Update service on 64bit Windows 7: What is DN 2.0??

Well, I finally fixed the NI update service so it can successfully run on W7 (See here!)
The update installer tells me it
cannot install
DN 2.0 x86 Installer (Incompatible with 64-bit platform).
Well that's cryptic!
Is this an essential component?
What happens if this cannot be installed? Any drawbacks?
Why no details? A 2 letter product name is not very descriptive.

That much I found too.
Well everything seems to work (just updated to 2010f2 (32 and 64 bit) and the DAQMX patch, so I am not really worried. Maybe 64bit W7 already has a better and newer NET or equivalent already present. ... Or maybe the computer will self-destruct in 30 minutes....
I simply don't like these scary dialogs offering no explanation.

  • OSX Server 3 Failed to Update Services, Reboot Fails now

I upgraded my Mini Server to Mavericks, then installed the Server 3 upgrade (paid $19.99).  The installation hangs during "Updating Services" and most windows become unresponsive.  Remains in that state for hours.  I lost patience and rebooted from a remote ssh session.  Now the server doesn't reboot.  I restored back to 10.8.5.
Has anyone encountered and resolved this condition?
To be precise, during the Update Services process, the gauge stops at the "d" in Updating... label.

I had the same problem. Finally found a solution that appears to work fine.
Using any free app uninstaller, remove "server" from your applications and remove it and all of its related files.
    Empty the trash.
Restart your Mac holding down the 'shift' key. This puts you in safe mode.
Go to the Apple app store and re-download the "server" app.It will ,et you do this, becuase it cannot find a copy of the app anyplace on your computer.
After downloading and installation, configure the 'server' app following its commands.
Restart as usual .... presto ... works!
You can then re-configure as required.

  • Windows Update Service keeps turning back on

I have Windows Update service stopped and Disabled in my image. It doesn't turn back on upon every reboot I attempt.
However, once I use it in an OSD to apply image and carry out my OSD task sequence, every single time the Windows Update service now shows as "Started" with Startup Type configured as "Automatic (Delayed Start)".
I'm not showing anything in my setupcomplete.cmd that indicates this server should be turned on. I'm not seeing anything in OSD that indicates this should be turned on.
maybe I am missing something though. Is SCCM configured to turn services back on for me or should I be looking somewhere else to see why?
There's no GPO for Windows Update in the AD I'm on either

So this was what was enabling our Windows Update Service every day. To prevent this from happening we can exclude clients from remediation via a Registry change on the client:
    1.      Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\CCM\CcmEval\NotifyOnly.
    2.      Change the value to True
When set to True, the client computer will not automatically remediate any problems that are found, however you will still be alerted in the Monitoring workspace
about any problems with this client. More information and alternate methods for disabling remediation on selected machines can be found athttp://blogs.technet.com/b/seanm/archive/2012/12/20/configuration-manager-client-health-disable-automatic-remediation-for-selected-machines.aspx
When set to False (the default setting), the client computer will automatically remediate problems when they are found and you will be alerted in the Monitoring workspace. For more information see How
to Configure Client Status in Configuration Manager at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh338432.aspx.
Yes that's the blog entry I have linked to. It will do what you require.

  • Windows Update Service Disabled - Error 80070422

    Hi,
On Windows Vista Ultimate SP1, when I go to Windows Update I see a "Check For Updates" button. When I click it I get an 80070422 error and "Try Again" button which does not work.
I have tried all that is explained in Help on this error, but it's still not working. Let me write in more detail: I opened "Administrative Tools", went to "Services", "Windows Update" service is disabled. I set the "Startup Type" to "Automatic", click on Apply and then I click the "Start" button to start the service. I get an error: 1058: "Windows could not start the Windows Update service on Local Computer", "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it".
I downloaded "WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" and installed it, hoping that the problem will be fixed, but no luck.
I read somewhere on this forum that a user faced a similar problem and searched in "Windows\System32" for "wu*.*" files and changed the security settings for all of them to allow SYSTEM and Administrators full control and re-registered through "regsvr32" all of the .dll files, but, after doing all of these I still had no luck.
My Windows Update still displays the error 80070422 and when I try to start the Windows Update service I get the error that the service cannot be started and it always sets itself on "Disabled", no matter what I do.
Could someone please help me with this problem? I really don't know what else to do.

Seems this was the problem. Thanks again, mate, your post was a life saver.

