Update to 1.1.2 failed, now I cant restore

I bought a used ipod touch with 1.1.1 firmware, but while it was preparing for the update to 1.1.2 it stopped and and told me that it had encountered an unknown error (1604).
Now I cant restore the ipod. Everytime I connect it to my mac in itunes it asks me to restore it, and when I press "restore" it starts the process and starts to prepare it for the restoration, but after a few minutes where it just says " preparing for restoration" it stops and tells me that I have encountered and unknown error.
I run itunes 7.5.
Hvad can I do fix it?
Help would be most appreciated

Hello,
Try the things in this article:

I realize it's for the iPhone but these are very similar devices in many respects.
