  • What ports does iTunes update podcasts over?

    Hiho
Lately I never succed in updating podcasts while using my 3G data ISP. I suspect they block ports. What ports does iTunes require to download new podcasts?
    /peter

    Hi Jan,
I am sure the Apple Doc is right.
The Doc was originally written for iChat 2 when you could only chat 1-1
Obviously with an eye on the future, and of the potential for the data traffic to get busy in some locations, allows for the extra ports allocation.
If you are in a 4 way Video chat then that would be 16 ports.
Now in iChat 2 Audio chats used to make use of the same four ports. But as 10 way Audio chats are possible it seems likely this has been changed in multichats to use all twenty ports.
    ( I am also sure that 16384-16403 is 20 ports )

You don't update itunes on your phone, you update itunes on your computer.

I think figured out what is going on here... If you have set your Windows OS time manually, Apple iTunes will not honor the time you set in Windows XP...
In my case, I had not applied the Windows update that changes the Daylight savings rules. No big deal I thought... I can easily correct the time manually. Well... iTunes will not like it if you do that. You have to have your daylight savings rules set correctly on the PC. Microsoft has a free program called TZEdit that will let you adjust the DST boundaries.
Once I set the rules correctly and then set my time keeping back to "Automatic" it fixed it. Hope this helps...

Can the Adobe Update Server be used to download and install updates to Creative Cloud apps automatically without admin or user intervention?
I've noticed there is a Adobe Remote Update Manager, but I would rather all the updates and installs happen in the background.

  • ITunes stops updating podcasts / iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?

    Hi,
My iTunes is set to automatically update podcasts and keep the last five episodes of each podcast.
However, iTunes appears to stop updating podcasts after several (five?) unwatched episodes and gives me an exclamation mark in the podcast overview. Clicking on that, I get the message: "iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?"
This is not what I intend... and not  what I  told iTunes to do... (at least this my reading of the below settings)
This stopping is rather less then ideal: (1) if I am going away for two weeks, which I often do, I would still like to have the last five days of news, not the last five days of news back from the date I left, (2) I need to click update for approx. 20 podcast on regular basis, (3) my iPhone is synced to iTunes as soon as I come home, if iTunes does not have the podcasts downloaded, they are not copied over to the iPhone, and the iPhone will attempt to download the episodes via 3G next time I play the podcast on the go, (4) I am mainly using iTunes functions, such as smart playlists and podcasts, through another app (Plex, a fullscreen media player) and it is a pain to have to go to iTunes to manually do things. That is why this bothering me...
How can I get iTunes to behave as intended? (From reading through old posts I know that there is a Doug script adressing this problem, which I have just set up, but I would prefer to use internal settings if possible... maybe I am just missing a setting)
    Thank you for your ideas!

Thank you for the response, Roger!
OK, that's how it is then.
The iTunes podcasts settings should be reworded in that case because it suggest something different from what it does. And, of course, it would be ideal for Apple to make this more flexible and allow users to set up their podcast downloads in their way and not be so motherly (c'mon, Apple, your users are not as dumb as you think, and they have uncapped Internet connections these days anyway)...
Btw., for anyone interested, this is external script I am using now:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=updateexpiredpodcasts
Including the "cron job" setup here:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/2011/12/updated-update-expired-podcasts-v2-2-and-l aunchd-project/
Cannot tell how well it works because I have just set it up, other members of the forum say it works for them...
If anyone knows of in-app solutions, please share...

  • ITunes resets my PC when it begins updating podcasts

I have used iTunes with zero issues for a long time on my computer. No hardware changes have been made. No software changes have been made that I know of but things get updated more automatically these days, and perhaps there has been some minor change.
When I launch iTunes, it starts fine. I go to podcasts and right click on a podcast (any) and select "update podcast"... within 10-15 seconds, iTunes will freeze for a moment, and then CLICK my PC completely shuts off. I have to hard restart it.
Has anyone had this problem before? It's very repeatable and I miss iTunes.
AMD, Asus, 1Gig Ram   Windows 2000

eeek. there was a hassle with video podcasts and QT 7.0.4 where if a file was corrupted in just the right/wrong way it could crash itunes ... but i hadn't seen one crash an entire PC like that before. (i might have missed reports though.)
is it possible to identify which podcast seemed to be causing you the hassle? or does it seem to happen any time you download any podcast?