  • ConfigMgr 2012R2 / Software Update feature - Windows Update Service on clients

    Hi,
ConfigMgr 2012R2 / Software Update feature.
Is it necessary that the Windows Update Service on clients is running???
    Thanks

It doesn't have to be running Automatic if that's what you're asking, but it shouldn't be
Disabled either. The ConfigMgr client will trigger it to scan for updates. For a nice documentation about the whole process see:

  • SBS 2011 Update services shows unknown for Windows 7 64 bit pc added to network

Our company has SBS 2011 and I've added a Windows 7 64 bit pc to our network. Now the update service on the console says Unknown. What service needs to be started on the pc to communicate updates to the server?

    Hi Diane,
How did we join the Windows 7 client to the network? How did we install the Windows 7 client?
At this moment, we can refer to the thread below to troubleshoot the issue.

Does anyone know what these are?
    and what they are for?
    Thanks

That looks normal to me. What version did you have before? The layout of the Firefox cache folder changed some time ago so that more files could be accommodated (i.e., to keep performance acceptable because Windows slows down with huge numbers of files in a single directory).

  • Is there a way to change the Windows Update service startup type on Windows Server 2012 R2?

We have a number of newly built 2012 R2 servers that we have HP Operations Manager agent running on that monitors the status of several services and reports if they are "stopped". One of these services is Windows Update. Every day we
get at least one alert saying:
"Service "Windows Update" is not started. Current state is stopped"
Checking the event logs shows that the Windows Update service stops, then a while later it just starts again. Not an error, just an information event.
In Windows 2012 R2 the Windows Update service is set to "Automatic (Trigger Start)", where in previous versions we run (2012/2008R2) it would be set to just "Automatic" or "Automatic (Delayed Start)"
I have come to understand that this behaviour is normal for Windows 2012 R2, and that Trigger Start services by design stop themselves after a period of inactivity. I was unable to find any info on how this works. Our client would like this to
be changed and the Windows Update service stay running all the time, understanding that this impacts performance.
Is there a way to change the Windows Update service in Server 2012 R2 to the old Automatic startup behaviour so that it stays running all the time instead of stopping and starting periodicall? There is no option to do this via the services mmc
    gui.
    So far I have tried:
Removing the Triggers using the command: sc triggerinfo wuauserv delete
This works temporarily, the service then shows as just Automatic in the services console, however if you restart the server or restart the service it goes right back to being Automatic (Trigger Start).
Any kind of help would be appreciated.

    This one might help.

PLEASE HELP ME, WHAT CAN I DO??? In Argentina is too expensive an iPhone 4S. Please I need help to continue believing in Apple. Thanks a lot. If anybody speak spanish better.

Was it purchased from an official Apple Store, not a reseller?  Only Apple Stores sell official factory unlocked phones.  The others sell hacked to unlock phones, and the unlocking is unstable.
    Try these steps, as needed:
    1. Reset phone - press both home and on/off buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
    2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    3. Replace SIM card (and reset network settings again)
    4. Restore Phone in iTunes using a backup
    5. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup

  • Error while installing the BAM Updater Service in Windows

    Hi all,
I am getting an error while installing the BAM updater service in Windows. When i type the "oraclebpmdatawarehouse install " command in the command prompt it gives error as follows:

Please can anyone tell me how to get rid of this error.
I have already done everything else like setting the database and other things.
    Thanks.

From the error message you specified, I guess you are trying to install MS Office SP2 package. If you are then its not MS Office package its just a Service Pack; something like a patch. You need to install a Full Base package first. Again, as mentioned by Rajiv - refer to MS Support

    Hi sahgin,
The issue eventually resolved itself, I still don't really know why. I kept up with Windows update, and attempted downloading iTunes again from the Apple website, and it just... worked. It now works fine. I don't know why it took approximately 4 months to work, though.
I'm sorry I don't have any more helpful information. Posting here was my last resort, and clearly Apple never bothered to reply.

  • What are the differences between the Caching and the Software Update Services

New to working with OS X Server and am confused about the differences between the Caching Service and the Software Update Service...it seems to me that they overlap in that i) the Caching Service updates OS X software, iOS software and any apps purchased from the app store while ii) the Software Update service updates OS X software.
If the above is correct they why would one run both Services?  I would think that one would run the Caching Service and call it a day!
And while on the subject, what about caching and pushing third party apps like MS Office?

    Linc Davis wrote:
The simple answer is that you almost certainly don't need the Software Update service. Just use the Caching service. Neither one works with content that doesn't come from Apple.
Appreciate the response but could you please explain the difference between the two as that is the one item that remains unanswered.
    Thanks,
