Update to Yosemite with Windows 8 Bootcamp?

I have a 2012 MBP 13in non-retina. It currently has OS X 10.9.4 and Windows 8 that I installed via Boot Camp. I was just wondering is it safe to get the new OS X update when it's released? Will it mess with the Windows partition?
Also my MBP refuses to update to OS X 10.9.5. The update appears in the app store and I can click to update. It says it's updated and that I need to restart. But when I restart, it's still running 10.9.4. When I go back to the app store it lists the 10.9.5 update under "Updates Available" and "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days".
Help on either question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1. You can download the 10.9.5 update and manually apply it. Please see About the OS X Mavericks v10.9.5 Update.
You can also download the manual update installer. This is a useful option when you need to update multiple computers, but only want to download the update once. Standalone installers are available from Apple Support Downloads.
2. Yosemite is still not GA. Apple should not break Bootcamp, if they know what is good for them. . All software updates have inherent risk. Make sure you have good backups of OSX Mavericks and Windows, both.

  • DVD optical drive no longer works with Windows under bootcamp or parallels

For some strange reason, the DVD optical drive- Optiarc 5680 on my 27" iMac, no longer works anymore with Windows under Parallels or Bootcamp. It used to work perfectly fine before, but now it just shows up with a yellow exclamation mark under Device Manager and Code 39 "Windows cannot load the device driver..."
The DVD drive continues to still work fine with OSX. But it won't work anymore under Windows via Parallels or bootcamp, despite trying to uninstall the optical device drivers, update, reinstall, etc. Anybody else experiencing this or have any ideas?

Finally found the solution for anybody else who runs into this problem. It was solved by doing a registry mod in Windows from this site:
    http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
described in “My CD drives have vanished (from Explorer, Device Manager, etc.)”
After applying the registry changes the DVD optical drive worked instantly again with Windows....sigh...guess I can't blame the Mac on this one.

  • Sharing with Windows via BootCamp

I hope this belongs in this forum and not BootCamp. I just got a MBP and am planning to install Windows to allow me access to my version of PhotoShop and some Windows only presentation software I use (Media Shout and EasyWorship) Anyway, is there a way for me to use iPhotos' great organizational features, but put the images on an external HD that I can also access via Windows? I believe i would need to create folders (nature, family, etc.) in order to have any sort of organization while in Windows. Any thoughts on how to share an iPhoto library with Windows?
    Thanks!

I have a full copy of Photoshop CS2 for windows, will this run sufficently well under either bootcamp / parallels
It will run fine on both of them.
It will run better using Bootcamp/Windows.

  • Will a 10 point touchscreen work as well on a mac with windows 8 (Bootcamp) as it would on a normal PC?

I'm just on the verge of purchasing a touchscreen monitor and a Mac Mini and installing Windows 8 using Bootcamp. I was just wondering if anybody knows how well supported Windows 8 is on Macs?
I have a Macbook Air with Windows 7 and it runs exactly as it would on any other Windows only laptop, but I wondered if this will be the case with Windows 8 as it's a newer OS, especially the touch control?
I would use windows 8 75% of the time and specifically rely on the touchscreen interface so I would really need the touchscreen to be flawless while in Windows 8. Alternatively the monitor I'm looking at can be purchased as an all in one but I'd really prefer the Mac Mini for the awesomeness of Apple Care and to have the best of both worlds as far as OS's are concerned.
Any info or advice from anyone that's using Windows 8 with Bootcamp and specifically with a touchscreen monitor would be awesome!

http://www.trolltouch.com/ is probably your best bet as they made their software for all operating systems.

  • Euro Symbol with Windows 7 Bootcamp

I'm using a Macbook with Windows 7 via Bootcamp and I'm having a hard time finding the Euro Symbol. I've tried every combo of numbers+alt+shift. Is there a shortcut for this symbol in bootcamp? I do not want to keep copying and pasting it from the internet into my doccuments.

In my case, using Mac Aluminum keyboard, looking at this:

Pressing Right Alt key and key  0 1 2 8 in numeric keypad
causes € to appear when you stop pressing on Alt Key.

