Update to 10.6.8 - system hang (mouse issue) after resume from sleep

I am on older
MacBook Pro3.1
Intel Core 2 Duo
2.6GHz
Run on 10.6.8 almost flawelessly. Shortly after upgrade to 10.6.8 system started to hang periodically after resuming from sleep. Symptoms are that it stops responding to mouse (be it touch pad or USB mouse). Keyboard seems to be ok but system doesn't seem to be fully functional. I am able to ssh from the other computer and 'shutdown -r now' after reboot system seem to be ok until next resume from sleep. What interesting though is that this problem newer manifests then I am using external monitor.

Found problem. It was due to magic mouse that I left on. I carry this mouse in the laptop bag but rarely use it. Last time I used it (around the same time I install the update) I left it on in the bag. It was apparently disconnecting/connecting on its own and by some reason sometimes was breaking touch pad and other usb mouse connected to laptop, as soon as I switched magic mouse off broblem was fixed

  • Big slowdown (hang-up actually) after resuming from hibernation (T61 & Win7)

    Hi
Recently I have noticed, that my machine is someteimes slowed down after resuming from hibernation on Windows 7 and I can't do anything. I wait one minute, two... but nothing happens. Even mouse cursor isn't moving smooth. Pressing ctrl+alt+del causes that "preparing security options..." screen appears but nothing more... So I can't run task manager. Only thing I can do is powering down & booting again laptop so actually I can say that my machine hangs up after resuming from hibernation.
I don't know if this is important, but always when it happend I was resuming system without AC connected and noticed that fan is not working.
    edit:
today it happend again. I conncected AC but it didn't help. I have noticed, that when system is in this 'near hang-up' state - plugging usb mouse doesn't even cause mouse sensor to light.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    T61 7664-R6G core 2 duo 2.1ghz, 2gb ram, windows 7 32 bit (latest updates and drivers installed).

Are you by any chance removing a LAN cable while in hibernation?
    I have a similar problem with my T61 7663-13G, Windows 7 x64 and Standby.
(Could eliminate my Minidocks and power supplies IMHO.)
But it seems like if I remove the network cable while in standby Win 7 will hang after the still successful login.
(hang = I can let the cursor jump inch by inch, but nothing else is responding.)
    - Update:
Changed the driver from my wired network card from 9.13.16.0 to 9.13.41.0 and can't reproduce my hang-ups atm.

  • Odd Keyboard/mouse failure after waking from sleep

Here's an odd problem that's been bugging me for awhile now.
Occasionally my iMac will not allow me to log in after waking from sleep. I always log out of the machine when I'm not using it, and after a bit it goes to sleep (usually I'll just click the "sleep" button on the login display).
It wakes up with a wiggle of the mouse (Wacom Graphire), a tap of the keyboard (recent wired but numeric-keypadless Apple) or if I hit the button on my Griffin Power Mate.
But then I cannot do anything. If I click any of the edit boxes in the login window, or any of the buttons, the mouse jumps to the "sleep" button but does not click it. I can't enter a username or password because those edit boxes never get focus.
The machine is otherwise alive, as I can ssh to it from another computer or my iPhone and then from the command-line do a
    $ sudo /sbin/shutdown -r now
    for an orderly reboot.
Very bizarre and rather annoying ... this has persisted since I installed Snow Leopard. Clues, anyone?

Some, but not all of the time that the tower goes to sleep, when it wakes up the mouse works, but the keyboard does not. A restart solves the problem, but that's not practical.
My aluminum keyboard did exactly the same thing when used with the USB extension cable, but not when plugged directly to the computer. Usually, unplugging the keyboard for a few seconds would fix it. The Apple store replaced the keyboard, and I have had no problems with the new keyboard.

  • Loss of mouse control after waking from sleep

I am running a Mac mini G4 (see specs below) with a remote Microsoft mouse-keyboard connection that uses a USB connection. I didn't turn on the computer for a month, I installed necessary updates to some programs, and control of the mouse pointer disappears after I waken it from sleep mode. I installed new batteries in the mouse, but it makes no difference. The keyboard works fine. Both the keyboard and the mouse were purchased with the computer, and I've never had a problem with either of them until now. What's wrong, and what can be done? Thanks very much. Peace.