  • HT1399 Installed ITunes 11.1.0.126 now updating podcasts no longer works correctly.

I use ITunes for my subscribed podcasts.  The daily podcasts I get comes in three separate podcasts for the whole show and gives me the option to download all shows that I have not downloaded in the past.   Hour 1, 2 & 3 would update when I selected to update podcast for all shows that had not been downloaded in the past.  Now with the ITunes update, ITunes only updates the latest podcast which is hour 3 of the most recent show.  It no longer allows me to get all three hours nor previous shows that I have not downloaded.  I have tried all the various settings and nothing works.  I am not sure why ITunes was made to work less than before, but I don't know how to get it to work properly again like it used to.  If anyone can assist, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm having the exact same issue with this version of iTunes.
I have podcasts dating all the way back to 2006, my library is unmanageable now.
With a previous unrelated iTunes issue, the "repair" option in the "Add or Remove programs" (under Windows XP) fixed my problem but not this this time.

  • Update data automatically in sql server 2005 based on condition proplem

Hi guys i have problem I have two table
    First one is
    Second One is Vacation
as relation one to many (vacation has foreign key of Contract No OF Table Contract)
what i need is to update Contract table with field status =Finish where start vacation date >end contract Date
How i do that in sql server 2005 to make update automatically
    Ex
    contract table
    status             nvarchar(20)
    end contract    date time
    vacation table
    start vacation date time
    end vacation date time
    start vacation date is 23/10/2014
    and End
    is 26/10/2014
Now not update status in contract table to finish because vacation date start is less from end contract
but when date today is 27/10/2014 update contract table field status to finish
    automatically with sql server 2005
How i do that condition to make update to data automatically based on changing on date
    Update statement i need is
update Contract set status = finish where start vacation>end contract
but problem how i write this statement to update data automatically based on date today

Please post DDL, so that people do not have to guess what the keys, constraints, Declarative Referential Integrity, data types, etc. in your schema are. Learn how to follow ISO-11179 data element naming conventions and formatting rules. Temporal data should
use ISO-8601 formats. You failed again. Code should be in Standard SQL as much as possible and not local dialect.
This is minimal polite behavior on SQL forums. Now we have to write the DDL that you did not bother with! What you did post was wrong! There is no key or constraints. There is no generic “status” in RDBMS; a "<something in particular>_status"
is a state of being, so it needs a temporal duration. The correct idiom for this data model is:
    CREATE TABLE Vacations
(vacation_contract CHAR(15) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
     vacation_start_date DATE NOT NULL,
     vacation_end_date DATE,
     CHECK(vacation_start_date < vacation_end_date),
Oh, a field is nothing like a column. You need to read a basic SQL or RDBMS book; you do not know the basics.

  • Unable to update podcasts in iTunes 9 if all files are gone

I updated to iTunes 9 today. I have discovered that if there are no episodes in a podcast, then I can't update the podcast. I have to leave at least one episode in there and then I can right click and select update podcast. If I delete all episodes and right-click, the only two selections are now "Show description" and "delete".
Prior to this, once I deleted all episodes, I could still right click and select update podcast. Is this a real bug and if so, should I downgrade to the last version of iTunes before this update?
My thanks goes to anyone who can assist with this enquiry.

I immediately noticed this same problem after upgrading to iTunes 9. The only workaround that I've found is to click Refresh in the bottom right corner, but this updates all of my podcasts.
Also, I'm still trying to figure out the re-structured Podcasts tab. I want to sync all episodes of all podcasts to all of the appropriate Smart Playlists on my iPod, but the only way to do that is to use the "selected podcasts" option rather than "all podcasts" like I did in iTunes 8. That does not make sense to me.
It doesn't seem that Apple thought through these podcast changes very well for iTunes 9.