  • Need help with Windows on Bootcamp vs. Parallels

    Hello,
I installed windows 7 on a boot camp partition of my hard drive. I also installed windows 7 on Parallels with the same activation key (afterwards).
The activation key is legit, or at least should be, I bought it online.
The issue I'm having after 30 days of use is this: The parallels version of windows is telling me my version of windows isn't 'genuine', I get a black background, but can still use windows and parallels fine.
The boot camp version of windows... (the version I installed first) is running fine, no 'not genuine' messages.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Am I getting the error because I have 2 versions installed with the same key?
    2. The software I need to run is running better on parallels than on boot camp (the interface and resolution look more appropriate and it's just easier to use). I'd like to just delete the entire boot camp partition. Will doing so solve my issue with windows, or should I deactivate windows on that side first?
    3. If I should deactivate windows 7 on my boot camp partition, how do I do that?
    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks for the reply.
I'm not running bootcamp through paralells so I have installed two copies.
Can you tell me what the M$ IVR line is, do you just mean customer service?
Something interesting is that when I checked my code with Microsoft it said that "The product ID number that you entered is not supported in the country that you have selected." Does this ring bells or mean anything to anyone? Does it mean the key was pirated, or just intended for sale in a different country? I bought it from a software retailer online, and I'm assuming it's legit because it runs fine on the bootcamp side. So I'm wondering if this error message could be related to the double install or what?
Can someone provide me a link instructing how to delete the bootcamp partition? Is that a pretty straight forward process?
    Thanks

  • TS3694 itunes will not install on my laptop any more. The latest update seems incompatible with Windows Vista.

The latest iTunes update will not install on my HP laptop with Windows Vista. There is a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error message and it will not load or set p.

I reinstall Quicktime and it would not launch and gave me the same error messages.
We'd better check to see if some other application has stashed old versions of QuickTime componentry down in your system files.
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • OVI Suite forced update prevents use with Windows ...

I was using an older version of Ovi suite due to the later versions being incompatible with Windows 7 Starter. This has worked absolutely perfectly for me for months, however, this morning I was shocked to see that I was faced with an ultimatum from Nokia, either update or not use the program at all. SInce Windows 7 Starter edition does not work with the latest editions (according to the website), Nokia has essentially (and deliberately), prevented Windows 7 Starter users from using Ovi suite regardless of whether they were using the service perfectly well before on older versions.
If this is actually the case, then quite frankly I'm extremely dissapointed, it's a very poor decision to force users to do anything, especially if it prevents some from using the program without being forced to pay for software updates that they don't otherwise need.
I have been a Nokia customer on and off for at least 10 years now. If what I said above turns out to be true, I won't be buying a Nokia product ever again. A real shame.

    Karren,
Ditto on the thought.  I am a new Nokia customer. I was woowed by the Nokia Maps but disappointed by the problems I have recently encountered.  I shouldn't have to take hours on this to simply find out that there is no simple solution to my problem. Quite frustrated!

I have macbook pro early 2011  and my disk drive not working.
I tried to install windows via bootcamp by an external disk drive but it failed to boot from the windows install disk.
    how can i install it?

The Snow Leopard Windows drivers are on your Snow Leopard install disk. There is no download for Windows drivers and Snow Leopard.
You should include your computer model and year in your posts. Answers may vary depending on your hardware.
XP is not supported on newer Apple computers. You should install Windows 7.

have acrobat version 6.1 bought a new computer with windows 8.  tried to install but got message there are compatibility issues.  Noticed when I push print option dont get the adobe option.

You can try the compatibility setting, but another issue may be if you have a x64 system. AA6 was never designed to work in a 64-bit environment, giving a second level of compatibility to consider. Even on Win7, there were operational issues (like AcroTray not working) and Win8 should just be more of the same and maybe worse. If you can succeed in getting it installed in a compatibility mode, we might then discuss the workarounds you will need. I would strongly recommend you upgrade (well purchase -- too late for the upgrade) to AA XI.

