari 3.1 from Apple.com to your desktop. Launch Disk Utilities (in the Utilities folder) and Repair Disk Permissions. Next, open the downloaded Safari.dmg, double click on the PPC version and follow the prompts. Afterwards, repair disk permissions again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Latest update of safari crashes computer

This Monday my computer indicated that a new update for safari (OSX 10.4) was available. I duly loaded it but when I restarted the computer as indicated after the install OSX would not boot but I obtained a black screen with UNIX script asking for a login name and password but which would not recognise those usually used for the computer.
Restarting with my OSX 10.4 disc and running the disk utility now indicated hard drive problems but could not repair them.
Tech Tool Pro shows that there are the wrong number of threads in the volume structure and is trying to repair - so far 4 hours and still going at it.
Now another colleague has done the safari update on her ibook and has exactly the same problem. Although its only 2 cases it does suggest that there might be a problem with this update.
Thought I'd post this to suggest that users might want to procede with caution when advised that the update is available. Have contacted Apple support UK but have yet to get a reply.
    Anyone else had this problem?

I have also been having problems with the new Safari 2.0.1 Update. Everything was working pretty good (every once in a while a program would hang). But I decided that I should update, but after I did, The Software Update program wouldn't finish or force quit, and other programs wouldn't quit or force quit either, forcing me to do a hard reboot.
When I got everything working, my address book was lost and iChat was acting new. I renamed ~/Library/Application\ Support/AddressBook/AddressBook.data.previous to ~/Library/Application\ Support/AddressBook/AddressBook.data, which got my Address Book back (thankfully), and strangely enough, it also seemed to fix iChat (some of the names weren't there yet, but when I clicked on one, it quit. When I relaunched the app, they were all there.
Now, I am unable to use Safari since whenever I try to load my essentials auto-tab (15 Tabs), it crashes. It will also crash when i try to load some of my bookmarks. I have tried deleting and reimporting the bookmarks.
I am now usign Firefox (i imported the bookmarks, it would take forever to type in 15 addresses everytime i load).

  • Cannot Update to Safari 4... install crashes...

I cannot update to Safari 4! I had installed the Beta version but since then have uninstalled back to 3.0... the new update crashes during installation every time. On top of all that, now none of my ilife programs will launch at all. Itunes and safari don't give error messages they just "bounce" once and that's it. This happened a few days ago which is what prompted me to uninstall the Beta version which fixed it until now. Any ideas? This is the report given when the install program crashes:

    Hi
Essentially you are missing a key file in the OS X System folder which is affecting a number of related Apps.
The file is located via the Finder. Here's the navigation:
    System/Library/Frameworks/JavaScriptCore.framework/Versions/A/
The file you need in the A folder is JavaScriptCore
Have a look there and tell me what's in the A folder.
If nothing is there, do you have a backup of your computer system. If you do, you can replace the file easily.
Otherwise, you'll have to reinstall the OS using Archive & Install (if you are not sure how to do that and live near an Apple store, someone at a Genius Bar can help), or get the file from someone who is using OS X Tiger.
