does Safari run in Windows Server 2008 R2 (Terminal Services)?

    Hi Jess,
Here are two things I suggest you check:
The Monitoring interval is set to 900 minutes, would the profile size get reduced after 15 hours and run
    gpupdate/force?
Since the Sessenv.dll version is higher than the ones described in KB 2575946, the issue is supposed to be fixed. I suggest you run System File Checker to scan all protected system files.
In addition, you can also collect Gpsvc.log to determine if policies are applied successfully.
    More information for you:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 DNS service issue with BitLocker

I recently installed BitLocker on a Windows Server 2008 Platform. I did not encrypt the boot partition because the server hardware BIOS did not have the necessary requirements to encrypt the system drive.
The Server roles are ADSM, DC and File Server. For DC operation I am also running the DNS service.
When I installed the DNS role I was prompted to install the Log files on a different volume than the OS. I did this, but unfortunately, it was the same volume that was encrypted.
Since I could not encrypt the system disk, the encrypted volume must be unlocked via password in order to mount. Here in lise my problem.
When I do a full reboot of the server, I get to the point in the boot process where my mouse is visible and operational (this would be just before the Windows OS logo displays, I believe), then the server reboots. On the next boot up I am given the diagonstics
and recovery dialog because the OS failed to boot.
I believe the failure is the DNS service trying to launch, but because the log files are on the encrypted drive and it has not been unlocked, the system sees this as a security problem and reboots
Does this make sense? If it does, is there a way to boot 2008 R2 with the DNS service disabled, say with the original install disk in recovery mode?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this system cannot be booted in its current state.
    Peter C. Hesse Network/Systems Administrator

    Hi,
I believe you mean the Active Directory Logs not the DNS logs, because these are necessary to startup a domain controller, because the AD database depends on these logs.
So if you have AD logs on a different partition and that is encrypted with Bitlocker you could probably automatically unlock it.
So you did not encrypt OS partition because the server does not have a TPM fully compliant chip ?
    manage-bde /?
    manage-bde -autounlock -enable Driveletter:
But you have to be able to boot server normal mode I am not sure if the command can be used in DSRM mode.

sharing files, and dont know who has opened file,
We administrator can see and close opened file from "Manage opened files" but we want users also to see who has opened current file they are using instead of showing opened by another user displaying the user's name of the file opened.
Can anyone help me with this problem,
    Thank you in Advance,

    Hi,
I tried on a Windows 2008 R2 system and here is the result.
Here "2" is a standard domain user so it could be displayed correctly.
I would like to know if the issue specifically occurs on Office files? If so it could be an Office issue instead of system related. You can try one of the following 2 files:

  • Windows Server 2008 64-bit Service Java Crash

Using the same process that has worked well for creating Windows services for my admin and managed servers on 32-bit I created them on a 64-bit machine using beasvcx64 and JAVA_VM=-server. The server generates a fatal Java exception when starting:

Does anybody have these servers running as Windows services on 2008? Were there any special steps you took?

    You nailed that Christian.
In my services both the admin and managed server were being started with the memory argument: -Xms32m -Xmx200m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m
I think this is the default.
I changed it to the parameters used in the startup scripts and it worked the first time.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - BSOD Stop Error 0x00000050 RDPWD.SYS

    Hi all,
I have been struggling with a BSOD for the past 5 weeks and have scoured the web trying in vain to find someone else with the same issue.
    Environment:
8 x 2008 R2 SP1 Windows Servers (8Gb RAM, 25Gb HDD) with Remote Desktop Services Roles installed, running as part of an RDS Farm.  All Servers are VM Guests (hardware version 7) running on VMware vSphere v4.1.0-260247 Hosts (Dell
PowerEdge R710 - 128Gb RAM).  Our vSphere 'farm' has 5 Hosts that connect to our EMC SAN via iSCSI with multipath routes.
Each RDS Server is load balanced via a Connection Broker, and each server has the same set of software / vm hardware installed.  In a nutshell, each has Symantec Endpoint Protection v11.0.5002.333, Symantec Altiris v7.0, Microsoft Office 2007 as well as
other various software essential to these servers.
    Symptoms:
Randomly throughout the day, one (or more) of the RDS Servers will crash with a BSOD more often than not with "caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe" sometimes with "cng.sys" and once with "ksecpkg.sys".  So far in the 5 weeks I have had 90 crashes.  Yesterday
all 8 of the RDS Servers crashed at some point throughout the day.
On a typical BSOD, it says:
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ntoskrnl.exe
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    Technical Information:
    *** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xfffffa800c153284, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff880053dc0c9, 0x0000000000000000)
    *** ntoskrnl.exe - Address 0xfffff8000169ac40 base at 0xfffff8000161e000 DateStamp 0x4e02aaa3
Using BlueScreenView it says "caused by address: ntoskrnl.exe+7cc40" nearly every time.
I have analysed as best I could using Microsoft WinDbg, and this is the output of a typical mini-dump file:

The RDS servers are set to reboot automatically, and after a period of 5 minutes or so, the users can reconnect and log back in.  On a typical day each server will have around 10 people RDP'd in to them.
The Users connecting to the RDS Servers included XP laptops/desktops and IGEL UD-120-LX Thin Terminals.  The XPs have SP3 installed and are fully patched via Symantec Altiris.
    Things I have tried:
    - Analyse the dump-files (as per above).
    - I have tracked each user logging on to the RDS Farm (via batch scripts) and tried to determine if this is caused by the same individual(s) but it appears random.
    - Check to see if the crashing Virtual Machine is running on a specific host, but it has happened on all Hosts.
    - Check to see if there was anything specific that happened on the day that the crashes started.  There were about 5 new poeple introduced to the RDS Farm at that time, but there were using (a) client machines that had been used previously elsewhere with
no issues, (b) software that had been used previously, (c) in a remote location that had previous users using RDS, (d) have not been logged on to a RDS Server when it has crashed.
    - Updated Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 to the latest patches (as of Feb 2012).
    - Turned on Verifier (using recommended settings), and then analysed dump-files with the same reference to rdpwd.sys.
    - Fixed the Memory Resource Reservation in vSphere to the full 8Gb for all these RDS Servers (so that the memory is not shared at all).
    - Ran MEMTEST on a VM Guest with the full 8Gb RAM, on a couple of the ESX Hosts.
    - Changed the VMTools Video Driver to the SVGA II driver from the Standard VGA Driver.
    - Ran a full AV Scan (using SEP).
    - Isolated the Printer Drivers using the Printer Management MMC.
    - Ran sfc /scannow of all RDS Servers and rebooted.
The mini-dump file mentioned above is here:https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=48f471f287af2349&resid=48F471F287AF2349!105&parid=48F471F287AF2349!103
I hope someone can help, as what hair I have left (from pulling it out) is turning grey!

  • Cannnot use 3TB hard drive to install Windows Server 2008 R2

I am trying to install Windows 2008 R2 on a server with a 3TB HDD, but I can only create a 2TB partition on the hard drive, leaving around 800GB which I cannot even access. I can install Windows on the 2TB partition, but even after installation, I cannot
physically access the remaining 800GB. When I right click on the 800GB unallocated partition in Storage\Disk Manager, I have no options to create a new partition. If I right-click on the existing 2TB partition, I have no option to extend it using the remaining
    800GB.
    Motherboard details:
    Asus Veriton S460
    Product Name: EG31M
    System BIOS: R01-C2
    BIOS Release Date: 11/27/08
Can I do anything to use the remaining 800GB?
    Thanks.

    Known Issues/Limitations
Because the transition to a single-disk capacity of greater than 2 TB has occurred fairly recently, Microsoft has investigated how
Windows supports these large disks. The results reveal several issues that apply to all versions of Windows earlier than and including Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1.
To this point, the following incorrect behavior is known to occur when Windows handles single-disk storage capacity of greater than 2 TB:
The numeric capacity beyond 2 TB overflows. This results in the system being able to address only the capacity beyond 2 TB. For example, on a 3 TB disk, the available capacity may be only 1 TB.
The numeric capacity beyond 2 TB is truncated. This results in no more than 2 TB of addressable space. For example, on a 3 TB disk, the available capacity may be only 2 TB.
The storage device is not detected correctly. In this case, it is not displayed in either the Device Manager or Disk Management windows.
Many storage controller manufacturers offer updated drivers that provide support for storage capacities of more than 2 TB. Contact your
storage controller manufacturer or OEM to determine what downloadable support is available for single-disk capacities that are greater than 2 TB.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 problem