  • Poor graphics performance on Macbook Pro with windows 7 bootcamp

I have a 13" Non-Retina Machbook Pro with Intel HD 4000 Graphics, purchased around 2 years ago. I installed Bootcamp for certain assignments for school, running Windows 7, and started playing videogames on it. I played Dark Souls and Chivalry, mainly, and both ran reliably at a pretty mediocre framerate but with decent graphics settings. I picked up Dark Souls 2 in the summer, and was able to run it and medium-high graphics with decent framerate. several months later, after not having played on Windows for a while, I came back to Dark Souls 2, but found that the game would run with this strange, pulse-y lag, like everything would animate quickly for a moment before pausing and continue again. the framerate itself was normal, it would just stutter constantly. (about one pause per second) and it wasn't a complete freeze, either. The game would move very slowly for a moment instead of freezing.
Anyway I was surprised and decided to test it with Chivalry. Same Problem. Kingdoms of Amalur, same problem. All of these were windows only so I decided to compare something that could run on both platforms. I tested it with league of legends - Mac side: Medium-high graphics with 60 fps. Windows side: Low graphics with pulsing lag and 30fps.
I read through some articles and found something about SMC reset. Tried that. No effect.
Then I updated my drivers. No effect.
Any idea what's wrong with my windows-side graphics?

I have Windows 7 Pro Boot Camped on my Mac Mini (late 2012) HD 4000 as well. Nvidia driver. On a graphics intense game of mine I have learned to just get by. Unfortunately using Nvidia or other graphics driver updates through Windows Update is the best you can do. I would not attempt or recommend a newer graphics driver from the manufacture website. You may end up rendering your Windows unusable. Windows 7 has great benefits on a Mac, but, limited user options. One of my graphics intense programs had to be found and purchased from the App Store. Windows version just would not run correctly. If you are stuck with the RAM that came with your MBP, you may want to upgrade to 8 or the full 16 GB of RAM which may help. Otherwise I find Windows to run quite well. I use it for DVD playback and Media Center which runs great. I have 4 GB of RAM. Cheers!

  • Error with windows 7 bootcamp drivers

    Hello,
I've installed Windows 7 via bootcamp and it's working fine, the only issue is that I don't have sound and I read that to get that I should install the drivers from my OS disc.
The problem is that when I insert the disc and run the setup file, it doesn't install the drivers. Instead it asks me whether I would like to "remotely install mac os x" or "share cd/dvd" (don't know if I got the wording 100% on those, but something like that).
I tried going through with the sharing, maybe thinking that would lead to downloading the drivers but it didnt accomplish anything. I have a friend who did bootcamp and he said that his didn't work anything like that, he just put in the disc and it installed the drivers.
So am I doing something wrong? I am 100% sure it is the right disc (even asked my friend to double check). Windows is fully installed (i can get online and everything).
Apologies if this has been asked/answered before. No amount of keyword searching let me find a similar topic.

In reading your original post it appears Windows works fine except the sound issue. There must be Apple drivers present or lots of things wouldn't work. The only thing I can think of is to try to repair the Drivers. I have Boot Camp on two MacBook Pros with Vista and Win7 and have had no problems with the drivers except to update the graphics for a recent game. Both the internal and USB external speakers are good.
If You Have Problems Installing the Device DriversIf it appears that the Boot Camp drivers weren’t successfully installed, try repairing them.
    To repair Boot Camp drivers:
1  Start up your computer in Windows.
2  Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
3  If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
4  Click Repair and follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed WindowsLogo testing, click Continue Anyway.
If you need to reinstall specific drivers, you can install one driver at a time. For example,if your built-in iSight camera isn’t working, you can reinstall just the iSight driver.
Individual drivers are in the Drivers folder on the Mac OS X installation disc.
    To reinstall a specific driver:
1  Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
2  Quit AutoRun if it opens.
3  Using Windows Explorer, locate the driver that you want to reinstall.
4  Open the driver to start the installation.
