Update stalling

On my ipad, I have 2 apps in my update list, that simply won't update. I keep tapping update when I'm in good wifi areas (home and work) and they never update. All my other apps update and leave the list no problem, but these two stay. I have tried deleting the apps, no good. I have restarted the iPad about 3 times, no good. Not sur

Oh!!! I just did it... thanks for your help, but it wouldn't work that way. I went into purchases, tapped on the actual app icon in there to bring up that apps info, tapped on the icon of the app in that window which kicked the blue update line into gear - magically! Thanks for your time all of you!

MagicMenu Enabler is a product developed by the
people who make Stuffit. From the above log it
appears that it might be compromising your system,
and possibly contributing to the problem you are
seeing.
Go to your Main Library>InputManagers folder and
remove the MagicMenuEnabler plug-in (for the time
being move it to your desktop).
Then restart Safari.
Post back
Thanks, Joseph. Tried it last night on my laptop and it didn't help. I still have lots of similar error messages not related to Stuffit. I am getting frustrated. Sometimes Safari is OK, but I have great difficulty logging in to secure sites like my bank and brokerage accounts. Software Update still stalls. Sometimes I have difficulty logging into this site. But, some websites load OK. I can access all of them on my Windows computer in my office.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Some general advice on updating Leopard:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.

If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.

To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

• IOS Update stalled during install...should I reboot?

Doing a required update to the software on my mac mini (so I could then update the ios on my iphone4s)  seems that the update stalled during the 'installing files' step.  Should I power off and try again?  Help...

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

• 10.5.2 Update stalls during writing package reciepts

The 10.5.2 Update stalled (Froze) writing package receipts. I ended up doing a hard restart. It restarted, rebooted a second time & I got to the Desktop. Apple Menu/About this Mac says I have 10.5.2. System Preferences/Software Update/Installed Updates does not show the update. Only the iLife Support 8.2. I cloned the 10.5.1 System with SuperDuper just prior to the update. Should I clone back my previous system & try the update again or is there something else I should try first.

Ended up moving my cloned backup, back over to my Mac HD and running all the updates from the Apple download page instead of Software Update. They all went smoothly.

• PWM duty cycle update stalls

Hello
I want to output a variable pulse width modulated signal via counters. The duty cylce should follow a sine or triangle pattern from 10 to 90 percent.
Problem: When I observe the ctr output with an oscilloscope, I see that the update stalls, i.e. for some time, the output is seamlessly variable as expected, but then, update stalls and jumps to a new duty cycle to continue variable again.
I tried several different approaches,
-for-loop with wait ms- timing and single sample,
-timed loops with single sample and
      -pulse train ouptut via DaqMX-Write-Counter-n-Samples.
Albeit to no avail. In any case, I get jumps in the PWM duty cycle instead of smooth transitions.
System is either cDAQ 9174 or PXI with 6602. As system load is 99% idle state, I can't imagine the OS at fault.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hello, Frank
After looking through some documentation, I think that I need RT-HW for what I want.
6602 cards have STC-2 without buffer, so updating duty cycle is OS-limited. Even in timed loops there is no guarantee that update will run at the specified rate of 1/140 sec. I'll probably just get an error for untimely execution....
With STC-3 based counters (such as cDAQ9074 or X.series PXI 6361) I can load 127 values into buffer which will be processed smoothly but on renewal of samples (every 127/140 sec), I get stalls again, since the OS seems to consider my request inappropriate. I was surprised to find that USB vs PXI does not change the behaviour, though I'd have expected better latency from PXI.
Attached, please find a VI to get an impression of what I tried out. Pardon for code ugliness.
I still hope that I maybe have missed something simple to get running with what HW I got
Best regards
Michael

• Software update stalling at "configuring installation"

hey all,
i purchased my wonderful macbook last december and have had no problems with it until recently.
my internet connection at home is such that large software updates are ignored until i can get to an area with decent wifi capabilities. i am at such a place, but the software update (6 items including OS update - could be 7 with iTunes update) stalls out once the update starts to configure the insallation. i closed down all open applications and it has been sitting there for over an hour. what gives? i cannot force quit because the computer has iso'd itself into the update. the only way to get out of this current situation is to force a shutdown.
any ideas?

i would really love to post a pic of paul dooley from strange brew when he is on the stand waffling over the question of explaining what a "timecode" is ...
nonetheless, i did reboot before trying the latest update but ... didn't backup. in the future, i will be a little more thoughtful with regards to updates, but i have not gotten around to thinking about backups yet. still relatively new to the concept of having my own computer.
anyways, checking on my macbook, it's still claiming to be "configuring installation" but the status bar has grown/moved/become larger so, there might be hope.
thanks for replying and i will get back when/if the update is a success/failure.

