Update wiped everything out of iphoto

The latest auto update wiped everything out of iphoto leaving me an empty app. The photos are still in the library,...in a gagillion folders, but isn't there some way to restore all the albums and everything I had before? And is this going to happen every time there is an update?

Option click iPhoto and select Choose Library. Navigate to the iPhoto Library and iPhoto should see it now.
Is this going to happen every time there is an update?
No, I think that it just went wrong this time.

The update wiped everything off my phone. It was updating fine, and I came back to the dreadful "plug into itunes" symbol.
Can someone please let me know why it did this? I updated to the iOS 7 without any problems like this. It's the iOS 7.0.2 that really effed me over.
I am truly devastated. All the pictures of my family are lost because I didn't think that this would wipe out my phone. If I had known, I would have backed it up.

No device in the world is perfect, and if those photos were so important,
they SHOULD have been backed up in the first place, regardless of what
    device they were on.

  • I broke my old 4S and purchased the same one. I am trying to back up my contacts and notes stored on iCloud w/out wiping everything out. How do I go about doing so? I want to retrieve what I backed up priviously earlier in the month.

I had to buy a new phone b/c my last one broke before my 2 year contract was up. I have another 4S. I use iCloud and backed up my old phone earlier this month. I am wanting to upload my contacts & notes stored on iCloud to my new phone. How can I do this from the back up on my home computer before retrieving the backup from iCloud? I am not wanting to wipe everything out on accident..

Sorry but I'm a bit confused about what you're asking.  You seem to be indicating that you have an iCloud backup as well as a backup on your computer but it isn't clear to me what you are trying to do with them.  Can you explain this?

  • HT3576 I need to update my IOS otherwise I can't use half the apps... how do I do it without wiping everything out...

    ^^^^^^^^

Depends which generation of iPod you have. Older iPods cannot update to the latest version of iOS.
If you use iTunes to look for an update (with the iPod connected to iTunes), if you see a message saying that your iPod is up to date, that indicates (usually) which gen you have.
1st gen Touch can go as high as iOS 3.1.3
2nd gen Touch can go as high as iOS 4.2.1
    3rd & 4th gen can install iOS 5.
Alternatively, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 will help you identify which model and generation you have.
If you can update the iOS to a higher version, back up your iPod first.

  • I didn't want my iPod things restored on my iPhone and it wiped everything out including new update

I got my new iPhone and I plugged it into the computer and it restored all of my iPod things and got rid of all of my new things and the new iOS 7 update! How can I get  it back to normal again!? As if it was a "new iPhone".
    Thanks!

Did your new iphone have a backup made in itunes or icloud?  If so, all you need to do is restore from that backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase your device.  Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

  • IPhone update wiped everything...

I have an iPhone 3gs, and I recently updated to the most recent version. When it did this, it completely wiped out everything I had on my iPhone. I've never had a computer for it, and just used my sisters when I visited my parents.
So I plugged into my dads laptop, (which has never seen my iPhone), opened his empty iTunes, and pushed an update through. It literally took everything I had and trashed it. Luckily (maybe), I was able to go to my sisters computer and find the last update. AN ENTIRE YEAR AGO! So I have a bunch of outdated contacts and apps.
the worst part, though, is that I have about 20 paid apps that I CANNOT find out how to get onto my iPhone. "Sync iPhone" does nothing, and "Transfer Purchases" does nothing either.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this? It's Sunday night, and the custoemr service lines are down, and although I will be patient and call them back in the morning, I was sort of hoping to fix this all up now :/

iDevices can, by design, be synced with just one computer. When you connected it to your dad's computer, it pied everything as designed.
You can redownload all your past iTunes purchases by logging in to the iTunes store and selecting the Purchases tab in the Quick Links section (if on the computer). You should keep everything in iTunes and on your computer, anyway.

  • My computer crashed, so we wiped everything out and re-downloaded iTunes.  I'm trying to sync my ipad and/or iphone (since I use icloud), but it says that I already synced to another iTunes.  Help!!!

My computer crashed, so I had everything wiped out and I re-downloaded iTunes.  Now I am trying to put my songs back by syncing everything I have on my iPad.  It says I am already using or synced to a different iTunes library, so it won't let me sync.  What do I do now?  Help!!!

