Update the Library
How do I update the library if I've made changes to the tags outside of iTunes. I don't want to delete the entire library and re-add the music folders.
Does iTunes have a way of doing this automatically, i.e. can it monitor my music folder the way Window Media Player does?

I have the same question, and I think I can articulate it better:
If song metadata is modified outside of iTunes, the suggestion was to select the song and iTunes will re-read the ID3 tags and update the info in the library.
The question is: how can this be accomplished for all tracks without having to click on each one individually? Shift-selecting all the tracks does not re-read the ID3 tracks for every selected track.

Content Viewer won't update the library
Hey guys!
Big trouble here.
After I last updated an uploaded folio, the Content Viewer on the iPad out of the sudden was not recognizing any update on that folio anymore.
So I deleted the folio from the iPad and updated the library. What happened? The folio wasn't even there to download anymore. And yes, it appears on the Folio Producer and it is active.
It's quite a big folio (+100 mb) and I have even uploaded it again with another name and still the Viewer won't show it on the library.
I have tried to upload smaller folios and it worked just fine.
Have no idea what's the problem neither the solution.
Anyone with the same problem?Problem resolved, with a bit of help from Adobe Support. It was Websense, our organizations web content filter. This is what I got from Adobe Support, which I sent to the IT guys.
In order for the content viewer on the iPad to work and bypass the network, make sure this two Adobe domain/url is allowed through the network.

IPhoto wants to update the library EVERY time it is launched
Upgraded to iPhoto 11 this morning. Now, every time I open iPhoto, it wants to update the library.
So, there is a 20+ minute delay between opening iPhoto and being able to actually use it.
Argh.I've given up on iLife 11 and am reverting to iLife 09.
I have to re-import all my photos to iLife 09, because iPhoto 11 bloated my library (from ~500Gb to over a TB) to much that Time Machine dumped the old backups.
You see, when iPhoto "rebuilds" the library, Time Machine feels compelled to back up the entire thing every time.
So all my old backups were lost.
I'm so pleased with the new iLife, I could vomit blood. -

HELP!!! iTunes 7.1 upgrade for MAC its crashing before updating the library
I can't open iTunes after the update to 7.1, when I launch iTunes, it starts updating the iTunes library and before the progress bar is finished quits. I tried everything with no luck. Something is very wrong with the new version of iTunes 7.1 for Mac's I have used iTunes since the first version and I never had an issue with it, until today.
I can not access iTunes, any one has any suggestions? I've run out of ideas. I also did a reinstall of iTunes 7.1 to no avail.

Help! My iTunes shuts down when it "updates the library"
I just installed whatever the latest software update was. Now, when I try to open itunes, a message comes up with a progress bar and a message saying "Updating iTunes Library". You cannot say cancel. About 3/4 of the way through, The Progress bar stops and the program freezes. I have to manually go into Windows Task Manager and shut it down because it doesn't resp0ond. Does any one know what to do?!?!?
Same problem. This is the 3rd time this has happened to me when upgrading iTunes. All the previous fixes i've tried do not work this time. I've tried everything in this article - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856.

Any way to update the library automatically?
As amazing as it sounds, I only recently tried Itunes for Windows after using Windows Media Player for years.
Is there any way to have the library update automatically when I download music files to my music folder the way WMP does, without having to import them?The lack of a watch folder is probably to avoid people setting the download folder of thier PvP program as watched. Anything you purchase from the iTunes music store will go directly into iTunes, anything you rip from CDs using iTunes will also go their automatically. Almost all other purchased music is protected WMA which won't even play in iTunes. So the only songs that won't go directly are the fairly uncommon legal mp3 downloads, and all the illegal ones. (and I know about all the legal FLAC stuff out there, but that will have to be converted as well, since iTunes doesn't support FLAC).

My iPhoto get's stuck in updating the library
I've not been able to open iPhoto since upgrading to Lion. Everytime I try to sync or open iPhoto, it tries to update all the photos, but even 8 hours after beginning, it is still giving me the spinning wheel. I've finally been able to see the menu on the left, but it's still unresponsive. What do I do. It's one pic away from being updated.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

How can I get iTunes to scan my library when I update new files? If I update the location of the music folder it will just give me duplicates of my music.
Every other media player I have ever used has an update button that actively scans...
I am not very iPod savvy...iTunes does not have any sort of folder watching/scanning capability. It assumes that you will add all of your music through iTunes.
There is a program called iTunes Folder Watcher (I believe)that will do what you want. Sorry, not at my own computer so I dont' have the link. However, it should come up pretty easily if you do a search.

Aperture 3.5 can't update the library
I upgraded to Aperture 3.5 and tried to update my library. The library is quite large (80k photos, 34 GB), I started the process yesterday afternoon and after 14 hours it is still saying "Upgrading Library: scanning library". Is this normal? Will Aperture ever upgrade my library or it got stuck? How long should I wait before killing it?
Finally got it to work. Here's a brief description of my experience:
The 3.5 upgrade worked for me w/o problems until I went to open another library. I use multiple libraries and when I attempted to open another one is when I saw the "Upgrading Library: scanning library" message. All but one of my libraries opened and updated w/o issue. At 13.5 GB, the one problem library wasn't the largest one but the scanning message stayed up for 22 hours. Aperture didn't show as "not responding" so I thought it was doing something. A look at Activity Monitor > Energy showed that Aperture listed four sub-items and one of those was "Not Responding" it was 'QTKitServer-(1632) Aperture (Not Responding)."
For what it's worth- I use managed libraries.
--here's what worked for me--
I forced quit Aperture then reopened. A dialog box appeared stating "There was an error opening the database for the library..."
I pressed Quit.
Reopened - holding down the Command and Option keys.
The "Photo Library First Aid" dialog box appeared.
I selected 'Repair Database' and pressed Repair.
I followed the instructions on the following dialog boxes.
Eventually the "Upgrading Library: scanning library" message appeared again for only a few seconds.
The library opened and it seems to be functioning normally.
I hope this helps you if you're still having problems with upgrading your library to v3.5.
My next step would have been to try to open the library with iPhoto.
Not a good experience since I thought all adjustments to the library was lost. I have a backup library but I didn't try to open it.
I've been an Aperture user since v2.0, and this has been the worst "library upgrade" experience.
I'm beginning to have second thoughts about my future with Aperture. It has been a good fit with my workflow but it's times like this when I'm looking closer at other solutions. -

If you use the 'keep' and 'copy' functions and do all your work from within iTunes then it is hard to go wrong.

I used to be able to cull in lightroom in the survey mode but the delay is too slow.I returned to previous 5.5 version of lightroom and it still has the same symptoms. Very slow in library and survey mode. I tried it on various catalogs with the same result. I purged the cache it did not seem to help. Are there any other ideas?

I go to save a picture (bu holding my finger down on the image, then pressing save image, when the option comes up), and then go to the photos to view the picture, its says updating library and takes about a minute to finish loading and rebuilding/updating the library. After it has finished updating the library I cannot view the picture I saved because it comes up as a picture of a grey camera that says JPG (I assume this is some sort of file, because if i save multiple pictures only one JPG, gery camera image shows up.) My ipod never used to do this. Any idea on how to fix it?
