Update to 10.6.7 "writing files" for 14 hours?
How do I get it to finish? Can I stop it somehow without messing up my computer?

As an experiment, last night I booted back into safe mode, and one of the applications that wouldn't run started up fine.
I also ran a check of the fonts in the Font Book, and it said that they all came up fine.
I'm starting to think the writing is on the wall, that I'll have to wipe the drive and reinstall.

When trying to complete the tutorial for indesign I get the following error when trying to add an article to my folio:
"An error has occurred while updating article layouts. The InDesign file for the layout cannot be found."
I am able to create the folio then I click into articles. My document "WiFi_v.indd" is open when clicking add article, but I keep getting this error message.
I am using the following versions of the software (Should be the latest).

Also tried reinstalling the plugins (uninstall + install)If you're on Mac OS with the OS in another language than english the "User" folder might contain a non english character and causing problems.
I e in Sweden the Mac OS user-folder is called "Användare". When attempting uploading articles from a file locaded anywere this "Användare" is in the file path the Folio producer says Error finding InDesign layout, due to -what i think is-the "ä" in Användare. If you still want to work local you can place the InDesign files directly into the Macintosh HD. In this case the User folder is not used.

Why did the latest update (31.1.2) delete database files for primary email account in profile?
After restarting TB to apply the 31.1.2 update, all of the database files for my primary email account were apparently deleted. Restarting TB again got it to start syncing with the IMAP server again, but it has to download around 100,000 messages again because of this. Was this a design decision or is there a problem with the update itself? And why did it only affect my primary email account and leave the other 4 (much smaller ones) unscathed?

Account5 is the one affected which is still attempting to sync. It also appears that my sync choices were altered without permission or notification. I always keep the Deleted folder and the POP subfolder from Hotmail accounts disabled since it is merely duplicating content in other folders. When re-checking the sync settings because it was taking so long, I found that the POP subfoler was selected for sync again.
The crash report is from a later TB crash, the first one ever on this system.

HT5313 The update installer is frozen while writing files(10.7.5) What do I do?
I was updating my OS to 10.7.5 via Software update. I clicked on the box to restart my computer and a icon appeared stating "writing files". It has been running over 30 min without any movement in the status bar. I'm not sure if there is a problem and it has stalled or I am not being patient enough. Never run into a situation in the past like this while installing a OS update. Suggestions?
I'd give it a bit longer but if nothng still happens you'll have no choice but to do a forced shutdown. Hopefully it'll reboot. You might then want try to update again using the 'combo' from Apple's support pages, which contains all revisions since 10.7 and will hopefully sort it out:

I just started experiencing this error when trying to update an article. I've tried deleting the article completely in the Folio Builder menu within InDesign but that doesn't seem to solve it. Anyone else experiencing this? I thought I saw a thread about it back in June but never saw a resolution.
Thanks.UPDATE: I just deleted the article and instead of clicking "Add" at the bottom of the Folio Builder, I chose import from the flyout and that seemed to work.

Is there a "file directory" I can access to determine the files that have loaded successfully and those which are to be loaded. I can't believe this should take this much time and resource ???
I've checked off the files as they have been initiated and when I am asked "Do I want to save a copy? I respond affirmatively. Is that an incorrect response on my part ????

I've been download 2 episodes from the itunes store. They have both in "processing file" mode for hours. The amount of MB of the files are complete but the downloading icon is still going. How do I get these 2 episodes to finish the processing file mode?

10.6.8 update would not finish writing files
I am trying to update my os from 10.6.7 to current 10.6.8 but the installation process ( writing files) would not finish !!
The progress bar seems to be stuck at about 95%
How do I resolve this ?

Some Users have reported that Powering down their Router/Modem... Then Powering it up again and then re-downloading the Update has worked... You could try that...

Writing a file for prescribed amount of time in a while loop after the triggering condition is met
Hello Guys,
I am trying to program an application in which if the trigger condition is met it should start to write the file.
I was able to do that, but if I want it to be written for certain amount of time, and once the trigger condition is met, it should continue to write the files for prescribed amount of time. I was not able to do this. The file name should also be updated accordingly.
I tried to with some options by keeping the creation of the file outside of the loop, if I do that then if the trigger condition is not met it will stop writing and I dont want that, as once the trigger condition is met it should be true thereafter.
So I cant keep any thing outside the while loop, bcaz then it checks the condition of the shift register for the trigger and I have it as a false constant.
I am attaching my application which is kind of mess and I have written in the application where I am having problems. For every iteration of while loop it makes a new file, and i dont want that, I want to write specific amount of time data to the each file.
Please take a look at my code and help me in solving the problem. Any insights and examples on how to do this thing will be a relief to me.

