Updated Bios... Cant Boot

I have a X79A-GD65 (8D) and I decided to update the BIOs via the update software from USB. I went from 1.8 to 4.4. Everything was successful until it got in this loop of starting for a second then turning off. Then doing that forever. So I tried resetting the cmos by taking out the battery. That failed... Then I switched the bios from A to B. Now on B it shows B2 then I just get a blinking _ forever. I took out all my ram except for one 4 gig stick. I do have a 770GTX in there which maybe the issue. But I cant see anything without it. Theres no other video input. So what did I do wrong and how do I fix this?  I dont even know why I tried upgrading my bios uhg it always ruins .
Any ideas? The hardware is all good. Just the bios being a bitch.

Are you using option 1 of the forum tool pointed at the compressed archive? (You aren't decompressing or anything like that?)
If so you may have to do a manual FPT flash.

place the application/ fparts and bios file on a dos bootable usb stick
sytax: fpt -f [name of bios] -savemac
I am assuming you will get the error and will need to re-try w/o the -savemac
once done you will need to re-store the mac address.

    Are you saying that you are trying to update the BIOS through USB, but you are unable to?

  • Will Z87 GD65 Gaming boot with 4790k in order to update BIOS?

    So, I have a Z87 GD65 Gaming motherboard.
    I was planning on buying a 4770k cpu, but changed my mind to 4790k. The motherboards supports 4790k in the last release of BIOS.
    Do i have to buy a supported CPU (or send to a local store) to update BIOS or can I boot directy with the 4790k and update?

    board needs to be at least at bios 1.9 to even post with a Haswell refresh cpu. While 4790K is officially supported with the later bios 1.A it should at least post with 1.9. Therefor a boar manufactured before 2014-02-24 will not work out of the box with a 4790K and a supported Haswell cpu to flash or update by a shop will be needed to use the cpu.

    Since I updated BIOS from 1.5 to 1.9 linux on usb drive does not boot, asks for drive A after selecting USB drive for booting.
    1) can somebody confirm this?
    2) where can I download original BIOS 1.5in order to downgrade

    Go into the BIOS and press the key that sets defaults. It's F9 I think.Then save and exit.
    Also check that the USB drive is actually bootable. Try booting it on another PC, or try another bootable USB drive that you know works.

  • Updating Bios

    Hello,
    I am trying to upgrade the bios on a friends motherboard. MSI 6787 ver:2 with an Award Bios V6.00PG. I have found the file AWFL826B.exe and W6787VMS.260 I think these are the correct files.
    With the files came a Word document telling you haw to flah the bios. In big writing it states "Do not use a floppy drive to update the Bios".
    Now here is my problem.
    The computer was having a few problems and the XP Home disk was not updating as this was a Tiny machine there xp disks are invalid. So I have bought a new XP Home disk and tried to install it. I have partitioned, formatted and the files where loaded but when the computer re-boots the Windows logo appears and the little Knight Rider thingy goes accross the screen 3 times then it freezes.
    I performed this operation 3 times and it froze in the same place each time. I have also tried new memory, new dvd drive, new Cmos battery, even a new hard drive and still the same. So now im down to flashing the bios. But as I cant boot-up all the way I cant load the bios files to the c: drive as instructed by MSI????
    So does anybody know if there is a specific reason why I cant load the files via a floppy disk??
    Also has anybody any ideas of what else could be wrong with the system?

    Neither is the content verified after writing to CD by default on most CD writing programs, unless the user specifically enables the option, and most people don't know the option exists.
    The ROM file checksum is calculated when read/uploaded by the flash utility using the exact same method no matter the media used, thus the 'reliability' is exactly the same no matter the media used.  The flash utility also verifies its own checksum.
    The top causes of bad BIOS flashes are using the wrong BIOS ROM file, incorrect use of command line switches (or not using switches when required), buggy WinFlash methods, and the known inherent risk of writing to flash EEPROM.
    Floppy disks as a likely cause of a bad BIOS flash falls somewhere between power fluctuations and solar flares.
    You will also find it recommended here to use a RAM drive for flashing the BIOS in DOS, a practice that is explicitly warned against by every major developer of BIOS software and flash utilities (Award/Phoenix and AMI).  DOS-based flash executables from AMI and Award/Phoenix have always required a pure DOS environment with NO MEMORY MANAGERS or other non-essential memory resident programs.

