Update to 2.02 wiped all contacts out

My wife's computer is toast and her iphone was having the normal problems, so I updated her phone on my computer. I made sure that the computer was able to tell the difference in her iphone and my iphone and it did. It backed up her phone before the restore, but did not restore any of her contacts. I tried restore again, so there is a new no contact backup and it did not restore anything. Is there a way to find the old backup and make it restore that file? No illegal software, or anything like that has ever been used including my computer as I seen that excuse in another post. Please help.

I was able to play all of the songs I had, but nothing from my Library.
The songs on the iPod come from the library.
How did you play songs you do not have in the library?
I went back and said I did want to auto update and it deleted every single song I had on my mini. But it left my library of 18 songs. What went on??
This is working exactly like it should.
When the iPod is set to auto-update, it will put the songs in the iTunes library onto the ipod. If you delete songs from your library, they will be removed from your iPod.
Is there a reason you deleted songs from your library?

Don't diminish yourself. for some reason, you are in a situation where you have to forget you are technophobe. We are here to help and not mock you, but you're the main character here.
Do you agree with the following statement :
when you open the application called Desktop Manager on your PC,
and you click on the "Backup and restore" button,
there are three vertical parts :
    - BACKUP
    - RESTORE
    - ADVANCED
    click on ADVANCED
you get to a two panels window.
the left panel is what is on your computer. Click File >> Open... and select the IPD file that contains your backup.
    then re-read my first message.

  • Update to itunes 9.1 - All contacts are missing after syncing iphone 3G

I have updated Mac OS and itunes to the latest versions and synced my iphone as everytime. As I started my navigation app during car driving I noted that *all my stored contacts do not exist anymore*. It seems that the last sync has deleted my whole contacts library on my phone. Only the empty distribution lists are available. My contact folder in the address book of my mac are still existing. But neither a iphone reset nor the replacement action for contacts in itunes are working to solve the problem.
I hope the itunes-team is working on a bugfix. It is not acceptable, that a s/w-update is not tested enough before being released to the community.
Please give a message how the further plan is. Thx. Axel

I just had the same problem on my Windows 7 PC.
I updated to iTunes 9.1 a few days prior. On 4/19, I plugged my iPhone 3G into my Windows 7 laptop to charge it, didnt touch anything on the phone or the laptop, and went to sleep. The next morning I grabbed my phone and went to work. I noticed that all of my contacts had been deleted off my phone. I then went home that night and looked at my laptop, which I had not used since before I plugged in my iPhone. All of my contacts have been deleted off my laptop as well. I tried doing a system restore on my laptop to see if it would restore my windows contacts. No luck. I also did the system restore to see if it would bring up an earlier version of an iphone backup, as itunes automatically backed up my phone when i reconnected it, so my contacts were no longer on there as well.
    Please help!

  • Iphone deleted all my contacts and when i plugged it in automatic backup ran and wiped all contacts

    Hi All,
Yesterday I noticed that all my contacts were deleted from my iphone 3. I hadn't plugged it in to a computer, it had been on wi-fi earlier but I hadn't accessed itunes or anything. Everything else (text messages, music, apps) was fine. When I arrived home and plugged it into my computer to access the back-up, automatic back-up ran and backed-up my contact-less iphone. I tried restoring from back-up - no dice.
How can I access older back-ups with my contacts and restore them to my phone? Why were my contacts erased and how can I stop it from happening again?
    Thanks for your help!

Several of my friends also had this problem recently. Wondering if you use LINE or FB often on your phone?

  • Address Book RSET has wiped all contacts not just the unwanted ones

    I'm on an 8520 Curve running v5.0.0.681.
I recently added an e mail account for my wife. In adding it, I allowed her contacts to be synched in.  After deleting the e mail account, her contact list stayed (all1700 of them) swamping my contacts.
I read on these forums that using RSET in Address Book Options would remove the list. It did but also removed all my contacts.  There is no back up on a PC or on my SIM.  I can't even add contacts manually as they refuse to save.
Any ideas on how to get my contacts back or at least to allow them to be re-input manually?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I've solved this myself now.
The problem was that in doing the RSET it got rid of the address book from the BB phone. Address book was effectively not installed.
    I followed http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB2...
I have my contacts back too as they were synched with my e mail account contacts.  I still have the issue of deleting all the contacts from my e mail account that I don't want on my phone.
BB should have better warnings on using RSET

  • Lost all contacts after iOS 4.3 update [iPhone 4]

The description above pretty much tells it all. All contacts missing from iPhone 4 after update to iOS 4.3.
All music, calendar, photos, voicemails are still there. And the strange thing (to me) is that the numbers are still there under "recent" and "favorites", just not the contact names to associate them with.
Backup is useless, as it is from after the update [why is there only one backup? That is useless, and you can't seem to force backups with date stamps].
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I had the same experience as RandyCPU, updated to 4.3 yesterday, all contacts disappeared but all other information still there, photos, texts, recent calls but no names etc. I too found that my phone was not backing up contacts and I only had the info from my changeover to the iphone4 in December. I asked if I could set it to back-up on syncing and was told it did it automatically but this is obviously not the case, I was then told that I would have to do it manually. Apple could only suggest restoring the December back-up but I have now lost everything loaded on the phone since then, they also advised that I was the only example of this problem. Very unhappy and still no idea why it happened.

if you have no back up in icloud or itunes the best you can do is sync with your computer and get back  what you can from there

  • On my ipad I updated my itunes software. All my existing apps were wiped out. How do I revive them?

