Update/Restore Problem Related to USB Wireless Cards
Went through a lengthy trouble-shooting problem with apple a few months ago and can't find my notes.
Basic problem was this: Had my iphone 3g synced with my work laptop (Dell), which I used an AT&T wireless USB Internet card with. When I installed that USB connect program, it switched a certain setting that caused my iphone to freeze up during new software updates.
Longer story short, I recently used the same USB card on my wife's PC laptop and am afraid she is going to have same problem when she updates her 3g. Can't find my notes from when I fixed this before.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
I reviewed the article, thanks, but it did not shed additional light on the blurring problem. I believe I have successfully installed the new Firmware as it fixed the dark screen and strange color problem.
The computer is a slot loading 400 mhz PowerPC G3 iMac.
It is currently running 9.2.1 (the blurring problem exists on this, 9.1, and OSX)
The only other thing I can think of is that I did the original installation of OSX during a thunderstorm, which may be an explaination of the blurring problem (things are never quite that simple).
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Problem with SB1240 USB sound card
I'm pulling hair here! I've just bought a SB240. Windows (XP Pro, SP3) detected it and I can select it fine for listening. But when I open Sound and Audio Device Properties and select Sound Recording/Volume, I see the Capture panel with the three inputs, but all the controls are greyed out and immovable. I also use the application "Total Recorder" by High Criteria, in which I can select the SB240 device but the only input line it sees is SPDIF Interface.
I'm stumped. Can anyone help?
John?&Re: Problem with SB240 USB sound card
Thank you. I did a complete uninstall, including the device itself (from Device Manager) as well as all drivers and any SB related software. As recommended by Creative, I had previously installed the driver software from the supplied CD and that seems to have been the problem.
I let Windows re-detect the SB, but? got a "problem ... device may not work correctly.." during the detection, so I was not hopeful (this had not happened the first time I installed the device).
Nevertheless it now does work fully and is properly configured in "Total Recorder" too.
So I would suggest not using the supplied drivers and software - at least not in WinXP. But it's not very confidence inspiring.

MikeHi 2k,
maybe it's a problem with the association between access point and your wireless card.
from the output of iwconfig the security mode is open, try to change it in restricted;
modify /etc/conf.d/wireless in this way:
wlan_ra0="ra0 essid BTHomeHub-F288 key restricted xxxxxxxxxx" -
[SOLVED] So many problems with the RTL8723au wireless card:
Hello,
I have been a long time linux user (Ubuntu & CentOS) and recently switched to Arch Linux. My laptop usually has strange issues with all sorts of stuff when it runs Linux like graphics cards, brightness control, and WiFi. So far I have been able to fix the first two on my own from the wiki.
In Ubuntu I was used to having to clone into https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723au and then making the driver. After a quick modprobe 8723au the wireless interface came up and was working perfectly with NetworkManager.
After doing the same thing with Arch, NetworkManager cannot connect to the internet, neither can Wicd which gets stuck at the Authentication step. I finally disabled both of these services and used wpa_supplicant to successfully connect but after a lot of errors. I am pretty sure something is wrong with the wireless driver, and not Wicd, NetworkManager, and wpa_supplicant at the same time.
There is no output from iw dev
'Not connected.' from iw dev wlp0s26u1u4i2 even though wpa_supplicant is connected to the internet.
Output of sudo wpa_supplicant -Dwext -iwlp0s26u1u4i2 -c./wpa_test :
(wpa_supplicant takes a good 3 minutes to connect)
Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant

what do i need to do to be able to use more then 1 sound source? if u need me to post any files let me know which ones and i'll post it. i never had this problem with my on board audio(hda intel)
Last edited by monkeyslayer56 (2010-02-26 13:13:42)i probbaly didn't have to add ALL of that but that was the only help from google i could get that supposedably used virtual surround sound and didn't steal the sound... and ya i read the dmix was supposed to load by default but i guess it wasn't. hopfully i'll get to learn how to configure alsa on my own so i don't have to copy/paste/system specific edit... btw here is my old .asoundrc that wouldn't let more then one divice use it(first on i found that supposedly enabled virtual surround sound)