It's not an entirely unusual problem to have the mouse drop out when waking from sleep, and it's caused by the fact the system wakes before the connection to the mouse is re-established. To the system, that means the mouse appears to be missing, thus the driver doesn't load up for it. Cordless mice are amongst the most problematic in this respect because as the system wakes, not only does it have to recognize the cordless transceiver in time, but then also make contact with the mouse and correctly identify it. That isn't normally a problem, but it means almost anything that delays the chain of contact will result in the mouse failing to work. Note that if using a USB hub, this can exacerbate the problem significantly, so at least for testing, the mouse and keyboard should be connected directly to the system.
There are a couple of simple tests to perform: firstly, does the mouse work perfectly when the system is booted rather than woken? Assuming it does, the next is whether the mouse works correctly if it is used to wake the system from sleep by clicking a button?
If the mouse works correctly when the system is booted, then the problem is either that the mini's USB ports are not functioning entirely correctly, or that there is either a problem with the USB 'dongle' communicating with the mouse on wake up, or some interference in the area that is inhibiting error-free communication between the devices.
In the latter instance, placing the mouse a few inches from the USB 'dongle' it communicates with and then waking the system is a good test, since the range is short and thus the risk of interference affecting communication is reduced. If it works like that, then you have something in the area that is causing communication problems.
Assuming the mouse still doesn't work when left next to the dongle, then then next step is to try an PMU reset:
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    -Wait 10 seconds.
-Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
-Let go of the power button.
-Press the power button once more to start up your Mac mini.

  • G4 likes to ignore key/mouse input after waking from sleep sometimes

It doesn't receive any input from a perfectly working logitech USB mouse or the modern Apple Keyboard about every 10th time I wake it from sleep mode, and I have to reboot it. When it's in that ignoring mood, I can unplug and reconnect the mouse, watch the red LED on the bottom light as it's recognized by the machine, but still get no use from it until rebooting.
    What gives? What's the fix?

    hi there--
you will want to trash the following files to see if it makes any difference--
    /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.powermanagement.plist
    /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.autowake.plist
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist (~ means home library)
if there is no autowake plist you should generate one by setting a schedule in system preferences > energy saver, and then cancelling the schedule. if you do this don't delete the file afterwards, just let it regenerate itself in the systemconfiguration folder.

  • USB mouse freezes after wake from sleep.

Since the 10.8.2 update my Logitech USB mouse freezes after waking up the computer from sleep or when it goes into energy save from non use. This also happens to my brand new MBPR. I tries repair permissions and reset the smc. Any suggestions?

I get a frozen mouse (Microsoft Intellimouse Optical) on my 2012 Mac Mini running Mavericks (it did it with Mountain Lion also) when waking from sleep about 75% of the time which works again if I unplug/replug it (light is on and mouse buttons work when it's frozen, but the pointer won't move).  It does this whether I use a built-in USB3 port, a USB2 hub and now also with my new USB3 hub.
However, my 2008 Macbook Pro also has an Intellimouse connected to it when docked and it NEVER freezes when waking from sleep whether using the built-in USB2 port or a Gmyle USB3 card port.  Either way, the mouse wakes fine and it's the SAME MODEL MOUSE and SAME OSX verison.  I have no idea why the inconsistency.  It ***** because "Wake on Network Activity" FINALLY works right here in Mavericks with XBMC on my Mac Mini so there's a perfect opportunity to save some electricity.  I got excited when it woke up two times in a row with 10.9.1 and set up my sleep controls only to find it wouldn't go to sleep with the Energy Savings menu because I have an external USB3.0 3TB media drive connected (at all times).  I finally found out (through more patient testing) that once the drive spun down (possibly on its own power saving timer as I'm not sure the "Shut down hard drives when possible" setting works in Mavericks; it was messed up in Mountain Lion in 10.8.4 and even though 10.8.5 fixed it, I'm not sure Mavericks is using the same code.  It doesn't seem to shut down any faster with or without the setting on and shuts off several minutes after the computer attempts to go to sleep (on a 1 minute test setting; I think WD defaults to 10 minutes in firmware).
Anyway, once that was resolved and I saw it would go to sleep eventually once the drive spun down (it will sleep instantly if I select SLEEP from the Apple menu which I find odd if it's such a big deal that it's connected....), I thought OH BOY!  I'm all set.  Then I woke it from that sleep and found my mouse was frozen again..... :-(  What a PITA to unplug/plug the mouse every time it wakes from sleep.  It's not worth it.  I'll just have to pay the extra few bucks in electricity each month I could have saved to avoid such a freaking nightmare hassle.  Why on God's Green Earth, Apple CANNOT or WILL NOT fix their darn energy savings features is just beyond me.  Instead of spending all their time making horrible horrible ugly icon/GUI updates to iOS and making it slower and slower and slower, why don't they actually fix some darn bugs in OSX for once in their lives.... I'm starting to think I should give Windows another chance I'm so annoyed right now.  But then I think about having to run a malware program and have that program update and Windows software/security updates 3x a day and I think I can just deal with the Mini not sleeping.....
I'd like to know why Apple couldn't figure out those of us with multiple monitors would want a dock on BOTH monitors all the time either (first side-mount docks wouldn't migrate and now in 10.9.1, bottom-mounted docks won't migrate here either, leaving a dock on one monitor all the time and if that's the monitor that is showing full-screen video, you lost your dock completely while the video is playing.  They finally figured out after a full decade that having a menu bar on both screens would be a good idea, but it just didn't occur to them that the same is true of the dock.  How much are they paying these guys?  Too much apparently (or is it too little to attract talented thinkers? Nah, it couldn't be since we give them feedback and they just ignore it).

