Update to 10.5.7 broke AirPort?

I have never experienced this before updating to 10.5.7. Now when I'm connected to my wireless network with my Macbook, and as soon as I turn my iPhone on, and it connects to the same network, the Macbook looses connection immediately.
Well, the wireless is still connected, you can browse other network resources, it just looses connection to the internet. Absolutely weird.

I also have this issue, but like the other responder I haven't noticed any correlation to other devices connecting to the network (though that might be the case, since I don't know how many people share this network).
I have great signal strength, and when it's working, I get very high network speeds. However, suddenly my traffic will stop, yet my network remains connected with full signal strength.
I can fix it instantly by just clicking the airport menu, and as soon as it rescans for networks, my traffic starts again. I can also get it running again by typing this in Terminal:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/A/Resources/airp ort -s
But it's still very annoying because it's completely unpredictable, and sometimes will happen over and over every couple of minutes, interrupting file transfers and making me miss chat messages.
I reset PRAM and deleted preferences, and it seemed to improve slightly, but is still a major problem. My old powerbook, still running 10.4, is completely unaffected, and my MBP was behaving completely fine before the 10.5.7 update.

  • Security Update 2008-001 broke AirPort!

Forgive the lengthy post... I think I already know the answer to this question, but I'm throwing it out there in case others are having difficulty with the same or similar problems.
I have a G3/900 iBook with maxed-out RAM, running 10.4.11. It had all the software updates available in 2007, and was connected to a US Robotics B/G router running in mixed mode. AirPort worked fine under WEP with 128-bit authentication (26 hex digits).
The US Robotics router gave up the ghost and was replaced by a similarly configured Linksys router. Same authentication, same mixed mode. I have two other wireless PC laptops and all were swimming along happily in the sea of data.
Then I updated iBook to Security Update 2008-001. The description in Software Update doesn't say anything about AirPort fixes being included, just a generic "you really need to download this" message.
Now, whenever I restart the machine, my AirPort card connects to my router, but instead of accepting the DHCP settings pushed down by the router, en1 adopts an APIPA (Automated Private Internet Protocol Address). The router's web-based utility shows that it's matched up the MAC address of the AirPort card and assigned it an IP. Doesn't make a difference whether I set it to static or dynamic, I have to restart TWICE, and manually turn AirPort off and back on the second time it boots up, in order for the TCP/IP stack to get it right. The other two Windows PCs, as much of a pain they were to configure initially, have no problem booting right up and connecting to the router.
I have reseated the AirPort card and cable to no avail. When it's connected, the signal is great - I can go down the block with this little white box - so I am relatively sure it's not a short in the AirPort antenna loop. The only configuration item that's changed is SU 2008-001.
Is there anything left I can try but back up my data and do an archive-and-install of Tiger?
    Thanks,
    Josh R.

I've seen scant evidence of this with some Routers & WEP connections.
Hard to tell which of these files is doing it, but since some files help recreate others, it may be best to drag all of these to the Desktop & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
Then there's the Keychain Access reference to this connection that may need deleting & redoing, and also the plists tied to that MAC addy, which are generally of the form...
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist

  • Updating Firmware on an older version Airport Express

Does anyone have an answer to updating the firmware of an older  version Airport Express. The new Airport utility 6.3.2 will not allow me to make changes to my Airport Express from 6 years back.

Apple has not updated the firmware on the older AirPort Express models in over 6 years, so chances are you already have the most recent firmware installed on your Express.
Apple has dropped support of the older AirPort Express models in AirPort Utility 6.x versions, so you will need to use a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC if you need to administer the older Express that you have.

  • Any idea on an update on 7.5.2 for airport extreme

Does anyone know if there will be an update to 7.5.2 for airport extreme?

The latest firmware for the Extreme is 7.5.2

  • Updated to 10.5.1 and Airport STILL broken

    So my story:
I clean installed Leopard on an external HD, but network preferences would not recognise my wireless network or any of the other five I can usually see from here. However, when I am presented with Network Diagnostics option I can see all the wireless networks I would expect, and am able to log into mine. Problem was if the computer sleeps, or if I tinker with the Network Preferences, the connection drops again.
I installed the keychain and login update. The problem persisted but in a slightly different form.
I restarted after the update and the airport indicator icon reports as turn off - just the empty shape, no signal. The menu dropping down from there shows all the wireless networks in the area EXCEPT mine.
Network preferences seems to report on OK connection. Network diagnostics says there is a problem.
So there I was with no apparent connection and no way to navigate different wireless networks, yet I am able to post here in Leopard.
Now I have installed 10.5.1. I've zapped the PRAM, and repaired permissions, but there is no change in state in Airport. I still have to force it to connect through network diagnostics after every restart.

