Update Podcast Feed URL

I'm trying to move my podcast feed location. I made the new feed, then used the "itunes:new-feed-url" tag in the original feed.
When I did the podcast ping, it told me the correct (new) url of the feed. But after nearly two weeks of waiting, the feed hasn't updated at the iTunes store.
And I double-checked that the feed validates, and it does.
The original feed can be found at http://www.hopecbc.org/am.xml/.
The new feed can be found at http://www.hopecbc.org/xml_am.xml/.
Feed at iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=263317967
Thanks in advance.

  • I want to update my podcast feed url

    Hello to everybody.
I have submit last day to itunes my podcast url from podomatic.com
I want to ask how I can update my rss url in itunes, if I want to leave podomatic.com and go to another service?
And last.. can you suggest me some other cool service?
My reason whcih I want to leave podomatic.com is because in itunes podcast the "website" link goes to podomatic.com channel and not to my personal webpage
    Regards,
    Haris

Please see this page which explains in detail how you do this:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move
You may very likely find you can't do this with Podomatic which will leave you with emailing supposrt as the only option. Don't remove your podomatic feed until you have the redirection safely up and running.

  • Alternate ways to update RSS Feed URL in iTunes Store

    Hey all,
Ok, so I am having issues with updating my iTunes Store RSS URL. Here's the storyin a nutshell. If any of you have experience with this i would really appreciate some help, because I have been stuck for week now.
I started my podcast using Podbean.com as a host, and when I first submitted my podcast URL to th iTunes Store, I used the RSS URL that podbean gave me which was http://unfilteredandrew.podbean.com/feed/. A few weeks later, I decided to move my host to SquareSpace, therefore I have a new RSS URL for the podcast now. I understand the directions frovided by Apple on how to change the URL by inserting the <itunes:new-feed-url> tags into the XML file. This is where the problem lies. Podbean.com is not able to instert this tag into my the XML file (its a long story, I have been dealing with thier incompitent customer service for weeks now). Let's assume for now that this method is not optional.
SO my question to you guys is - is there another way to update the RSS URL feed? Currently the iTunes Store see's  http://unfilteredandrew.podbean.com/feed/as my RSS feed, but I want it to see the NEW one which is: http://andrewunfiltered.squarespace.com/podcast?format=rss
    Please help!!
    Kellen

Ignore the 301 redirect - this is really intended for other rss readers than iTunes.
If you are creating a feed somehow and submitting that to Feedburner, which then passes it on to iTunes, and if you can add the tag to that original feed it will also appear in the Feedburner feed and the redirect will take place.
If you are creating the feed only in Feedburner by entering details, there you cannot directly edit the feed - I don't know whether Feedburner provides a way of doing this: most online podcast creation services don't.
If that's the case then you will have to abaondon the old feed. You should attempt to get the old podcast removed from the Store - instructions here (though there have been a number of reports that iTunes Store staff are simply not bothering to carry out this process) - and submit your new feed as an entirely new podcast. You will probably need to make a small change in the title, as a bug in the Store software may tell you that the podcast has already been submitted: and of course you will lose any subscribers or comments.

  • Could I link my existing youtube videos (or Facebook, Myspace, Vimeo, Flickr duplicates) in a field somewhere and link to them (after initially submitting a podcast feed URL)?

I've found podbean.com, and will explore podomatic.com, for submitting video podcasts to the iTunes Directory. But now that I've found these RSS feed URL generators (and will look for others) is there a way within these websites or in blogs to link to my existing videos on Facebook, for example, and the video appear in the iTunes Store?

I'm afraid not - please see my response to your post in the other thread.

  • Podcast feed not updating, Podcast feed not updating

    Hi,
For a few months my podcast hasn't been updating on iTunes.  I can't re-submit the feed as it says it already exists. What do I do?
    Thanks,
    Mike

It's not really possible to comment unless you would like to publish the URLs of both your feed and the Store page - this latter can be found by control-clicking on the podcast image (or where it should be) - and choosing 'Copy link'.  Please include the http:// in both cases to make the links clickable.

