Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.66 15" from 2009 with 8GB Ram
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
Just came back from an acquaintance trying to upgrade from 10.6.8 to Yosemite. Her MacBook is listed as supported and she has an Apple ID.
Starting Software Update or AppStore advertises Yosemite as available.
Clicking the upgrade or load button makes the button inactive but nothing happens.
Next I installed a trial of Little Snitch to see if there was any traffic, but there is no visible download activity. To make sure it wasn't the fault of her internet setup I tried once again using my iPhone as WiFi station. Still no download.
Closing and reopening the App Store makes the update available again with the same effect as above.

  • I can't update iPhoto from 8.0.1 to newer version

    Hello everybody.
I have the iPhoto 09 version 8.0.1 (397), and when I start it, check the updater and show that there's updater to do. Click to update, and then when the software updater check the updater it say me that there isn't any newer version.
I'm trying to install it manually (8.0.2 and even 8.1 version) and it says that this updater is't for my version of iPhoto
    What can I do?
    Thanks !

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
Have you "cleaned up" your applications folder by moving iPhoto into a folder?
That will do it - all of the iLife applications need to be loose in the Applications folder - at the root lever - where they were originally installed for the updater to work - move them back and they will update (8.1.0 is the latest)
    And always backup before updating

  • Republish to Flickr from LR4 posts as new photos instead of updates them (only one set, not all)

I have a single set on Flickr that I cannot republish updates to from LR4 - republishing a modified photo posts it as a new photo.  All other sets seem to work fine.  I use the "built-in" Flickr plugin and LR4.3 with a Flickr Pro account.  This issue started with LR4.2 when I got my Nikon D800.  I've tried just about everything I can think of and have been searching for any similar problems for months and decided to finally ask for help myself.
Back in October I created a set of an event, and published the photos to Flickr without issue.  A week later I wanted to republish a few photos and noticed that they instead published to the set as new.  If I mark to republish, yet another copy is posted as new.  After some testing, this is only for images in this one particular set - any other images in any other set update their existing version as expected.
After a while I began to wonder if the machine tag I added was causing it (active:event=) so I removed the tag from the image on both sides and tried to republish again with the same results.
Naturally I delete the new copy of the image from Flickr which then dissassociates the LR photo with anything on Flickr.  I found another (cludgy) plugin which can associate photos in LR with photos on Flickr and that fixes the link between the two.  But again, republish from LR and a new copy shows up.
Any ideas?  This has been driving me nuts.  I haven't found any special permissions or settings on the Flickr set or within LR which would explain why this one set is affected and no others.  I don't want to delete the set on Flickr and lose the history.  I'm trying to avoid having to manually update the images on Flickr where I would also have to manually update the titles, etc.

This has happened for LR4.2, 4.3, 4.4, and now LR5.  The seemingly random nature of this bug is irratating.  Last week while still on LR4.4 I published a photo, changed it, and was able to republish it without issue.  Today on LR5 I published a set and went to republish a handful of photos only for them to be added as new photos to the set.  LR5 indicated that they were photos to republish and not new ones to the set.

  • How much is teacher/student version upgrade from LR4?

How much is teacher/student version upgrade from LR4?

The "teacher/student version" is a special offer for a full version purchase. The software is in fact identical to the regular full version being sold. Once you have purchased the license key it is fully functional and allows you to upgrade at the normal upgrade price.
If you still qualify for the "teacher/student version" you can purchase another full license for LR 5 at the discounted price which is the same as the upgrade price.

You can't install 9.2.1 or earlier on any Mac that is only Mac OS X bootable. In fact you need to use the restore disks which came with those Macs to install 9.2.2 on those Macs. 8.6 is only possible to install on Macs which came with 8.6 or earlier. The 9.1 disk may be useful for your 1999 PowerMac G4, but won't be of any use for a 2006 Powerbook G4.

  • Error: Unable to Update Catalog while upgrading catalog from lr4 to lr5

I just recently installed Lightroom 5 from my new Creative Cloud account.  While accessing for the first time, it asks me to upgrade the lr4 catalog to lr5.  Everytime I run the process, I eceive the following message below.
I tried optimizing the lr4 catalog, but that diddn't work.  I saw another post saying to try upgrading the lr4 backup catalog, but that didn't work also.
Any suggestions?  Please help since I a newer user to Lightroom.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Try this:
Make sure this checkbox is checked in the System/Sharing preference pane:
If it is, uncheck it and then recheck and try ordering again.

Upgraded from LR4 to LR5.7. Apparently successful download on iMac27" 5K running OS X10.2. Collections that were clear in LR4 appear badly blurred when opened in LR5.7.  What's wrong?

    Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions.
John: I back up the catalogue (and optimize/check its integrity) every time I quit Lightroom - which is why excluding it from Time Machine isn't the end of the world. I did rename the catalogue early on in my troubleshooting process - as you say, I didn't like the fact I felt out of control of it.
I tried synchronizing a folder that had some flags: when I'd done there were three flags in the folder. (I have unclicked - and clicked and then unclicked - the 'unsaved metadata' checkbox in View Options: as I say, Lightroom shouldn't be displaying these flags at all.)
Rob: Thanks for understanding why I'm fretting! I've checked my XMP sidecars, as you suggest, and they have read and write privileges. I then checked the last-modified date on the XMPs that came up with flags after I'd synchronized that folder. One of them displayed the time I'd just synchronized the folder (it's one I haven't worked on apart from applying a blanket preset in LR2, and then a blanket update to PV2012 in LR4, as I've done to all the images I haven't yet worked on individually); the other two showed the time (I presume) I worked on them yesterday. I selected these three and applied command-S: they then showed, correctly, that they'd been modified a minute before. So far, that folder's now flag-free. (As I said in my original post, the flags sometimes do seem to vanish if I save enough times - and they're unpredictable, not necessarily appearing on the same images in a collection or folder as before I do I group save/clear conflict.)
Mollysnoot: I don't see how the Mac OS would be doing this (although who knows - I'm not a software expert). I don't have any other programs open that can modify images. And since these flags can reappear instantly when I've dealt with the conflict - before I've had time to take a breath, even - I don't think they represent any actual modifications.

I'm using a Mac.  I "upgraded" to LR5 from LR4.  I do not want to be a member of the "Creative Cloud".  I just want to use the software I purchased, specifically to upload to my SmugMug account.  Is there a way to use an add-on to do this?  Aperture and LR4 were easy but I'm finding it impossible without subscribing to CC.

Sorry, maybe I don't understand, but why do you feel compelled to subscribe to CC if you already have a permanent Lightroom 5 licence?
For the SmugMug plugin, a simple Google search ("smugmug lightroom plugin") gives this link to download the plugin:  http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/121321
Another way is to click the button "Find more services online..." in the the Publish Service section of Lightroom, and to search for SmugMug in the Adobe Add-ons portal; you will find a link to the latest plugin: https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/1755

  • Is it possible to send a DNG to from LR4 to PS6 as a TIFF? of so how do I do it?

When I use Topaz plug-ins in LR4, the image comes back with only 10% of  the pixels remaining. It has been suggested by Topaz Help to transfer images to PS6 from LR4 without LR4 adjustments and see if it still happens. Unfortunately my DNG files cannot be sent to PS6 without adjustments. Is it possible to convert DNG files to TIFF so the option becomes available to send it to PS6 without adjustments?

I am not certain what you mean by "pixels of 1.7 by 1.1" but if you mean 1700x1100 pixels, that is indeed 1.87 Megapixels. I personally think the straight pixel dimensions are a better (cetainly a more usual) way to express this kind of thing.
A 1.87 Megapixel  image (of these dimensions) opened into Photoshop reports its theoretical document size on the status bar, if set for that: when I tried this just now, it reported "5.35M".
It is important to note: this is a notional saving filesize without compression, in Megabytes, and does not refer to Megapixels (really they should make this clearer, by putting "Mp" or "Mb" explicitly, instead of the more confusing "M").
I don't see how you would have reached 9 Megabytes with such a picture unless there are additional layers present, and/or, resampled pixel numbers.
If you have somehow reached 9 Megapixels from those starting dimensions, the picture must have been resampled somehow along the line, to give it more pixels (often, this comes of altering resolution while preserving print size - either in "image size", or in Crop).
Another display option for the same document status bar, shows pixel dimensions - which will confirm this for sure.
Depending on your printing process, I would suggest you take 180ppi as more or less the coarsest acceptable for printing on paper, and perhaps 90ppi for printing on canvas. These figures accept some crudeness in return for maximum size, but still most likely look OK for general purposes.
1700px wide at 180ppi is 9.44 inches wide (paper) and at 90ppi is 18.88 inches wide (canvas). The other dimension correspondingly smaller. Many may feel this is pushing things a bit, but if you can make a real sample you may be pleasantly surprised - to some extent it depends on the nature of the image, and on what it is being printed for.
If feeling more picky, you might instead compromise on say 240 ppi (still in a context where you don't have a lot of pixels available) which gives you a paper printing size of  7 inches wide in, typically, good quality.
So that tells you the printing size range your image will support. The image can be upsampled to a specific higher PPI (and correspondingly larger pixel dimensions) for printing purposes, at that size - but this does not add further to the enlargeability of the picture detail it contains - only present that at its technical best, and allow you to tweak that further with sharpening, for the physical size selected.

  • Hi My grandparents just bought an iPod Touch for me from Dubai, UAE. I can't see any facetime on the home screen nor in the settings. I've read that it's not possible. But is it possible if I get my OS updated again from India?

There is no way you can activate Facetime on an iPod touch purchased in the UAE. The government there required Apple to lock off Facetime at the hardware level and there's no way to unlock it. Reinstalling iOS, regardless of country, will not help. If you want Facetime, you will need to sell your UAE-version iPod and buy one there in India.