    Tried to up date my H61M-P21(B3) Motherboard using the  7680vJ0.exe file on a usb stick  from the MSI web site Version 19.0   Failed to update now can not get in to bios setup and just get a message..   Updating BIOS..................File not found
    Can some one send me a link to the file I need to put on the usb stick? or email me the file please? All I have on the sitck at the moment is EIVB.BIN 7680vJ0.exe and a folder called XPELXR2X that is empty.Or do I have to rename the EIVB.BIN to somthing?
    Cant acess the biose menu or the boot device menu so Im stuck any help would be very much appreciated...sorry think I posted this in the wrong section before

    Yup. That would probably work. I don't know. Not sounding good. Is there a reasonable priced pc shop in your area that has an SPI flash programming device that could flash the chip for you?

    - Press ThinkVantage, Press F1, Press Fn+F1
    - Power off, unplug AC, unplug battery, wait 15 miniute, try all again
    - Try to update BIOS again

    That is really weird.
    When you are in Windows, can you test and see if the F1 key is working? If it is working. Shut down the laptop then boot it back up. At the Thinkpad screen, keep spamming the F1 key and see if you are able to boot into BIOS.

  • Cant boot from USB or DVD to install WIN 8.1 ENT

    Hello,
    Im currently evaluating a Thinkpad tablet 10 at work. The installed OS is atm 8.1 Pro but we have to reinstall with 8.1 Enterprice in order to get everything to work within our network.
    But this have been more difficult than i thought. Im totally unable to bot from USB or DVD.
    To sum up:
    - Made bootable usb win 8.1 ent (fat32) with Rufus
    - Made bootable dvd with PowerISO
    Both works perfect in an ordinarie PC.
    - Mainly booting from computersettings/reset/advanced start/use unit. 
    - Changed boot order in BIOS
    - Toggled safe boot on/off
    - Tried usb hdd / usb fdd / usb cd/dvd / etc
    Whatever i choose - i reach the ordinarie win-login page. 
    - Updated bios to latest version
    Whatever i do - No boot reaction at all.
    Hope I will get some answers so that we can use this tablet.

    Did you ever get this to work?  I even made the Diag USB with the tablet 10 special code - and when I select the USB device for boot, screen goes black for a few seconds - then back to the menu.
    I can't boot a default win 8.1 Pro CD either (with a lenovo USB drive).
    I tried win10 and it pooched my system - does not boot at all, so I need to boot of an external device.

