Update problem... during restart, locked up!

Help! During the latest security update iTunes downloaded and installed the update and during the iPhone restart issued an alert that it couldn't connect with the iPhone because I need to enter the passcode... but the screen on the phone only has the slide for emergency calls as the only input. I have tried restarting the iMac, the iPhone and still am stuck by not being able to enter the passcode. Anybody have any ideas how to get me to the passcode screen?

Ok, now I'm wondering if this post is just too basic to get a reply, or no answer is available... any way to just reset my iPhone back to factory presets or completely erase all contents and reactivate it? Or anyone have a customer support phone number where I can talk to a tech to help fix this problem?

• Problems during restart

during restart   the screen goes blck and you can see script running.  It started after osx update.

Hi, Chris. I suspect the problem is the KVM switch — especially if it's turned off altogether or set to run the monitor off the HP laptop when you turn your Powerbook on. The Powerbook is detecting a device connected to its video-out port, but the device doesn't look like a monitor to the PB. I don't know why it doesn't, particularly if the switch is on and set to connect the monitor to the PB, not the HP. But that's my guess about what's going on, and in your shoes I would just keep doing as you've been doing — it seems a pretty simple and undemanding workaround. Or else I'd let the Powerbook sleep, instead of shutting it down, when I wasn't using it. Do you have trouble getting the monitor up and running when waking the PB from sleep?

I also have this problem after installing version 5.0.0.508. It appears that I no longer have an option for locking the keyboard. When I select Options/Screen/Keyboard and select Left Side Convienence Key Options it does not show up in the list of selectable options.

• Excisie duty updation problem during RG1 register update

Dear All,
During updation od RG1 register, excise duty has not been updated in Rg1 register. Transactional entry updated but Exice duty/ ecs/ CEss is showing zero value.
It happened with two materials only. all excise master data has been maintained for that material.
What will be reason ?
Your valuable reply is appreciated. Thanks
Regards
Mangesh

Hi Mangesh,
I hope you are using the std transaction J1I5 for RG1 Register update.
Normally we update the RG1 Register using the material documents.
So check whether for the material documents which you updated whether an excise invoice has been created or not ? because std - J1I5 transaction doesnt check the same.
If you have updated the RG1 register after creating the excise invoice for the above materials doc's then excise value will be updated in the same.
IF its not happening then check if any SAP notes are available.
Hope its clear.

• Mac mini 10.7.4 update problem after restart

Hi,
As I always do for every OS X update, I download the combo and apply the update, one of the many reasons for doin so is my very slow internet connection,
What wasn't my surprise when after making the restart, my Mac mini takes me to an OS X install assistant...
What went wrong and why?

Sounds like Disk Corruption, not sure what OS, but...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there.

• Buzz after updates installed, during restart

Hello,
After I install software updates, and my computer is restarting, a loud buzz occurs. I am wondering what this might mean and how I should fix it?

Try Booting in Safe Mode (hold down shift at startup) and see if that goes better. If it hasn't come to the Desktop within a couple of minutes it's not going to ... hold down the Power button and turn it off
Then try this:
Boot holding down Apple/S and don't let go until you see scrolling text.
When that stops and you see a root#: prompt enter
*fsck -fy*
Let it run through all the checks and repairs.
If it fails first time, at any time, or finds and fixes a fault - run the command again and keep doing so (some fixes can take several passes) until it says "Appears to be OK" then enter
reboot

IPAD2 no longer boot during the IOS 6.1.2 updating process.  It kept displaying the Apple icon over and over after it attempted to install (the highlighted bar was never able to completed the sequence till the end of the band).  Have tried hard start several times with same problem as noted (kept going back and forth with displaying the Apple Icon.  Any idea how to fix this problem?  The device is a 64GB and had 5GB left when the update problem occured.  Thanks

Do you have any success on this problem? Got the same stuck: after updating got a reboot with Apple logo and progress bar. Progress is going up to ~20% and then stuck. Tried to wait for 1 hour with no luck. Tried a force restart (Power + Home until reboot), all going one and one with same result.

Launched software update on MacBook v. 10.5.8 during restart, update stalled now nothing will launch-quits unexpectedly. Help!

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Some general advice on updating Leopard:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

Dear Leslie J.,
Your Apple ID was used to sign in to iCloud and iMessage on an iPad mini named “Leslie Joye's iPad”.
If you have not recently set up an iPad with your Apple ID, then you should change your Apple ID password. Learn more.

1. It is never a good idea to include personal info like your email address or Apple ID in a post on an open forum.
2. The email you received DOES NOT say your Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPad. The email informs you that your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad. Fortunately the iPad is yours. The message confirms that. If your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad that was not yours your would then know to change your password. Since the iPad is yours you do not need to change your password.
Is your iPad working?

• Problems during updates

hi to all,
I've a strange problem during the software update.
If I move some application from /Applications to a sub-folder (e.g. /Applications/MyApps) then the software updates does not notify the available updates.
This behaviour occurs for examples for iLife (iWeb, iDVD, etc...)
In order to update the software I have to move again, for examples, iDVD from /Applications/MyApps to /Applications.
Have someone the response to this? How can I resolve this problems?
Thansk to all
MacBook 13.3"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi alex,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
You cannot resolve this issue since it is not a problem but a "feature" of most Apple programs. If you want to use software update you have to leave all Apple programs in their default location.

• Problem during updating batch master

Hi All,
I am facing problem during batch updation. There is one RF program for creation of goods movement. After material document is created the batch needs to be updated. I have called BAPI_BATCH_CHANGE for updating country of origin, vendor batch and Z function module for updating revision level. Sometimes all fields gets updated properly and sometimes they dont. I have debug program and there is no coding problem. If i debug then all fields get updated properly. I am unable to trace then error. Is this logical database problem? If not then what can be the issue.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Shobhit

Hi Shobhit,
Are you using the FM BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT, to commit after the BAPI is called, if yes, this might be causing the data not to be saved for the customer function module, when you use the COMMIT, all the LUW will be cleared and the the data after commit won't be saved....
so do the COMMIT work, after your customer function module, or call your function module before the BAPI,,,,once all FM's are called, then do the commit, it will work.
Thanks,
Srini.

• MacBookPro Lion crash, loading during restart after failed updates.

During a restart phase after software updates (IPhoto, ITunes etc)my MacBookPro_Lion is not restarting anymore...just loading without reach login page. Was switched off due to low battery during restart phase after updates downloads. How can I solve it?
Thanks.

Boot into your Recovery partition (if you can) by holding down the command and R keys whilst booting. Once there elect to resinatll the OS (you may need your Apple ID and password for this). You'll not erase any data, etc., by installing a fresh OS.
Once your OS install is complete, you can restart and go through the update process again, this time remembering not to unplug from mains while the updates are installing.
