Update screwed everything up

I recently updated my 3GS to 4.0. What a major mistake. Now my address book has phone numbers assigned to the wrong people, the phone calls out by itself, the voice dial doesn't work correctly (I tell it to call "home" and it answers back "calling Fred Smith". It is constantly dialing the wrong contact. What a screw up. Apple should be sued for this one. Give me my money back for this piece of crap phone or fix it. I never had any problems whenever my G1 updated. APPLE YOU OWE US - FIX THIS **** UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read it - doesn't really matter to me. The issue is that Apple put out a product that, as appears in a great number of forums including this one, made the iphone worse than it was before. You want specifics - here - .Example 1: one contact in the 530 area code with a home and cell phone after the update now 5 phone numbers with a variety of area codes and 2 home addresses. Example 2: Phone sitting on the desk, my daughters cell phone rings and it was my cell phone calling her - I was in the bathroom. Example 3: After this update my handsfree dialing no longer accurately dials the name I tell it to dial. I tell it to dial home and it dials someone else - such as Fred Smith. The sound of the two aren't even close. I never had an error in voice dialing before the update. Example 4: Syncing between my computer, gmail account and iPhone no long work. I see complaints all over the internet about this and anyone who has an iPhone needs to know to stay away from this update.

  • How I "fixed" my iPod after the latest update screwed everything up

I am not sure if this will help anyone but here is what I have been through and done. I also don't know if this "fix" will last. So far it has been 24 hours and my iPod still works. To be honest I was surprised anything worked since this whole fiasco started. Good Luck!
(Please know I am not telling you to do this, just letting you know what I did and what happened. I have no idea if the slap to the hand actually did any good or if it is all just coincidence.)
After installing the latest iPod updater my iTunes would not recognize my iPod and when connected to the pc the iPod would simple flash do not disconnect. This would not stop no matter what I did. Once I removed the iPod from the pc sometimes it would go to the menu and have music on it and other times it would not have music on it. On some occasions I would get the folder with the exclamation point. I did try to reformat the drive through the pc and/or restore it through the updater but since it kept flashing do not disconnect the updater could not "mount" the iPod and the pc was never able to access the drive. At one point I was able to access the drive and reformat it but it said it could not finish the formatting. After three days of trying to do all of these steps over and over I finally put in a ticket to have it repaired by Apple.
I did reinstall iTunes to its latest update but kept the updater at the version that originally came with the iPod on the Cd.
Which leads me to the final step. I had heard that other folks had slapped the iPod against their hands and suddenly they would work again. So I figured, at this point, what do I have to lose? (Please know I am not telling you to do this, just letting you know what I did and what happened. I have no idea if the slap to the hand actually did any good or if it is all just coincidence.) I plugged the iPod in and watched it flash its message to do not disconnect, I reset it and then forced it to say do not disconnect, then quickly disconnected it. Once removed I slapped the side of the iPod against the palm of my hand. The drive did spin up and the picture which tells you to plug the iPod into the wall appeared, which I did. It showed the apple logo, a status bar ran and then went to the menu and reset itself.
I connected the iPod to the pc with the current iTunes program, old iPod updater version, with my playlists and library intact and it started to update the iPod with my library and playlists. Once finished I manually disconnected the iPod and safely removed the hardware.
So far it works fine. I used it at home and in my car. I have not tried to use the new updater again. Honestly I fear what would happen.

    Hi Zmajev,
If you are having syncing issues after an update to iTunes 11.2.2.5, you may want to try updating to the most recent version (iTunes 11.3, which was just released yesterday) and see if the issues still persist. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Why has the last update screwed everything up

...Now, important site I use no longer functions like it should.
It should remember what I've looked at, this is the way it use to function.
this might sound vague but I got no input on my last question!-maybe too long?
It's a music site I use for buying records...
When I listen to something, it should become greyed out,
    this way I don't listen to things twice!...or more : (
Also, rar files don't download, this is some pain
    Any info/input would be appreciated
    Scott

    Mac OSX 10.6.8
    Safari 5.1.1
    example of site:
    www.decks.de
As I said, with the site a track title for example, will be greyed or darkened out, once clicked once or,
    listened to...once
Now after last update, track titles, listened to, only stay dark/greyed out, until quiting and relauching Safari..
where they then become "as new" again.
The rar file problem is easier to explain: rar. files don't download- from anywhere...
example: 100 Mb .rar file takes a split second to download..
then shows only, very small size i.e 5kb
    and can't open!
    this is ridiculous

  • Wireless Update screwed everything up!