  • Error updating podcasts and itunes store

I upgraded to iTunes 8.0 recently and after that, even though i have internet access, i can not get to the iTunes store and update podcasts. please help

    Hello a.mcintyre.rn,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with the Music, Podcasts, and iTunes Store app on your iPad.
I recommend following these steps for an issue like this (you can skip 4 because it does not relate to the issue you are experiencing and any other steps you may have taken):
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
If you get to step 5, I recommend backing up your iPad before performing the restore:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Manually updating podcasts in 7

I may be missing something but I can't find how to manually update podcasts in 7.

This doesn't work for me. I manually add podcasts (i hate syncing) but they do not appear under the "music" or the "podcasts" icon. They used to appear, along with music, under my ipod icon in itunes6. This served as the ipod's library and i could manage everything from there.
If I manually add podcast to my ipod icon (I can't to the podcast or music icon) it disappears into the ether. The podcast is transfered to my ipod but I can't find it through itunes. If I add it to say a "podcast" playlist i can access it there, but deleting it from the playlist does not delete it from the library.
I am at a loss as to how to find these files with itunes7 as I usually do delete them after listening to them. Unless I go back to itunes6 i'm going to end up with a lot of garbage on my ipod i can't easily delete.
If anyone has a clue to this I'd love to hear it.

  • Datastore: Update data automatically functionality

    Hi Experts,
I have a datastore object DSO1(target) that is fed from another datastore Object DSO2(source).
The source DSO (dso2) is fed from table in R/3 via an infopackage and DTP (BI 7.0 model).
The target DSO (dso1) gets data from the source via an update rule (BW3.5).
I checked the following settings on DSO2 (source)
    <b>"Update data automatically"
    "activate data automatically" </b>
<b>When i run a manual load on DSO2 (source) the request that is loaded gets updated automatically into the target - DSO1 and gets activated automatically - as expected
    </b>
However <b>when I run a process chain </b>which uses the same infopackage and DTP to load a similar request into the source-DSO2 the corresponding request <u><b>DOES NOT</b></b></u> <b>get updated automatically</b>. I have to rt click on DSO2 and trigger an update via "Update data in 3.x data target" to load the request.
Can anyone please tell me why the request would update for manual loads and not loads via process chain.
I used the process type "Update Data Store Object Data (Further Update) " to update the data but i don't want to do this because we are planning to keep the target ODS1 in a different process chain.
I can schedule an infopackage in the other process chain to load data from source DSO but it is extremely important that every time a request gets loaded into source DSO it gets updated into the target DSO. This is because of certain delta issues we are having when we try to load multiple requests from source into target at a time.
"Get data by request" on a 7.0 DTP won't work either since every execution of DTP gets only one request at a time. If we want to load multiple requests we need to execute DTP multiple times (cannot be automated!).
    Helpful answers will be rewarded.
    MM<u></u>

    Hi,
I guess you could create a Metachain and create the dependency between the 2 process chain. The you'll also be able to include the variant that you need in the metachain itself.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Ashish

  • Update Data Automatically

I have created a new ODS. In the ODS, the "Update Data Automatically" and "Activate Data Automatically" indicators are checked...I then created a Cube linked to this ODS.
Because of the Update Data Automatically indicator is checked in ODS,so system will then update the data automatically up to the data target (InfoCube).
Question is because I am now using the Transformation between InfoCube and ODS, does the update data will still happened automatically?
Or I have to create the DTP and schedule the Process Chain?

    Hi.....
"Activate Data Automatically" indicators is generally ignored while using a Process chain.......
    Solution -
Use process chains to automate data activation.
You are right........Update Data Automatically indicator is checked in ODS,so system will then update the data automatically up to the data target (InfoCube).....................But this settings are in most cases ignored ,becoz in a prod environment process chains are used........to load DSO......when process chains are used  both the settings..Update Data Automatically" and "Activate Data Automatically"........are ignorde.......
    So create a DTP........
    Hope this helps......