I did a backup on my iPhone 4S prior to trying to update to iOS6. I have it setup to backup to the cloud.
I tried to update to iOS6 but it failed. itunes showed the option to restore from my backup which I attempted to do, but it asks for a password and I forgot it.
How can I go about getting my password so I can do the retore and then try to update to iOS6 ?
Any advise would be appreciatedI updated my iTunes, backed up my iPhone 4, attempted the update to iOS6... It failed. I have attpempted to restore my iPhone but I am being asked for a password. I have never put an encripted password on my phone and am now unable to do anything with it.
Help Please,
Thanks -
Update/restore problem. Is my phone fixable?
I just restored my iphone 4, to fet ready for the ios 7 updates, and when i go to set it up i can get all the way to try to connect to the itunes store, but then it says it cannot connect and says to try again later, i have been trying this for hours now
Probably not. Apple lets every iDevice 'call home' after a installation (of iOS), to activate it in their own systems and to ensure that the installation went smooth.
Normally this would be done in a matter of minutes, but because so many people are currently trying to reach those servers that handle the activations, the servers aren't able to handle all this traffic, that's why your phone is saying that it can't connect. It literally can't. It's comparable to a DDOS attack: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack
This has probably nothing to do with AT&T and everything with Apple.
I advise you wait. Later in the day the load on the servers will become less and you should be able to activate your phone.

Satellite Pro 4600 Wireless card does not work with WIN2K ?
I have a Satellite Pro 4600 with UK dealer installed PA3070U-1MPC wireless card running with Windows 2000
The wireless client manager finds the network of my wireless router and reports the signal is excellent and I see all green bars swhowing.
However I can't mske a connection, in 'connections' the wireless one says 'network cable is disconnected'
the router works ok with other laptops in my house.
I have latest version of Win2K also have downloaded and installed latest versions of client manager and WLAN card driver for win2k from toshiba website.
The 'toshiba support in Turkey' told me 'I need a different driver for Win2K for my wireless card cause the win2K driver on the toshiba website is not for 'this' wireless card'. I have waited for this for 3 weeks now and have been unable to reach the elusive UK Level 3 support who supposedly have this driver. I have seen on the internet the same wireless card is has been sold as a 'made by toshiba' accessory and it says it is compatible with Wim2K
What do I do next please ? Does this run at all with Win2K , is there 'another driver' and so on ?
Thankshello
please be more scpecific - what do you mean by 'disconnect the LAN' - I have nothing conneced there anyway ? do you mean 'disable' the LAN even though there is nothing plugged in ? can you please post the exact sequence of this so I can try ir too.
In the meantime my laptop has been to Toshiba for them to sort out at their highest level UK support base. I was hoping my troubles would be over - but no, read below what happened. They are basically saying my win2k is not in order but I had just installed and updated it so right now I haven't a clue what to do next.
START QUOTE of Toshiba Support response:
Sat Pro 4600
Serial No: 31474181G
Windows 2000 SP4 (customers build not recovery CD)
BIOS V1.80 not current therefore updated to V2.60
The notebooks wireless card is functional and has the correct driver installed, it also has the correct and latest version of the Wireless Client Manager. The wireless function appears to see the router but will not connect and obtain an IP address. Irrespective of the settings applied within Internet Explorer or the Wireless client manager you cannot obtain a connection. The customer did not have any Toshiba utilities installed such as, Power Saver, Common Modules, Chipset drivers, network device switch, I therefore installed these missing components and updated the BIOS to the most current revision. However despite this the unit will still not connect to the wireless.
I therefore removed the customers HDD and replaced his HDD with a Toshiba loan HDD with a fresh build that I had created. When using the machine with this build the wireless connected without issue and I was able to browse the internet etc. I placed the customers HDD into our machine and the problem with the wireless was replicated on our machine here, therefore the problem is not with the wireless card or any hardware aspect of the machine, the problem lies with the customer's build of Win 2000. I examined for anything obvious but could not find anything, therefore I'm sending this machine back to customer with the advice that his build needs addressing or he needs to reload Win 2000 his machine.
As you can see from the above comments, the machine performs as per specification with loan HDD and fresh build of Win 2000 installed, the problem is only present with you HDD and build in the machine. In addition to this I have replaced the missing screws on the base of the machine ensuring the machine is structure is maintained.