At some stage is is likely to have been connected to another computer's iTunes.  It is now linked to that computer's library and iPhones can only be associated to one library at a time.  Linking to a different one requires wiping the phone.
If you used the phone with another computer you owned you can transfer the iTunes library from that computer to this one and the phone will still be syncing with the same library it was before.
If all there is on the phone are items which can be backed up to iTunes and purchases which can be transferred you could do that, then wipe the phone and sync them back.

  • Updater wiped me out-how do I get an OS back on?

I tried to update my 8350i Nextel, instead it gave me an error message and the phone reads Reload Software 507.  Based on other posts, that means it has no OS.  How do I get an OS back on it so I can use it again?

  • How to fix a broken partition (without wiping everything out)

The power went out today (thanks, Hurricane Irene), and when I rebooted it threw an error message that one of my partitions had failed a disk check.  My installation is split across 3 partitions: /boot (ext2, 100mb, sda2), /home (ext4, 17gb, sda3), and / (ext4, 17 gb, sda4).  If I recall correctly it said sda3 was corrupted.
Anyway, it prompted me to remount as rw and run fsck, which I did.  Fsck found some stuff, then stopped for a reason I can't remember.  I tried rebooting and now it says it can't detect what file system type the kernel is.
So, if I boot from the Arch usb disk, what commands can I run to figure out what's actually messed up and fix it?  While I'm pretty comfortable on the command line, recovering disks is something I don't have experience with, so I don't know what commands to use.  I also have trouble taking the man page for a command and translating that to something that is usable for me.
The power is still out as I write this, so for now I can't provide any additional details or try anything.

2891066 wrote:it prompted me to remount as rw and run fsck, which I did.
    Yikes!  I hope that's a typo.
Run fsck again, on the unmounted partition and hope all comes out well.  You may even run it twice.  And hope some more.
fsck cannot keep track of file system changes if the disk is being written while it's being checked.
man 8 fsck.ext4 wrote:Note that in general it is not safe to run e2fsck on mounted  filesystems.   The only  exception  is if the -n option is specified, and -c, -l, or -L options are not specified.   However, even if it is safe to do so , the  results  printed  by e2fsck are not valid if the filesystem is mounted.   If e2fsck asks whether or not you should check a filesystem which is mounted, the only correct  answer  is ``no''.   Only  experts  who  really  know  what  they are doing should consider answering this question in any other way.

  • IOS5 update wiped my ipod completely

Updated to iOS5 this morning and have just spent the last 3 hours reinstalling everything back on to my ipod. The update wiped EVERYTHING and would not back up with a message that the back up file could not be found despite having spent several minutes backing up prior to the update.  Apps, music, photos, mail settings - all gone! Not happy!

i started the backup at about 5:45am and once it was done i upgraded and it took till like till about 15 min ago before everything was done and my i-pod touch 4th gen was useable again. i even saw the apps being backed up.
edit: my images are there but apps, music and videos all not on the i-pod touch.

  • Update wiped out my email accounts

I received several Blackberry messages over the past few weeks saying I was due for an update by January 17. I finally set it to happen at 2 a.m. about a week ago and when I tried to see what email I had the next morning, both my work account, yahoo, and gmail accounts were no longer available. Wiped out. When I try to set them up again, I receive a message that says, "user name invalid" and "at least 4 characters needed" even though I am keying in my same IDs and passwords. I called my phone provider and was told the phone would have to be completely cleared and start over again to get email. I am so disappointed and frustrated with Blackberry. If I had known I was going to lose email, I would have reconsidered or tried to ward this off in advance. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do? Is there any other recourse except wiping everything off the phone and starting over again? Am I missing something in trying to reset my IDs and passwords? I would hate to have to rebuild and reinstall everything that is on my phone -- contact, photos, etc. I've tried to contact Blackberry, but there is no phone or email information in order to speak with a technician. If I can't get any resolution, Blackberry will be in the dust as I look for another phone that won't wipe out my emails during udpades, upgrades or whatever takes place. Help!

You didn't say, but are you ACTUALLY trying to enter the BlackBerryID on your device?
Read this for instructions to reset your BlackBerryID password:

Is that what you need... or is this for an actual BlackBerry email address, such as "[email protected]"?

  • Firefox update wiped out all my preferances!

