Update Retriever downloads update packages in bulk for any system. It's usually used in enterprise deployment situations.
System Update downloads and installs the necessary drivers and softwawre only for your current system.

  • Are permissions updated along with system updates?

    I have heard that permissions are updated along with system updates and that I should use only the latest version of Disk Utility rather than the Disk Utility that is on the original Snow Leopard install disk. Is this true? In my experience, there are times when the install disk is the best choice for cleaning up a problem.

    Sometimes default permissions may change with a system update. In that case there may also be an updated version of Disk Utility.
    It's always best to repair permissions using the current version of Disk Utility installed in the Utilities folder. However there may be times when repairing the hard drive and permissions only can be done from an installer DVD. In any event DU relies on a database of permissions, now, rather than a built-in set of permissions. Since the database is located on the system disk that's being repaired it makes little difference whether permissions are repaired using a local copy of DU or the one on an installer DVD.

  • Softwareupdate -i -a = No update to apps - system updates only

    Since Mavericks, when I choose UNIX>softwareupdate -i -a in Apple remote Desktop to get clients to check for software update, they only pickup system updates, not updates for apps such as iPhoto and Pages. If I log on the computer and check for updates, they do appear and download.
    Am I missing something?
    I presume it is becuase the AppleID password is required for these updates?

    I too have had inconsistent results because there appears to be a problem with the update cataloge in Server 3.0.3. In the end I've managed to get it working by pointing the clients to:
    http://[SERVER.DOMAIN]:8088/content/catalogs/others/index-10.9-mountainlion-lion-snowle opard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog
    Quite right that only system updates are installed; only those things that don't require an Apple ID to install/update.

  • Hotkey Features Integration not detected by update retriever / system Update

    Hi Lenovo
    I suspect there might be an error in your metadata for the package 81vu13ww "Hotkey Features Integration"
    It is not offered through systemupdate or update retriever.

  • Update Retriever - how to hide specific updates?

    Hi,
    while reading the System Update Deployment Guide, I stumbled upon the possibility of hiding updates from automatic downloading into the repository. As there are certain software products distributed via lenovos Servers, which I do not want to install onto our companies' computers, I would like to let Update Retriever skip these updates.
    I wasn't able to find the described funcionality in the program yet. Does someone of you know how to hide those updates?
    Thanks in advance,
    mat_ban

    Allan, as far as I can see it only allows me to include or not include Metadata by checkin the box in the Image Export window. I want to include most Metadata, particularly my name and copyright. There is one field where I keep my notes that I do not want to send with the photo.This is where my dilemma lies.
    thanks

  • System Update download location

    I work for a company that is transitioning to using the T440 laptops and need to update several systems in an efficient manner. I would like to know where System Update downloads the updates so I do not have to download the updates multiple times. Can someone assist?

    You seem to want a export function within System Update to export ~10 updates to offllne area, with ~50 XML showing in the SU repository. Could you explain your need for such export vs letting SU do its function?==I can provide a solution, which might not be really cool, but works.(1) run SU, note ~10 updates needed out of ~50.(2)Launch IE go to Lenovo support(3)enter your machine type, filter by OS. You might see ~50 updates, you need ~ 10.(4) Mix and match SU report vs support page.(5) download all ~10 updates. save as u want. This satisfies  your request?  Thank you for your kind suggestions. Actually, I figured this one out for myself, too.
    Why I don't like ThinkVantage System Update? I am on an old, slower machine (which is still perfect for my daily needs to install a clean Windows 7 on it, bought second hand, 2nd, and last Lenovo), it requires NET4, and a lots of resources. It feels like to me that Lenovo just makes things more complicated than they should be.
    I prefer the simple installation packages.
    I have also found a, seemingly, easier way: the ThinkVantage Update Retriever;
    It just downloads me the files I need (without needing NET4), with file names like aqswdefrtdeswaq.exe
    Though I don't get why I cannot extract same files from a 'deferred update' chosen in System Update, why do I need a separate Update Retriever for this;
    The main problem, however, is this:
    - the website and Update Retriever displays files like aqswdefrgtyfrde.exe
    - then why can't System Update display them in the same format? This just makes matching the files so much more complicated, for no apparent reason.
    To add insult to injury, System Update tells me I need a driver (I am sorry, I am not yet in the NET4 phase of Windows Update as of writing, so I can't tell you which) which I can't find as a separate entry on the home page a single driver.
    To sum it up, Lenovo wised up a great process for update:
    - First I need to wait until NET4 installs on my fresh Windows 7, for System Update to be able to tell me which updates I need at all
    - Then I don't need that bloatware, I can get the single files needed from a much more friendly application called Update Retriever
    - The mix and matching between the two is a PITA, because System Update displays files by Windows7/8/XP, 32/64 bit, Date, version number, but under no circumstances under exact filenames, such as aqswdefrt.exe, which would make locating the exact drivers much easier
    Why, Lenovo, why? You could make this whole process much more painless, really; if you at least try a little.

