Update to "when I open itunes I have no library"
Have checked my "my music" folder in windows explorer and all my music is still listed in my itunes folder. When I go into the folder marked "itunes library" I get a message saying windows cannot open this folder.
Looks like if I get this folder to open I will have my itunes library restored.
Wary about reloading itunes in case I overwrite this folder and lose my library.
Can anyone give me an idiots guide as to how to restore this folder or get round this problem.
OK, here's what I have done. I have reloaded all my songs onto iTunes. I closed the program, shut down my comp and waited a day. After turning on my comp the next day, I opened iTunes, and my library was immeadiately sent to the recycle bin and my iTunes was "reset" to the orignal settings that I had deleted: Set just for music, NO MusicMatch, NO playlists for 90s songs, classical music, etc.
The two files in my recycle bin were: iTunes Library Extras and iTunes Library Genius. Upon looking at the properties, these files were made in June 2011. I restored them to their original location, but nothing happened to my iTunes screen, so I closed it. Upon opening it again, they were again sent to the recycle bin and new files were put into their place....along with more .tmp files.
I have no idea where to look for any scans of these files...I have Norton 360 to do my scanning. I don't know what settings I should have in my iTunes preferences so that this doesn't keep happening.
It used to never do this. It basically started in the summer of 2011 when I upgraded iTunes to the newer version.

When I open itunes I have no library
Can someone please help.
My daughter has been using my PC to copy cd's. When I restarted PC I open itunes and all I get is a blank library.
Suggests to me that the route to my library has become corrupt.
Can anyone help me to find my missing library?????
Thanks.somehow lost access to my iTunes library.
What does iTunes have to do with this? Also more specific information might be helpful.
What system and iPhoto versions are you running?
Where are you being asked to select a library? What kind of library, iPhoto or iTunes?
What do you see when you first launch iPhoto?

When I open Itune, I have this message from windows: l'exception instruction privilégiée (0xc0000096) s'est produite dans l'application à l'emplacement 0x02fb21d4. After I close the message, Itune close.
I think we might try the following document with that one, madubc:
iTunes 10.2 for Windows: Quits unexpectedly with "Unknown software exception (0xc0000409)" alert
(The theory with that procedure with installing Safari 5.0.5 is that it updates your Apple Application Support. Apple Application Support contains single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs (such as iTunes, QuickTime and Safari) so the effect of updating it is that iTunes and QuickTime program files will also be updated.) -

My Windows XP software recently had an automatic update and now when I open iTunes, I receive the message "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes."
I have not used iTunes for several weeks so the issue may not be related to the last Windows XP automatic upgrade. I have never had problems with iTunes in the past. Is this a real message or perhaps a virus?
Before I reinstall iTunes, any thoughts? It's a real message.
Let's try a repair install of iTunes.
Restart the PC first.
If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair".
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", and click "Change". Select "Repair" and click "Next" as per the following screenshot:

when i open itunes the warning itunes Library.itl appears with the following message. ..."it cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. after checking software updates we have the lastest version. What to do?
Perhaps check to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes. There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

I recently updated to iTunes 11 on my Windows PC. Since the update, each time I open iTunes its window is too large for my screen. Resizing it is a pain, because I have to change my screen resolution. And then when I restart iTunes, it has reverted back to being too large. Please help!
Having the same issue here....a quick fix is to just minimize the window, and immediately maximize it. It will now fit the screen. Trouble is, after you close it, you'll have to do it again when you re-start itunes. The good news is it takes all of about 2 seconds. Apple should fix this. Should.

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

When I open iTunes, it will not allow me to preview or download TV shows. The preview and download options are gray and will not let me view them. I have tried installing the latest Quicktime but it tells me that I have to do software update and when I do, Quicktime does not appear to need an update. I have no idea what to do
Click on your preference and check the Parental tab for possible restrictions. Open iTunes, then click the iTunes menu, select preferences after the window opens click on the Parental icon, take a look at the content restrictions section.

When I open iTunes I keep getting a error message asking me to reinstall iTunes 64 bit version. I have reinstalled but still get the message. Does anyone know a fix for this?
This is obviously a problem apple! Please look at your community boards and see that a number of people have issues with the latest update and sort out.
I have tried a number of times to install the update and have failed getting the same message as you. Tried with the 32 bit instead & no luck. Ive come on here to see if anyone else has a solution & found we all have the same problem. Someone else tried the old uninstall reinstall trick to no avail. Please sort this out apple!! -
