  • Strongly recommend that I update: "Warning: You're using an insecure version of Firefox. You must update." But I can't

I have been receiving strong recommendations to update: "Update Available. A security and stability update for Firefox is available: Firefox 12.0. It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible." When I click on "update," I get a message of trying to connect, and a bar with a blue spiral. It lasts for hours, but never connects.
I would like to install this update, but can't figure out how to do it. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

The OP is on a Mac, so suggestions for Windows won't help.
You may need to trash the current Firefox version in case of problems with updating.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 12.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Cannot get beyond "connecting to an update server" when trying to load a "strongly recommended" update.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, running Windows XP. I keep getting a pop-up from Firefox saying "It is strongly recommended that you down load this update".
Whenever I try to do so, it refuses to go beyond the progress box that says "Connecting to the update server". I have left it at this point for well over 30mins on one occasion, but to no avail.
I have tried both through my Belkin router and direct on the ethernet cable.
The broadband connection is one of the lower-speed O2 exchanges.
    What might be the problem?

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.<br />
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.

  • How to reconcile: "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update..." with "Unfortunately the latest version of Firefox isn't compatible ...."

"Firefox 3.6.22 It is strongly recommended ......"
Made to make the Web a better place
    "Unfortunately the latest version ....."

Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • I keep receiving the software update recommendation for Firefox 5.0 "strongly recommended." However, each time I attempt to download it, the download lasts for ever and is unproductive. What's up?

I am running Mac OS 10.6.8. For the last few days I have received the Software Update with strong recommendation to download Firefox 5.0. However, each attempt to download fails....the progression bar just keeps stalling.

  • Each time I open Firefox, I get a popup window that says "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible." But I have updated Firefox.

But I have updated Firefox. And if I tell it to do the update, it runs and runs and runs but nothing ever happens. It has a 'view more information about this update' link but the link does not work.

According to your user agent string you are not using the latest version of Firefox. It shows you have version 4.0, the latest version is 4.0.1
In the Help menu select "About Firefox", this should check for updates and then let you install the latest version.
If that does not work, try downloading the latest version from http://www.mozilla.com/ then installing it over your current version.

  • My Firefox browser, shows "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update to Firefox as soon as possible". When I click "View more information about this update" nothing happens. Nor does anything happen when I click "Next". Is this a virus??

On opening Firefox I keep getting the above msg. Sometime ago, there was a virus posing to be a Windows XP Security Update, which was removed. According to CA who provides virus protection, this is a matter for Firefox.
Hence my concern that this may be a virus.
    Would appreciate your advice. Thanks

  • I'm getting a pop-up recommending updating to Firefox version 10.0.1 - 'strongly recommended' due to a 'secruity & stability' issue. How trustworthy is this and how can I be sure it is, in fact, from Foxfire?

Per the message, I should update "ASAP" - This 'urgency' to do so seems suspicious, which is why I'm asking this question BEFORE I take action.

The current release version is 10.0.1, the notification is genuine.

  • I keep getting a pop up saying 'It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible.' When I click 'View more information about this update' nothing happens. Do I need an update or not?

If I click the Next button it says Connecting to the update server for Downloading Firefox. I am connected to the internet. It just keeps displaying the same msg but nothing seems to be happening. I tried clicking the Hide button and now I can't get back to it. What is this about?

There is a security update for Firefox (Firefox 10.0.2) which you should apply. Unfortunately, it looks as if the updater on your Firefox is messing up somehow.
The easiest way to work around this and get you secure is to go to [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com], and download the latest version of Firefox there. After it downloads, go ahead and run the installer over your current Firefox. None of your settings will be changed, but it will apply the security fix, and you will be all good to go!

  • Popup says "security update available" and "strongly recommended... as soon as possible". No info on Release Notes.

Clicked on "update" got "downloading" box that went on for ten minutes or so, which freaked me out so I quit Firefox. what is this and why won't it download?
    currently using Firefox 5.o.

    Hi DellPatrick,
I would uninstall all CS6 products using the uninstallers located at Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers
Then download and run the cleaner tool and remove everything Creative Cloud related

Finally create a new admin user account, log out of the current account and reinstall from the newly created one

A bar keeps moving across the page as if the update is being installed, but it never completes the install. Instead, it just keeps going on and on. I have left it going for over an hour & it still doesn't update? HELP PLEASE! If it is important, I want to get it updated as soon as possible. I've already been trying for over a week.

  • Virtually every time I use Firefox I get a pop-up stating "Software Update - It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible". This is wierd, what is wrong?

As stated this happens soon after start up of the program quite often, maybe 40% of the time.
