Update playcount in shared library

When i play a song from my shared library the playcount is not updated. Is there a way that it is?
Thanks

But the songs are in my library, but im playing them through another computer. And i only ask because several of my smart playlists have the playcount and/or the last played date as parameters. I can not believe there isn´t a way to alow the playcount to be updated...

  • Any way to update playcount when track is played via shared library?

Hi, I have a laptop and other computer that accesses a shared library on my main PC. This "central" library contains all the podcasts I listen to, and syncs with my iphone. In the past It's been extremely convenient that itunes would delete podcasts for me when they are played from the "central" itunes pc or on the iphone, so I would only have the latest. But now I've started listening to podcasts on computers which connect to the shared library, I'm having to remember which podcasts have been listened to later, and delete or mark as played manually, which is a nuisance.
SO, my question is: is there any option or even a known workaround available that would have the shared library mark a podcast as played (i.e. increase the playcount) when it is played on a computer that connects to it via sharing? Thanks

It doesn't work as I expected. This is what I tested:
Find song that is on both Mac & Win7 machines. Take note of each playcount.
    Mac playcount     Win7 playcount
    2                         7
    Play song on Mac.
    Mac playcount     Win7 playcount
    3                         7
I expected the Win7 playcount to increase to 8, as well, but it didn't.
    Play song on Win7.
    Mac playcount     Win7 playcount
    3                         8
I expected the Mac playcount to increase to 4, but it didn't.
Play song on Mac through homesharing (the Win7 song actually gets played)
    Mac playcount     Win7 playcount
    3                         9
OK, I guess this is all this homesharing feature does. The Win7 song actually got played so its playcount got updated from the Mac.

  • Playcounts aren't incrementing for shared library

I have an iPod Touch that is accessing the home shared library of a Windows machine running iTunes.  When the iPod finishes playing a podcast from a playlist, the playcount doesn't increment.  Is there a way to fix this?

Make sure that your iPod runs the latest software. Usually iTunes 7 will check that automatically when you connect your iPod to your computer.
I had the same problem with my iPod mini a few years ago. But with the latest iPod Software Update this issue has been fixed.

  • Shared Library Error after software update

After a software update check, I downloaded all recommendations which were the following: Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 5, iTunes 7.1, iPhoto Update 6.0.6, Security Update 2006-008 (PPC) 1.0, and Mac OS X Update (PPC) 10.4.9.
But upon restarting, I get 2 popup windows entitled Application Launch Failure. The first says: The application "(null)" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "5>HP Communications><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonSound>". The second reads: The application "EEventManager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "1<EEventManager><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonSound>". I also get one when I try to launch AOL from the desktop. It also has the string with CarbonSound in it.
I tried reinstalling all of the updates and the Security update didn't work at all - which didn't seem to matter since it was an older version (I think??). I then reinstalled the OS update again, but this time I did the combo version. Still no luck. I looked into CarbonSound, but I haven't found anything current or relevant. Any suggestions? Thank you.

  • Application Launch Failures after Update: shared library error

Soon after installing the latest Security and Operating System Updates, I discovered that I could no longer run Microsoft Office. I get the following error message when attempting to open any of the components: Application Launch Failure The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "3<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CommonPanels>" I have tried reinstalling the updates but it hasn't helped. I can't reinstall Office because the same error message comes up when I try to open the Microsoft installer. Can anyone help? I'm stuck. Thanks.

    Again, thanks.
It's somewhat confusing. The folder /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CommonPanels. framework
contains 3 items, a gray screen marked Common Panels with a small arrow pointing to the lower left edge, a folder marked Versions (which holds folders marked A and Current), a folder marked Current (which has a small arrow pointing to the lower left edge and holds a gray screen marked Common Panels and a folder marked Resources) and a folder marked A (which also contains a gray screen marked Common Panels and a folder marked Resources. When I click the gray screen marked Common Panels, I get a message that there is no default application specified to open the document "CommonPanels".
I'm not sure what all that means. Are there too many Common Panel screens? Does the small arrow have any significance? I've also discovered that, in addition to not being able to run Office, I can't install any new applications (same CarbonLib error message). If you think I need to archive and install the System, I can try to do so.