Which Wireless card do I have in my Satellite A40
Hi all,
I got a Toshiba Satalite Pro A 40 (PSA45E) from a friend
As the Windows XP was quite slow I decided to reinstall the OS and have now a problem to install the Wireless card
At the moment I have Windows XP (without Service Pack, which must be the first version which was on sale I assume) but cant install the Wlan card
I tried several times to switch on/off the card with the FN key, but Windows cant find it. Also the device manager does not list any unknown device or Wireless card. Therefore I'm not sure which Card is now installed
I'm very sure that I saw some SSIDs with the old Windows before installed the new Windows
now I'm wondiring if I can download recovery CDs from the WEB or find any free Software which can read the hardware on a PC even if the drivers are missing, to see if the card is responding.
Furthermore I noticed that at the back of the Laptop there is only the MAC on the LAN card on a sticker. could it be that Tosiba didnt put a sticket with the WLAN MAC on the back?
Where would I be able to find a manual to physically locate the mini-pci card?
Thanks
ChrisThe recovery discs can not be downloaded from the web. Therefore you would need to go to ASP, so that they could order it for you.
I'm not sure, but I think the wifi module is under the keyboard, but don't ask me how you can get there. All I know is, that you will have to remove some screws from the bottom of your notebook in order to clips out the keyboard.
Anyway, there is software around that can identify devices in your machine, like Everest.
But are you sure you have Wlan equipped in your notebook? As far as I know a wifi module was not built in. -
G500 Driver_Power_State_Failure problem most likely related to Wireless Card
I recently upgraded my Lenovo G500 laptop to 8.1.
After that, I've been constantly getting BSOD every time I modify some settings on my WIreless card (Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter). For instance, changing my MAC under the"Locally Administered MAC Address" causes the Wireless configuration window to stop responding, then my wireless adapter becomes permanently disabled (I try to enable it and it says that it is enabling but the adapter remains faded out and locked in a disabled state) unless I restart or power down my laptop. If I restart, the laptop hangs for 3-5 minutes and then a BSOD comes up and suggests that I look online for DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.
I have updated the adapter as well as most, if not all outdated drivers on my laptop with the 8.1 drivers offered on Lenovo's support pages (This includes power management, BIOS, LAN, Audio, etc.). Even attempting to voluntarily disable my wireless card causes the BSOD.
As long as I don't touch/modify such settings, I have wireless internet and all seems fine but once I do what I stated above, my laptop crashes with a BSOD. I have looked up and searched about such a BSOD but my laptop has zero problems when I put it to sleep or wake it up. My laptop functions practically flawless except for when changing/modifying settings on my wireless card.
For instance, on Whocrashed.exe:

I ran SFC /scannow and it did detect corrupted files but that has been resolved using the Restorehealth command prompt. I have tried booting to safe mode, uninstalling the adapter and then updating straight to the most current 8.1 driver and that still causes the BSOD.
I'm almost certain that my wireless card probably is defective, or the laptop is defective. I'm still under warranty but I'm hoping to fix this issue before resorting to what I deem as last resorts of factory restoring the laptop or calling Lenovo support.
I am also providing minidumps, driver lists and a whole ton of useful information on my Skydrive:

Any suggestions or help on this matter would be greatly appreciated as I feel like I've exhausted all other methods.

