I would try rebooting iPad and computer. Check for updates, it looks like there is a minor iTunes update since 10.2.
If these checks don't work, you might restore the iPad in iTunes. Its not as big of a deal as you might think, but it can take an hour or so.

  • ITunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone

When I try to download and install the new carrier settings file, I get the message "iTunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." (I got a similar message when I tried to download and install the OS update.)
I've been able to work around the problem by creating a different user and installing from there. But I'd like to be able to find and correct the cause of the error message instead of using a workaround. It seems like there's a file or folder somewhere that has somehow become read-only. Does anyone know where iTunes downloads the carrier settings and OS update files?

You will find them in separate folders within your user account Library/iTunes folder.
That was it. Somehow the owner of ~/Library/iTunes got changed to root.

Have you tried using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions?
Right after I posted the message I thought that the age-old placebo of repairing permissions might actually fix my problem. Because of your quick reply I found the ownership problem before repairing permissions. So here was the perfect chance for a test. Repair Permissions ran successfully but the owner of ~/Library/iTunes was still root. Repair Permissions fails the test.
I manually changed the owner to steve and was able to download and install the carrier settings.
    Thanks!

  • HT201270 IPad 1 repeated crashes: Will an update to carrier settings reduce the number of crashes and make my ipad 1 useable again?

Since updating to iOs 5.1, my iPad 1 crashes so often it is unuseable.  It normally crashes when using Chrome or Safari - but also on other programs such as  MotionX GPS.  I've just "restored" it using itumes - and on the way out was invited to update the carrier settings.  It has an old sim card in it - which I no longer use since my iphone can run as a mobile hotspot.  So the question is - will updating the carrier settings help - or does anyone know some other majic that might work?

Carrier settings updates are small files that can include updates from Apple and your carrier to carrier-related settings, such as network, calling, cellular data, messaging, personal hotspot, and voicemail settings. You may receive notifications from time to time to install new carrier-settings updates.
Does your iPad crash for all apps and use or just specific things?
If it only crashes on specific apps make sure the apps are updated if they are not already.
Also you may need to look into doing a back up and restore to factory settings.

  • I've changed iPad carriers but iTunes will not update the carrier settings,

I've changed iPad carriers but iTunes will not update the carrier settings, stating that the requested resource could not be found. Does anyone know how I can download the ipcc file and force an update.

Your iPad may already have the latest carrier settings, especially if you have updated to iOS 4.3.3.

In Layman terms, what the heck does updating your carrier settings mean, and how does it effect me in the real world?

No offense, but what carrier?  what data and what service?
I get a bogus window hovering in my itunes page, telling me I have to update information, that I don't want to manage.
I am not upset or unappreciative of your feedback, quite the opposite, I can't believe anyone actually monitors peoples frustrations.
I just want to make sure I don't allow information about me that is not necessary.  I just want to listen to music and have a phone and have an ipad.
Everything else about apple is way to propriatory. I don't want to do anything that isn't very simple.
Most importantly, there never seems to be any (human being) that can answer a telephone call anymore.
Contact us, means...send us an email about something you don't know anything about, and I don't even know that questions to ask.
I am not allowed to be ignorant.  If I am I wait days for answers.....

Sometimes your carrier may release important updates that the phone needs to work with them, maybe something is missing, its hard to tell, try these steps.
Make sure your device is connected to the Internet.
Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.

  • HT201270 iOS: Updating your carrier settings

This thing does nothing good to my iPhone 4 with iOS 6. When iTunes prompt me for this settings update, I update it and voila, my internet connection was lost. I call the customer service of my carrier and their advise is to restart my iphone. Now it is ok. How come the Cellular Data Network button lost after this carrier settings? Please advice...frankism (Qatar-Qtel)

Ask your carrier, their the ones that control that setting.

  • HT201270 Update Carrier Settings (MacBook Pro + iPad)

Using iPad in the UK on O2 carrier.
As of yesterday, iTunes keeps asking if I want to update the carrier settings of the iPad.  I've run the update more than once already and whenever I link the iPad to iTunes it asks me again.
Did this happen to anyone?  Any solutions?  It is quite annoying...
    Thank You

  • My iPad keeps saying there is an update available for my carrier settings

    Hi There,
No matter how many times I update my carrier settings, my iPad keeps saying there is an update available.  For the past 30 minuets, I have sat and clicked check for update repeatadly, but still it says there is an update available.
I am thinking there is something wrong with my iPad, that maybe it isn't installing the update correctly or something.
What could be going on here?
    Thanks
    Jason

iPod or iPad? you say both.
How much storage available on the device do you have? You need about 2.4 GB available
If you have an iPad, you can only update via wifi, not by cellular data.