    Hi there
I'm a newbie to Flash media server and I would like to explore its usage.
Does any one have experience with Flash Media Server 3.5.3 running on Windows Server 2008 R2? I installed FMS on my Windows Server 2008 R2, but the admin console cannot start.
By the way, I installed FMS on a Windows Server 2003 32-bit machine. And I'm able to use the admin console on Server 2003 to connect to the Server 2008 R2 installation.
Also, I have a separate disk that is used to hold the media content to be streamed via FMS. How can I configure FMS to use that disk as root for media file instead of using "c:\program files (x86)\...\webroot\vod"
Thanks very much in helping me to start the project.
    Best Regards
    Steve Yau

ForThanks very much for your prompt response.
For (1), if I start "Flash Media Administration Console" from the Start menu, an IE prompts up and it tries to open "c:\program files(x86)\Adobe\Flash Media Server 3.5\tools\fms_adminConsole.htm" with the following in the information bar:
"An add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet Options for potential conflicts"
I thought it was the problem of flash player that cannot be run on 64-bit IE, so i tried 32-bit IE, but still in vain. I also tried to install flash player using 32-bit IE on Windows server 2008 R2 but the installation cannot start.
The FMSAdmin service is surely running with firewall configured. I've also installed FMS on another Windows Server 2003 32-bit. There I can start the admin console and connect to the Windows Server 2008 R2 FMSAdmin service.
For (2), I've added the line as per your kind help. But my question will be: How can I test whether my FMS is correctly streaming the video? For Windows Media Service, I can easily open URL in WMP and the streaming can be verified easily. But I don't know how to test FMS setup from web client side. Any clues? For your information, I don't have Adobe Flash or Dreamweaver stuff.
Thanks again for your kind help
    Regards
    Steve Yau

  • Windows update KB2964444 broke Event Logging Service and SQL Agent Service on Windows Server 2008 R2

    I got the following problem:
I discovered that on my Windows Server 2008R2 machine the event logging stopped working on 04/May/2014 at 03:15.
Also, SQL Agent Service won't run
The only change that day was security
    update KB2964444 - Security
Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows Server 2008 R2for x64-based Systems, that was installed exactly 04/May/2014 at 03:00. Apparently, that's what broke my machine...
When I try to start Windows Event Log via net
    start eventlog or via Services
    panel, I get an error:
    C:\Users\Administrator>net start eventlog
The Windows Event Log service is starting.
The Windows Event Log service could not be started.
    A system error has occurred.
    System error 2 has occurred.
The system cannot find the file specified.
    I tried:
restarted the OS (virtual on the host's VMWare).
re-checked the settings in services menu -they are like in the link.
checked the identity in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\eventlog -
    the identity is NT
    AUTHORITY\LocalService
gave all Authenticated Users full access to C:\Windows\System32\winevt\Logs
ran fc /scannow - Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
went to the file %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log -
all clean, [SR] Repairing 0 components
EDIT: Uninstalled the recent system updates and rebooted - didn't help

    What can be done?

    Hi,
I don’t found the similar issue, if you have the IE 11 please try to update system automatic or install the MS14-029 update.
    The related KB:
MS14-029: Security update for Internet Explorer 11 for systems that do not have update 2919355 (for Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2) or update 2929437 (for Windows 7
    SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) installed: May 13, 2014

  • How to create restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1

hi i am bhaskar ... how to create restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1 and how to restore system from a restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1.. is this option available or not ? what is the difference between shadow copies and
restore point ? instead of restore point we have this shadow copies option in windows server 2008 ?Bhaskar

AFIK, Restore Points doesn’t exist in Windows 2008.
Volume Shadow Copy option can be used to achieve:
Creating consistent backups of open files and applications
Creating shadow copies for shared folders
Creating transportable shadow copies using a hardware provider — for backup, testing and data mining scenarios
Quickly recovering and restoring files and data
It is more like a file, data, application backup.