  • How often does iTunes store update podcast feed?

I've been producing a weekly podcast for six weeks now. My mp3s are hosted on archive.org and I post them on Tumblr. Feedburner pulls the tumblr feed, and iTunes pulls the Feedburner feed. Feedburner usually updates within ten minutes of any new posts or changes I make on Tumblr, and usually, the iTunes podcast page updates just as quickly. Then sometimes, like today, hours go by and I see no update in iTunes and I get paranoid that I did something wrong and wonder if I need to delete and start over again.
I follow the same formula every week with my posts, so I don't believe anything I've done is incorrect (I'm always careful remember to remove the "s" from "https://" which gave me problems when I first started). I just have no idea how often the iTunes Store actually attempts to update. Is there a standard time, or range of time?
Here is my Feedburner page: http://feeds.feedburner.com/YaxzonJackson
Here is the iTunes podcast page: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/yaxzon-jackson/id914021875

When you add a new episode to your feed and upload it, it appears immediately for subscribers because their iTunes application reads the feed directly and the Store is not involved.
However because of the huge number of podcasts in the Store (thousands) the Store caches the feed and checks it for updates periodically. For this reason it usually takes 1-2 days for new episodes to appear in the Store: sometimes it can be less, and occasionally the whole process seems to get stuck and it can take several days.
You podcast is up to date in the Store with an episode posted yesterday; if you've been used to quicker results you've just been lucky; you can't rely on it always happening.

  • Podcast Feed Error Message "We Require that feeds include a title"

I am attempting to submit podcasts to the itunes directory and I get the following error message when I provide my Podcast Feed URL.
"We Require that feeds include a title"
    My Podcast URL:
    http://web.me.com/tommyboltz/TomorrowsSports_Page_Today/Daily_SportsPicks/rss.xml
I tested this URL by going to ADVANCED on the itunes menu and it worked fine.
PLease help. I want my Podcast to show up in the itunes store.

Yep, there is something missing there, but perhaps it is because you have entered the same data twice (or in the wrong place).
If you look at a Feed, for example in Safari, there is a line at the top which is (of course) a title. I have one at feed://www.extensions.in.th/ext_link.xml and when you link to that, you get "Macs in Bangkok - Information" on the top line. This information is entered in the "Channel" section, and I have <title>eXtensions: Macs in Bangkok - Information</title>
What I see with your however, is "feed://www.blacklightaudio.com/Site/Podcast/rss.xml" instead of descriptive information. If you go back into the application you created it in (or even a text editor) you will see the relevant line.

As an additional point, I see that the links themselves within each item are not right. They show with a % sign between the parts, which I am pretty sure is an indication that there are spaces that should not exist.

  • Submitted Podcast Feed & iTunes Rejected...

    Hello, iTunes helpers,
I submitted an RSS2 feed to iTunes for my podcast to be listed, but it was rejected with unknown reason. I think I did everything right. Could someone please tell me what SPECIFICALLY went wrong?
    http://djmoradio.podomatic.com/rss2.xml
I tried to resubmit, but it says "The feed has already been submitted." How do I submit my feed again & NOT get rejected?
It works. I can access my feed by manually typing the URL & subscribing to it. The thing is, I want to make it easier for people to search for me instead of just the URL. You know, make it official?
    Thanks,
    - DJ Mo
    Podcast Feed URL: http://djmoradio.podomatic.com/rss2.xml

It's rather unhelpful that when they reject a feed they don't give a reason. Common reasons for rejection are technical problems (doesn't seem to be the case here), offensive, illegal or explicit content (doesn't seem to be the case either) or copyright concerns. I haven't listened to your material, but its possible that they may be concerned that you are using copyright recordings without either the written consent of the copyright owners or the possession of a valid podcast licence from a recognized authority.
If you are able to clear up whatever the problem is you may well find that you get the 'already submitted' error - this appears to be a bug in the Store. The workaround is to make a small change to the title and to the feed filename, so that it appears to be a new podcast (you can always change the title back afterwards).