  • IPad and constant carrier settings update requests

Hi, I recently updated to my MacBook Pro to Mac OS X 10.7.4 and my iPad to iOS 5.1.1. Now, every time i plug my iPad into my MacBook Pro and iTunes launches, it tells me I need to update my carrier settings.
    …every time!
    What's going on?

    Same here.
I was working better than ever with the 3G signal.
Since the carrier update, it is sporadic. Especially at home.
I know this because when EDGE kicks in my radio goes crazy with static.
I get 3G half the time while at home.
I know the carrier update says nothing about improving signal. Maybe it is coincience.
    I dont know.
The static on EDGE drives me crazy...

  • Are the "Carrier settings update" as invasive as it sounds?

I keep getting the prompt to update "carrier settings" and even though I cancel, it comes back. I read the page dealing with it on the Apple support, but it seems to say Apple wants to collect information about me, my use and possibly content from my carrier. I'm not ok with that. Am I getting it wrong? If I'm right, can they legally make it mandatory for me to download? Can I turn it off somehow without downloading it?
    Thanks

TY, I started getting it 3 days ago and had never seen it before either. This is all they have to say about it.

  • After updating carrier settings i cannot sync music

i was told to update my carrier settings today and after doing so i now am told to erase all my songs in my iphone because it's sync with another computer. i only have been using this computer. it's rediculous to erase 50G of songs and reinstall them.
    what do i do?

I have the same problem: sounds muted for all apps, alerts (except the phone ring). It seems to be an intermittent software (iOS 6) problem (other threads suggest the software fault might be related to managing the docking connection state).  Mine also has some weird link to the docking connection.
After multiple reboots, "Reset All Settings" and ear-buds in/out didn't work, I was going to resort to a complete wipe.  My work iPhone 4S isn't associated with my home PC / iTunes, so I went to do a manual back-up of photos to my PC - but no photos were visible on the PC (using Windows Explorer). The windows transfer app also alerted me that there were no photos (even thoough there were 200+ on the phone).  I took a new photo and tried again and there were all the old photos.  Also, sounds were back, plus the hardware volume control buttons were working again.
However - disconnecting and rebooting and the controls/sounds go away again after entering my passcode .
Plugging back into an non-iTunes PC seems to bring them back... Very frustrating.

  • Iphone 3.0 Update with Carrier Update After?

I just updated to Iphone 3.0 and now I see that there is an update for Carrier Settings? should I do it? Im on the Fidos/Rogers network...

I deleted the backup file and I've been watching the backup process create new files in the backup folder on my HD. The precess ran smoothly until 90% of the progress bar was full. It took about 15 minutes to get to 90%, but even though the backup folder continues to show new items are being added its been about 30 minutes without any visible movement of the progress bar in iTunes (8.2). I'll let it keep running to see if the download process completes and post the results. I now have almost 6500 items in my backup folder which represents about 500 MB.
Hoping that once I get through one download successfully that future downloads will be less painful.

  • Reset carrier settings after changing the carrier

    Hi,
I want to reset the old carrier settings under "settings -> general -> about" and remove a carrier button which was added by my old carrier under "settings -> phone". Is this possible?
Thank you very much in advance!
    Kind regards
    Sebastian

You should be able to make the iPhone download the new carrier settings by tapping Settings > General > About, if it's a partner carrier.
See this Apple doc for more info -> iOS: Updating your carrier settings
    Additional Information
Note: If you insert a new SIM or micro-SIM card into your iPhone or iPad, you'll need to download the carrier settings for the new carrier wirelessly. Carrier settings are available only for iPhone support carriers and iPad partner carriers. If you're not using a partner carrier, you will need to set up the carrier's settings manually. Refer to your carrier for appropriate settings.
Edit: What carrier are you trying to switch to? It sounds like you'll have to update the settings manually.