I had the exact same problem on a Thinkpad Helix after upgrading to Windows 8.1, although I do not know if it was in anyway related to the wireless hardware as you described. However, I noted that in the Device Manager many wireless hardware components had been highlighted with an exclamation mark since the problem had occured (e.g. Bluetooth, Geolocation, Broadband). Here is how I fixed it:
1. I went to System Settings / Device Manager.
2. Disabled all devices that were highlighted with an exclamation mark. I noted that the Device Manager would not respond after disabling so I closed it and then chose to not wait (i.e. forced the Device Manager to close).
3. Repeated step (2.) until all devices highlighted with an exclamation mark were disabled.
4. Restarted the laptop (I don't know if I had to force the shut down via power off at that time, but it may be necessary or you wait for the BSOD).
5. Repeated step (1.) and uninstalled all the drivers of the devices disabled in steps (2.) to (3.), enabling the option to remove the driver from the system, where possible.
6. Restarted the system. This time the shutdown should only take a few seconds.
So far, everything works fine again and I cannot identify any limitations through the disabling and uninstalling of devices (esp. wireless devices do work flawlessly).
Hope this works for some of you guys out there as well. Let me know.
Good luck!

Problems with my USB 2.0.4 card working with my ipod 3RD GEN
So I have a 3rd Generation ipod 15gigs and I wanted to install a USB 2 card in my Mac desktop (G4 Dual) since my fire ports have been giving me issues when I try to tranfer things to my ipod.
I then went out and purchased a (Dynex USB 2.0.4 Port PCI Host Adapter card) I installed it but when I hooked up my ipod using the proper cable to my computer it did not reconize it nothing showed up on my desktop and my itunes to did show that I had my ipod connectd also it would sometimes freeze my computer and also totally drain my ipod of its power even through it had full battery life prior.
To make sure it was not my ipod that had the problem I connected it to another computer(G5) USB port and it work perfect. I also tried installing the Dynex in a different slot in my G4 and still incounter th same issues
If anyone out there could help me it would be much appreciated is it my card or my computer, thanks.

Dual 1 GHz PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.4.10)Did you press the motherboard's reset button, after installing the card and before starting up the computer? It's possible that the USB controller chip used on the Dynex (a distributor of generic-brand components) USB 2.0 card doesn't interact well with your G4. The consensus of opinion in the Forums recommends a USB 2.0 card having an NEC controller chip, for the most trouble-free operation. I've used the IOGEAR USB 2.0 (2-port) card ($20 USD) without problems, but quirks related to specific connected devices may undoubtedly occur. You'll be better off returning the Dynex card and trying a different brand.

Hey this is totally weird. I haven't done jailbreak at all and I won't But how is possible that default apps such as Safari and Appstore have the problem I've mentioned before and Skyfire works perfectly without any trouble.
So to sum up:
Safari: loading stucks after few seconds on wi-fi, mostly doesn't load pictures
Appstore: loading stucks after few seconds on wifi and it keeps saying "loading"
Facebook and Youtube: doesn't load pictures
SKYFIRE: loads everything without any trouble
and completely everything works on Edge...

Broadcom Wireless Card Setup Problems
Hello there, I'm very new to Archlinux and to linux overall. Since I'm done with my classes for the summer, I had the crazy idea to setup a home web server with my old machine and at the same time use the wireless card as an acess point for my laptop. The problem is that I followed all the steps in the Archlinux wiki about the wireless setups for the B43 driver several times. However, my system seams to ignore all my efforts and keeps making fun of me. According to what I understood, it's not setting up the network interface. (Which is suposed to be done automaticly I think) So here's a bunch of troubleshooting commands results.
iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.

i was trying to update/restore my ipod and now i plug it in and it stays frozen on the usb to itunes picture. and when i plug it in it dosnt come up in itunes how do i fix this? any suggestions are appreciated
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