I was having a TON of software problems with my 8530, so people recommended that I update it, which I did.
The biggest problem I was having was with the SMS app. When I was on the home screen and I typed in a contact's name, and then hit the menu key and selected "SMS ______," about half the time it would take me to the Messages application instead of the area for a new SMS. Then if I hit the Back button and repeated that process, I would finally go straight to the SMS app.
This was a huge annoying deal and it seems to be fixed so far.
However, the updated created about 5 of each of my contacts, deleted about 1/3 of them, and removed all the Facebook information I had for them.
I'm having more problems with this phone than I would've imagined, can anyone help?

    Hi,
In this case i would recommend wiping the BlackBerry smartphone. To do this we would need to back up the BlackBerry smartphone. Please open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and connect your BlackBerry smartphone. Click on the Backup and Restore button and select Back Up. Please note the location where the backup is being saved as we will need to access it later to restore the BlackBerry smartphone.
Once backed up please follow the link below to perform a security wipe of your BlackBerry smartphone.
    Link: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14058
Test the BlackBerry smartphone and proceed with a selective restore as outlined below.

  • How do I change the name of my wireless network without screwing everything up?

How do I change the name of my wireless network without screwing everything up?  Thanks.

OK, thanks for the updated information. Please change your profile when you can.
If you change the network name, keep in mind that any device that connects now will need to connect again to your "new" network.
    On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the upper right corner of the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the screen
Edit/backspace out the current wireless network name and then type in the name that you want to use
A few hints....avoid using blank spaces, and also avoid using any special characters like an apostrophe, asterisk, dollar sign, etc. Keep the name short....no more than 20 characters, fewer would be better and simpler to manage.
Click Update at the lower right of the window and wait a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart with the new settings. You are all set now.

  • 10.5.8 Software update screws permissions

I had a recent disk crash on my MacBook, so bought a new hard-disk for it. I installed OSX with the original disks that I have. That is to say I did the following:
    Install 10.4 with 2 disks
Upgrade to 10.5 with the official upgrade disk
All seems to work fine at this stage. So I installed some additional software and everything works fine. Then I did the Apple Software Update (from the menu in the top left corner). Amongst other things, this installs Safari 4.0.3 and upgrades the OS version to 10.5.8.
Next time I boot up, I find out that Firefox doesn't load up. Some searching around the net and I find out that this might be related to disk permission problems. It's at this time that I discover that I am unable to create any new folders on my Desktop. The error reported when I try to is:
The operation could not be completed
An unexpected error occurred (error code -8058)
I run Disk Utility, and find a few hundred disk permission problems. "Repair Disk Permissions" button reports that it fixes all issues, but running the check again finds just as many violations.
To make sure that it wasn't something i did, I formatted the disk again, and re-installed the OS. But applying the updates screws up my permissions again.
So: the underlying problem appears to be with permissions. This manifests itself in several ways, including this problem with my desktop. To repeat, I cannot interact with the desktop itself (the computer background), although I can access it via the Finder. (e.g. Any USB files I add to the system don't appear on the desktop, but do appear in the desktop directory in the Finder).
Other problems that I've found (I suspect this is not an exhaustive list):
    - Cannot redeploy DMG files (I tried to download and redeploy MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.dmg after finding suggestions that this might fix my problems). I then found that other DMG files don't work!
    - Some programs (most notably Firefox) simply won't open (even in safe-mode).
Does anybody have any ideas as to what might be going wrong? And how I can fix it?
It can't be a compatibility problem with the specific hard-disk that I replaced - can it?
    Thanks,