Another clue: I had the exact same problem when I updated my BlacBook to 10.4.11
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1241227&start=0&tstart=0
In Leopard - even after a reformat and virgin install - it did the same thing: cut out every few minutes and lose the network connection. In Airport Utility under Leopard it can't even find my ABS (older, not Extreme), though oddly enough it can connect - briefly - before dropping again and then reconnecting, over and over.
Booting from a 10.4.10 partition with the laptop in the same physical location results in very strong signal and perfect WiFi connection.
This leads me to believe a core piece of system code changed in 10.4.11 and was carried over into Leopard (or perhaps vice versa, given the timing of the Tiger update). So it's back to 10.4.10 for me until/unless this gets fixed.

  • How do you update the firmware on 1st Gen Airport Extreme in OSX Mountain Lion?

A friend gave me a old but never used 1st Gen Airport Extreme 802.11n WiFi Wireless Base Station.  I have a couple WiFi dead zones in my house and was told that I could daisy chain the Apple Airport Extreme off of my Verizon FIOS router/modem (802.11G) to fill in the dead spots.  During set up the Airport Utility told me that "This version of AirPort Utility requires this AirPort Extreme use firmware version 7.3.1 or later.  Go to AirPort Service and Support (link) for more information.
I updated the Airport Utility to the latest version (6.2) and I am still getting the same error message and no other option to update it's firmware.  Anyone know of a work around or am I fighting to losing battle here.  I tried to contact Apple support, but when I entered the serial number for the Base Station it said the product was over 5 years old and didn't qualify for support service program.

was told that I could daisy chain the Apple Airport Extreme off of my Verizon FIOS router/modem (802.11G) to fill in the dead spots
Not sure what you mean by "daisy chain".  The AirPort Extreme cannot "repeat" or "extend" the wireless signal from the FIOS router if you are planning to do this using wireless only.
You always need at least 2 Apple routers to be able to "extend a wireless network" using wireless only. The Apple routers would not be compatible with FIOS routers for this type of purpose.
If you can connect the AirPort Extreme to the FIOS router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, then the AirPOrt could be configured to provide more wireless signal coverage that way. If you cannot run the cable, it might be possible to use a pair of Ethernet powerline adapters to send a signal over the existing AC power lines in your home.
When you open AirPort Utility 6.x and a firmware update is available, there is usually a red number next to the AirPort Exreme icon. Click on the red number......or if it does not appear, click on the  AirPort Extreme icon and then hold down the option key on a Mac as you click on the Version number that is is displayed to see more "options".

  • Updating the firmware of an older airport extreme

I have an early version of the Airport extreme and, probably 1st gen airport express.  Is there anyway to update the firmware on these devices so that they have the most recent firmware versions available to those devices. The only identifying info on them is their model numbers.
On the express it is Model# A1084 and on the Extreme it is Model # A 1034.  I realize that these are older units and don't expect much from them, just would like to be able to do it.

The most recent firmware update for both devices that you mention was 8+ years ago, so you likely already have the most up to date firmware that the devices can handle.
5.7 would be the latest firmware for the AirPort Extreme and 6.3 would be the latest for the Express.

  • Updating to 10.6.8 broke my installer

When I attempted to update my little pile of Macs to OS X 10.6.8, one of them, my Macbook (Early 2009), for unknown reasons came up not installing, after a lot of time on the phone trying everything else, finally had to reinstall OS 10.6(.0) and re-upgrade. The opinion of Apple Support was that the installer broke during the upgrade(?). No third party apps were damaged and hardware was OK. The Macbook Pro, MacPro and MacMini all updated fine.
It's probably past time to say goodbye to SL...

    You're right...
Apple really screwed up the sound, even when using their own application... i tried DVD player.app, and it plays 2.0 AC3 and 5.1 AC3 fine.. but after stop playing DVD, stereo digital output is dead..