    Hi Mithun,
    The problem still persist.

    - .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
    - Lenovo System Update 5.03.008 (systemupdate503-2013-10-31.exe)

  • Issue installing System Update 5.01

    Hello all I am having an issue installing System update 5.01.  I looked in the logs within the temp directory and it says error 1602 which is user canceled.  However, I am not canceling the install.    I also tried http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall  that didn't work either.
    I'm on a T420 with Windows 7 64bit.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your time

    I had similar issues installing 5.01. I believe there is something wrong with the package. Here is how I fixed it:
    Download installer from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=TVSU-UPDATE
    Extract package with 7zip
    Copy "Lenovo System Update.msi" to "System Update.msi"
    Run setup.exe
    For some reason the installer was looking for this file and it wasn't there, perhaps running the installer in silent/unattended mode caused it to exit with the code you mentioned.
    I hope this fixes your problem too!

  • System Update 3.16

    Hi, I have an issue with with System Update 3.16 running under Vista and XP.
    I have done a clean install on a T43 and T61 laptop and installed System Update however when I run the program it reports that there are "No Applicable Udates For Your System".
    System Update was working on these machines up until about a month ago.
    Has anyone else experianced this? If so how can I solve this problem.

    You state a "clean" install.  Was this a Factory Recovery using the Lenovo service partition or did you use a windows install DVD? You state both vista and xp. Are you the original owner of the machines?
    For the T43 and T61 state:
    (1)exact model of each, ie T43 2668
    (2)operating system installed on each, 32 bit or 64 bit currently
    (3)factory shipped operating system, if you know it
    It could be your machine is update to date. Did you run windows update prior to running System Update?  Windows update could have installed most of your drivers.
    You need to go the Lenovo support page, enter each machine.  Then filter the list by operating system, and see what shows up. Any new updates you think System Update should be offering you?
    Locate the SU run log and post it here via a file share utility, such as www.dropbox.com.
    For XP:
    c\Programfiles\Lenovo\Systemupdate\logs\tvsu_*timestamp*.log
    For VISTA:
    c\Programfiles(x86)\Lenovo\Systemupdate\logs\tvsu_*timestamp*.log
    >>If I did not get the above correct, just search C drive for      tvsu_
    ===
    If your MODEL  shipped from Lenovo, with ONLY an XP offering, you will not get Vista updates at all via SU.
    (I can confirm this by looking at the SU logs).
    The SU catalog page is model number+operating system type.
    I suspect you took a XP only machine and installed Vista via a Microsoft DVD.  Your feedback will help.

  • Any way to stop Update Retriever from downloading Microsoft Updates?

    We have roughly 20 different lenovo laptop types in our organization.  We would like to have update retriever download all updates for both windows xp and 7 for each laptop into the repository, except windows updates.  Since we use WSUS, we do not need windows updates downloaded again.
     It would be very time consuming to manually select only certain updates for each Machine Type when we want everything except windows updates.
    Thank you.

