Update Sent iPhone into Recovery Mode

A friend told me about the update so I connected my iPhone to my computer and chose "Update." I got an error that ended with my phone in "Recovery Mode." iTunes recognizes it as an iPhone in recovery mode and I choose "Restore" but what seems to be most of the way through the restore I get an error saying (direct quote) "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)." After I first had problems I updated iTunes, but that didn't help. I'm on hold with phone support. I've yet to talk to anyone.

I also experienced the "recovery mode" issue. After distilling some of the recent posts here and related topics, here's what I found worked for me. (1) Delete iTunes 7.6 update, download and install iTunes 7.6 from Apple's website. (Good idea to back up your iTunes library just in case). (2) If you have tried several restores of the iPhone without success, navigate to //user/library and delete the several backup files there. (3) Reset your iPhone (simultaneously press home and power key until Apple logo appears). Turn iPhone off (press power key until screen blanks). (4) Plug in your iPhone and you'll hopefully see that the software and firmware is being restored. (This takes a while). After that, you'll see the message that your iPhone files are being restored, however you have them set in iTunes. One note -- though I'm not sure why, having your iPhone plugged directly into your machine's USB port rather than through a hub may prevent device polling from corrupting the iPhone restore process. This worked for me -- not sure if similar process would work on Windows boxes or not. After about an hour of messing with it, now have updated iPhone fully functional (again) with new features.

  • My iphone 4s was loading a software update and went into recovery mode, I don't want to lose all my data please help me@!

I was loading the latest software update to "fix bugs and security issues" and my phone went into "recovery mode".  I've never seen this before.  I plugged it into iTunes as shown on the screen of my phone and it says "Iphone in recovery mode detected" and suggested resetting the phone to factory settings. I don't want to lose all my data so is there another way to fix it?  All help will be appreciated!

Sorry, whatever data you had on your phone has been wipe off already, since your phone is in recovery mode.
You will need to restore your phone.  Then if you have a backup, you can choose that backup to restore from, if you have no backup, your only option is to sync contents from iTunes.

  • TS2529 iOS update throws phone into recovery mode - HELP

The current iOS update seems to have thrown the phone into recovery mode now requiring restoration through iTunes. Of course I don't have photo stream on and fear losing all my photos. Any way around this?

Reset, hold both the home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart. If this works great. If not you may have to Restore the iPhone to get it working again. If you decide to do this you may even have to use DFU Mode to Restore. Here are the steps for DFU. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes.

  • HT1766 Update sent phone into restore mode?

I just updated my 3GS iphone with iSO6. The update then stopped and the phone restarted and the recovery screen appeared on the phone.  I don't have anything backed up and don't want to lose my pictures, is there anything that I can do.

Attempting to update a device without a backup is not very smart.
WIthout a backup there is nothing to restore.
Once in recovery mode, all data is gone and the device must be restored.
Luckily for you, nothing on your device was important. Had that data been important then no intelligent human would elect to not backup the data.

When i plugged it into my Mac the apple logo comes up on the iphone screen. and then on the computer it says itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. you must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes. (as in the below pictures)
when i click ok to restore it just says waiting for iphone (as in the other photo below). i left it in for 20minutes and still said the same thing.

If this method does not work, then you will need to fully Restore your
        device as New
Also, see iTunes- Restoring iOS software.
If none of the above do what you need, then do the following:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Ipad went into recovery mode during ios8 update , how do i sort it?

My hubby ( god rest his soul!!) has just updated my ipad to ios8 but it immediately sent it into recovery mode , how do i resolve this?

Connect the iPad to your computer by its cable, and your computer's iTunes should recognise that an iPad in recovery mode has been connected to it and let you reset it back to factory defaults - you can then restore to your last backup, or just resync your content to it.

  • My ipod has gone into recovery mode for no reason at all

So I was in Sri Lanka for the past 2 months volunteering, and I took my ipod with me. My camera was unfortunately out of action from day one, so I used my (very crappy) ipod camera to take photos for the entire time that I was in Sri Lanka.
I had been there almost two months, I was in the last week of my stay when my ipod all of a sudden turns itself off when I was using it. It wouldn't come back on, and it was fully charged. I even tried plugging it in but it did nothing. It wouldn't come back on for two days, and then I tried it and it just says 'connect to itunes'. So I got home yesterrday and plugged it into itunes, and it says that my ipod is in recovery mode and has to be restored. However, if I restore it, I will lose ALL of my photos from Sri Lanka!!
I have tried googling this problem for a while and can't seem to find a solution. My home button does not work which is another pain.
But can someone please help me and tell me a way to save my photos?! I don't care about anything else, I cannot lose those photos They obviously aren't backed up either because I didn't have my computer at any point in Sri Lanka so it hasn't been connected to an itunes at any point in those photos being taken.
    Thanks.

You iPod encounter and error. That happens sometimes.
Unless one of these programs will kick the iPod out of recovery mode all information on the iPod is lost
