Updated 2.2.1 - Now iTunes won't recognize iPhone (and iPhone won't work)

I had this happen last time I did an update too, but that was fixed by going into my control panel and starting my apple mobile device - I checked and this time all is running. I can't use my iPhone and iTunes won't show it's connected even though it is (so can't restore, etc. since it won't recognize the device). I've tried closing out of iTunes and re-connecting the phone - nothing. I'm on PC using 2003 Microsoft software.
Thanks for any insight.

Sorry, gave the wrong PC info. I'm on XP Professional, version 2002, service pack 3.
Please help!

  • Failure to backup while updating 3GS to iOS5 - now iTunes doesn't recognize iPhone!

Hi, I'm trying to update my 3GS to iOS5. Working on a brand-new Macbook Pro with Lion 10.7.2. Made sure I had the newest iTunes (10.5), synced my phone, transferre purchases to the computer, backed up manually for good measure. Downloaded the iOS5 update with no problem, and started the update process. Seemed to be going slowly but surely through the "backup" step of the update process. I left for five or ten minutes, and came back to a possible disaster:
    - computer had gone to sleep (guess I could have changed preferences, but I assumed that the update-in-progress would keep the computer awake)
    - iPhone screen shows the "plug USB into iTunes" graphic
    - when I woke up the computer, it showed an error message - upgrade failed. I'm pasting the text from the iPhone Updater Log below... it ends with "Restore Error 2009."
    - iPhone no longer shows up as a device in iTunes (or iPhoto). Tried closing and opening iTunes, disconnecting and reconnecting iPhone from USB port, and moving to second USB port. None of these worked. iPhone screen continues to display the "connect USB to iTunes" graphic. I found some relevant lines in the "all messages" log - pasting those below too.)
Anything I can do, short of bring both computer and phone to the Apple Store? (The phone is past warranty but I have AppleCare for the new computer)
Does the failure to back up mean that there is no previous backup I can get to? Any way to check if there's a working backup on the computer without it recognizing the iPhone?
All my apps, contacts, calendar items, music and photos are on my computer, so at least it seems that my data is not all lost. But the phone-to-computer connection doesn't seem to be coming back. Wonder if restarting computer could get it to recognize iPhone, but afraid of doing any more damage.
    Any help appreciated! Thanks,
    Adam

  • Upgraded to iTunes 6 - now iTunes won't work!

I have an older G4 and have been running iTunes since I upgraded to OSX about a year and a half ago. Never any problems. Just recently got an iPod from a friend and have been using that with no probs. for about 2 weeks. I was promped to update both iTunes and iPod software and did so like I always have. Now iTunes wont open at all. no error message, nothing. I trashed my old iTunes and re-installed a new one, no good. All of my software is updated. I am running OSX 10.3.9. I have seen many of the same postings but they all seem to be coming from PC users... hope someone can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks!

I had the same problem - upgraded to ITunes 6 and suddenly the application stopped working. I also tried uninstalling, and reinstalling old versions as well as v6. I called Apple, and they had me set up a test user to see if it was a systemwide failure (if it was just the upgraded Itunes on my main user that was affected, then the basic Itunes available for the test user should be fine). But it was systemwide, so I had to back up all data and reinstall the operating system, then run a software update to get my system back up to speed. After the software update, I ran a disc permissions repair to the drive (available under "Applications", then "Utilities", then "Disk Utility"), which is recommended after each install of software or software updates (I didn't know this, being somewhat new to Mac). But now Itunes 6 works fine, with no problems! Hope this helps.

i just updated my os to os x and now my iphoto (version 9.2.3) says that it won't work with this os.  i'm presently downloading the updated version (9.5), will this solve the problem?  thx

Frankly that is not a good idea
What exactly dd you do? Backin up your pictures is ot the same as backing up your iPhoto library - and if you pur your iPhoto library on an external drve it must be formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - if you backed up your iPhoto library then siply drag it back to the picture folder and launch iPhoto
i open iphoto it asks what library to use
That is because you have no iPhoto library in your pictures folder
deleted my pictures off of my computer.
    And that is why

  • I keep getting a message that itunes incorrectly tried to run the C runtime library and now itunes won't work anyone know how to fix it?

My computer keeps telling me that itunes tried to incorrectly run the C runtime library and now I can't get into it, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but nothing is working

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • Just loaded Lion on my iMac 2 days ago. The whole computer is on valium now. iTunes won't work right. Downloads fail. I AM SO FRUSTRATED I COULD CRY. I hate this.

I just loaded Lion on our iMac 2 days ago and it was the worst thing I have ever done.
How do I uninstall or remove it and go back to Snow Leopard?
I can't get any help right now due to time zones. I have an Apple Care account that isn't doing me any good.
    I HATE LION.
iTunes keeps timing out on an update download stating a 685MB download will take 7 hours.
EVERYTHING is slow slow slow like a pc.
    I hate this thing.
How do I get rid of Lion and go back to Snow Leopard.
I don't even care about the $29.95, just give me back my old computer!!

    leannfromspokane wrote:
    I want Snow Leopard back.
This is perfectly understandable. Please ignore the users that try to convince you that Lion is good. It isn't as of 10.7.1 . For production work I highly recommend using Snow until Lion gets its major bugfix update which is not on the horizon as far as "End Users" can foresee. Dev-talk is not allowed here, well they all swear 10.7.2 will do the wonders.. anyhow.
If your Mac was shipped with Snow preinstalled, then you must have either a Restore DVD or a USB thumbdrive. Apple delivered the DVD with all optical-drive equipped macs and the usb for the MacBookAir etc, that don't have a drive.
The procedure would be in all cases to boot the Mac from that recovery medium, thus landing inside Snow's installer which would give you the option to launch disk utility, erase the partition  and install Snow onto it .
Your personal data needs to be backed up before , and I do not recommend using Lion's timemachine for that but just copy the complete User Profile Folder with your name to a external drive for example. This will then include your documents // pictures // itunes media // library and so on. All that can be copied back to the same folder names in Snow .