  • Disappearing mouse pointer when resuming from sleep

I am having an issue where my X1-Carbon Touch returns from sleep, the mouse pointer is not visible.  I can see the items being highlighted.  The touch screen works fine.  Eventually for unknown reasons it finally re-appears.  Sometimes a couple of minutes sometimes over an hour.  Restarting the machine fixes the problem, but it is a real pain.
OS: Windows 8 Pro, with most recent Windows update

    Hi, littlejohnjt
This sounds like it may be an issue with the UltraNav driver. I would recommend opening the Charms Bar and selecting Search and typing Device Manager into the Search box. Lastly, select Settings beneath the Search box to filter by settings instead of programs. Once in Device Manager, open the tree for Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the device that appears in the tree and select Properties. From here, navigate to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the list and then follow the prompts. After the device is uninstalled, restart the machine. This process allows Windows to install a generic driver, which may help your issues. If it does, I would try installing the Synaptics mouse and keyboard driver found here, as it has helped others with similar issues in the past.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • Keyboard-mouse locked after resume from suspend

After the last couple of system updates my system no longer resumes properly from suspend. The video is fine but the keyboard-mouse combo is locked up.
The kb-mouse combo is a logitech wireless:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:c517 Logitech, Inc. LX710 Cordless Desktop Laser
I can see no relevant log details in systemctl that lead me anywhere. Any ideas appreciated.

I don't know if this is the same bug. I'm using openbox and a desktop computer without any touchpad. After being suspended, my mouse somehow rules all of my desktop - whole screen is flattering, and moving mouse changes the size of the visible, flashing window. Moving cursor to the top of the screen "locks" the window, and everything except mouse cursor is perfectly normal. Cursor is waving and flashing bunch of pixels, from the right side of the screen to the current location of the mouse cursor. I can use the mouse, and cursor is in right location. Ctrl+Alt+F2 visiting to tty2 and coming back fixes the situation, so I can use computer just fine, but it's still quite uncomfortable. Sounds quite strange, I think?

  • X230 hangs when resuming from sleep/hibernate

Sometimes my x230 becomes unresponsive after resuming from sleep/hibernate.
The "system" process would take up one core (25%) and the hard disk activity light would stay on all the time. I could switch between applications that were already started, but I couldn't start any new applications, and giving the currently running applications any keyboard or mouse input, would put them in the "not responding" state.
The only way I found to get out of this state is to do a cold shut-down... holding on the power button for 5 sec.
This hang would happen quite often... about 3-4 out of 10 resumes... very annoying that I would lose the state of all my open applications.
I did a system update to the latest driver versions, including a bios update. That seemed to fix the problem... at least for a while... Then it started happening again, althouh less frequently... but it still happens.
    Any ideas?
    thanks

    hi Vicentiu,
Thanks for posting your result. Based from your results, its great to hear that performance of your machine has improved quite a bit. Although that was not what we were look for
Anyhow, in this case could you possibly update the "Intel Management Engine" as there a case i worked with not long ago on an x220 which had similar porblems. By updating the BIOS and Intel Management Firmware did the trick.
It worth the try though. The link for the update can be found below.

  • System clock fails to update after waking from sleep

I've noticed that my new PowerMac G5 Dual-Core 2GHz (running Mac OS X 10.4.3) doesn't update its system clock to the current time after waking from sleep.
When I put it to sleep and then wake it some time later, the Clock in the upper right-hand corner doesn't update to the current time. It still ticks on (second for second) but remains out of sync.
Opening the Date & Time preferences pane will restore the time to the correct setting.
This problem only occurs with sleep and then wake-from-sleep. It doesn't happen when I shut down the machine and then restart it.
Does anybody know if I've got a malfunctioning machine? It's only 1 day old...
Or better still, how do I solve this problem?
    PowerMac G5 Dual-Core 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

No, my Mac is not having trouble contacting the time server. I checked the console log and found no messages related to this.
I am on a broadband always-on connection (recently switched from DSL to cable modem, and the problem occurred under both connections). However, my original post states that the computer loses time only when it is asleep, and I didn't think that my computer could contact the time server when it is asleep. It also loses time when it is off, which I neglected to mention previously. Am I mistaken in thinking that the computer communicates over the network only when it is awake? Since it keeps accurate time when awake (once I've reset it by opening the Date & Time control panel), it seems to me like it IS communicating with the time server without issue.
[And I apologize for misinterpreting your question as a suggestion. I was trying to be polite by thanking you for taking an interest in my issue. I'll watch my semantics more carefully next time.]