  • Can't connect to software update and other online services with airport

Hello, hopefully someone can help with this problem. When going to use software update using airport I get an error message saying there is a network problem and it can't connect. Also, when trying to use Microsoft Messenger it can't connect either way.
I can connect and use the internet using airport and apps such as iChat and Entourage work.
Can someone tell me why I can't connect to Apple's Software update service through airport?
    Thanks

Is your network configuration something like the following:
DSL/Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN] AirPort Extreme Base Station > (wireless) > MacBook?
...and, if so, you are able to get to Software Update when connecting your MB directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the LAN port of the AEBS...correct?
Since, you stated that you are using port forwarding, I assume that you have setup your MB with a static IP. Do you have any Proxies setup on either/both your Ethernet or AirPort connections on the MB?

  • Cannot update firmware on a brand new Airport Express

I just got a AirportExpress base station to extend the wireless range of my Airport Extreme (Gigabit Ethernet). I hooked everything up and configured my network. I ran the firmware update for the AExtreme and it worked. For some reason the same thing can't be done on the Airport Express. The updater just idles for a while and returns an error code (-6722).
    How do I fix this.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK, you have proven to yourself that you are not losing speed over Ethernet.
Wireless is half science and half voodoo.
Sometimes, having a laptop very close to a wireless router will overload it, causing a drop in speed.
There may be a "hidden" network at a house near you, which is causing interference. This will not show up on most scanners
Could be a cordless phone in the area causing difficulty. Won't show on a most scanners.
Could be a wireless camera/security system at a house nearly causing some issues. Won't show on most scanners
Could be a USB3 hard drive doing the same
Could be a BlueTooth device.....wireless mouse, keyboard, headphones....doing the same
Could be gremlins.  I have them here at times.
You could try another Express.  Might be better, might be worse. Expect anything.

  • Update 5.5.1 and latest Airport Extreme

Has anyone installed this on the latest version of the Airport Extreme (MC340LL/A, Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station - Simultaneous Dual-Band)? I ask because I had problems installing the Extreme back in January, and it turned out I had to use the software on the accompanying CD rather than the then current version of Airport Utility available online. Can I assume that this version works on all flavors of the Extreme?

Airport Utility 5.5.1 with firmware version 7.5.1 appears to work fine with Airport Extreme Simultaneous Dual Band II and Airport Expresses with firmware version 7.4.2.
Apple recommends "that AirPort Utility 5.5.1 or later be installed before updating to Firmware version 7.5.1" (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL965).

  • Installing updated firmware to a newly purchased Airport Express

I recently purchased a new Airport Express and just got notice that there is a new firmware upgrade that should be applied. The information that came with the Express is not very forthcoming. I tried searching for information here in the forums on procedures for applying the upgrade but have notice a few folks having issues.
My guess is that I just connect it to the my macbook and download the update. Is there any steps I need to take.
Thanks in advance for all assistance.

By default, when you open the AirPort Utility, it will check to see if the AirPort device has the latest firmware ... and, if not, it will offer you an opportunity to upgrade it. The decision is totally up to you. If you don't want the utility to check each time, you can disable that option. (ref: AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > File > Preferences)

  • Updated to 3.6.4 - broke my Firefox?!?

3.6.4 update broke my Firefox?!? Firefox won't load a single page but Chrome and IE are fine.

Which Firefox version did you have before the update?
You can only have permanent tabs if they are locked by an extension. So if it isn't working then you need to see if there is an update of that extension that works with Firefox 3.6

  • Firmware update 7.2.1 and now airport extreem won't work

I did the firmware update for 7.2.1 the other day and ever since the airport extreme base station keeps resetting itself over and over again then I unplug it for a few hours and plug it back in and its ok for a while then it does it again. When it is doing this I cannot connect to it with the airport utility and when I finaly get connected I try to put the firmware for 7.1.1 back and it just sits at 0% forever.
I'd realy apreciate some help with this. I have guests here and none of us can get to the internet and its getting frustrating as heck!

did you try to reset your base?
This is helpful in some cases.
    You will find instructions here:

    Please be patient.
Attention: Resetting your base will erase all of it's settings!