• Updating Stalled Process Post ES2 Upgrade

I just upgraded our server from 8.2 to ES2 SP2.  I had several active process instances before the upgrade that I'm testing post upgrade.
The process I'm testing uses a Query Single Row Operation which is stalling.  It's stalling because I don't have a required parameter(Data Mapping) defined.  This parameter was not required in 8.2 so it worked fine.
So I fixed that issue with the process(after creating an application and importing the process), and attempted a retry on the process, but that is not working.  Livecycle continues to use the invalid version of the process that does not specify the required parameter when I attempt a retry.
So, my question is how can I update the "active" version of the upgraded process and retry the stalled process instances?

The "deploy" option in the application version menu is apparently what I was looking for.

• Camera Raw 6.7 Update Stalls at 6.5%

I've tried downloading the update via photoshop, but the progress bar gets to 6.5% and then stalls. My computer also runs incredibly slow and I can't navigate to anything without a long wait time. After a while I've just shut my computer down the hard way using the power button. I've tried this about 10 times with the same outcome. I tried to manually intall from Adobe.com but it gave me an error message that my applications manager is corrupted and I must download a new version, which I've already done.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium. 64 bit
CS5

Unfortunately, there is no adobe camera raw plugin that works in cs5 that will allow you to open your Canon Digital Rebel SL1 EOS 100D EOS Kiss X7 files directly in to photoshop cs5.
(camera raw 6.7 is the newest version that works in cs5 and you need at least camera raw 7.4)
Besides updating to a newer version of photoshop, you could use the 8.6 DNG Converter to convert the SL1 files to dng copies, which should then open in photoshop cs5.

I just updated my MacBook to Yosemite and now my iPhoto update is stalled. I can't cancel the update but I don't want to delete the app because all my photos are on it. How can i fix this?

Why can't you drag the iPhoto appellation to the Trash bin?  You should be able to but will be asked for your Admin password.
Or try holding down the Command key and then drag the app to the Trash  bin.

• Automatic update stalls at conecting to update server (Mac)

The last several times the automatic update window comes up it says "downloading firefox" on the top of the progress bar and under it it says "connecting to update server..." and it stalls right there and never gets any further no matter how long I leave the update window open. I currently have Mac 7.0.1 installed and it has not been successful in getting past that point multiple times over multiple days. Now what? If I download a new firefox don't I then lose all my bookmarks, etc.? Updating is the only way to keep them - correct?
My mac system is OX 10.5.8

I found how to copy my bookmarks in case I'd lose them doing a separate install of the program and then manually downloaded version 8 point whatever it is that is most current. It then wouldn't copy to my applications folder to install!! (downloaded fine, went to drag it in the install window and it wouldn't do it). Is the problem that version of the mac ox 10.5.8 is now ancient enough that programs are starting not to work with them? Other? A gremlin now inhabits my mac? (I did run a virus, etc. checker and allegedly my mac is clean).

• Are the Adobe Servers down? My CC update stalls at 6% and says my computer can't connect to the servers - Adobe help was an absolute joke trying to help.

Tried using Adobe's "support team" to help figure this out. What an absolute waste of time. The clown was literally reading off a script and wouldn't answer me when I asked if the servers were down. Creative cloud installer won't update. Stalls at 6% and gives me an error. Error code 207. This is ridiculous. I can't download any programs. It won't update CC... good move with this cloud garbage Adobe. This is beyond frustrating.
Thanks for the awesome day of getting absolutely nothing done Adobe! Can't wait to hear it from my boss about no productivity today.

• Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update Stall

Software Update successfully downloaded the new 10.5.7 Leopard update. Once complete, Computer needed Restart. After Restart it began to Install the update. Whilst installing it stalled for about 20 minutes, minimum. No advance in the window whatsoever. After about 30 min of no progress, I forced Shut down. Restarted the computer, it went to blue screen, then to Gray, restarted itself again, and eventually landed on the log in screen. Logged in, checked current Version, and it stated the new update. No way was it finished. I then went to the "Go to Folder" in Finder, typed in /Library/Updates and there it was. The entire folder and a Plist. It should have only been the Plist visible. This tells me it wasn't complete. Is it safe to say I should toss the contents in the Trash and download the update from the site directly and attempt again?
Any ideas, advice...please tell. Thank you

Dreaz,
It's a little different this time around and not as intuitive as it should be, here is what to do. Go to:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_7_ComboUpdate
and download the update.
After your iMac restarts it may hang on a blue screen, wait about 5 minutes to give it time and then hold down the power button until your machine turns off, then turn it on again and your machine should start, it will re-start 3 times. After that it's fine just log in and have fun. If you are running Safari Beta 4, after you have successfully updated to 10.5.7 run Software Update and install the new Safari Beta 4.
