Update to 10.8.4 asks reboot after reboot

I run a MBP 13" on 10.8.3 and tried to update to 10.8.4 yesterday. The App Store download seemed to stop after ca. 10% but with no error message and just asked me for the expected reboot. So I did the reboot, the Mac comes back fine but surprisingly remains on 10.8.3 with a notification that there is an update to 10.8.4 waiting for me. Went through the update procedure on the App Store again - but exact same behaviour and same result.
I've since verified the disk - all fine. I've checked and repaired permissions. Still same behaviour of the update process. I've reset PRAM. Same still.
Anyone with a magic trick?

Sometimes the App Store version doesn't work properly. This is your case, and the solution is to install OS X 10.8.4 with the Combo installer > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1659
The Combo version is the safest way to install a OS X update, because it causes less problems than the version you can get at the Mac App Store. Also, it can be used to update more than one Mac

This is Activation Lock. The iPad must be unlocked with the Apple ID used to originally set it up, or must first be removed from that accounts before you can activate it with your Apple ID. See here for information: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13695

Please advise.  After 17/03/2013 Adobe update, Flash Player uninstalls itself on reboot.

I'd like to investigate what's occurring.  Would you be willing to run the following steps to generate a debug log for me?  If this looks like too much work, please let me know and if you're willing we can schedule a quick desktop sharing session so I can do this on your system for you.
    1. Download “SetACL (executable version)_2.zip” from: http://bit.ly/WEppuY
    2. Extract the appropriate “SetACL.exe” from either the 64 bit or 32 bit folder and place it alongside the flash_report.bat file attached to this post.
    3. Right click flash_report.bat and select “Run as administrator”
Once run, please copy/paste the contents of the flashreport.txt file into a reply.

  • Unable to update any software that requires a reboot.

When my old mbp broke down I migrated all my files using Time Machine. At first I had some issues with multiple accounts but since that was resolved everything has been running smoothly. Recently though, I discovered that when I tried to update Safari to 5.1.2, it appeared as if the installation went all right but when the system had rebooted the application was still on my software update list. On that list were also several firmware updates as well as minor updates for applications like iTunes. In fact, I could see that no automatic updates had gone through as planned since I bought my new computer last spring. The list was empty.
I tried to install all updates that didn't require a rebooting of the mbp and this went very well. However, when I tried to install the updates for firmware and Safari, my computer didn't even ask me for my password but skipped immediately to rebooting. When it fired up again, none of the updates had been installed but were still on the list for available updates.
Another thing that I've discovered while googling for a solution to my problem is that my disk permissions are corrupted in some way. I've tried to use Disk Utility to repair my disk permissions and it changes the permissions of about a dozen of files. Immediately after having been repaired though, if I run another verification scan, these same files will show up again as having the incorrect permissions.
Are these problems related? Does anyone know how to fix either of them? I'm thankful for any help at all.
edit: It might be helpful to know that I'm on a 13" mbp (early 2011) running OS X v. 10.6.8

Nothing to worry about. And no need to keep repairing Permissions. Once is enough.

For Software Update, try moving these files to the Trash (don't empty yet.)

I can no longer buy, download, or update apps/iTunes without being asked for apple ID and billing information. Even if apps are free or updating I'm asked for billing information. It's been like this for a couple of weeks after the purchase of a movie off iTunes and the purchase was successful but afterwards my App Store and iTunes stopped working properly. alrite. I have made my mistake. I should not jail break my iphone. So if I purchase my apps again from itunes is that mean mean my data will be back?
I hope you guys can giv me some support here since I am Apple genuine buyer. I could be wrong last time and now I turn over a new leaf and learn a lesson.
Please noted that I can always create new account to ask for the same questions without mention about "jailbreak" if I want to but obviously I won't do that. Please provide me your support! Thank you!

  • Can't update due to message saying a prior update is still running and to reboot, but I have rebooted 4 or 5 times

Can't update due to message saying a prior update is still running and to reboot, but I have rebooted at least 4 or 5 times What do I need to remove to get the install to work?
I am stuck at FireFox 3.6.18 as no update actually installs, even when I am logged in as the admin.
    i am running XP SP3
I have the update files for version 4, 6, 8, and 10. IF I can figure out the error - probably in the registry - which update should I start with

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    *Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • I am unable to update my apps on my iphone5s. After entering the applied password, the update button reappears and nothing happens. Can anyone help? Thanks

I am unable to update my apps on my iphone5s. After entering the applied password, the update button reappears and nothing happens. Can anyone help? Thanks

    Hey there Tonyaokb,
It sounds like you are trying to update some of your apps and when you tap the update button, the update does not happen. I recommend starting by closing the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that, sign out of your iTunes account in Settings > iTunes and App Stores, and restart the phone and try to update them again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists I would next verify that you can find it in your purchased history with ths article:
    Tap App Store.
Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
    Tap Updates.
Tap Purchased on the resulting screen.
So that you can then delete the app and re install it:
    Reinstall the affected app
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-left corner of the app.
Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
    Press the Home button.
    Go to the App Store.
Search for the app and download it again.
Note: If it's a paid app, make sure you're using the iTunes account you purchased the app with originally. If it isn't, you may be asked to purchase the app again. Learn more about downloading previously purchased items.

trying to update a plugin, I do, then reboot but when I check the plugin checker says I need to update it.

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_plugins#Identifying_installed_plugins
You can see the installed plugins on the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aplugins about:plugins] page.<br />
If you set the pref plugin.expose_full_path to true on the about:config page then you see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page.<br />
It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page.<br />