    Thanks Kappy.
I followed this technique on my third re-installation with no success. I did it a fourth time, and instead of running the unified 10.5.8 update, I ran each of the 10.5.x updates individually. (10..5.1 followed by 10.5.2 etc.) This frustrating and time-consuming work-around seemed not to replicate the problem again, and I've been running happily for 2 weeks since.
However, after attempting to install a third party application tonight (a free app from the Web that I hoped would help me re-import my lost iTunes library from my iPod, an application I hasten to add, which I need because iTunes itself won't let me recover my library from my iPod), the whole system hung again, crashing the Finder app. After an leaving the system alone for an afternoon in order to allow Finder to recover itself, I forced a reboot. Now I find that I am unable to write anything to my desktop again. The original problem is back!!
I'm very frustrated at the moment as I am unable to pin down the cause exactly. Certainly however, there is something very unstable about the MacBook's setup! I'm pretty sure it's down to one of the following:
    1) The OS has some kind of allergy to the particular brand of hard-disk that I've put into my MacBook after the original crash. This I find fairly unlikely, although I'd like to hear someone else's opinions and experiences on similar matters.
    2) 10.5.8 has a bug in it. My chief suspects are the reported disk permission issues, much discussed in these forums. I strongly suspect that they are not quite as innocent as Apple make them out to be: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
I'm going to reinstall my OS for the 5th time now. I will only upgrade the OS to 10.5.7 and run with that for a while to see what happens. If I run happily for a month with this setup, I would very much like to report this as a 10.5.8 'issue' to Apple. Does anyone know how I can do this in an official capacity?

  • Update screwed my server

The update screwed up my machine. Here is the entry I'm getting in the console:
10/20/08 1:47:31 PM org.apache.httpd492 httpd: Syntax error on line 115 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so, 10): no suitable image found. Did find:\n\t/usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture
I had reinstalled apache and php a few weeks ago to get back gd library. Now the update has hosed my server!
Anyone know how to fix this?

Had exactly the same console error after installing the Mac OS X 10.5.6 Update.
    Oops - how that?
What I've done some months ago was : Getting *PHP + GD + pdo_mysql working on OSX 10.5* (aka *recompiling everything* ) as described in the excellent step-by-step guide on http://drewish.com/node/110
So I did it again following every instruction from top to bottom and voilà: everything I need in my development environment works as it did before.
I do not know what the MacOS-update does in detail, nor could I explain what happens during 'make' or 'install'. It works, that's enough.

I have a back up of the folder 'iTunes Media' on a Nas (LaCie CloudBox).
    I do a weekly update.
    Everything is cool.
Now I would  love to keep the iTunes Mediafolder on the Nas and delete the one on my internal HD.
What kind of trouble I may run into?
    Where are the hidden catches?
What can go wrong, and how can i undo any mistake?
I also have an iTunes Match acccount.
    Cheers
    rudy

    HI
Read this user tip Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.
Problems? No hidden catches. Whilst streaming using match, you will need a wifi connection. You main worry is that if your NAS drives fails, you need to redownload your music from match but this could take time depending on how large your collection is. Personally I keep an additional backup of all my music as a matter of course.

  • Update wiped everything out of iphoto

The latest auto update wiped everything out of iphoto leaving me an empty app. The photos are still in the library,...in a gagillion folders, but isn't there some way to restore all the albums and everything I had before? And is this going to happen every time there is an update?

Option click iPhoto and select Choose Library. Navigate to the iPhoto Library and iPhoto should see it now.
Is this going to happen every time there is an update?
No, I think that it just went wrong this time.

A few days ago, my HP printer software updated automatically, everything seemed fine (Mac is running Maverick, my laptop is Snow Leopard).  Out of the blue yesterday, my printer stopped printing (neither Mac can connect), I have tried everything.  Both the suggestion from HP and Apple, it's making me crazy I've spent most of time trying to fix it.

    You tried exactly what ?
I most of the time would start with the same Apple Printer Support page tech articles
OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion systems will have the necessary printing software already installed, or will automatically download and install software when the printer is connected or configured. Do not install software that came with the printer as it may be out of date, and do not connect the printer to your Mac yet. Follow the instructions that came with the printer to unpack, install ink or toner, and insert paper.  Finally, use the instructions in this article to connect the printer to your Mac.
Make sure the printer model is listed in Printer and scanner software, which is a comprehensive list of all printer models that have compatible software for OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion.
    How to add a printer
Start a print job on the Mac and manage its options
    Generate and manage PDFs
Manage the printer queue and printer dock icon
    Share the printer queue
Mac OS Printing/Fax (any version), OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion
    http://www.apple.com/support/osx/
printing in OS X Mountain Lion
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670
Try to delete the print queue under Print & Fax / Print & Scan then manually add a print queue.
    Steps here: http://bit.ly/TdUuHL
If it doesn't work, reset the printing system:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341
then add another print queue manually.