  • How do I update podcast title, artist & artwork without affecting URL or subscribers?

Is this possible? I currently produce an iTunes podcast entitled "The Drop" (https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-drop/id491023811).  The listing is currently as "The Drop" by "15 STEP & mass7." I'd like to update this listing to "The Drop Radio" by "The Drop." However, if this creates a URL change or affects subscribers, I'd simply want to change the artist to "The Drop." I'd also like to replace the artwork, and update our description.
Just to reiterate - I would need to do all of these without affecting our URL, subscribers, and ideally the ability to search for us on iTunes and google. Again, not sure if this is possible, but any insight is much appreciated.  Our feed URL is thedropoffical.podomatic.com.
Also, is it possible that I can simply make these changes on my host's site? If so, again would that change or effect our current URL, subscribers, and ability to search for our show?
    Thanks!

You can only make changes in Podomatic, which creates your podcast and feed. The feed URL is
    http://thedropoffical.podomatic.com/rss2.xml
so it looks as if 'thedropofficial' is the login, and the feed URL won't be changed if you change the title. If Podomatic have any support you should check this with them.
Assuming that changing the title doesn't change the URL you can change the description and title by going to wherever in Podomatic you entered them in the first place and changing them there. You can change the image but you should give the new image a different filename.
Changes will take a couple of days to show in the Store - the image will probably take some days to change - subscribers will see the changes immediately and will not be adversely affected by them.

  • I inadvertently have two Apple Podcast ID's on ONE feed URL

    Hi,
My first post here... I assume Apple support reads this...
I updated our old Podcast on the Book of Acts with a new one on the Book of John, but I used the same feed URL namely, http://www.raystedman.org/messages.rss .
The new podcast is working fine EXCEPT when I go the the iTunes Store to find and subscribe to it by typing in Ray Stedman - the subscribe page is the OLD Acts page (which should be gone) and not the new First John page.
What's interesting is that if you click the Acts Podcast subscribe icon you get the FIrst John Podcast (and you get the correct FIrst John intro page when you click on the circled arrow to the left of the name "Expository Studies in the Book of Acts)!
I can't figure out how to change this... Again, I have two Podcast ID's for one feed URL - this isn't right, right??
Does Apple support have to fix this problem?
The two Podcast ID's are: 74271389 and 218826642

  • ITunes podcast feed not updating

My podcast feed was broken in January. It is now working again, but iTunes is not picking it up. Do I have to do something to re-start it and get it working again?
When I go to iTunes and find my podcast, it shows all the most recent podcasts up until late January (and none of the recent ones). (please note I have two podcasts which appear identical - one is mp3 and one is m4a feed...I plan to delete the m4a feed asap)
Interestingly, when I subscribe to the feed in the iTunes store,it shows only then ONE most recent podcast (which doesn't even appear in the list as described in the previous paragraph).
The feed address is: http://www.wilymanager.com/feed/podcast/?wpmfeedkey=1;292f771b94206b1dd91b4a301f 03c5d6
    Would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Sue

The feed you link to is entitled 'Wily Manager MP3 Feed'. Searching on 'Wily Manager' in the Store brings up two podcasts, both called only 'Wily Manager'.
The one at http://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/wily-manager/id351213931 is looking for a feed at:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/wilymanager/mp3
The one at http://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/wily-manager/id351231957 is looking for a feed at:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/wilymanager/m4a
There is no feed at either of these addresses: basically you've been updating a feed at the wrong address. Since iTunes cannot find a feed in either case it cannot update the Store page, and subscribing produces an error.
I don't know how you've got to the feed with the complex URL but it's not being used by iTunes. You need to be able to go back to having a feed at the URL I give above.