On my ipad I updated my itunes software. All my existing apps were wiped out. How do I revive them?
I do not know the operating system name, but it was the operation system that came with my ipad.  This ipad was the first ipad system that was sols by apple.

You seem like a person who knows their stuff. I seek some advice in regards to in app purchase issuse after changing apple id and details.  I played on my partners iPad he got me my own but my games were purchased via his apple I'd.  His work email I'd so we temporarily changed his appple I'd to what I use and account card/billing details, password etc to what suited me. Then backed up connected the new iPad and did a restore. One of my games dont have a in game save/load feature to move game hence the backup and restore so I don't loose progress. Only problem is i tried to do a in app purchase to see if then game file moved correctly and it seems to never connect to server unless I sign out of store and in again then prompt to purchase comes up. After that password yet no product it don't download. Could it be that it is because he has re created his old I'd that i changedup again as new? As before he did that when I tried to purchase I was promptly asked for confirmation but he never let me complete the purchase kept saying its worked. Or is it something else?

  • My itunes says that my ipod is synced with another library when it is not and cannot update or sync without wiping it and all its data

My itunes says that my ipod is synced with another library when it is not and cannot update or sync without wiping it and all its data
    Can anyone help me

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
All media content will be erased during the first sync, but you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

I am puzzled by this. The laptop doesn't need the Apple ID - but iTunes does. I could be missing something but ....
Why would you not be able to use your existing Apple ID and iTunes account on a new laptop? If you authorized the computer - you should be able to use your existing account - unless you already had 5 computers authorized with the existing ID - and that was why iTunes would not accept the ID. However, I'm sure that you would have received a popup message from iTunes telling you that you had reached the limit.
I just received a new MBP and my daughter did as well. My entire family shares an Apple ID and we had no issues at all with my Apple ID and iTunes on our new computers and I did not have to sign up for a new account. Did you even try the old ID?

  • I-phone 2.0 update - lost all contacts

This a.m. did the 2.0 update and lost all contacts. Calender good, photos good, notes good, mail good. Did not have on PC but part of download said "backing up information" WHERE?
Did 2nd I-phone right after, before checking the first one, and that download went 100% not loosing anything!
Contacts where different on each phone.

A very similar problem happened to me. Had some issues during the update which I think may have initially caused the problem. Anyway, that was a couple weeks ago. Just today I was trying to figure out a way to restore it again and I got it. Before the 2.0 software is updated the iPhone automatically backups everthing. To restore your contacts, calendar, photos, text messages, and settings following these steps:
    1. Open iTunes on the same computer you performed the update on.
    2. Connect your iPhone.
    3. Right-click on your phone ("Your name's iPhone") under "Devices" in the left column.
    4. Left-click on "Restore from Backup..."
    5. Select your phone from the drop-down menu.
    6. Click Restore.
As I said, this should restore your contacts, calendar, photos, text messages, and settings to the way they were before you updated it. It does NOT revert your phone to pre-2.0 software. The new 2.0 firmware will remain in place!
    Hope this works for you!
Let me know if you're successful!!

IOS 6 wiped all of my contacts! The numbers are still there but their names are gone. HELP!

Thanks. I think I'm going to try and revert my old 3GS to factory settings, put my last back up on it and manually enter all my phone numbers. I'm too worried about messing everything up! I'm typically good with technological issues but my iPhone scares the crap out of me since it is so essential to everything haha

  • 2.1 SW update erased all contacts except one!

I just updated to 2.1 and went to go call someone, only to find out that all of my contacts, except one, have been erased. The one that remained was one that I had edited previously today.

This is supposed to happen! One of the features of the iphone is that when you change your contact account settings on the phone it deletes everything. Thats because in Apple world you dont store your contact on your phone they are only a copy...LOL Sorry but this is the truth.
You would have been presented with a loverly waring saying "All contacts on your iPhone will be deleted if you proceed" guess you missed that one.....I know I did at least once while trying to sort his syncing mess out.
Bad luck but next time sync first, make a backup then change your settings.
Your contacts and calendar - if they are still on your PC/MAC - will appear soon though just be patient. If they are gone from your PC/MAC you are #$#@$@ stuffed.

  • Ipod Update Wiped all my Music!

I updated my Ipod firmware on Friday, and followed all the instructions on screen as usual, then it restarted whilst plugged in - though Itunes said that would happen, and I think it's happened before when I updated. Anyway, I unplugged my Ipod after ejecting it properly, and following all the instructions and when I turned my Ipod on it had completely wiped all my music from it!! Is there anything I can do? Or is this a lost cause?
    Thanks,
    Gareth.

If you have to manage your music in this manner, deleting files out of iTunes, you are leaving yourself open for disaster without backing up which you have now learned the hard way. If you have no backups, files are no longer on your iPod, I'm seriously afraid you are out of luck. Sorry.