I'm getting rather fed up with Mozilla Firefox. First of all the UPDATE nag cannot be disabled despite the fact that I chose the setting "Never check for updates." Firefox ignores that preference and reverts to either automatic, or "Check and let me choose." THAT started the whole mess. Listen please FIREFOX developers: I DO NOT want you to control my updates. Too many times in the past, you have more or less forced an update on me only to result in my having to reset EVERY preference and add-on I had previously installed. When I complained about this inability of Firefox to remember my update preferences, I was informed that I absolutely had to update to 20.0.1 because 19.0.1 had "security holes". You know what, at this point I DON'T CARE, especially if I have to go through all this crap simply to have a decent browser. Nonetheless I bit the bullet and updated. Right out of the gate, the WELCOME page hijacked Google as my homepage and didn't go away. I reset everything back to Google and then the browser opened Google alright, but was immediately re-directed to the damned WELCOME page...every time I started the browser. I tried everything I could but nothing worked. The next step was to RESET Firefox. Well, it reset. Boy did it reset. I am now faced with reinstalling EVERYTHING including ALL my add-ons, extensions...EVERYTHING. I am really annoyed at the arrogance of Mozilla, assuming that THEY know what's best for my machine and my preferences. I really hope you fix this Mozilla. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is getting weary of having to re-do everything each time an update comes along...which, BTW is altogether too frequent.

This problem has persisted for me for several months. My recollection is that there once were actually one or two additional unique posts on this update wipe out effect. This is my first time using the new Firefox update stub. Maybe this has something to do with it? In any case, despite configuring Firefox to NOT update me automatically AND not in the background, the update occurred oddly. As contributor tdp2101 has said, the effects can be inconsistent. In my case, a manual update over the last several months has occasionally been successful, that is, without the wipe out, complete or partial. Somewhere in my current process I a) told Firefox to not update, b) was presented with a page that my version was out of date. I do not remember the exact sequence. There finally came a moment, however, when the stub for v22 seemed to not execute two times in a row. Specifically, clicking on the downloaded stub icon resulted in nothing happening on screen, twice. System did not freeze. Just nothing seemed to happen. I immediately, cold booted my machine, opened my extant Firefox to download the stub yet again but never got the chance. Firefox autoupdated, wiped out ALL preferences, presented the Google home screen. I reset all my preferences including Never Update, Never Check, and, this time, Require me to okay cookies. Then I sought whatever updated solutions Mozilla might have offered. Finding none, I wrote this post. In the past, I have implemented all the Profile changes, duplications, substitutions, and edit solutions that I guess have disappeared or aged out of this support archive. Yet the problem continues. I am Win7 x64. Thanks for any help.

  • How Can I Synch a Playlist Without Wiping Everything Else Out?

All right - I am getting tired of this.
I have about 950 songs on my Ipod. In iTunes, I create a playlist that contains about 14 songs by one artist. I want to transfer that playlist to my Ipod.
So I open up iTunes and hook my Ipod up to the computer. It whirs and buzzes for a second or two and then assures me my Ipod is in synch with iTunes. But it isn't, because my newly created playlist does not show up as a playlist on my Ipod.
So I click on "Mike's Ipod" and select the Music tab. Wanting to add the playlist to my Ipod, I click on the "Selected playlists, artists and genres" radio button. I then scroll down and select the playlist I want to add to my Ipod and hit Apply.
You know what's coming already, don't you? That's right - it transfers the playlist to my Ipod and WIPES OUT the rest of the 900 or so tunes I had on the Ipod. When all is said and done, I have an Ipod with a playlist on it containing some 14 songs and nothing else.
What am I doing wrong? How can I KEEP my entire music library on my Ipod AND add a newly formed playlist, without wiping everything else out?

then why do they give you the option of synching only a playlist?
As it states, you would use it only if you want to sync *Selected playlists* and not everything in your library.
If your iPod is smaller than your library, iTunes will automatically create a playlist that fits and select to sync only that playlist.
When would you ever want to do that, knowing that, if you did, it would wipe out everything on your Ipod except the newly installed playlist?
I wouldn't (usually) select to sync only one playlist. You can select multiple playlists and sync them.
I have a Christmas playlist and I don't sync that. None of the music and the playlist itself will not sync.
When I want to add Christmas music to my iPod, I select this Chrstmas playlist (in addition to the others I already have selected) to sync.