  • H61MU-E35 (B3) Updating BIOS....File Not Found Error

    I have MSI H61MU-E35 (B3) Motherboard with Intel i3 CPU.
    I downloaded latest BIOS File  7680vC3.zip (on web page it's says Version: 12.3 from  -> -www.msi.com/support/mb/H61MUE35_B3.html#down-bios
    Using Windows XP OS  From 7680vC3.zip => Extracted E7680vC3.exe  => Placed on USB Drive (I did not format USB Pendrive, and used by just making it empty by deleting files) ==>  Ran this exe file on the computer where this motherboard is....
    Inside Windows XP, when BIOS Update process started, In a green window, it shown me current BIOS old version and  New Version side by side.  (I did not given much attention to notedown from which number to which number it's updating).
    In Windows XP after BIOS Process completed, it restarted computer (I kept USB File as it in the computer as I had read that, I have to keep USB in computer after restart).
    When computer restarted...nothing came on the screen and just blank screen for long time and on the right side on screen bottom corner only letter like: A2 stayed for long long time.  I waited for 15 minutes but nothing was happening except blank screen...
    So, I restarted computer....and kept USB as it is in the computer....but Nothing comes on the screen...
    After I concluded that, something is wrong, to resolve the issue...
    --- What Try and Experiments I have done  ----------------------------------------------------------------
    (1) I placed Restarted computer without USB: and Message comes on the screen is:
    BIOS Update is not yet completed, please insert the USB pen drive  and reset system.
    (2) I refered some forums, and also contacted MSI Support. As suggested, I formatted USB Drive with FAT32 and placed  E7680IMS.C30  file (only one file) on USB placed in computer and started computer.. Now Message is coming:
    Updating BIOS...... File Not Found..
    Note that: E7680IMS.C30  File was given to me by MSI Support Staff as I did not kept Original files during formatting USB PenDrive.
    But computer is not looking for .C30 Rom File, Computer is looking for .BIN File
    (3) I have remove the battery and waited for 5 min. and placed again, to reset BIOS, but not difference on result or on message...
    Renamed: file E7680IMS.C30 to EIVB.BIN
    Result: Just Blank Screen with A2 text on right side bottom corner, No other message
    In some other same issue post, they recommand to change ROM File name to: EIVB.BIN which worked for others, so I also tried and renamed: file E7680IMS.C30 to EIVB.BIN, in this case, I was able recreate original Issue:  When computer boots, Screen stays completely Blank, and on the right side bottom corner, only 2 digit tect comes is: A2. Computer does not give any other message and nothing happens...even I waited for 30 minutes...
    Also, by looking at USB Pendrive light, I can tell that, motherboard is reading file on the Pen Drive...
    Renamed: file E7680IMS.C30 to E7680IMS.BIN
    Result: Message comes on the screen: Updating BIOS...... File Not Found..
    (5) What I am thinking is:  When motherboard power-ups, it's giving me two different type of Valid message based on if USB is in the computer or not, based on if file name is .BIN or not, so I believe motherboard is still not dead and there are hope to feed the file which motherboard is looking for. But issue how to find what specific file which it's looking for... Even sometime I have seen at screen right side bottom area, 2 Digit numbers are changing just like system is doing internal healthcheck before booting up...
    (6) Note that, I would like to put old version file on USB to feed, but one of the biggest issue with MSI is, once you download EXE from their website, to Extract EXE file content it needs to be run on the same motherboard computer, so in my case, if your motherboard is not in bootable cituation then you can not extract any other BIOS File to try...
    Please help me...by havin this computer down....I am suffering everyday...
    (By profession, I am electronics Engineer and have worked with programming Microcontroller and bootloaders, but in this case, I do not have SPI Programmer to program BIOS chip externally.)

    Quick Result Summary:  128MB USB Key formatted FAT32 with HP Tool, made MS-Dos Bootable and placed EIVB.BIN file given by  flobelix, but final result is: Screen comes Blank and only shows "A0" Code at right side bottom corner. nothing else.
    Detail
    Since Flobelix proviced ROM BIN File, I was too exicited to try it out and here is what I did...
    (1) As per Nichrome link for HP USB Format Tool, I installed it on "Win XP" machine, and formatted 128MB USB key by selecting "FAT32" and selected option to make "MS-DOS Bootable" and shown Win98 source files as per the instruction.
    -128MB USB drive made bootable with FAT32.
    (2) I downloaded EIVB.rar given by flobelix and extracted and copied EIVB.BIN file on USB root.
    Inserted USB in MSI and powered up...
    As soon as I give power:  Imidiately one normal beep and Screen comes completly Dark Blank. No message about "File not found".  only at right side bottom of screen, it shows "A0".
    I inserted USB key in each and every USB slot, but result is same: Screen stays Blank and on right side corner only "A0" letter.
    I given around 3-5 minutes time to see something changes on screen, but no change.
    - If I power-up computer without connecting any USB Drive: then message comes on screen that: Bios Update has not completed, please insert USB Key and Reset System.
    - On USB Key, If I put ROM File with any other name (except EIVB.BIN) then Message comes:  Updating BIOS... File Not Found...
    - I have removed battery to give a try for resetting BIOS, but not change.
    Question:
    (1) Is it possible that, motherboard is looking for specific version of File or some different version of file ? and just staying silent and not complaining for existing EIVB.BIN ?
    Here is I experiment:  I simply created empty text file (0 Byte) on USB Drive and given name EIVB.BIN  and booted up computer and same result: Blank Screen and just "A0" on right side bottom corner.
    So, it tells me that, when power is given, the program which executes in motherboard for BIOS, it is not able to identify real or fake EIVB.BIN.  I think, it's looking for some specific file and when not found, it's getting confuse on what to do....and not saying anything on the screen....
    Has anyone old version BIN file of H61MU-E35 (B3)  ?
    Is there any trick so I can download older version Packaged EXE from MSI website and extract it ? I can give a try....