  • Has anyone else noticed that: "The OS X Lion v10.7.3 Update includes Safari 5.1.3 and fixes that: Resolve a Wi-Fi connection issue when waking from sleep" didn't work?

I installed OS X Lion v10.7.3 because of the following claim.
The OS X Lion v10.7.3 Update includes Safari 5.1.3 and fixes that:
Resolve a Wi-Fi connection issue when waking from sleep
It continues to be a real pain having to reconnect to the network each time I wake my MacBook Air from sleep.
Does anyone have a suggestion for the resolution to this problem?

It seems the update fixed old problems for some and caused new problems for others. Sorry to hear you're in the latter group.
Here are some things to try.
    1. Go to System Preferences > Network, and click the gear icon under the network interfaces like so:
Whatever service order you have set, drag Wi-Fi either to the top (assuming it's not already there) or someplace else in the list. Click OK and then Apply. Sleep the system then wake it again to observe any changes.
    2. Click Wi-Fi in the above then click Advanced. Select all the networks your computer has ever joined and delete them with the "-" button. OK then Apply again. Select your network under the AirPort icon to re-join it. Sleep and wake again to see if that did anything.
    3. Try creating a new, temporary user account. Log in under that account to see if its behavior is any different.
You may have done all of these already but perhaps there is something you have not thought of. If nothing helps we may just have to wait a bit longer for Apple to release a fix.

  • Usb gone after resume from hibernate (since update?)

    Hello!
Since a recent update, my wireless usb stick's interface isn't available any more after resume from hibernate. Removing it and connecting it to a different USB port does not help.
lsusb says, the device itsself is there.
I can see it being removed / added when I connect it to a different usb port.
The only interface iwconfig / ifconfig list is "lo" though. No wlan0 available.
No idea what to try next... any hints?

Have there been issues with updates?
A while after that, my usb mouse/keyboard stopped working after resume, too.
Then after a few days, wifi started working...
Then usb input started working again...
Now usb input devices stopped working again -.-
I think there were updates (kernel, too) every time the behaviour changed... not sure though...
Still no idea what to do.

  • X220 hangs during resume from sleep

    Greetings everyone!
    here is my problem:
I have Lenovo x220 with i5-2.6Ghz, 4 Gb memory in two slots, Intel combo WiFi+WiMAX, IPS screen, Camera and bluetooth and regular 250 HDD (not SSD). No Express card, not fingerprint, no WWAN installed.
The systems hangs (black screen) after I try to resume it from sleep.
Situation: I press Fn button, HDD LED and CapdLock blink once and that is it. Power Button continues slowly blinking as it does while system is in sleep mode. The only was to take system from this state is to push power button to force shutdown.
After multiple experiments I've found a pattern:
It seems that I'm having problems with first sleep/resume cycle only after "clean" start or restart. Clean start/restart means - you turn on the computer after previous successful shutdown (i.e. start->shutdown) or you restart it (starrt->restart). After that, if you put you computer into sleep, it will not wake up.
"Not clean" start means - your computer did not wake up, so you shut it down with power button . On next start windows will complaint that it was incorrectly shut down and offer to boot in safe or normal mode. Continue with normal mode and after that you will not have any problems with suspend/resume till the next clean restart or shutdown.
I tried different power schemes, install/uninstall/reinstall Lenovo Power manager, tried different PCI/USB/CPU power parameters. I did factory reset from Lenovo backup drive, I did clean W7 installation on  SSD drive ( I have Intel X25M 160Gb drive) with and w/o win SP1, tried ... well, i think I tried everything. No luck.
Question: anyone has such problem? Any suggestions what to try to fix the problem?

    Try this:
    1. Go to this page: Lenovo Support - Drivers and software - ThinkPad X220, X220 Tablet, X220i, X220i Tablet
    2. Download: "Power Management Driver"
    3. Download: "Hotkey utility"
    4. Download: "Power Manager"
    5. Uninstall, "Lenovo System Interface Driver"
    6. Uninstall, "Thinkpad Power Management Driver"
    7. Uninstall, "Thinkpad Power Manager"
    8. Reboot. (Don't skip this reboot)
    9. Install: "Power Management Driver"
    10. Reboot (Don't skip this reboot)
    11. Install: "Hotkey utility" (When you install this one, make sure you select the check boxes for all the options.)
    12. Reboot: (Don't skip this reboot)
    13. Install: "Power Manager"
    14. Reboot: (Don't skip this reboot)
    15. And finally, I rebooted again for good luck.