Writing files in air for android
I'm trying to create a user license agreement that will show the first time a player opens my game. I'm using a FileStream with a complete event and an IOEvent. The IOEvent is triggered the first time because the file I'm looking for doesn't exist. I then show the user agreement and write the file to the application storage directory. If I then close the game and open it a second time I expect the Complete event to fire since the file now exists but instead the IOEvent is firing again. Why isn't it finding the file and triggering the complete event? I can read the file after I create it so I know it exists at that point.

10.6.4 update stuck writing files
I downloaded 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 tonight. Download was fine, hit restart, but about 3/4 of the way through (on the status bar) while "writing files" the update appears stuck and I have the spinning beach ball of death. Not sure if I should power down and try again or not. Fortunately, I did do a full backup this morning to an external drive before trying this update
If the process hung while writing files then chances are high that you have some file system corruption as a result of that combined with the forced shutdown. To prevent that from causing any problems, I suggest that before you try reinstalling anything, start up from your Snow Leopard installer disc. but instead of installing anything, go to into its Utilities & run its copy of Disk Utility. Select your normal startup drive from the list & click the "Repair Disk" button.
If that comes up OK (or fixes any problems it finds) then you can try the update again, but personally, I would reinstall the base version of Snow Leopard from the disc (which will not overwrite your user files & settings) to make sure the update is applied to as pristine a version of the OS as possible. Note that this will require another download of the update unless your base version is already 10.6.3.
You can use Software Update for this -- it will select the appropriate version automatically, & it probably will be the equivalent of the larger 10.6.4 combo update. -
Latest update of 10.6.8 freezes while writing files
When I try to complete the latest update for 10.6.8 I follow the prompts for the restart and the update begins. Except when the files are writing, the update freezes and will not complete and I have to manually shut down my MacBook. I have tried to complete the update at least 3 times were no success. Help please!
ultimately i solved the problem by downloading the update from support directly ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1400 ) and installing it from the dmg.
but to read in the log did not seem to help /-:
had to go to View->Show log list, then mine was /private/var/log

Vi error on nfs mount; E212: Can't open file for writing
Hi all,
I've setup a umask of 0 for testing on both NFS client (Centos 5.2) and NFS server (OSX 10.5.5 server).
I can create files as one user and edit/save out as another user w/o issue when directly logged into the server via ARD.
However, when I attempt the same from an NFS mount on a client machine, even as root I get the following error using vi;
"file" E212: Can't open file for writing
Looking at the system.log file on the server, I see;
kernel[0]: add_fsevent: no name hard-link! dropping the event. (event 2 vp == 0xa5db510 (-UNKNOWN-FILE)).
This baffles me. My umask is 0 meaning files I create and attempt to edit as other users are 777, but I cannot save out edits unless I do a wq! in vi. At that point, the owner of the file changes to whomever did the vi.
This isn't just a vi issue as it happens using any editor, but I like to use vi.

I've narrowed it down to a Centos client issue.
Everything works fine using other Linux based OS's as clients.
Since we have such a huge investment in Centos, I must figure out a workaround. Apple support wasn't much help as usual however they were very nice.
There usual response is "its unsupported".
If Apple really wants to play in the enterprise of business space, they really need to change there philosophy. I mean telling me that I shouldn't mount home directories via NFS is completely rediculus.
What am I supposed to use then, Samba of AFP? No, I don't think so. No offense to Microsoft but why would I use a Windows based file sharing protocol to mount network shares in a Nix env??? -

I keep getting this error...
Cannot open "filename" file for writing. Please check the output filename and file permissions (if it already exists) and then try again.
Not sure what is going wrong here. I have scoured the web and can't find a solution.

If the clip plays on Computer X but not on Computer Y, that could indicate that X has a certain codec that's missing on Y.
What codec is the clip? What's the extension of the filename (which equates roughly to the type of wrapper)?
What are the origins of the clip? (e.g., is it straight off of a camera? or was it encoded by another program?)
Do you have AME 5.0.1 installed on both computers?

Does anyone know how to play audio cd's on the G5? It doesn't even recognize the CD and ejects it. On my older version there was an Apple CD player software on it. Is there any software like this for version 10.3.9????