    cant boot after i ran out of battery during update later when i recharged it i left macbook on for 12hours without moving off the boot screen (the grey apple with the circle loading thing) i tried repairing it with mac install disk but nothing. not sure what operating system i got it end of 2010

    You will need to do the following:
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
    When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.
    BTW, your profile says Mac Pro, but you have a MacBook Pro, so you should change it to reflect what you are using.

    you are using the wrong bios archives and not what flobelix told you:

  • Updating BIOS to 2.10 on a P775-S7100

    I managed to get my laptop running again after going to the BIOS septup screen and setting it to defaults.  My question is what does the 2.10 BIOS update set that prevents the computer to boot up?  Is there something in 2.10 that is particular to Windows 8 operating system that doesn't work with Windows 7?  I am glad for the posts here that fixed my problem.

    I was running windows 7 at the time I updated bios to 2.10. My laptop would only get to a black screen that said there was a bios problem and go no furhter. Took alot of searching to find out how to get the bios settings to come up. There was no prompt for the f2 key. Once I got the bios setting screen to come up I reset it to defaults and then rebooted with no problem. Hope this method will help others to get their laptops going again.

  • Cant boot using the nouveau driver

    Hello everyone, 
       I have done my search and cont find a thing for my problem. I had the nouveau driver installed on a desktop machine and everything worked fine, then after a kernel update I couldnt boot my machine. I just installed nvidia drivers and everything was fine. I waited for some kernel updates and i now want to go back to the free driver (nouveau) but i still have the same problem. The pc hangs at boot and the display is ":: running early hook [udev]". I know it is not a visual problem because ethernet is not up, sshd isnt active, so its not just the monitor but the whole thing.
       I think it has to do with the KSM because if I set nouveau.modeset=0 on kernel parameters the system boot successfully. But isnt it wrong to boot the machine without KMS?

    I am having a similar problem with a clean installation of arch 2013.10.01, the display hangs on the booting process, but the machine is still operational, i can login but the display is never updated.

  • Need to update Bios ? n100 Model

    Can anyone tell me how to update the Bios on my computer.
    I have tried to load the new Bios according to the Lenovo site but it will not take.
    Computer is the 3000 N100  0768 A49
    I have downloaded it to the desktop, then run the setup with the wizard then it is telling me it made a file.
    After checking the Bios it has never changed and is the same old 63ET62WW V1.08 version.
    Also, can you tell me how to eliminate the need for a password on Vista Business.  I do not want to log on every time it boots up or goes into sleep mode.

    You need to go to the folder created by the downloaded program and run the bios update.
    Read the Installation Instructions on THIS page!
    Always use caution when updating bios.
    As to password, go to Control Panel, Users and Groups and change your
    password to a blank. (delete existing password.)
    And Screensaver settings, uncheck Require a Password...

    Hi all
    I have ThinkCentre A52 8327-75G.
    My problem is. When i flash (update) BIOS from Windows Xp, first all is okay, but when start work i see in "Task Manager" it show only one thread (before i flash (update) BIOS from Windows it show me 2 threads)
    Now have and error mesage "Invalid Machine type and Serial Number - Update Bios to correct this"
    I update Bios because motherboard LAN not show in Device Manager and in BIOS show at MACAddres Invalid.
    My CPU: Intel Pentium D 820 2.8 2M cache (duall core)
    RAM: 2 x 1gb 667 and one 256 mb
    My Question is: Is there have BIOS Repair or Recovery CD that can i use to fix this
    I really need this pc to work .. HELP Pleace

    The Standart PC Have 512 mb ram, Pentium 4 but i never change this cpu i get it like i have it now.
    Before i update bios from os cpu has 2 core and system working well ...
    My question is bios can set how much cpu to use OS ?
    Sec. is there have a program that can change "ROM" file to my way ?
    Here have something wrong with that bios, let lenovo dev revers it and see it.
    I will buy IDA and revers it like my way. i don't see other way..