  • Did the iTunes update & now it won't work at all!

I downloaded the iTunes update 2 days ago, and now iTunes won't work because it needs 10.4.9+ & all I have is 10.4.8
I tried to download the 'Combo' 10.4.11 but it crashed my system (the 'Restart' hung with turning wheel for over 2 hours) & I had to reboot from disk at the cost of several hours.
I only use iTunes for listening to the radio worldwide, nothing else. I have no iPod, have no purchased music.
Is there any way to uninstall the update? iTunes was just fine for me before the update.
Or, is there any way to install the 10.4.11 from a friend's disks? - since it's just an 'Update' which is available online, it doesn't sound like it would be illegal, but I want to keep "Kosher". I am assuming that even though the downloaded update crashed my system, loading from disk should work.
Any help would be appreciated - I am not very computer literate, so the simpler the better!
    -Erik

Finally solved the problem by going back to an older version of iTunes, which I found on FileHippo.com - I chose version 7.0 since I had no idea what older version I used to have.
The uninstall was the hard part, but these instructions did the trick:
    http://www.oldapps.com/forum/showpost.php?p=925&postcount=34
Even then, when I got the "iTunesSetup.exe", clicking on it got the message:"iTunes library cannot be read because it was created by a later version of iTunes". Apparently some fragment of the "update was hiding somewhere.
I finally solved this by right-clicking (option+click) on it.
So now I have iTunes back & have no need for the "Combo Update"
At this point, having had a week of frustration from that worse-than-useless "Update", I have no intention of messing with any more "Updates". This computer is, and will remain a 10.4.8 machine.

  • Can't deinstall Quicktime. Itunes won't work anymore..

    Hi
I'm having problems with my itunes / quicktime. It all started off when I wanted to open Itunes and I got a message that I need to update quicktime 6.5.2 to 7.1 or higher. Then I tried reinstalling Itunes hoping it would put the new quicktime on. Didnt work.. so I tried installing only quicktime.. and now - Itunes won't work (if I click the Icon it just does nothing).. reinstalling or deinstalling and then reinstalling doesn't help.. AND I can't deinstall quicktime. I always get a fatal error at the end of the deinstallation process..
Can someone help me? I would really like to update my Ipod..
    Thanks for your answers..

(blush) thank you kindly, Kirk. that means an awful lot coming from you.
although there's always a burst of reports of Codec Pack issues when the minimum version of QT required for an itunes version goes up, we've had a decided uptick in reports of problems that turned out to be related to them this time.
the combined symptom set that i always check for Codec Pack issues with is:
"itunes has encountered a problem" error message when launching itunes.
    error-message-free QuickTime launch failure.
QuickTime won't uninstall from Add/Remove Programs.
just this weekend, i managed to confirm it's worth checking for a Codec Pack issue if people get the following message (or the English equivalent) when trying to open their QT control panel:
Une exception s'est produite lors de la tentative d'execution de
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\quicktime.cpl",QuickTime"
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4476095#4476095
(other more standard varieties of broken QuickTimes can produce these symptoms, but the Codec Packs add complications to the treatment for them, so it's worth checking on the presence of a Codec Pack fairly early on in proceedings.)

  • ICal Crashing after startup; iTunes won't work

    My problem is twofold:
My iCal calender (desktop) crashes upon opening every time. I reinstalled Tiger (from "not for resale discs" supplied by Apple). It did not fix the crashing; I still can't use iCal. Now, iTunes won't work with this installation of Mac OSX.
I deleted iCal and reinstalled the OS again and I have the same results. Coincidentally, this crash happened after I upgraded to the iPhone 3Gs.
    Can anyone help me?

I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version.  I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again.  I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again.  My blue tooth doesn't work either.  I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this.  When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue.  My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!!  I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue.  Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it.  Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple.

  • Ask your question.stalled 10.5 and update on my G4 PB and now Itunes won't open due to library created by nwer version, How do I get the old version back ? thankfully I don't have anything in it, having deleted everything for room for the new install.

I just installed 10.5 and .8 update, from 10.4xx, Original 10.5 Archived and installed,   Now itunes won't, can't open due to "library created by a newer version error message,
How do I fix this ? uninstall ??? reinstall ?
I originally didn't have enough free space to intall the new OS so deleted everything/songs and some podcasts in itunes, backed up on another ipod.that hasn'r been updated so not missing anything, but now can't access\ another new(old) ipod and iphone (and not anytthing now) that wouldn't work on the old OS. due to not having the required itunes upgrade and not upgradeable on 10.4xx
    Thanks in advance.

After reinstalling itunes like PowerBloodRespect said, go into itunes on your account and connect your ipod. On the ipod summary tab, uncheck the box to launch itunes when the ipod is connected.
You also might want to go into itunes preferences on both accounts.
On the Device tab, put a checkmark in the box to prevent ipods from syncing automatically.