  • My podcast feed stopped being updated in iTunes

The same podcast feed that I've been using for three years recently stopped working in iTunes, though it's still working correctly in other tests that I've run. The feed corresponds to a blog, and my blogreader shows the updated content correctly (including the podcast attachment). Yet it won't update in iTunes.
I use Feedburner and its Smartcast settings to format correctly for iTunes. As I mentioned, this is the same setup I've used for almost 100 podcast episodes spanning almost three years. I don't believe anything there has changed.
    Other steps I've tried...
    1. Subscribing to the feed directly using the Advanced menu, entering the feed directly. The subscription works (so does subscribing through the iTunes Podcast Directory).
    2. Pinging the podcast in iTunes. That also worked, as I received a successful response ("Podcast Ping Received")
    3. Running my feed through www.feedvalidator.org. This also worked, but with a message that may be helpful:
    Congratulations!
[Valid RSS] This is a valid RSS feed.
    Recommendations
This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.
    * line 2, column 4336: description should not contain relative URL references: img/mp3.jpg (17 occurrences)
    ... italic;">-Mark</span></a></description><thr:total xmlns:t ...
    ^
    * line 2, column 11586: itunes:summary should not contain HTML: & (16 occurrences)
    ... 0 minutes. I think you'll like it. -Mark</itunes:summary><itunes:keyword ...
    ^
    * line 2, column 27026: itunes:subtitle should not contain HTML: &
... mes. It always helps to know those thing</itunes:subtitle><itunes:author ...

The things you've listed shouldn't prevent the podcast episodes from showing (though you shouldn't put HTML in the descriptions and summary because iTunes doesn't render it, it just dislays the HTML which looks messy).
FeedValidator can flag a file as valid even though it contains errors which affect iTunes: for example a missing <enclosure> tag tends not to be picked up, though without it iTunes won't see the episode.
Do you feel like posting the URL of your feed file? (Please include the http://.)

  • My podcast feed won't update on iTunes. Why? And what can I do to fix?

I do a weekly podcast and hasn't updated since Sept 21st for whatever reason. Even though the rss feed shows the new episode with the enclosure link, it's not updated on iTunes. I use libsyn.com to upload the audio files and then use the enclosure links they supply me with to put on a small blog post in blogger. I then send the blogger RSS feed to send to iTunes, which has worked for 31 episodes... until now, when I've tried to upload episode 32.
The blogger feed I use in feedburner is: http://muaythaiguypodcast.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?=rss
The feedburner feed I send to iTunes is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/lfqKK
I tried changing the feedburner feed, but that didn't do anything. I'm also in the process of redesigning my website using wordpress, and have thought about using powerpress to keep the podcast updated. Would that be a good idea?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

You have sent iTunes to the wrong feed URL. There is a feed at the URL you quote, but your iTunes Store page, which is at
    https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/muay-thai-guy-podcast/id636798781
is looking for a feed at
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/lfqKK
There is no file at that address. So now you have painted yourself into a corner. I would guess that you aren't able to get a feed up at that Feedburner address? If you can, then you need to add the 'new-feed-url' tag to (or the original feed) as described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move
If you are unable to do that your only option (other than abandoning the podcast page and re-submitting as entirely new podcast) is to email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to change the Store to the correct URL - give them the URL of the Store page and both feed URLs. I can't guarantee they will do this, but it's quite possible and would solve your problem.
If you do have to resubmit, you will have to change the title slightly or you will be told the feed has already been submitted.

The feed validates, the source code shows all of the necessary header info for itunes - what am I missing... why isn't it updating?
    Thanks for your help!

iTunes is looking for a feed at
    https://www.calvaryqc.org/xml/podcasts/02080425.xml
and not finding it. The connection is a secure one - https - and when tested in FireFox reports that it uses an untrusted certificate: but even over-riding that shows that there is no file at that address. It is to that feed that you have to add the 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag (it's present on the feed you link to but simply links to the same feed so it's redundant).
Unless you can place a feed at the URL I quote above which iTunes can read (as it must have done once as there are episode showing in the Store, albeit rather out-of-date) you will not be able to redirect iTunes to your new feed.