    I don't think it retrieves updates for the windows os , just lenovo software,drivers updates

  • Pre-Download System Updates to use w/MDT 2012

    Is their any way to pre-download these system updates and install them during a deployment using MDT 2012?

    I assume you're wanting to automatically install drivers?
    Download the driver packs for your models from here: http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/ht074984
    Then add them to your deployment. I'm an SCCM guy, not a MDT guy, but this blog post looks like it may be relevant:

    I just tried updating my Lenovo System Update to the latest version compatible with Windows 7 SP1 (version 4.0.0046), and it fails every time with the following error:
    Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\DARREN~1.STI\AppData\Local\Temp\pftD0BB.tmp\setup\pasinst.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
    I looked in the 'pftD0BB.tmp' folder and there is no 'setup' folder, so I'm guessing this is an error in the installer?
    Any ideas? Definitely want to get this up and running again.
    Thanks,
    Darren David

    It's no longer (sadly) surprising to me that this issue has not been publicly addressed and that I experienced the same issue with 4.0.100.1124 today.
    Here is what worked for me.  I don't have the bandwidth to test this again, nor is it likely the most direct method (I'm sure several of these steps are redundant).  And I hate authoring instructions for just about anything.  Just my blundering path to a non-failing installation.
    1. Downloaded the systemupdate40-2011-02-18.exe from the Lenovo support site.
    2. Ran systemupdate40-2011-02-18.exe and was presented with the "Windows cannot find..." love note.
    3. Unpacked systemupdate40-2011-02-18.exe (I use winrar) to a folder on the desktop (e.g. \sysupdate\)
    4. Ran setup.exe within that folder...same failure to find psainst.exe
    5. Located and executed psaddZip.exe within same folder.  This unpacks to a \setup folder with, surprise surprise, psainst.exe within.
    6. Ran setup.exe again.  Successful installation.
    System Update 4.0.1.x.whatever ran, checked, and updated beautifully, and then BSOD'd on restart.  But I'm still here.
    Your mileage will most certainly vary.

  • System Update - scheduling updates

    I have a Lenovo SL500 and have System Update installed. I would like to schedule update automatically with System Update, and was led to believe this could be done. Indeed, the "Help" contains a topic, "Scheduling updates". This topic tells me to "Click *Schedule Updates* on the left menu". However, I do not see "*Schedule Updates*" on the left menu.
    My left menu, in System Update, comprises the following items:
      * Welcome
      * Get new updates
      * Install deferred updates
    Advanced:
      * View installation history
      * Restore hidden updates
    I have ThinkVantage System Update 3 installed, version 3.14.0024. This is on Windows Vista Home Basic.
    What gives? Why can I not see "*Schedule Updates*", and/or how do I get it to appear?

    This is a mistake of TVSU.  Hotkeys 3.87 isn't for your T530.  Please ignore it while we fix the mistake on our side.
    As for APS, it will install on SSD system but it doesn't provide any benefit.

  • System Update v3.14 error: "an error occurred while downloading packages"

    I installed the new version of System Update v3.14 from the Leonvo web site on my ThinkCentre A30 (8199-B2U) running Windows XP SP2, however I get the error message "an error occurred while downloading packages" when the percentage hits 15% or 17%.
    I uninstalled System Update, rebooted, removed the System Update folder, and re-installed the new System Update v3.14, however I get the same error message.
    When I re-install, even after uninstalling System Update, I get a message "a version of IBM Update Connector or System Update has been detected on your system...".  I continue anyway but get the above error message.
    I am unable to uninstall IBM Update Connector from the Add-Remove Programs GUI as there is no option to remove it.
    Can you tell me how to manually uninstall both IBM Update Connector and/or System Update?
    Or please advise if there is another fix for this problem?
    Thanks much.
    Gary Grathen

    grathen, welcome to the forum,
    it's been a while, but if I'm right (which I think I am ), you need to visit C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\UPDATER and run the Setup file which will give you the choice to uninstall.