  • Shared Library issues after update yesterday

Yesterday, some systems updates came through and I went ahead and said yes. I didn't really look at what they were. Since then I have been trying to use Panrama, Thinking Home software and Graphic Converter. Every time I try to access these programs, I keep coming up with shared library errors. Mainly it says that they are carbon library errors. I used Time Capsule to go back a week, because I had used both of these programs last week. It didn't change anything. Thinking Home is the current version and Panorama is the previous edition.
Any ideas of how to fix this?

First, what OS are you using? "Carbon Library" makes me think of OS 9
Second, launch Software Update and the go to its Preferences and click on the "Installed Updates" tab to see what updates you installed.
Third, make sure that you have the latest versions of those programs that run with your OS. Your "current" version may not work with the latest OS update. Sometimes it is something in a Security Update that cause problems.

  • Ideas needed on how to update Dimension in the Shared Library

Hello, asides from using ADS file to update dimensions in the shared library, is there anything outthere that can do the job? thanks.

    Hi John,
    Thanks for you response.
Interface tables could work I presume. I use these to build my initial dimensions, but I'd like to be able to update these dimensions in the Shared Library during a lights-off batch process. Any ideas? How about using an etl tool? Many thanks.

  • 10.4.5 update caused  "shared library error:

    shared library error: "?<Microsoft Excel><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPriv_QuickTime>"
This error occurs whenever I try opening any microsoft office program as well as a similar error when I try opening a photo program I have. This started the minute I updated. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a way to undo the last update?

To reinstall a prior version, see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25404. However, before doing that, move the Microsoft stuff from yoor Users folder to desktop (such as prefs and Microsoft Users Data}, delete MS Office, and reinstall it.

  • Update to OS 10.6 yields no "Shared Library"

My housemate just upgraded to OSX 10.6.6 from 10.5. After making this jump, his shared library on my AppleTV has gone missing. He is unable to connect using the "Connect to AppleTV" on the bottom right of the iTunes window, and the AppleTV does not see his computer as a shared library anymore. I recall when I upgraded to SnowLeopard, I had to resync my entire library to the AppleTV (first gen). Any suggestions as to how to get his machine up and running with my AppleTV?

Someone will say "Restore your backup, the backup you made before you upgraded to 10.6.5." Just warning you.
I'm also using 10.6.5 but I've not seen what you're describing. Maybe something is that more specific to your setup is causing it. If you export a QuickTime movie is it also fine or is your video output fine? If it is then you can keep working, because you know that the problem isn't affecting your output.
Going back to 10.6.4 may be the thing to do, and yes you'll need to wipe your drive. So back up your system as it is now just in case the 10.6.4 reinstall fails spectacularly.

  • Unable to see shared library

I searched for and read about a dozen previous posts on this subject but was unable to find a solution. Not only can I not see any shared library but I don't even have a "shared" menu item on either PC as described in the help file. It should show up under the Library>Music heading?
    Both PC's:
    ...can connect to the internet
...can transfer files back and forth
...can see each others "Shared Docs" directory
...have iTunes and Bonjour listed as exceptions in Windows Firewall
...have the latest verions of iTunes and Bonjour
When I point the iTunes Music Folder location on the 'remote' PC to the iTunes Music Folder on the 'host' PC, it finds it, see's it, and then asks if I want to update (the view)? to match? I said yes. Still the same list of songs that are physically on the remote PC and nowhere does it say anything about sharing or give any indication that it is aware of the host library.
    What am I not getting?

"iTunes Sharing, the built-in feature, has nothing to do with pointing your iTunes Music folder setting to a shared folder on another computer. Those are two separate features/capabilities."
Yes, I get that - I was just trying everything I could think of to make it see my shared library.
"do you have Sharing and "Look for shared" turned on in the iTunes Sharing preferences?"
    Yes.
"you want to have your iTunes library using the shared folder on your other computer, you need to use the Add Folder to Library command to get the tracks into the iTunes library listing"
Not quite sure what your getting at here. The help file for sharing the entire library gives 3 simple steps and then says "its name appears in the iTunes window (below Shared) on other local computers (in the same subnet) set up to look for shared libraries." - obviously this is not happening.
The whole reason to share and use the host library is specifically to avoid having to manually add tracks/folders from the remote PC.

  • Please help! Shared Library Error... no applications will open!

    Hi. Major issues!!
My computer was unplugged for 2 weeks (renovations). When I set it up in my new office, none of my applications would open! (Microsoft, Adobe, AOL, etc...) Safari is working.
    I get this error message:
The application "Photoshop" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "5<application><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error:

The application "AppleWorks" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "4<AppleWorks><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
    Here's what I've tried...
I have tried to install combo update 10.3.9. .. didn't work.
My computer was purchased in 2004... just moved to a new house... do not know where my installation dvd is... so to reboot on that is not an option.
I tried disk repair permissions... didn't work!
I opened my log console to view the crash logs... and it appears a lot has crashed... but I can not understand what any of it means!?!
Can anyone help or offer some advice?
Can anyone understand a crash log if I post it?
Please help!?! Taking an online masters course and this is a major dilemma!
    Thanks,
    Lindsay

    Hi Lindsay,
"Can I get one from a mac store? Does it have to be the original one I used when I purchased my mac?"
No, you can no longer purchase 10.3 Panther disks from Apple Stores, online or otherwise. You may however, be able to purchase replacement disks for your computer (if Mac OS 10.3 were the original install disks that came with your mac) by calling Apple and explaining and having the serial number ready of the computer.
If your installation of 10.3 was an upgrade you can purchase retail copies of 10.3 disks online from many resellers, such as on ebay or sites such as FastMac, but be sure to purchase a retail box set and not upgrade or machine specific disks.

  • Adding shared library to project fails

We've created a shared library of content and look & feel updates to Portal 9.2 mp1.
Started by creating a new web and app project. Made sure it works in a test portal.
I followed Floyd Jones instructions on creating shared J2EE libs.
Created a "simple project" copied the files (with exception of the webcontent folder - but all its contents). Created the Manifest file. Saved it as a .war in the modules folder.
Create a new web and app project for testing. When I pull in the library, portal doesn't seem to work following the instructions (Can't find WebLogic J2EE Libraries option to add). So I add the J2EE libraries via the project properties. When I link to the war file, the manifest information does not appear. Instead just the name of the actual .war file.
I can add the versions. Workshop requires me to edit the weblogic.xml file to pull in the library.
But no luck. My suspicion is there's something wrong with the library as it can't read the manifest. When I open the manifest inside the .war file all the information is there.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks...martin

you'll have to physically put all the songs on to the computer that doesnt have it. to do this go to start>my network places and if you are on a network his computer should show up. You'll probably need to enable sharing for your My Music folder (just assuming thats where you music is at) and just copy it over.

  • Problem with JNI in a Solaris shared library

    Hi,
    I have a problem.
I have used JNI in my .dll on Windows & .so on Solaris . I have also used the same JNI code in a .exe on Windows & an executable on Solaris. 3 out of the above 4 combinations work & 1 doesen't. This is an update to the original message -
I have tried both HotSpot & Server JVMs but still see the
    same behavior. I'm using 1.4 .
I'd like to provide more information to those who can help
me. I have a feeling there might be something wrong in my
CC options. Thus you will find below what my CC statement
looks like for one of the files in my project & for the
linking of the final shared library. I also have
provided the output of ldd on my shared library libaicd.so
& for comparison the output of ldd on libjvm.so as that
might provide some usefull information just incase
something looks suspecious & might ring a bell.
